It was free, and easy enough to do since it was on our way. Not really something to go out of your way for though since there really wasnt much.
Our daughter and grandsons were here from Illinois & we took them their. Our 2 grandsons loved the train display, had a great time. Perfect place to take the family with a park and pool next to it. Admission is free; but they do take donations to help out. Take the kids & donate a few dollars or cents; you wont regret it!! Staffed completely with volunteers that are very friendly & helpful. Hats off to them. They do a great job.
We just had my grandsons birthday party here! These volunteers were so kind & great to work with! Thank you so much!
Cool museum that is and old steam engine and cars from the Frisco Line. Limited on open hours because it is staffed by volunteers, but well worth the time to see. They do have a collection box for donations to help keep the place running. Boys and girls of all ages will really like this place.
We had my sons 7th birthday party here today, it was great!!! The kids LOVED looking @ all the stuff they have out, going up & down the stairs in the 2nd to last car, playing w all the knobs, etc in the locomotive, blowing the whistle, & more!Thank you so much for a great experience & a birthday party to remember!!!The fact that its air conditioned made it all that much better in todays heat! Thanks again!
Was a great visit. Will be back where we can see it better. Had a busy 2 yr old..lol
A wondeful piece of history. Very informative historians providing a look back at how transportation revolatioized America.
From the outside it doesnt look like much, but my train fanatic child LOVES this place. Bonus: it is right next to a splash pad!
Kids had a blast! to the man that showed my son how to use the telegraph, thank you so much
Absolutely call ahead and schedule a tour. We were in the middle of a road trip and tried to just stop in but it was closed. The boys were still thrilled to get out of the car and run around at the park/playground. And you can absolutely see the outside of the train which they still loved because they didnt realize how big it would be. Definitely worth the stop.
Great place to visit...and its free!
Interesting place for anyone interested in trains. Not much change in exhibits.
Amazing place to visit for anyone who is remotely interested in trains. All the volunteers were nice and were happy to show me items around the museum and answer questions.
My son had his 2nd birthday at the Railroad Historical Museum and it was one of the most memorable experiences ever. The volunteers were so friendly and knowledgeable. There was a lot to see and cars to explore. The kids at the birthday party loved ringing the bell (perhaps a little too much) and sitting in the engine pretending to drive it. It is obvious that those who volunteer here are passionate about trains and even participated in some of the activities we had planned for my sons birthday party. We asked them if they wanted to join us, and several did, making my sons special day even better. The volunteers were decked out in engineer hats and overalls and my son was fascinated by it all. I would definitely recommend having a birthday party there if you have a train-enthusiast. The hours are kind of odd, but we were able to schedule a one-of-a-kind party, and it was so worth it!
Enjoyed immensely! Volunteers were so friendly!
Knew it was there but had never gone. Finally went. Awesome history of the railroad. Definitely worth seeing at least once even if you dont like trains. Good for young and old. Side note I had no clue that a steam was that big.
Free to visit but the will accept donations. Genuine historical train. I enjoyed my visit.
Neat hands on museum with interesting information. The men on site are full of information of the history or how it works.
We made a family trip to Springfield to specifically visit this Railroad Historical Museum. Our GPS actually took us past the park that the train was in, so we had to back track and look for the train. The train was loaded with information and vintage items. There were volunteers in each cart that you could talk to. They even had little activity sheets, paper conductor hats and stickers for the kids. They had the train bells and whistles hooked up to ropes so the kids could ring them! I highly recommend this little ADVENTURE to families! If you have time on a Saturday between 2pm and 4pm, make the trip you will not regret it!
My daughter and I went and had a good time. There are many old photos of trains. The engine itself is interesting and you can go inside. They also have a double decker passenger car and a caboose to tour. There is a station building with a working stenograph and more historical memoribilia.
My kids loved this! Had a great time with family!
Its a neat little museum. Its also free!!!
Wonderful museum
Only open for two hours on Saturday afternoon. We really wanted to take our grandson through the train, but it was Friday.
Very cool educational activity
Its a small and free feature at a public park.
If you love trains, youll love this museum!
Even adults like it here!
