The spring has a very strong smell to it. It doesnt just smell like sulfur so you have to have a strong stomach to stay long. The slides are a lot of fun, especially since there isnt typically a long line. However, the slide is only open weekends for select hours. It is reasonably priced.

Got kicked out of the KOA for having a tent and made it to Avila hot springs 10 mins before the closed the front office. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The swimming pool and showers close at 6pm and open again at 8am so be aware. Outside of that they had port-a-potties outside for use that were kept pretty clean. Considering we were left with nowhere to stay this was definitely worth it. It is also $30 cheaper to camp here then the KOA. Be cautious that there is a lot of road noise 24 hrs of the day. Considering there isn’t many tent camping options around here I would definitely stay again.

I live near Avila Beach but has never been to the hot springs. I went for the first time and had a ball! The staff is super friendly and it was actually raining that day. There was thunder so the swim staff made everyone get out of the water, which I really appreciated. SAFETY FIRST! It’s an older place but I highly recommend it for a stay or just a swim day.

This is one of the places that I have great memories of as child. From the early 1970s until today we have been there so many times! As a child we would play in the big warm pool for hours playing on inertubes, while our old-folk parents soaked in the big hot tub. Now Im the old-folk going with my wife and son! They added the slides some years ago but not before I became an old-folk, so jealous! I also remember the horse riding across the street that had been like an old west cowboy ranch for many years until it was reclaimed by the mountain.I am forever grateful that Avila Hot Springs has stayed the original nostalgic place it is. While the new Avila Beach is beautiful, its not the same place where my family and friends have made so many memories over the years, especially high school summers.Take your family and enjoy, unplug and really enjoy the simple pleasures.

NOT OPEN! Looks like a nice place, but no where on their website, Google page, or in their voicemail message does it say anything about being closed for covid. Many hot springs in south central California are open so myself and a friend made a 4 hour journey to try this spring only to find that it was closed. We knew the risk, hence 2 stars instead of 1. We drove 40 minutes north to Franklin hot springs and had a great time.

1st let me say the office staff was wonderful! The pool was nice. The property is what it is... They really need a night manager or keeper. Every 15 minutes or so for nearly 2 hours (9 to at least 11ish) some resident decided to reve his engine. The sheriff came out twice but were not all that interested in handling things. We gained a neighbor when they switched spots after closing and invaded our area. Needless to say we got out of there as quickly as we could pack it up in the morning.

This was a great place to visit! Theres log cabins here to hang out at, hot springs and a big community pool. I only got to be in the pool, but it was very nice and big! There werent that many people even though it was a warm and sunny Sunday too. My only complaint with this place is that its basically right off of the freeway. Its far enough away and theres a fence so theres privacy, but the noise and the dirt are rather apparent. Other than that, theyre supposed to have movie nights where you can hang out at the hot springs. Sounds fantastic! I highly recommend this place to just come hang out and relax for a few hours by the pool or hot springs!

Very relaxing place to soothe sore muscles or just to simply relax. The customer service was excellent and they didnt make us feel stupid for asking dumb questions. The pool was heated to 84 degrees and I believe the hot spring was 104 degrees. I read other reviews that said the sulfur smell was very strong, but I didnt think it was bad at all. Another review talked about womens showers, but they have 2 single unisex shower stalls. My skin feels so soft and smooth too. Were already planning a family trip to come back. Oh also, bring a towel, otherwise you can buy one for $5.

Bargain Hot Springs in AvilaAt $12 for an all-day pass, this somewhat worn down, but clean and friendly spot cant be beat for a local bargain. The weekday I went, there was a mix of folks--- a few solo sunbathers, some young cyclists, two couples from Eastern Europe, an extended family from Japan, and a local friend group of 40-something females. Has an old-time rural So.Cal vibe for sure. Bring your own towel, food and drinks, or use the wristband for a food break at the nearby Barn or one of the Avila Beach restaurants .For me, this was a perfect way to spend a few hours-- soaking up the Fall sunshine and mineral waters with a good book in hand.If youre looking for something more picturesque and semi-private, you can always opt for a tub reservation at the swankier Sycamore Mineral Springs just down the road at $17.50/ hour.

