If you are unfamiliar with the area, and will be attending an event here, I will highly suggest you visiting their website, where the directions and map are featured. Google Maps was great at getting me to the location, but once there there are several parking lots to choose from, but since this is a school, some of them are student and faculty parking. It said while events are going on there would be signs, but maybe the signs could have been a little bit bigger. We arrived quite early, and I paid the extra $5 to park in premium parking, and a very friendly parking attendant let me know which side walk to use to get to the front of the building. Thats right the front of the venue is not visible from any of the parking lots, so you may think you are in the wrong location when you are exactly where you are supposed to be. Thanks to the premium parking, it was a very short walk to the front of the building. And the sidewalks were 95% clear of snow and ice.Once inside the venue, the concession area was small, but had very friendly people behind the counter. They were not going to open the doors for seating until 7 p.m., for a 7:30 show, so the waiting area turned into a very packed house full of people in no time. One of the things I did find disappointing, was the restrooms, or lack thereof. We were on the right side, and the ladies restroom only had three stalls. For a venue that seats around 2,000 people, I would have expected a larger restroom area... and maybe one with two doors four separate entrance and exit, There was a line the whole time I was there, and even worse, the line to the ladies restroom was blocking the hallway for people to get to the elevator to get upstairs to the next floor. And I dont care how great a show is, and I will admit the show I went to see was pretty great, but if you are not comfortable where youre sitting it puts a damper on your experience. I found the seating in the venue to be exceptionally narrow. I dont know what standard seating should measure, and I actually did not bring a tape measure, but I think these chairs were close to 20 in. And they had armrests. Unfortunately I am a chubby person and I did not fit quite well. But I did the best I could do not disturb the people on either side of me who had paid just as much money for their tickets. So if we had to rate the people who were working at the venue, I would have given them four stars, for being friendly and helpful, but I was writing the overall venue when I rated this place 3 stars.
Great local Auditorium. Not a bad seat in the house for me and i have in many places. Very friendly ushers, handicap acceptable.the Acoustics are good as long as it is not turned up to loud and i prefer to go direct to the box office on site to buy my ticket, better price than a third party tick seller. Would be nice if they could have a more comfortable seat
We saw the Blue Man Crew. We were very satisfied with our seats. All the staff were very courteous and helpful. We took advantage of the valet parking this time and were so grateful not to have to do all the walking in the cold weather. The show was excellent and the accoustics were wonderful. A good experience all around.
4 1/2 stars.... Great theater. Great show prices. Low low concession prices! Fantastic food at the pre-show dinner (available Broadway shows only I guess) that I bought a separate ticket for... the chef really knows his stuff, worth every penny!!! (Included Spam spam spam spam ;) Confusing layout for figuring out where your best entrance to your theater seat or where the coat check was. Got lost but plenty of friendly staff. Concessions line ridiculous but the plan is in place to remodel the lobby & concession format. Check out my pic of their spotlights in the snow, wow, am I in Vegas?
This was our first time there. Even though we were 4 rows from the top, the view was excellent. Also, each row was low enough below the next row that you didnt have to worry about a head being in your way. The sound was fantastic. I highly recommend this venue.
My wife and I just enjoyed an evening with the Illinois symphony and of course it was amazing. I have been enjoying events at the Sangamon Auditorium since I was a child. Do yourself a favor and go see a show here.
They changed our seats without advance notice. We needed and paid for handicapped seating, but they closed the area and seated us in general seating. After I complained, they did let us spread out in the same row as there were unsold seats, but by then my husband already had an anxiety attack and was not able to enjoy the show. And then add on the multiple people around us who talked thru the entire show... not that enjoyable. Wont be back for a while.
I went to the nutcracker for the first time with one of my daughters, a granddaughter and one of my grandsons. We all thoroughly enjoyed it! I was a last minute change and the were very helpful with me being disabled and them not knowing in advance!
Carol King was great! Just saw Vince Gill tonight. He was awesome! The line up of performers this season is super! Good job!
