This is a fun time in the Smokies and if you are looking for a break from the other Gatlinburg activities, its well worth it. Ive done a lot of trail riding in the past and wasnt sure what to expect, many of them have been much longer and into more remote areas. This one is a short jaunt into a wooded area behind the property. Its really beautiful with the fall time colors and with all of the fun around Covid, a safe outdoors activity where you can be close to nature. They are very thoughtful about finding the right horse for you and they look very well cared for and maintained :) something that I havent always seen with other trail ride companies, unfortunately. Give them a shot and enjoy a nice, leisurely ride in the Smokies :)

The staff was friendly, professional and very knowledgeable. The trail was beautiful and peaceful. We got to see some wild turkey. On a return trip Five Oaks will definitely be on our to do list. We had the last ride of the day and it was so nice! My husband and son had never been on horses before, unlike myself and the staff was great at showing everyone the basics. This place was amazing, from the welcome donkey (Angel), the super friendly staff to the trail ride itself. Our guide was fantastic and friendly and made sure everyone was comfortable and had a good time. Great views and wonderful horses. Would definitely go back!!! The prices are great and you can buy pictures of yourself and family from the trail ride!

My wife and I had a wonderful time horseback riding. Its the first time I have been on horseback in nearly 30 yrs. Its something Ive wanted to do for many years but had been too heavy ! After losing 75 lbs, horseback riding was the number one thing on my to-do-list once we arrived in the mountains. The horses seemed to be well taken care of and enjoyed what they were doing. The guide and all the employees were really friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We will most definitely be back next year.

Staff and customer service is fine, besides a girl on the cash register was not wearing a mask. Maybe local laws are different. Tiffany was a good guide. What was disappointing is how they are take care of animals. We had a ride at 12:00pm so it is not like the end of the day. Horses, at least my horse, were very tired. most of them were quite dirty and not brushed. This place makes good money, I believe they could take care of horses much better. When we were leaving there was a small horse or donkey in the middle of a parking lot in a horrible condition without any supervision. I went and asked if they can do something about it, a lady said “she is fine... i will take care of it”. You can be the judge if it is fine by looking at the pictures attache

The trip was shorter than expected but it was very pretty. Large tour groups means more chances of people causing issues and us spending more time sitting still rather than moving. Only other complaint was that a majority of the horses we saw needed some tender love and care. (They were very matted) not all the horses were though I had a sweet girl who seemed well taken care of and recently brushed. But my husbands horse was matted badly and seemed to not want work. Our guides Frank and Angie were AMAZING and our rides was calming and wonderful (so much so we went twice!). The sites were breath taking. So much to see from up there and even better on the back of a horse. The horses were trained so well they knew exactly what to do even if you didnt. We will definitely be back before heading back home. Would recommend!!!!

Had a great time riding the horses here. The horses were very well mannered and well taken care of. I had a great time riding the horse and stroking its mane while we waited for the group to come together. Beautiful horses and the staff was very friendly. Stephanie was our guide and she was great and was like a horse whisperer. Whenever a horse stopped she would call to it and it would start up again.

Our experience was AMAZING! We had amazing views, friendly/funny staff, and wonderful horses. Our guide (Tiffany, I believe) was so kind, cared about our lives, and was so helpful. In addition to all of this, they took COVID precautions seriously and that was very appreciated. It was hard to find places in the area that actually enforced masks/cleaning precautions. 10/10 from me and my group!

Very corporate. The horses seemed very tired. Ive riden horses a lot and I understand you need to have older horses that arent likely to run off and bolt with a rider but what we could see kind of made you wonder what you couldnt. Several of the horses were brushed out, my horse had burrs in his ears and a horse ahead of me had over 100 burrs all tangled in his tail.I dont think theyre being mistreated but they arent living in the lap of luxury either. The views were as good as you could expect for being so close to the strip and the ride time was good for the amount of money paid. I just would have been willing to pay more for an experience with happier horses.

We did NOT have a good experience with either the staff or the quality/care of the horses at 5 Oaks riding stable. By not informing us to be at the stable 30 minutes ahead of time, we were left and told we could not have a refund. Even when an employee called us the day before to firm up our reservation, he failed to mention that time difference from what is on the website. After trying to reason with the guy and figure out what we could do, he just walked away from us. The animals were sad to look at. Horses’ tails were matted and covered in burrs, the most pitiful donkey was standing in the middle of the road catatonic, and one of the horses had a terrible cough. There is zero customer service, and I’m pretty sure the strategy is to have people miss their rides and then refuse the refund bc it happened to another group while we were still there. We will not go back...

