Came out here for a corporate event and had a great time. Wasnt too crowded at the time but they were able to get us in 3 races within the time we allotted and our group really enjoyed ourselves. One recommendation would be to have a map of the track more visible so we can study it a bit beforehand. 5/5 would recommend
The roller coaster is soooo fun! It is one of my favorite roller coasters. It’s an older wooden one that doesn’t look very daunting at first. It is a little jarring and legit scary! I don’t recommend riding it if you have any injuries or don’t enjoy being tossed around. If you are really tall, (my brother is 6’4”) sometimes your knees will hit the front of the cart, but it’s still one of my brothers favorite activities when he’s had a bad day - and mine too.
This is one of the last old school wooden rails still operating. It’s a short ride, it’s Bucky, it’s not crazy wild, but it’s old and wiry and fun. Two thumbs up for the fun!
This was actually more fun than I was expecting. The boys enjoyed the old wooden coaster and then hit the rock wall before walking over to the beach. It was a fun afternoon.
Santa Cruz Giant Dipper is way better. Also, its overpriced for it not being all that.
Open late & for being right on the beach its always a good time!! At night is the best time to hit the rides!
The giant dipper is surprisingly fun for tame it seems when youre standing next to it. The kids love it, and we do too. Its also just a neat piece of history. Inside the ticket office they have one of the original cars on display. It has no seatbelts or restraints whatsoever! I asked if they were removed for the display and was told that is how the car originally was. Amazing.
The kids love this more than Sea World. We always buy our passes at Costco to get the discount. The Costco pass gets unlimited rides plus all the extras. Remember to wear close toe shoes.
Beautiful to watch all lights flashing and folks having. Agreat time
The lines are usually really short and the ride is really fun. I wouldnt consider it scary by any means but its still fun. I recommend you close your eyes on it to make it a little scarier.
Great piece of history. Also this thing is wayyyyy more intense than you would think. Love it
So much fun, always a great day for an outing with friends and family
Hurts my neck a little cause it jerks you up and down and you can fly up in your seat when it drops fast but its a roller coaster and you expect these things :) its worth it and fun
Closed...went to Chicken Charlies...
I give it 3 stars because of the fact that this roller coaster has been around since my parents were young and when i was young and Im in my late 40s now. It is a great ride but as far as i know its an OLD ROLLERCOASTER.
So much fun. A San Diego must go and do. This wooden coaster has a twin in santa Cruz. Great views from the top, right before you drop. Its a small coaster but it still scares little kids. Your butt will lift off the seat dont worry you wont fall out. Great fun experience, historical too.
I am my family spend last vacation in Giant dipper roller coaster. It was a wonderful days in my life. We spend their with fully of joy. Interaction towards customer is the most impressed feature of giant dipper. Have variety of rides and all are offering safety. Food and accommodation, neatness are beyond our expectation. Spent your valuable time here..
Clickety clack, itll take you back. This wooden behemoth boasts great scenery and is historically endearing, if youre into that. My 8 yr old son, the 10 yr old cousin and this middle aged man all had a blast. Lines were short and we got 2 runs in quickly. The attendant was very nice. This park and this attraction made our staycation more fun.
Such a fun place five star reveiw
Fun ride with a nice view from the top. If you’re a bigger guy like me the bar will be pretty tight! Your neighbor has to share the same bar too so it might feel a little loose for them
I am here now,my happy place, get there early,I stay in my camper for a couple days there, the mini wooden Rollie coaster is da bomb, something for everyone, a must go. yippieeeeeeeee
Awesome old school coaster.
Great ride for all ages in a very scenic location. Cost is reasonable, and the rest of the Balboa Park area is a nice place to hang out. Parking is a little tight, but usually able to find a spot, even when it is crowded.
The Giant Dipper, built in 1925, is an old school wooden coaster. Safety was not a big concern then like it is today. Im saying that it isnt safe. It is. Im saying it is a fast, rough, slightly scary ride. It doesnt go upside down or anything. But you will experience high Gs, weightlessness and sharp turns. There are two signs warning you to keep your arms inside. You can keep your hands in the air untill the second sign, then you are best to lower them, it gets really tight. If you are a coaster fan, this is one you dont want to miss!
Ive been a frequent flyer since birth and I always take family here when visiting. Well worth the $7
Fun ride, if youve never been to cedar point
Not so much scary, but worth trying it if you are here. I visited San Diego for a week and went to the Balmont park. The park is awesome and the roller coaster is decently thrilling.
I had a blast at this place and Im 27. The rollercoaster is really cool and cost $6 a person. I reccomend going at night because it is more thrilling. There are rides for little kids, a bunch of little shops and little places to get snacks and ice cream, ziplining, laser tag, and a pretty nice arcade. Its a perfect spot for a date in my opinion. A+
Love taking the kids here! Nice place for tourists too!
