For years, I have always called it the White Candle Stick because it does look like one. Coit Tower, a slender white concrete column rising from the top of Telegraph Hill, has been an emblem of San Franciscos skyline since its completion in 1933, a welcoming beacon to visitors and residents alike. It sits on top of Pioneer Park in down town San Francisco and provides 360-degree views of the city and bay, including the Golden Gate and Bay bridges. Furthermore, there are tower viewers (binoculars) around the place so you can see other landmarks in the bay area. Parking at the tower is very, very limited, so I suggest park on the surrounding street. Overall, I enjoyed my visit and the free self tour guide.
One of the most magical beautiful places you can find in San Francisco. You will not be disappointed coming to this place! To bring everyone thats out of the country and out of town to this place! This place is fun for every age young and old! Im very historical place and I will leave you and jaw drop
A place to be visited when in San Francisco. Best to go in a clear day, so the skyline can be seen much better. At night the view from the top of hill is awesome, once the lights of the city and the tower itself make the scene even more beautiful. Be prepared to get stuck at traffic when going up by car. A good option would be to use alternative transportation.
Coit tower is such a great place to look out and over all of the San Francisco landscape! Theres a great view of the bay and downtown SF. Multiple trails, parking is free, and there are multiple stationary binoculars (that cost 25 cents for a couple minutes) so you can see closer! Overall great visit. Loved it!!
This was worth the trip up the hill. We spent about 20 mins here. It was closed up due to Covid. We just walked around and took in the several viewpoints of the city. Great opportunity for some cool pictures. Recommend stopping here while youre in the city. Also check out Lombard street. The drive in between these two locations is pretty neat. Karma cafe is along the route. Also worth a stop.
Cant imagine a visit to SF without a walk up Filbert or Sansom St steps to Coit Tower. Tower sits in park-like setting, a gift to the city in 1935. Adjacent turf by Tower offers panaramas of the bay. And more magical, mystical San Francisco vistas.A caveat -- due to Covid situation -- entry into Coit Tower isnt currently possible.Note: Everyones welcome to walk/drive up the hill. Meander its beautiful grounds, ck out the calm, serene vibe.Interior features murals painted on curved walls dating back to mid1930s, many by Mexican artist Diego Rivera(m Frieda Kahlo). Commissions by FDRs WPA provided jobs to out-of-work artists....these gems, along w/a $5 elevator ride to upper level may be reinstated.Contact SF tourism.Visiting the oddly wonderful + awe inspiring spot is a great stretch for the legs. Recommend!***Great at Tonys/to go upon descending hilltop to Stockton St.
Scenic landmark and memorable drive up the streets getting up to it. First place one of our host brought us when we hit the city from the bay area at the end of January 2020. Pity the tower was closed for maintenance else greater views could be seen from up there. The murals tells a fascinating story of the making of this city into an industrial powerhouse and finance its known for in this state.
A bit difficult to rate this since we couldnt actually visit indoors do to covid-19. However, a lovely view of the city and an interesting building from the outside. Would have been wonderful to climb the tower and see the whole city from that height. Minimal parking but there is parking which is a plus.
Great view of SF! If your in good enough shape, start out with a coffee on Union Square and make a walk out of it. Once done, reward your self with a down hill trip to the Wharf and a well deserved crab lunch!
Cant remember the time before last going when there were actually people there.... I say that because last time I went was during coronavirus restrictions and it was very empty. If you dare there are still the little 25cent binoculars that you can look out over the city with that are operational in the parking lot area. Its a nice view. The tower is very old too and a historic landmark.
Theres free parking for a bit! One of the only few places with free parking, weekends you cant park there... but really you can hang out and if you see someone just dip out lol. Anyway great spot to just relax for a bit!The trees are kind of high these days so the bay view isnt super accessible at all spots, but its still great to go.
Coit Tower for sure has the best view in San Francisco. Will cost you some effort climbing the steps at Greenwich Steps, but is so worth it!Entering Coit Tower you will find unbelievably painted walls all over the ground floor. Once you’ve purchased a ticket, you can admire the beautiful paintings as you wait in the waiting line.Waiting lines can get pretty big, as the elevator can only take dozen of people up and they try to limit the people up in order to let people enjoy still.Once arrived at the top, you will find magnificent 360 degrees view over beautiful San Francisco.
Its a good spot on your list when you traveling to San Francisco. But yet nothing special about it. It costs $9 to get to the top, but you get a good views from the bottom of the tower too. Please note, that the top of the tower isnt open, meaning you will have to look and take a picture through the glass windows.