We attended the Bravo! Dance Competition here on 3/09/2019. The venue is large, comfortable seating, and good ventilation (neither too hot nor too cold). Restrooms are clean and plentiful, easy to access. Did not interact with staff, but the auditorium is clean and well-kept. There is plenty of parking, but you might have to walk a bit (1/2 block or less, usually). There is a drop-off for accessibility and inclement weather, but not covered.Overall, a nice, modern, well-maintained auditorium.
Its was nice i went for the pink floyd laser light show the seats are a little close together but other wise it was nice
Went with my son and his class to see Peter and the Wolf! Was such an amazing performance! We both loved it so much! The people are friendly and helpful and assist you when youre trying to find your seats or a bathroom. Overall a great experience and we will likely go back to see other concerts and events!
Beautiful venue. Comfortable seating. Friendly volunteers get you to your assigned seat. Clean restrooms. Excellent acoustics.
I took three young children too a performance and we were seated in the front row. The ushers were very considerate and helpful, explaining booster seats may be necessary in the seats we were in. When only two of the three asked for them, the ushers brought a third which they kept nearby, just in case it was needed. The center was clean with very clean restrooms.
There is not a bad seat in the place. The staff seems to pay great attention to details and audio in this venue.
Springfield is very lucky to have a great arts culture. Continue to support your local arts and youth programs or they will go away.
Went to Joe Bonamasa concert. It was great. Seating was good but long walk to get there.
Nice very intimate setting we sat in the orchestra section only about 40 feet from the stage on the left in row K. Very good sight line. The rows had more leg room than most theaters of this size. Staff was very nice and attentive. Only knock is the bathrooms were small and the did not serve beverages through the show. It was also cash only but the prices were very reasonable. Three dollars for a domestic 12 oz beer and four dollars for a premium beer. There was an ATM on site. Parking was close for 5 dollars but they had a lot that was free but not much farther. it was 10 dollars for valet parking I see why it would be necessary because you are going to have to wait even longer when the shows are over. Overall Great venue.
This was an excellent venue. We were in the 3rd row, and the rows are wide. You are not crammed against the back of the seat in front of you. I would like to mention the excellent staff. My brother and I took our mom who is 78 and has to use oxygen to see Dwight Yoakam. They were very helpful and the entire experience was wonderful. We will definitely be back. The concert was amazing as well.
Joe Bonamassa! Great concert! Great auditorium!
Excellent experience! They have plenty of volunteers to help you find your correct seats and to answer your questions. Comfy seating and good view of stage. Made for a great night of comedy with Louis Black! Plenty of parking too.
Pink floyd laser show was sic! Nice venue
There isnt really a bad seat in the house. Great views and accoustics all around.
I always love coming here for the shows! Great variety of shows too. Rent was last night and was another excellent show! Powerful voices! Seats were in balcony and had perfect view of entire stage. Anxious for next show!
Illinois symphony did a fantastic job performing all the Disney music. Really made you realize how much the music can set the scene or effect the feeling of a movie. The performers were wonderful and I will be sure to look at attending future symphony performances.
This is quite a nice facility and a very good venue for the play that I drove the kids to see.The staff out front were incredibly helpful and courteous. There is of course ample parking and the parking lot was easy to navigate even with a 40-foot bus.
Seeing Beautiful was Wonderful if we could see it again we more than likely would.
Under new directorship and it seems to be a good thing. Ive been to a few events here and the staff are always nice and helpful. The space is pretty good if a little dated but everything works well and its clean. I would generally recommend taking in a show or a concert here. One of the best venues in Springfield.
I love this place, amazing moment with my husband
Valet is very helpful and fast to get you your car back. The shows are amazing. Prices are fair :)
Went to see a Chicago concert. Excellent! Seats are narrow for most anybody aged above 17, so you have to wedge youself in sometimes. Movie theaters could show them how its done. Restrooms are too small for the amount of people that they can seat.
