Great place to take kids (both young & older (grandson 5 & son 32)).Very educational.Big shout out to the staff in the lab, who took my grandson in to meet the newly hatched chicks, after he & his dad had completed their experiments.Love that experiments are gauged to appropriate ages for the children.Only reason not all 5 stars is how worn things have gotten. More money needs to go to upkeep & repair of exhibits.
My family loves Discovery Center-type places, but we have lived in the area for almost 5 years and had never been to the one in Springfield until I brought my almost-4-year-old daughter to Seuss Science Day this past weekend. We LOVED it! The staff members were all so nice, my daughter had a blast, and I was able to secure a discounted membership due to the Seuss Science Day promotion so my whole family can come and enjoy next time. We loved the variety of activities of varying appropriateness for all ages. We will be back, and I cant wait! My only regret is that it cant be today for the Critters Day thing. We/I love bugs, lol!
We always renew memberships to the Discovery Center. It is the best compromise between fun and education. The staff really cares about science and approaches our kids with facts. Something to do in the winter months as well. Who doesnt love a Tesla Coil?
My kids loved it! And the staff was great! One young man was super friendly, and a wealth of knowledge. He showed us personally around the center and informed us about all the bugs the Science Center had to offer, since my Best friend is a science teacher and was interested for her class bug sections. Wish i caught his name but wanted to say a Big Thank You!
Love the Discovery Center! Weve been regular visitors for years. Theyre really good about adding fresh displays, so while we have our favorites, theres always something new. The staff is so friendly. They make themselves available to show you displays that require assistance and really seem to take pleasure in teaching your kids about the science behind the experiments. Today we attended their first ever Easter egg hunt, and it was a blast! I really hope they continue this event for years to come and cant wait to see what they come up with next!
Loved it! They are doing an amazing job in the midst of this pandemic. Thank you for giving us a safe place to escape and play.
The Discovery Center is such a fun experience for my 3 year old. We got memberships so we try to take him frequently, and he asks to go any time we pass by. There are so many interesting exhibits and he gets excited about something new every time we go. Plus, this place is a life saver when the weather keeps us inside too long and we need to get out of the house. We try to gift our kids experiences instead of toys and our membership to the Discovery Center was a perfect choice!
I went yesterday it was amazing I love it my little sister was having so much fun
Great exhibits and that are interesting for everyone, especially mini golf!
The discovery center is a great, fun place for children of all ages. However, when we went, there were a lot of exhibits under maintenance or just off/out of service. We had free tickets from school, if I had paid for them, I would have asked for my money back. If everything had been working like it was supposed to be it would have been awesome.
Perfect for fun learning experience with the kiddos.
A ton of great stuff for kids to do. Some of the stuff is dated and almost everything with multiple parts was missing something or broken. But the kids had a blast and learned a ton.
We had a great time with our 3 and 1-yr-old boys. The displays are very interactive and have been kept in decent condition. There isnt any food for purchase besides snacks in the gift shop, but there is a nice sandwich shop a few hundred feet up the street. You can also bring and eat your own food in the lobby area.
Im darrin and Im John I luv kids!
To much forcing mask told us they would kick us out if my kids mask fell off. And I dont want anything but you all to research covid better.
Moved from CO area where Denver museum was highlight of our weekends. Come to find out our membership was reciprocated and admission was free today. While it isnt as big as the museum in Denver and doesnt have mummies or dinosaurs its still pretty awesome. This place has a real Tesla coil though sweet!
Oh my gosh most amazing experience ever I took my eight-year-old six-year-old and four-year-old and they had all kinds of activities for all age groups! My kids were never bored and my kids are terribly difficult to entertain and keep attentive. Definitely a must go place.
One of my favorite places to take my girls (3 and 10). Both have a great time. Love that there are fun things for all ages!
I appreciate how there are consistent displays and also rotating features throughout the Discovery Center. I am sure it is a challenge to keep up with the amount of kids they see in this building each day. If I could magically change one thing - I would love the large bubble blower to be free from issues. The new putt-putt course is fun and a nice diversion as well.Be prepared to spend over an hour here if your kiddos like to really get into the hands-on activities.
