A family oriented nature preserve, well maintained by local SPACE volunteers. Safe, clean, shade, mostly flat trail, pefect length for a short or long AM or PM walk. A pleasant walking trail for all ages. OK for trail stroller, too uneven for ADA; a walking cane is prob OK in most cases, but not recomended for a walker.
Everything you can ask for in a nature preserve. Trais, wetlands, flowing creek, and more wildlife than one should see in the city.
Very nice walking/running trails. Would be nice for some tree cleanup and some of the large holes left by fallen trees filled in on some of the trails. Kids enjoy it.
Very nice greenspace to visit and walk, and sometimes you see wildlife...
Really nice trails with lots of shade. No rest area though.
Lovely walk close to town.
Marsh area under construction, but cool spot.
Love going for walks here
Beautiful peaceful place
A little hidden gem full of peace & some awesome birding, even on a quick lunch visit!
This is a quality place for awalk
Very Beautiful, love the Smokey Mountains
Love the wildlife.. snakes and all
Very nice trails, just be prepared to wear boots because some portion of the trails are muddy.
We had a blast with my daughters American Heritage Girl Troop. Good trail for beginners and well laid out.
Great place to take the do
Great place to take a small hike and relax
The peacefulness of the place only added to its beauty. This showcases the South that I knew in the 1960s, in the woods near my house, as a child.
Likely the most noteworthy nature preserve in all of Spartanburg, the Edwin M. Griffin Nature Preserve is home to several trails which span some miles. This densely wooded preserve is situated between rural and residential areas. The preserve is most easily accessible by car but can be easily reached on foot in a matter of minutes from the neighborhoods of Converse Heights and/or Fernwood. There are several points of access round the preserve. Coming here is very relaxing. A great hiking destination, biking destination, walking the dogs destination, etc. I believe the trails are in good condition save a few imperfections here and there. SPACE is very good at keeping these trails safe, though, so I have confidence any issues can be fixed if they are contacted. Come on down and enjoy a great preserve!
Great trail super easy for the kiddos (3 and 5) theres a nice picnic area and a neat little fort near it. This is not a very stroller friendly trail due to there being a lot of sand and roots otherwise its perfect for adults and kids
The park is tucked away in Converse Heights area, as a over 100 acre persevere. Walking by yourself can feel rather secluded in an adventurous way.
It’s sometimes not keep up very well you’ll pass a bridge while walking the trail with lots of graffiti . Sometimes you’ll see blood on the trail an that pretty creepy . Your right behind people’s houses while walking .
Such a beautiful place right in the city! Don’t have to go far to “get away” and be in nature and serenity. Easy trails for all ages and dogs to walk. My children and fur baby love to come here.
Its a very quiet place for a walk or a run but totally not accessible for strollers. I have 2 small kids and darn I wish there were more places to go out with a stroller. Local government isnt thinking about it idk but I left this place disappointed.
A great place to explore.
Nice trails to walk in the woods. Love the boardwalk in the wetlands area.
Great place to get out and walk with the water by you practically the whole time
Beautiful place to take long or short walks. Or sit and relax....
Nice, easy hiking trails.
Dog - friendly place. There is a creek for your dog or child to play in. Its an old estate that nature is slowly taking over, so you might not see very rare plants, but you will see wildlife like wood ducks. Nice place to ride on a mountain bike or trail run.
Easy 90 min walk.. Smooth for run/biking
I love this place! Its a hidden gem. Walk, run, jog, or bike along the wooded trails, enjoy the wildlife and the labeled trees. My only issue is with the graffiti on the overpass on one of the trails. Makes me wonder what goes on here at night.
Great park for dogs and hikes with family. They provide doggy bags and have people clean up park/change out trash regularly
Beautifully hidden, quiet despite location
This is a really pleasant nature park/trail.
This place was a beautiful walk. We really enjoyed it. We liked all the little paths that branched off through the trail.
Love coming to this park to run or walk with my dog. Would love if there could be a drinking fountain though.
I love this place I have a lot of great memories there
You just simply can not give nature a bad rating. Beautiful waterfalls and amazing views. I had a wonderful time.
Beautiful and well-maintained. Lots of trails, cardinals and other birds, a few snakes now and then. Would get 5 stars, but they kept an obnoxious art project up for months that was just scrolling lightbars of poetry which disrupted the whole feeling of nature with flashing lights and huge cables (gone now thankfully). Great place to jog or picnic.
It used to be a 5 star. The wetland trail is mostly dead now and they have put up scrolling LED signs throughout the trail that make no sense and distract from the nature preserve. A pleasant walk but it has changed for the worse unfortunately.
Never been
Walk our dog there all the time. Great place to to just walk & get away. Great location, near everything. Find a sunny day, and go have a picnic.
Nice easy trail system. Great for a little nature fix and a trail run.
Open from dawn to dusk, this preserve offers an escape to walk the trails and observe nature not far from downtown Spartanburg.
Disappointing. Trails not marked. Needs many repairs
A nice free nature area. Well maintained and traveled with many trails.
Very good for a short walk with family
One of our favorite little spots for a picnic.
Beautiful out there! i wish people wouldnt litter, however.
A lot of downed trees and erosion. Also the wooden path in marsh area has been removed and is closed.
Nature is comforting.
Great place to walk or ride a bike
Nice place to get away for a couple of hours right in the heart of town.
Lovely walk. Lots of water and hilly in some places for a small hiking experience.
Very nice park to stroll through and relax . come here atleast once a week
Its a great place to get out in nature!
Great trails. Nice boardwalk. Free.
I have seen deer on multiple occasions under cloud cover. Minnows jump in the water some times. All ways hear the birds. I have never seen snakes or any dangerous animals. I sometimes walk barefoot. No road noise in the preserve. It isa great place to go tucked away in the city. Very often see people taking advantage of the terrain walking/running/biking on the trails. Everyone is freindly its a great enviroment. Seating is available in many locations.
Long quiet trails with informative signs for nature lovers..
Great place to take yourself/dog/family
A great spot for a stroll in city limits.
Very peaceful place.
Very nice easy walk with lots of scenery
Good spot to go
Great trail by a perfect little river!
Its a great place to stroll when pondering lifes little dilemmas.
Beautiful and peaceful place to walk in nature
Awesome place for family fun
Great trails close to home.
Great place to walk.
Levi loves coming here!
Great spot for a hike and a picnic.
Maps dont match trails
It wasnt the biggest or most maintained space, but you dont really see anyone else and there is a lot of beautiful scenery to look at