Comfortable seating and you can hear very well
This is still one of the nicest venues in Springfield. We saw a production there recently and really enjoyed ourselves. Kudos to the UIS staff for making this such a great place.
Not a bad seat in the house visually.
What a wonderful Carol King musical!! Singing was superb -
Great shows and plenty of polite and helpful red coats to assist
A great place to broadern your horizons
Not a bad seat in the Auditorium. Very good acoustics. Ample parking.
Saw Jeff Dunham here. Cozy venue with good seating. No bad seats, can see from everywhere.
Nick Jr Live is Great for the kids!
PAC, the UIS Studio Theater, and Brookens Auditorium are all great places for events
UIS Auditorium, present some if the best shows in Central Illinois, and beyond.Cirque Mechanics was an absolute delight..
The acoustics were amazing seating was appropriate the staff really made sure you had an experience and the shows ran smoothly. Ive never had a bad experience here.
Workers showing us to our seats were extremely nice and helpful. The show was great.
A great place to see a show. Their line-up is surprisingly good.
Jeff Dunham show was Awesome, ...Nice place, clean, friendly staff, easy accessible parking!
Nice venue with variety of presentations. The seats can feel a bit cramped. The walk from the parking lots is rather long, and especially challenging in really cold weather.
Nice place. Nice enough people. Extremely overpriced for the shows. MILLIKEN in Decatur usually has the same shows and at a much cheaper price.
Very nice theatre to attend live events. Recommended highly.
Good area for large and small p et performances and many ways to access the area.
Always a good time, place is clean and comfortable.
I saw one of the pops concerts here with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra. The auditorium had plenty of seating, the sound was great from the Mezzanine, and there are a lot of bathrooms. Overall it was a great experience and I would like to come back.
Best free to the public evening with the orchestra
It was quite nice, very clean.
Great theater. Not a bad seat in the house.
Odd layout but great facility
Great venue for a concert! We saw Three Dog Night.
All seats seems to see the stage just fine. Acoustics are great.
They opened the doors almost 10 minutes late even though the lines were extremely long. Seats are very small, no arm room, squeezed in like sardines in a can.
Small enough every seat is a good seat. Took my grand children to see Disney
Great venue, Terrific Show !
Great place to see a show! Has Broadway shows often and reasonable prices!
Good place but the doors dont always work
The acoustics and sound in this auditorium are grand for any performance.
I was there for a dance companion so it was good and there was a lot of good answers
Usually have a great time at my nieces recital but this year you had lots of construction equipment blocking most of the handicapped spaces that were easily accessible. Made for a difficult day for us all.
The seats are ridiculously narrow.
Great arts center
Loved the show we were in the mezzanine seats and enjoyed it
Great intimate venue!
Attended concert. It was terrific.
Beautiful facility with great acoustics
Good parking and the seating was great. Loved Jay Leno
Not a bad seat in the house for Gordon Lightfoot. Will be back.
Large auditorium. Nice
Excellent events! Superb facility.
Very elegant auditorium, air was nice a cool. Great place for a graduation.
Low seating capacity but there isnt a bad seat in the house.
Awesome show!
Its a great venue with great programs.
It was awesome for my grandkids an theirs friend
Great memories!
Saw Chicago play here. They killed it, which isnt any surprise since the 3 founding members and the 7 newer members played together like they had all been together from the beginning.
Great staff. Great venue.
One of the best acoustics and hidden gems of Central Illinois. I’ve been seeing shows here since I was a kid and I get to take my daughter now.
I have been here several time. Great place. More rest room would be nice.
Fantastic!! Celtic women and the Illinois symphony orchestra were great!
Very nice and big
Excellent show and venue
Not a bad seat in the house . Shows reasonably priced . Recommend
Very accessible. Not a bad seat in the place.
Location is good, easy to get to. Parking was OK. My only issue is Im 62 and the seats were very narrow. My shoulders went over each sides armrest.
Went to see Kinky Boots. Loved it all
Performance was great
