Mountain Bikers paradise. Hiking trails as well. Beautiful views from the higher elevations. Theres a beautiful lake nestled in it. Its on private property but the owner has kept it accessible. I enjoy hiking there. Not good for kids less than 10 years old. You will find some horse poop along the trails since horsed go here. Sandstone base is visible near the lake. The path around the lake is not fully cleared so I would discourage trying to do full circle around the lake unless you are in a group. You will find stones stacked on top on each other by hikers - funny to see. Add your Stine without toppling the stack
Great place to mountain bike and hike. Watch out for bikes if you are hiking.
Theres a beautiful Canyon there called Deer Creek it has Trails through scrub Oak that are just beautiful and the whole area is threatened by development. Please enjoy the trails and do what you can to stop the encroachment
Wilderness in our own backyard!Hey, San Diegans! This land has a good network of biking/hiking trails, and its only 25 or 30 miles north of downtown San Diego, a straight shot up interstate 5. The trail called Tunnel Four is uniquely shaded by over-arching scrub oaks, much, much larger than the waist high scrub oaks found elsewhere, because these individual trees have not burned in ~100 years, theyre easily 15 to 20 feet tall! Its a very special trail, enjoy it!
Great everyday trail, not too technical but not boring
Outstanding place to go for a hike. Dont miss out on the tunnels!
The best place for cyclists in San Diego. This is the place where you can enjoy every moment. He who understands me will understand.
I dont like the dog unleashed
Wonderful hike! Didnt even know Del Mar Mess was tucked in the hills. I will be back to explore further.
A great local Montauk biking and hiking area, if only there was less restrictions
Hoping this new, nonsense commercial office park doesnt ruin this beautiful slice of nature.
Wonderful gem open space in coastal San Diego County.
Great place for Mountain Biking but a little hard to find the trail.
USED to be pretty awesome mountain biking, but a shadow of its former self since the enviro-nazis shut down about 70% of the trails. Had 5 tunnels total, some with stunts, now only one left. and most of the maze of trails on the mesa is gone.
Interesting Area. This spot seems very little known outside the Del Mar/ Carmel Valley communities, yet offers some of the most unique terrain in San Diego.Im primarily thinking of a series of tunnels that run through the preserves densely covered canyons. These tunnels are actually well groomed paths traversed by mountain bikers. The paths are so densely shrouded that one can find no trace of them when standing on the Mesa plateaus above. Also of note, are the Vernal Pools at the far East side of the preserve. These pools are very rare and the only ones that I am aware of outside of Miramar. Vernal Pools serve as incubating habitats for life after the rains and are almost entirely unique to the San Diego area. If you find them, as I did, please respect them by leaving them undistrubed.Justin.
