The place was a little small but full of great historic information. The guide was very nice and knowledgeable she made sure we received all the information and answered any questions we had. We will definitely have to come back.

The staff here are not your ordinary museum staff but great historians in thier own right. Im proud of my home town for having grown enough in culture & diversity to even have this museum in the first place. African-american history is history. There should be no separation or distinction necessary and its just as important for non African Americans to know true all inclusive history as it is for us.

The African-American museum is very nice with a welcoming staff. I knew a little about the 1908 race riot, but this exhibit truly opened my eyes. Its a lot to take in emotionally, and too much for me to process quickly. Im looking forward to going back for the guided tour, and also with my question: what now? As a person of European descent, how can I be an ally in modern Springfield? Thank you for this wonderful addition to our city.

Great exhibits, especially the ones dedicated to African Americans in early Illinois. Had a great experience, and I definitely left with a desire to learn more.

Kevia, the director, was quite kind, friendly, and helpful. You gave us an overview of what the museum had on exhibit and encouraged us to do further research. I highly recommend the museum, and I plan to return soon.

I attended the grand opening in the summer of 2018. ILLINOIS has a particularly profound African American history that changed the course of the country and thus the world. From President Abraham Lincoln, to President Barack Obama and the nasty 1908 race riot, the catalyst for the NAACP, providing legal protection against racism. This museum offers this history, in addition to special events, such as the annual gala honoring local contributions to the community.

A hidden gem in Springfield. Interesting exhibits, including information on the local early 20th century race riot and notable area citizens and families. Museum curator walked around with my group giving us extra information.

Hard to find but there was some hyper-local history. Was not an all day trip but close to Lincoln tomb. Only bad thing was no pictures