I highly recommend this place, its really cool here! I also love taking pictures and walking around the tower.
A beautiful example of classic state history and development murals from 1930s California. Location has stunning views. Well worth going when without long lines for the elevator to the top.Avoid during summer when lines to elevator are long. Not worth waiting hours. Nice, but not that nice.
Beautiful park and views. Can drive right up. Great place for pictures or even a drink. Beautiful at sunset.
Great view! Its closed。You cant got up the tower!
Great views of the city! From the top you get a panoramic view of the city including the golden gate bridge the bay bridge and fishermans wharf
360° of San Francisco. Beautiful views of the city. The walk up the steps is rigorous, but worth it. I would recommend taking the bus or a taxi up the hill to save time and energy. There was not much of a wait. The elevator operator was educational and pleasant to speak with on the quick ride up and down.
Coit Tower is something you must visit in San Francisco! All the way to get to the top is beautiful!! An amazing view for all spots of SF! Coit Tower is something you must try hiking too! The whole experience is magical! :) The tickets cost $9.00 and worth the price!!!
Great vista of the City, cool history to learn. Limited parking, so best to find parking down the hill and walk up to it. Totally worth it.
Love this place! The lights of city is more beautiful and great view of the bay.
Amazing views of the city. If youre lucky enough to visit on a sunny day, you can see both Golden Gate Bridge and Bay Bridge from here.
Great view of San Francisco city from Coit Tower. You can see city streets and Golden Gate bridge from here. There is a limited amount of parking available near the tower. There are beautiful murals on the inner walls of the tower. We did not take the elevators to go to the top of tower, but I am sure the view would be even more beautiful from the top of the tower. This review was written to be helpful to you, the consumer, and, to also bring relevant information to the attention of the business in focus. This tower have a great 360 view of coast and part of the city. It has a easy access but not many parking spots. There is a toilet near the tower. The fee to get up is $9 dollars. In your way going up there are a lot of painting representing bay are in its early days. You access the top trough an elevator and is operated for a staff member which by the way is very enthusiastic. She know a lot of languages, including Spanish.
A great morning at Coit Tower. The artwork on entry is interesting, and the staff there were so nice. The gent who took us up to the top told us some interesting facts, and was so excited for us all that the cloud was lifting. The assistant in the gift shop was also most helpful and polite, and made time to welcome people as they walked in.A great trip, spectacular views and well ran. Will definitely visit again and take more people with me on my next visit.
Great views. I grew up in the area and had never been to Coit Tower before! We went on a clear day and we could see the entire bay, and beyond. There was a guide on top who explained what we were seeing when we asked—super helpful. But the best part of the tower is downstairs—the WPA murals. Such a bounty of colors and depictions of life in the 30’s. There were bank robbers, and farm workers, policemen, industrial workers, just an amazing array of life in California. I spent more time studying the murals than I spent upstairs, and both were unforgettable experiences.
Tbh the view was pretty disappointing. The bushes block it. There are much better places to go for views
Coit Tower...Coit Tower...We have to go to Coit Tower... Even with the person you love most in the world repeating it over and over, you wont get it until youve actually been up in it and seen The City from it. Nothing matches the pristine panorama of the entirety of San Francisco like the view you can only get from Coit Tower. You may as well stop arguing and do it, you wont be disappointed, and much like the Grand Canyon, pictures dont provide the dimension to do it justice.
Incredible views of the San Francisco area. Easy parking. Very nice.
Okay the guy at the top was a grump until we found common ground to talk about. Apart from that everyone was friendly and helpful. The views are good and for the tourist you can see where you have been or up the mountainside we just climbed - stairs, stairs and stairs! We bought some cool artwork - prints by the resident artist and plans of the Golden Gate Bridge and even a kids book. Enjoyable experience.
Coit tower is a classic San Francisco landmark! Hard to miss. Plenty of great seating around the tower if you bring a lunch. Unfortunately the tower has been closed every time Ive been there because of Covid, but still impressive from the outside.
A classic San Francisco must-see! Amazing views at the top, and the tickets are cheaper for SF residents! If you want to get some workout, walk up to the tower using the Greenwich steps, they are just beautiful and tucked away between houses! Also notice the murals in the tower!
Great views, difficult to get to. Try walking yp the stairs.
Its a beautiful structure with amazing views of the city, the bay, Alcatraz, the Golden Gate bridge, and other sites! Pricing is reasonable considering the funds go to maintaining this piece of local history. Theres not much else to do and Its crowded at the top, but its definitely still a must-see for visitors. Go see a unique view of the city and the surrounding bay!