Great place for the young and old alike to learn about science and have fun.We have visited a number of science/discovery centers around the OK/AR/MO/KS area. The Discovery Center has remained our favorite. Its small enough to not be overwhelming, but they make good use of the space with a lot of fun things and stuff to explore.
Lots of things to do. It would take all day to see everything or you could buy an annual pass and visit as often as you would like.If you travel you can visit similar museums in other places and states. We are from Oklahoma and thoroughly enjoyed our four hours here. We used our pass from the Oklahoma Science Museum and entered with bo fuss and no cost. Staff was pleasant and accommodating to request and helpful with exhibits. They have an indoor putting course that you need to allow time for. Our kids and grandchildren had a great time. The three year old boy was crying when we left because he wanted to find another dinosaur.Thank you Staff for a wonderful afternoon.
We arrived at 230pm and were informed they would be closing at 5pm. I did not think anything of it until the receptionist told me there were 3 floors!! The place is massive. We did not get to visit every exhibit even though I kept pushing my kids through. Both of my kids are just under 3 years old but there was plenty for them to do too. You could easily spend an entire day here. The only downside is the lack of lunch items provided on site. The price is well worth it. If you are a local it would be a worthy investment to do the membership. It is the perfect place for birthday events. Loved this place and the satff were incredibly friendly. We had ice cream at the end of our adventure through exhibit after exhibit.
I have visited a couple of times and we enjoy it. There is plenty to see and kids love it. Doesnt feel super clean, but its not bad.
Super super nice staff. Very patient and friendly. Plan to spend around 3 hours here. Fun for all ages. We took five 13-16 year old boys here and they had a blast.
We love the discovery center! Its very fun and educational for kids, theres a lot to keep the whole family entertained for hours. The staff is always very welcoming and helpful. I would highly recommend checking it out!
My teen, toddler and infant boys all enjoyed visiting the Discovery Center! We arrived in the morning and then came back again after lunch. There is a designated room for children 5 years old and under that I really appreciated. There are three floors of educational exhibits and activities. The water table was one of our favorite features.
My son is 4 and loved it. He had so much fun! Definitely buy a membership!
We had a great time: I have a preteen and a toddler. We also had the place pretty much to ourselves on a Wednesday morning! I let the kids do whatever and they touched everything! Its a 4-story place and there are details and thoughtful features made just for kids. Awesome! I give the gift shop a 3 star because it wasnt very well stocked for tourists like I expected.
Great science museum for kids of all ages. Friendly staff. They have little science experiments on every floor pyramid and do good job keeping it updated with current events. My kids favorite part is on the 3rd floor they have a science lab. They get to put on gloves, goggles and coats just like a real scientist. We did an extraction of our DNA and even got to take samples of it home. My kids were thrilled with the experience! And it was all included in the admission price to get in. Also they have a high-wire bike that costs $4 extra, It is well worth it!
Good place to have a membership and take the kids pretty much whenever, especially during the hot and cold months! Never gets old to my babies. I do wish they would have ppl cleaning/ sanitizing more during the day though.
Great display of learning activities for the kids. Needs more staffing for displays to explain to the children so its less of a free for all playground. Over all kiddos loved it.
Boring as an adult. But good for kids!
A great family-friendly place we found while on a weekend road trip that took us to Springfield! Having two small children under the age of a required admission price, and the fact that the Discovery Center does military discounts made it an extremely affordable outing for us, which is even better. This museum is very easy to find, has lots of adjacent parking, and has a great array of activities across an impressive span of age ranges. You can truly find things of interest, here, whatever your age.
Fun place for toddlers and school aged kids! My not quite 2 year old daughter loved the kitchen playroom, the dinosaur dig, the floating ball, and the vacuum tubes. Such a fun place to get a family pass. We spent about 2 hours here with my 2 year old.
Its been basically the same for years and needs to be updated but its still very interesting to go and see.
Had a great time with the grandsons. Big enough that when school groups came through there was no problem.
