Should be renamed Trashway.I read about the Upper Chinquapin Greenway in a Spartanburg Journal newspaper. Having never heard of it before I thought Id give it a try with my wife. So, on Thursday afternoon, 3/19/20, we drove over for a look see. Our mapping instructions said there was a trailhead located on Graham Road. We drove there first but the gate to the gravel parking lot was closed and locked. We consulted our map and saw there was a trailhead at the cul-de-sac on Daniel Court. When we got there we notice the only parking area was a small patch of grass in the center of the cul-de-sac. We didnt like that so we went back to Graham Road and parked on the side of the road fully expecting our car to be towed by the time we got back. We proceeded on down the trail and even before we got to the treeline we noticed a baby stroller, a bedsheet, comforter and a beer bottle off to the right side. I thought maybe it was the campsite of a homeless mother and child but there was no one around. We kept going but we should have turned back as the trail only got worse. The amount of garbage in the greenway was disgusting. Beer cans, liquor bottles, clothing, a cut up plastic drum, 5-gal bucket, empty bags of chips, used wipes, and other debris dotted the landscape from one end to the other. The only fairly clean area was over by the hospice center. This greenway is in serious need of a cleanup or it should be bulldozed and turned into a respectable park. The only good thing about our walk through the woods were the birds chirping away. Skip this place and hike/walk elsewhere. I suggestion Croft State Park or the Mary Black Rail Trail.

I walk the dogs here frequently in hot weather. Heavy rains have damaged parts of the trails. Some trees are down, but it is still a beautiful walk through the woods.4 stars because I would not walk here alone without my big protective dogs. Men sit in cars in the parking lot almost all the time. You never pass these men on the trails. No clue why they are there.