Worst experience here in Tennessee! I went here with my girlfriend for the nice views and calm horse ride, but got the opposite of that.Horses were assigned by random. But when my horse was selected, I asked to have my girlfriend use the horse instead. But I was denied, and she was assigned the worst horse in the stable. What we experienced for the next hour was probably the worst hour we experienced here in Tennessee. Her horse was easily startled. And while my girlfriend kept the reins relaxed (I can easily see she was doing nothing), her horse tended to veer from side to side, making very sharp turns. At times coming very close to very dangerous ledges or going directly into the trees and bushes at the side of the trail. And instead of helping out or taking control, our guide told my girlfriend to “try harder”. And what’s worse, our guide mocked her to get cheap laughs from the rest of the group. It felt like she was being singled out. And at the end of the trip, our guide asked if this trip was my idea. Like our guide was trying to shift the blame to me and provoke our relationship. When I went to confront our guide about assigning an uncontrollable horse to my girlfriend and our guide’s mocking attitude, we were met with an “are you serious” reply. No sense of responsibility whatsoever.Besides the unprofessional guide, the trail itself leaves a lot to be desired. The trail itself is very muddy and smelly. And that mud and stuff will easily fly to your legs. And since the trail is right next to a set of shopping malls, you can imagine the views we were getting. I recall only seeing a memorable view for all of two seconds. All in all, the experience was ruined by our unprofessional guide and dirty trail. I do not know how this place gets as many good reviews at it does. But I guess the threshold for good online ratings should be much much higher these days.

My husband and I booked easily on line the night before we went. Guides did a great job selecting appropriate horse to rider combinations. It was clear they took good care of their horses and stable area. Our guide Jessie did a great job keeping up with everyone and pointing out good photo spots. While my husband and I have our own horses and ride regularly there were people in the group who had clearly never been on a horse, but they were safe the whole time. It was nice to sit back and enjoy the ride through hills which are a little harder to come by in Florida. From start to finish it was a good experience, worth the money, and very safe.

Not impressed. Their website brags about how the horses are so well treated and not overworked. That is not what I observed. It was 3:30 when we rode and most of the horses seemed tired. On the ride, the horses had to plod up steep hills with riders and slog through shin-deep mud in several places on the trail. I really felt guilty about putting the horse through that and wished I could dismount and walk. In addition, my saddle was not properly adjusted -- the stirrups were so high, my right knee, leg & foot were cramping 5 min into the ride and hurt throughout the ride and for a week after the event. I was unable to balance my weight because I couldnt push myself back to center with my right foot with such a high stirrup. The guide was very impatient with me and singled me out several times for verbal reprimands in front of the entire group which was very embarrassing, but he wasnt interested in discussing what might be the problem or a solution. He just blew me off and at one point commented that I had never ridden before and didnt know what I was doing (which was not true). The horse did not follow the rein commands even though I was careful to do exactly what I had been told with the reins. I felt like this was another indicator that the horse was tired that late in the day. I will never go there again and will discourage anyone I know from doing so. I wish PETA or some rescue organization would go in and take the horses. They have a weight limit for riding, but honestly, some of the people looked too heavy for the horses. I was within the weight limit but still felt like I was too heavy to be on the horse I rode.

We thoroughly enjoyed our guided horse ride. Very relaxing and much needed. The guides were very interactive and helpful with everyone but especially for those with minimal riding experience. Definitely recommend their riding attraction during your vacation trip! One reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 was due to the young lady behind the counter. I asked about other shirt sizes not on the rack and without hesitation she said no we dont have any. Luckily for our group the other young lady with blonde hair who also took the pictures said let me look, Im pretty sure we do. Sure enough there were multiple colors and sizes available. Thank you to that young blonde hair lady, you ensured our experience stayed great!

Our guide was awesome. Horses are well trained, we had a blast. However one of the horses on the trail was foundered or had joint issues, and the company continued to use him. Also, the long bearded guy that drives the zip line truck drives 100 mph, the trails you ride in cross the trucks path. We were yards from being hit today. Management needs to evaluate safety protocols, enforce them and work on communications between employees.