Took my grandson and his two buddys. 3 nine year olds that were full of energy at high octane. They took to the heated pool and proceeded to have a blast and they met friends! I was in the mineral pool just reaquainting myself with Nature. The boys came over and respectfully sat and enjoyed warm soothing waters along with grandpa. They Loved it! We stayed till they closed at 10pm. My knees and my body feel totally rejuvenated! What a great day a time! Not bad for 3 9yr olds and a Grandpa.

Disclaimer- don’t camp here. It’s loud from from hwy 101 buzzing nearly all night long. Even with earplugs it was nearly a sleepless night. Front desk said this wouldn’t be a problem and it was. The campground is nothing more than a parking lot back to back on top of each other sites that were not worth the money. I booked a hotel even though I had another night paid to camp here. The bathrooms at the springs were dirty. Wear Sandals in the shower. Springs themselves were alright but closed at 10pm. Thanks to the college parents weekend all the damn hotels were booked. Not a very good experience here for a much needed peaceful sleep.

I can’t be too upset, because this facility is so reasonably priced. It seems like an inexpensive way to get a day pass to a pool. It must be especially relaxing on sore muscles. It is worn down, though, and since I visited on a weekday in the off-season, it was sparsely populated with retirees—something, through no fault of their own, did not help refresh the atmosphere.Because I have visited other hot springs before, I wasn’t prepared for the strong sulfur smell. Be warned that a quick rinse afterward might not do it, because I smelled like sulfur (reminded me of pencil erasers) for at least four hours afterward, at which point I took a more thorough shower. Also, the minerals are pretty drying (which makes senses), so maybe bring lotion.

I returned in October 2018 for the first time since an extended family road trip in September 1988.The facilities are definitely aged - this is not a posh resort type of hot springs. It also looks rather disorganized in the bike rental and dining areas. Dont expect towel service; bring your own or pay $5 to buy one on-site. The aesthetic is more of that of an old hippie commune. But that is what makes this place charming. Inexpensive cover charge - $12 for an adult that goes down to $8 after 5PM - makes for an affordable getaway for families, just like it had been back in 1988 and still is now. Ill surely be returning with my niece when she and my sister are in town from Georgia. The hot spa definitely made me feel much better after 10-15 minutes in there, even in the chilly Central California air. The springs are also used to heat the fresh water swimming pool, which is Olympic-sized and has both shallow and deep areas for swimmers of all ages and abilities, and because of the heat, it is usable even on colder days.Ill surely be back. In less than another 30 years, I promise!

Everything about this place was a disappointment. Their facilities were run down and very dirty. The front desk lady is very unapproachable and makes people feel inferior. For those camping, like we did, there was a 10pm - 8am quiet time. This sounded great until there was a giant party in the tent area... Yelling, screaming, laughing, slamming car doors, breaking things, etc. Mind you, I’m in my early twenties and enjoy going out and having fun with friends. This was not your casual party, it was completely uncalled for and rude as it lasted until we packed up our stuff and left at 2am because we could not sleep. I called the phone number several times that night to see if they could enforce their “Quiet Hours Rule”, they never answered and did not have an answering machine. Needless to say, I will not be back and do not recommend anyone wasting their time or money on this run down dump.

One star because the hot springs were hot. As for the resort itself, they haven’t reinvested back into the property for a few decades. As I looked around the place from the hot springs to the showers/changing rooms, because of the lack of cohesion and upkeep I wondered if there was something else going on here. $75 for 25’ dry RV camping no hookups for a family of five near noisy freeway and out of reach of the wifi. Had to camp in dirt parking lot in front of office for the night in order to shield ourselves from the noise. Overpriced. Would NOT recommend.

$45 per night for tent camping. The bathroom and showers are not available 24/hrs. If you wish to shower in the morning, you have to wait until after 8am; early morning hikers be warned. The only reason Im staying here is because there is literally nothing else available for tent camping without a 4x4 vehicle..$45 per night and I cant use the shower when my schedule allows for it.. cool thanks for taking my money and limiting the access clean facilities. The two piss soaked port-o-potties make me feel like I have gotten a value for the American dollar.Note to owners/management;I would suggest updating the park once every 25years. You know put some money back into the business that you use to gouge the public. If your going to make us bleed to sleep here, a complementary cup of coffee in the morning would be nice. You know a nice way of saying thanks for spending your money at our camp site.