Great place. It has so many fun things to do. You can go through it quickly in 50mns or take your time and be there for 3 hours. Going back after being there as a kid. Its not as entertaining. But I have great memories from there. Great for kids.
Definitely an awesome and affordable family experience highly recommend
Such a wonderful HANDS ON PLACE !!
Great place to take the kids on a hot or cold day. With a membership you get access to many science museums across the United States for free! Including the science center in Kansas City and others like the museum of science and industry in Chicago. This is a fantastic value. However, after visiting all the others you come to realize ours is really quite terrible in comparison. But its the best we have in Springfield!
This is such a great place to bring your kids! We could spend hours here
Putting your own drawing on the wall was so fun. The place is amazing and beautiful!
This place is great! We went with a group of 8 children with ages ranging from 2-10 and everyone had a great time!
My children absolutely adore the Discovery Center. I purchased the season pass this year. The staff are always welcoming and willing to teach the children whilst they have fun. Definitely will return.
My son had a wonderful time here
Great place for a family afternoon adventure. Cool activities for all ages and spacious areas bday parties and lunch.
My 4-year old loved it. Tons of fun activities. Go early on a Saturday morning when its empty.
We were passing through Springfield while on a road trip vacation and needed something for the kids. This place was surprisingly big and affordable (kids $8, adults $12). Lots of science, facts, and hands-on exhibits. We spent 3 hours there and didnt get to everything. Price includes minigolf and is good for all day (you can leave & come back). Kids and adults loved it!
This is my 2nd year getting a membership as my grand children adore all the activities and exhibits. Only reason for 4 star is there were a few exhibits not functioning or it would have been a 5.
You can check out passes through the public library. Only request I have is trying to incorporate more stuff for the preteen crowd. Only 2 floors were open, but we loved it!
Great place for kids 3-10.
So many great screen-free activities. Great for the whole family!
We brought our 4 yr old grandson here and he had a blast! Grandma and grandpa did too!
Great place to take the grandkids!!
I love how reasonable they are and also the free passes available at your local library!
Wonderful place for small children. Great staff, lots of stuff to do.
This museum is for all ages! My fiancee and I both went and had so much fun. The admission is very cheap - not sure how much it is for kids, but for adults it is only $12, and the exhibits are fun, interesting, and educational.
Love the Discovery Center!! Also if your looking for a wedding venue consider this place for sure. Very affordable just not quite big enough for my wedding.
Lots of exhibits, tons of fun for the kids, very reasonably priced and a year membership also gets you into over 300 other facilities
This place is amazing! You can spend all day there and have fun while learning.
We love the new putt putt exhibit. Always a blast and great for kids of all ages.
Weve been members of the discovery center since last September and w just absolutely love it there. Every month my three year old participates in science sprouts and their memberships are SO inexpensive for the entire year!! Theyve got incredible programs and exhibits for all ages!
My two children and I loved it here lots of fun and learning to be had
What a great place for the family.. The Kids science exhibits are great to get the young ones interested and opening their minds. Plenty of activities for all to experience. It is downtown in the theatre district/ restaurant district so you can make a day of it. Great for school trips as well. This is a great hands on center. It is mainly for kids but the adults enjoyed it as well. Lots of science things to do and participate in. There are staff members all over to lend a hand if needed.
We have a family membership for the second year in a row and still love it everytime we go. Something there for kids of all ages! Even the grown ones like myself
Fun place for the kiddos. We just got our passes fir the year.
Great place for kids to learn about different things they have set up.
Pretty interesting place quite a bit to do. Definitely fills half a day, but we could have stayed longer if time allowed us to. Lots of interactive educational opportunities/centers. Most of them we had seen in other science centers/childrens museums around the country. Definitely the most original and coolest room for us was the 5 senses. We loved not only the information for each of the five senses, but how they had it hooked up to the brain, so it could light up the corresponding section. We thought with how much admission was it was a shame many displays were showing their age. It definitely could use a spruce up. Overall, It was a great day though.