I will start by saying overall my experience was good. I wish you could rate the indoor staff aside from the riding stables and zip lining, as I I would rate lower but feel that is unfair to the rest of the staff. Nickels who was working the pictures area and shirt sales inside was horrible. She seems to be lacking basic customer service skills and there was absolutely no enthusiasm, character, or energy felt while interacting with people. When you would ask a question she would stare at you as if you were speaking a different language and didn’t understand or something, so I would repeat myself a few times until she would answer. Sales and deals were not mentioned, you has to ask. There was a sign with the prices/deals in a different area away from the counter where the pictures where being dealt. The place offers a deal when buying photos and a t-shirt. I had already bought the flash drive of the photos after zip lining and tried to purchase a shirt after horse back riding. Had I known there was a deal I would have bought them together. When I asked if I could still get the discount (went the same day, flash drive still in hand) I was told no. Fine, whatever. When she realized that my family member and I we together/same group and bought an additional flask drive from horse back riding, she said we could have got one flash for both activities and not had to pay $25 twice. When it came to actually putting the photos on one and turning back in the other, and letting us use the money on the merchandise she change her story. The question that was asked was “can we just buy the one for $25 or put the pictures on both flash drive”(with no refund and paying $25 for each), she said yes. This was not true. She would not follow through. Mind you we never left the store after buy the second flash drive.Long story short: Ryan and Bobby with zip lining and Logan with horse back riding were great.Nickels was horrible. Needs help/training in customer service and sales.

For the amount of money I see spent on advertising this place, I would have assumed they took better care of their animals. Their horses already seemed tired mid day and it showed. You could see a couple getting irritated and trying to bite each other in the stalls. The horse my husband was on tried to bite the horse in front of him 3 separate times on the trail. Most did not seem well groomed either. There was a small horse or donkey roaming by itself in the waiting/parking area that looked ROUGH. You could see the build up in his tail alone. This just isnt acceptable. I went to the Big Rock Dude Ranch last year for some horseback riding and it was very clear that they cared for their animals properly there.

I didn’t really enjoy the horseback riding trip, at least to say I wouldn’t do it again. I had a good horse, guide was nice, but just didn’t enjoy the ride. The horse in front of mine was possessed and constantly wanted to battle my horse. The terrain was just not fun, more nerve racking than enjoyable. That’s the reason for two stars. I asked the leader to get a picture of me on the horse and he did not. When we got back to view our pictures the Computer had crashed and we waited 30 minutes for their system to reboot before leaving without getting to see our pictures. Due to weather, we decided to cancel. Was given a brochure and lady pointed to the number and I was directed to call the number because she didnt handle refund. Dialed the number and spoke with Tracy and was told I couldnt be refunded and that I would have had to cancel 24 hours prior. I informed Tracy that we wanted to ride but was told it would not be until 3pm(our appt was at 10am). She confirmed, even with bad weather, that she would not be refunding our $134.07. I expressed to Tracy how that didnt make sense and that if it were not raining, we would be riding. She put me on hold and told me she cancelled it and disconnected the call, making me unsure of a refund. I called back and was able to speak with Party about the entire experience and to request a confirmation # for a refund. Party took care of it and sent a confirmation email. The sun came out sooner than expected, but based on how my daughters and I were treated... I refused to spend money with this company. Having a spirit of excellence will take a company far!! Great experience. Wish the ride was longer, even if you had to pay more. I would of. Plus they dont do any running. Just a long walk.

This was my familys second year of riding at Five Oaks Riding Stables. Our horses, Larry, Miss Smokey, and Walden were good horses We enjoy this ride so much and our guide Tiffany was awesome!!! She was so helpful and answered all my sons 1001 questions.. We will definitely be back next year and would reccomend this place to anyone looking for a great riding experience. THANKS TIFFANY

We did the horseback riding and zip-lining and both were an absolute blast. I would highly recommend this place. My only warning is that the horseback riding trail includes pretty steep mountain inclines, so dont have your young children ride alone.

Avoid this place! I did a trail ride this week and when I arrived I was horrified at the condition of the horses. Most were too old to still be working and almost all of the horses had burrs matted in their mane and looked very uncomfortable. Our guide was fun but the trail was not enjoyable. The employees inside were Unprofessional, constantly complaining about their coworkers in front of customers.

Such a beautiful place to ride horses. Im from NC and I wish that we had places like these. The trail is shaded and follows right next to a river throughout the trail, has steep climbs but is a really calm trail. My horse was Casanova and he was the funniest horse ever, bobbing his head and trotting. I highly reccommend this place to whoever is thinking about going to a horse riding trail

We took our 5 year old on his first horseback ride and the experience could not have been better. The ride was little over an hour through beautiful vistas and our guide was awesome. This is a first rate operation.
