We happened upon Hook & Ladder as they were the only winery with a 5 oclock seating on a Thursday in the area. Lisa took our reservation over the phone and was awesome (in person as well). No knock to Lisa but Randy stole the show. He greated us by matching my girlfriends dance moves as we walked up. The pours were generous, the knowledge of wine was fantastic and Randy was just genuinely one of the most interesting people Ive ever met. We were fascinated to hear his stories. He would try and walk away and apologize for talking so much but I couldnt get enough. He was amazing!Honestly the best happen stance experience Ive ever had!
It’s rare to find people doing what they love at work. Happy people = good tasting wine? In this case, definitely yes. They make a sustainable wine using compost made from grapes, and plants with deep roots that can take water from deep down in the earth. Wish they used a vegan emulsifier to clarify the wine though. In any case, we had an amazing experience. It’s a very family friendly place.
The wine is superb, just like the service from the staff. I love the dedication to giving back to the firefighter and military community. Im an Army veteran and was pleasantly surprised when they offered to cover my tasting fee. That was unexpected and much appreciated. Definitely check out the winerys four rows series. Their attention to detail makes for a great set of varietals, especially their Cab Franc...my favorite!
Nice location with a laid back vibe. Great customer service. Very nice wines with good variety.
Fantastic wines, and genuine, excellent customer service. Everything was being cleaned continually. My first COVID outing and I was not disappointed.
We had a wonderful time here with some out-of-town friends. Devon took great care of us. We are looking forward to future visits.
Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name. This is that place. as I walked up today, Lisa greeted me by singing quotation Maria Maria; so I do mean that literally. We have been one club members for several years. and though this place is constantly making lovely improvements, it never really changes for what it is at the core: a truly local Sonoma county winery, run by a family of firefighters. They recently painted their barn red, which I personally feel is a subconscious tribute to the loss of our big round red Barn in the 2017 fires.I recommend this winery to anyone whos looking for a lovely and very personal Sonoma county experience. I almost dont want to tell you all about it, so that there will be fewer people when I go. Its that good.
I stumbled upon H&L somewhat accidentally. While on a scouting trip of other wineries in the area (I run organized group trips so scout out the wines and venue in advance) one of the neighboring wineries actually suggested I visit H&L also. Since I had time I made the stop. Now I know why they recommended H&L! This place is wonderful! Heres what struck me:1) down to earth atmosphere, not pretentious, very welcoming! Sort of like Cheers2) friendly wine educators who were lovely to talk to and work with, friendly patrons too!3) very long list of wines you can taste in a flight, so many choices! Keep in mind most are red.4) the wines were really good too! I found that each one I tried was very intensely flavored and indicative of the variety and region, they were spot on! Most are easy to drink now but some are age worthy as well.5) the price point is easy for anyone to work with! Such a great value.6) the outside and inside of the tasting room was clean and inviting, like hanging out in your own backyard!Ive since been working with Devin to arrange a group trip and share the magic that is H&L with all my friends, colleagues, peers but alas COVID-19 interrupted our plans for a large group trip. Despite that Devin has been super creative and accommodating in working with me on another virtual adventure for my group since we cant make the in-person bus trip with 50! Not yet anyway! In the meantime, I will start buying more and more of the Pinot Noir as I think it should become my go-to everyday wine. Its so bright and juicy with fresh strawberries, raspberries, cherry cola, vanilla and light oak. Its beautiful! Cheers H&L! Heres to more of your wines arriving shortly and to the future success of your winery!
Great place. Great wines and great staff
Ive been a member here for a few years. The variety of wines, at really reasonable prices, is great. The facilities are beautiful and relaxing. They have bocce and corn hole amongst their picnic tables, with is surrounded by their estate grape vines. Their staff are just as amazing. Ive had a lot of past experience with Devin who is great, but our host today was Randy and he truly went above and beyond to ensure our group had a great experience, while also doing the same for other groups. He embodies the heart and soul of what the hospitality industry is about.
Absolutely love their white wines and the host Randy was great! Just got my shipment of wines in the mail, thank you!!
Ended up leaving with a case of wine! Cant go wrong with that! Lovely people amazing section of wine bridles and what an interesting story!
My husband and I have been club members for years. Their hospitality is amazing. Wonderful customer service and excellent wine.
This is a gem of a winery. One of those places you walk in and wonder what you’re going to get. Fireman memorabilia and T-shirts abound. The people don’t take themselves too seriously but the wine is serious stuff. Their Zinfandel and petite Syrah were fabulous as were the other bottlings. Kudos. We will be joining the club
Fantastic wines!! Lisa was so fun as our server and the atmosphere is so fun!!! My firefighter husband traded shirts with them and left his shirt from Brillion Wisconsin Fire Dept!! Such a great idea. Thanks for a great time️
We so love Hook and Ladder. They never disappoint!!
We were there on Presidents Day so it was busy. Devon and his crew made it look easy keeping everyone tasting good wines and taking a moment to explain each one. We bought an assorted case of wine. Will be back soon.
Devin was incredible. Very hospitable, very informative and was a true pleasure to spend time with. And... the wines! Fantastic. The Four Rows Cab Franc is phenomenal! Go and enjoy yourself!
We love hook and ladder. The people are extremely friendly. The atmosphere is great for families. Outdoor area is serene. Plus great wine at good prices.
Tasting hosts were great with good conversation, recommend.
Great wine at very reasonable prices. Employees are very personable and engaging.
Not sure Id take the advice of a review that confused the word there with their, but Hook & Ladder is absolutely fantastic. We were there on a Tuesday afternoon and Devon was so friendly and knowledgeable that we felt we were getting the full wine tasting experience. We ended up meeting Beverly later, and she was fantastic as well. The wine was really great and we ended walking away with a reasonably priced bottle of their popular Tillerman. I highly recommend visiting them.
Very affordable and very good wines. Who wouldnt want to support fire fighters??
We love hook and ladder. The wines are amazing, the staff are super fun, and the outdoor area is a great place to hangout.
Friendly tasting room staff. Enjoyed the conversation and the wines.
Nice people, and everything we tasted was great!
Great wine, great atmosphere! Servers are fun and outgoing.
I thought their wine was fabulous. Even became a wine club member. Their wine maker came from Peju so it explains why its so amazing!
Great spot to visit and taste wine in the Russian River Valley! Relaxed and friendly too!
Lovely small winery-fabulous wines and super friendly, knowledgeable staff.
Best winery Ive ever been to, because their wines are the best!!!
GREAT winesat a good price point, great people, relaxed atmosphere highly recommend
Always a solid variety of wines and usually really nice people working.
Great wine and great people.
Great wines at amazing prices. Michael was awesome.
Casual atmosphere. Friendly staff. Nice pours.
The Magic Grape Make the bery best Shanpagne and Wine
Love this place.
Why anyone would purchase wine from the Hook and Ladder is baffling. Third rate wines brought to you by some of the very worst people in the wine industry which is saying a lot. There farming practices are among the worst in the industry. Bad people, Bad wine...