Good idea that you can pay only for one trip. Not necessary to buy an entry ticket for everything inside park, but only for these attractions which you wish to visit.
Ride is less than 1min but crazy good value for the $6 ticket! Real fun riding on an almost century-old attraction!
Classic wooden roller coaster. Rock n Roll!!
Looked like fun but I am too tall to fit in the cart and have the bar lock. They were very kind and refunded my money though. The kids that were there kept getting back in line for another ride.
94 years old and going strong. I loved it
Very disappointed that the coaster cars were changed. Now us big guys cant ride as the safety bar only fits petite people. Fit fine in the old cars. SMH
I always try to bring people who come from out of town here. The rickety wooden coaster does a great job of keeping thrill levels high. Wont find anything this exciting down the street at SeaWorld. Limited operations when its not summer season. Parking is sometimes hard to find during the summer months
Great thrill ride. Great view and affordable attraction $7.00.
Beautiful San Diego California, beautiful place to be beautiful people beautiful time beautiful life oh, yes yes yes.
We had a good time in the shops, lots to see and do, i miss the Wave house, we enjoyed watching it for years, please bring it back.
By far one of the best historic rollercoasters! Beautiful construction, lovely, clean boardwalk, and very reasonable prices
Lots of fun! Somewhat jerky...a classic old time roller coaster.
Amazing roller coaster(giant dipper)with a really wet beach and a fun time watching the surfers flipping out!!!Michelle,Paul,LiamHope you all a great day
I had an amazing time the Giant Dipper was for sure the best part! Plus its very chill and plus the ocean view is great!!!
Great little old school wooden roller coaster. Was a great topper to a fun evening with my group.
Great family adventure for a small price
Been riding this coaster for the last 8 years or more, cant truly remember but I always love riding it. This is a great piece of San Diego history open all the time and its a great spot to go, relax, ride some rides they have, and enjoy some time at the beach. Personally I like this roller coaster more than the one at the Santa Monica Pier, but thats just me haha.
Wow this roller coaster is AMAZBALLZ!!! Fun as hell turns and dips, hence the name ;) would visit again just for this ride!
A CLASSIC SEASIDE COASTER THAT YOULL NEVER FORGET!!I grew up looking at this coast as an eyesore in P.B. for the longest time. Thankfully it was saved from destruction by some fine local folks and brought back to glory.Although the ride can be a little harsh it is simply a thrill and will top off a great day at the beach!!
Pretty good coaster. Little rough but no more than to be expected from an older wooden coaster.
Always have a great time with my daughter. We love Belmont Park.
If you like roller coasters and fun this is awesome! The workers are also very friendly and make the experience even better.
Been riding this coaster since the mid 1960s. My mom screamed out her dentures on it even. Love this classic old coaster. Ride it then go for a swim at the Plunge. Great day.
Not open
Damien saved my favorite hat Damien is my guy
Great to watch, local legend. Im too chicken. Lol
Awesome piece of history, was happy to share the experience with my family.
Definitely a roller coaster to try old wooden coaster always the best!
This is the best ride that I have been on, I just get on and get off, and then repeat. Very smooth compared to *cough* Santa Cruz’s imposter *cough*. Worth six dollars a ride
Had a blast, reminding me of the wooden coaster at Lakeside Amusement Park in Denver, Colorado.
It looked like a fun rollercoaster but unfortunately I wasnt able to ride because of my size. This rollercoaster is not made for a 63 300 lbs man.
Not that good. It rattled my bones out of my body!
Great car show today
Good family time.
It was an adrenaline. You got to come out and try it for yourself
Awesome bartender! Burger so so
This ride is like a blast from the past!! So much fun
A must for any visitor, who doesnt have back problems, of the area. A little pricey but an icon of the area. Been around forever and hopefully always will be...
Classic coaster with great views of the ocean and Mission Beach. Its good fun, a little pricy but your only gonna ride it every now and then if your local
Fun thrill but also was rally afraid i was going to fly off this thing lol, didnt felt secure enough, wouldnt ride again, but at least i already did it lol, make sure when you first get in that the space between your body and the security bar is enough to make YOU feel safe, that was my mistake
Classic old school rollercoaster. I call it the Chiropractor. Hang and tight and good luck!
So much fun!
An icon of Belmont park, its a wooden roller coaster by the beach, and the highlight of amusement attractions.
Awesome place came for vacation had a great time
Kids had a blast. Only downside is everything is overpriced.
Was a GREAT ride!!!
A fun rollercoaster for all ages!
Its definitely harder that what it seems, but really fun!
Love this little amusement park!!
Super fun spot!
Classic wooden Rollercoaster. So much fun.
Could not convince the party to jump on the roller-coaster but it looked fun! Old, rickety, and squeaking as it made its every turn and drop! Good luck.
I had a blast.
Love this place! So much fun
Good ride for just 6 bucks
My child loves the coaster.
So much fun!