Visited Coit Tower on a beautiful Friday afternoon with great weather. The 360 degree view of San Francisco is amazing, allowing you to spot iconic landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and downtown. There are pedestrian paths to reach Coit Tower, and adults will need to pay US$9 to take a lift to the top of the tower. Enjoyed the trip here and would recommend this place to anyone!
Amazing view of embarcadero [ ferry building] and finicial district ah not to mention treasure island
Breath taking always. Everyone needs to check this out.
The admission is very affordable. Their souvenir shop is definitely a must stop spot. They have really good stuff and also for a very affordable price. To get up to the tower, there’s the 39 bus, that you can take from the North Point St & Stockton St, very close to Pier 39. I recommend not to take a uber pool, in my case my Uber driver drop me off on a street down the tower and I had to crawl my way up there hehe
Was awesome for pictures but just like most things you cannot enter the tower ...covid got San Francisco on lock
Thats a great view!you should definitely stop for here.
One of the famous tourist spots in San Francisco. You can see spectacular view of San Francisco city, Alcatraz, Bay Bridge and Golden Gate bridge from here. For a small fee you can go to the top of the tower, Views are pretty good from there too. When I visited last week, Columbus statue has been dismantled, which was in from of Coit Tower.
I just wish it was open so I could see what this amazing place is like inside
Ive been to SF many times, but finally made it to Coit Tower this time. What great views of the city! You can take lots of great pics outside and then get a ticket to go up into the tower itself and get highest 360 views. Definitely worth the trip!
Line is long in the weekends but over all the scenery is definitely worth the visit. Learning some history and enjoy the great vibe of sf
Cool place to visit when in San Francisco. Climbing up the stairs to reach the tower is a challenge if you don’t want to drive up. Once up there, the view of the city and the Bay Area is breathtaking. From top of the tower, you see the golden bridge and Oakland clearly. For first timer to SF, it is definitely a place to visit.
This place on the right day at the right time is amazing... what a view! I went on one of those days (so I was told by a few employees)...(the sun kissed my pictures so well) the line was long but moved at a good pace. Price was fair. Theres a little cafe sitting area that is priced okay as well. There are lots of murals to look at and talk about on the way up the tower ( you do have to walk up 2 flights of stairs so beware of that) I didnt want to post to much pictures because its beautiful to enjoy yourself. If your scared of heights beware...lol. I am but I was able to feel comfortable enough to get a few pics at the top. Thanks for reading. I really enjoyed San Francisco!
Great views, and a good walk. the only downside was that there were pretty crazy about the paintings on the walls (not touching them and whatnot), the staff could have dealt with that better, or they should simply put a protective barrier up.
Found our way to the top of San Francisco on a perfect day! The elevator ride was a great way to experience such an iconic location!
I’d seen the Coit tower from different parts of SF and it was on my list to walk from the Piers. There are multiple ways to reach Coit tower, public bus, cab, drive or walk. I walked along an array of beautiful houses which became more integrated with nature with increased elevation. The tower itself isn’t too impressive but the symbolism is. The view of pine trees lining across the Pacific Ocean is breathtaking. The Bay bridge and city view is good and free to do. There is a small fee (5-8$, I can’t recall) to go up for a better view.
Incredible views of the city and the Oakland Bridge at night
Awesome view of the city but the tower is closed due to coronavirus. Apparently the tower is infested with sickness
It is so beautiful up there. Unfortunately people are still not allowed up into the tower, but the views on the way up and down are still worth the trip. You can take Lombard street all the way up to the top, or you can take the Greenwich or Filbert street steps. There are gardens everywhere, and its a great workout. I was trying to find Julius Castle on this particular trip up, but it is hiding in the brush, I didnt have luck spotting it near the tower, but it can be spotted on the ground on Lombard and Chestnut right by the Embarcadero.
Excellent place to see 360 degree view of San Francisco. View at top of coit tower is amazing and must go.
Place #1 to visit. I dont really know why the golden gate is so popular if the other bridge looks more amazing . But anyway! Amazing place to meet a sunset. I forgot how much was the entrance fee but it worth it.There is the restroom inside if you are not a fan of portopoty.Fall in love with the wall painting. The first time in my life saw that it was made by crayons.Love the bear stamp, that you get from the cashier.
Coit Tower is a 210-foot tower in the Telegraph Hill neighborhood of San Francisco. in my point of view its a must-see place in San Francisco and everyone should visit it once.It offers panoramic views of San Francisco when you go all the way up t he top of the tower and its really good to see San Fransisco from there.