My children enjoy visiting, but we wish the fourth floor was open. Additionally, the little village needs updating. The kids love the water table and the lab. They currently have minigolf, but it is a bit underdone. Overall an excellent place for kids to play. Our membership has been a bargain because we also get into other museums for free.
A great place to take grandkids, especially on a cold winter day off school. My grandsons had a great time exploring and checking out the exhibits. Love this place.
Very interesting and entertaining. The kids loved this place.
Ive given you a couple sneak peeks but for you to find out more please go there. That place was AMAZING especially for a nerd like me! Everything was interactive and you could learn a lot. It was my first time going there and I just was so amazed if I didnt have to rush based off of time I wouldve spent hours but of course I had places to be. If you bring kids there I can imagine they would adore it its perfect for them especially if they are touchy or love adventure and reading stuff like that. There is times where you learn and times where you have fun. There is 4 different floors 3 is more for kids while the 4th one is for college kids. The employees are kind and helpful they let you understand anything if you need assistance. I highly recommend one day take your time and your kids and just enjoy a creative day
Took family from AZ. We had a blast with all the little ones
Weve taken our young daughter and nephews here a few times. We like the the prices are reasonable, or that we can get passes from our local library. The kids always have a great time exploring and checking things out, although I wish that they would update some of the exhibits that have been basically the same since I was in elementary school.
Perfect place for a rainy day, or any day for that matter, with the kids. Took a group of preservice teachers so they could see what is available for them with their classes. What a great educational resource. Well done exhibits. Knowledgeable staff. Worth it!
Very cool place, and I imagine the longer the place is open and is funded the bigger and better it will become. Will have to come back when the mini golf and such is open. Only issue I have is some activities require the staff to be around like the hamster wheel, and its hard I imagine for the staff to be everywhere at once so if possible to have some activities not require staff would be great.
What a wonderful place for all ages! We had grandkids between 1 to 13, and everyone had lots to do for several hours. LOVED the science lab best, though my grandson liked riding the high wire bike.
A bit rundown. Many cool-looking exhibits were not working! The space has great potential if given a bit of TLC. The kids had fun though.
Always amazing! Though I do wish theyd do more with their gift shop and add a café, but learning experiences first!
Dont miss out on one of Springfields greatest attractions ! This is a great family friendly place to bring the kids to hang out all day and have an adventure exploring all the different floors of science packed fun. I really love how The Discovery Center of Springfield allows familys of all sorts of backgrounds to come experience the awesomeness that science can be ! The best part about this hidden gem of a science packed adventure is that they allow you and your Children to actually explore a literal hands-on interaction experience that will be sure to bring smiles to your kids faces for years to come ! Its definitely something your family will remember and your kids will be begging to come back, Thanks Discovery Center of Springfield !! Your contribution to childhood education is hands down a work of art ! Keep it up, your doing a fantastic job !

Love this place. Perfect for kiddos of all ages and educational
Really nice indoors for childrens. The staff is friendly and available throw out the four story building that use to be originally a bus stop. Its in the middle of downtown Springfield and its well organize between section. It goes from biology to astronomy and many others. Perfect to visit anytime of the year.
Always fun to explore & my boys love visiting, but things looked even shabbier than last summer. Lots of missing pieces, tattered & chipped displays, not enough help to have all exhibits open to kids. The free mini-golf exhibit, however, was a very sweet surprise for us all.
Fun place to explore and learn new things if you are a kid
This place is amazing. We take the kids here every chance we get. I urge you and your family to try it out if you havent.
You can spend hours here. Fun for adults, too
Great place to bring the kids
Was a blast and my niece (7yrs) and my nephew (4yrs) loved it. My only complaint would be that one whole floor of it was unavailable and a couple of the exhibits were broken. Still would go back in a heartbeat

It is getting a bit dated compares to the one in Manhattan Kansas. But still so much to do and learn. My 4yo begs to go there everytime we are in Springfield. So we did get the season pass. Totally worth it! It gets you into many MANY other places in the country. And the staff here in SGF are aleays amazing.
Great place for kids spent hours there kids had a blast