Fun place, check out the hummingbird garden on the Greenwich Steps.
I really enjoyed a lot. This is one of the most beautiful place in town.
Learn about the old wild west days and early pioneering families at Coit Tower on telegraph hill Cash is still king to take the elevator up to the top. Credit card work too. Its $9 a person to get to the top. Walk around the base inside the air conditioned mural and gift shop. There is a parking lot but I walked up and down the huge and steep hill. Also along the way is Lombard street the famous crooked street. Simply a must while visiting San Francisco.
Amazing views of the San Francisco city from the top in all directions. You can see the beautiful streets, downtown building, bay bridge, golden gate bridge, Alcatraz island and beautiful ocean. Perfect place to be on a sunny day. The tickets are 9$ but the stunning views are totally worth the price. There are beautiful murals on the inner wall on the bottom floor which is free to visit. The parking is limited. In case you dont intend to spent 9$ there are also great views from the bottom surrounding area.
We were in a rush.. And ubered there. I think walking up and enjoying all the views.. On a sunny day would be much nicer (very foggy most days, thanks SF:)
Great view of the city but the observation deck was closed due to construction.
Ive lost count of the number of times I have been to this place. It is a nest of calm and serenity when no one is around. Ive spent many a late nights walking up the steep inclines to reach the tower and sit down to simply reminisce about happy memories. There is something about occupying the mind in the mundane like the undulation of the waves while letting thoughts flit back and forth in your mind. It is meditative and quite refreshing. The breeze keeps you awake but puts your mind to sleep. If you visit at a convenient time in the summer, the crowds will color your experience.
Great place for the excellent view of San Francisco city and Pacific. There are couple of ways to reach here. We can take stairs from Embarcadero side or can drive up to Coit Tower entrance. Be prepared to climb a lot of stairs if choosing the stairs way.Entrance fee is $9 for adults and $6 for youth. After paying fee an elevator is used to take visitors to 11th floor. From here you need to climb few more stairs to reach the viewpoint. At the viewpoint, there are glass windows to enjoy the view of beautiful Financial District of San Francisco, Bay bridge and rest of the Bay area. It is a small place on top, hence you may need to wait for sometime after buying tickets. For us, the wait time was around 20 mins in the queue on a weekend.
Very beautiful sightseeing. We star walking from Levis through long stairs across beautiful gardens and old houses.Inside the tower there are awesome paintings on the walls.
Coit Tower rises 201 feet over Telegraph Hill and offers spectacular 360 degree, unobstructed views of San Francisco area. Getting there takes you onto some of the most exciting steep roads in San Francisco, where you need to park vertically to the curb then fight the challenge of opening and closing car doors. Walking them lets you know within a step or two if youre in shape to climb to the top...LOL The lower interior of Coit Tower is covered in beautiful murals that you can view while waiting for the elevator to a circular 40-50 step stairway to the viewing platform. Once you get there youll be in awe of the great city and bay views all around you. Attached youll find sun filled photos of the city and the fog hugging the Golden Gate Bridge and parts of the Bay. Enjoy we certainly did .
Great place to visit and see the city. Also learn some history.
Great views of the city with a staimaster type of hike and beautiful flowers, plants and trees lining the trek.
You have a nice view from there. Free parking. Inside the tower you have a souvenir shop and see some paintings which tells the history. If you want to get to to the top of the tower you have to pay an entrance fee of 10 $.
Fantastic view of San Francisco directly from the heart of the city. From the top, there are windows covering 360° of SF.20 minutes on the top of Coit Tower is good enough to appreciate the view and snap a few shots. The ticket to use the elevator costs $9,00 and they have washrooms at the local.
Absolutely worth going to Coit Tower. The structure and history of the site is worth visiting for San Franscio. You can travel up the tower if you desire at a fee. This is a beautiful area to visit
Nice tower, but hard to find parking. Best enjoyed from afar.
Excellent view from Coit Tower. Even if you do not go into the tower, the parking lot boasts excellent views of the city. Make sure to walk to the back of the tower to enjoy the view of downtown SF.
We were not able to get up the tower because of how busy it is. But the hike up through the neighbourhoods is great and offers some unique views of the bay and city.
Great view of the San Francisco city with a 360 degree observation deck! Best time to come here is around sunset! You get the golden light which is so beautiful and you can get pictures across the city! San Francisco residents can get a ticket just for 6 dollars, be sure to ask for that as the ticket list doesn’t mention that and only mentions the 9 dollar pricing for non-sf residents. Closes immediately post sunset so be sure to get there early so you have enough time to enjoy the view.
San Francisco Hall of Frescos - Free admission26 artists, including four women, painted 3,691 square feet of murals depicting contemporary San Francisco life. Most painter were disciples of famous Mexican artist Diego Rivera and painted in his social realist style.
Fun place with amazing views! And you can go to the top of the tower!
Beautiful views. Sad Christopher Columbus statue has been stored because of controversial present day vibs.
Recommend using the Filbert Street Wooden Steps to get here from near the ferry building. Great views.
Pretty cool, but some homeless people were there.
Its a shame this beautiful place has so many problems. We had items stolen from our car. The rear lift gate glass was broken into. Funny part, we went to the police and they said they have 50-70 cases of vandalized cars per day. My family and I are from Florida and we noticed the increment in taxes with every purchase we made, yet they dont have enough police officers to keep the area secure. HELLO what are you doing with the money? All visitors please be careful and just to let you know, we parked in front of Pier 39. We lost a lot of cash and passports. Create awareness so that local authorities intervene and make this city truly worth visiting. Will NOT reccomend.
Ive been to San Francisco many times however had not visited Coit Tower. The tower has a beautiful view of San Francisco and was constructed during the height of the Art Deco movement. Despite being from the depression era, the interiors highlight the triumph of mankind with a cartoony but realistic look. You can almost envision day-to-day life in the 1930s through these visualizations. The only downside to visiting Coit Tower is the wait. It took us almost 45 minutes of waiting to get in an elevator and visit the top.
Great views of the San Francisco skyline! Definitely worth the wait if you want great shots! If not then just look from around the circle at the base of the tower and save your money! Either way cool little tower!
Wonderful place to go, fun things to see.
Super cool place, i think i saw ghost, hope it was a reflection... you can see whole city at 360... even we spotted a fire in different county ....
Ive visited San Francisco many times, but this was my first visit to Coit Tower. Murals and gift shop on first floor. Pay the $5-6 to ride the elevator to the top because the 360° views are AMAZING!!!
Enjoyed going!Actually went three times to see the views!Very majestic!Seeing the history is incredible! The castles are so old!And so cool!I give it a 10!
The tower is meh, but the 360 view around it is amazing. You can see almost the entire city plus the north (Sausalito) and the East (Richmond and Oakland) and so much more.
Coit tower beautiful historicsite beautiful viewofthe city of San francisco
Must visit. When we visited there was this lift operator lady whod be the most fun person anyone could ever meet. The views from the top is awesome. Get a really good camera and a bottle of water.
Its not just a prominent landmark but a museum of 30 socialist realist art by several different artists lovingly preserved. The murals on the ground floor which anyone can walk in and see for free are wonderful. Some might think 9 bucks to take an elevator up a little steep but on a nice day which is often the case in San Francisco the views really are stunning. Only problem is because of Yahoos theyve had to put glass over the openings so youre looking through a window what would otherwise be is sounding swirling winds of the bay
One of the best places to visit in SF. You have a great view of the city, Bay Bridge, and Golden Gate Bridge if fog allows it. $9 for adults is totally worth it. Staff is super friendly, and nice. Specially the lady at the top who takes her own time to take pictures of the guests. The guy who drives the elevator is super nice too.
Only a true Sam Franciscan understand this tower as being a beacon and favorite hangout. Just miss the curving hillside to so much!
Great views of the city, but it was a little pricey for such an old attraction. the historical exhibits were good, but needed a little fleshing out.
A must visit while in SF. Beautiful landmark and beautiful views of the city. Be aware that there is almost no parking at the tower itself.
It was amazing! Nice calming place. It has spiral mural arts all around. I suggest going in the morning less crowd then at night see the light up. It is handicap accessible for wheelchair and blind.
6.45am we found ourselves up at the Coit Tower and although it was not open we were treated to the most spectacular views of the bay and the city.We started out this morning at 5.45am (still dark!!) but this has to be the best way to experience the city..... no tourists and no cars.Serious advice.... get up out of bed and get out there before everyone else and catch the sun rise.
Awesome views! We took a chance and drove up before leaving SF and were lucky to find a convenient parking spot. A wonderfully historic and interesting walk-about with breath-taking views on a beautiful day! The murals inside were cool and worth seeing. We did not stand in line for the elevator, but thoroughly enjoyed being there! Did not see any parrots.
$10 to get inside the tower .. Spectacular view of San Francisco !!Open up to 5pm .. One of the most beautiful destinations in the city .. Not to miss while in San Francisco !!
