I absolutely love this spot so much! It’s a hidden gem in the vast networks of gardens and plazas within the entirety of Balboa Park. I’m a landscape architect and such a nerd for landscapes so I did some research on this garden. Here’s some history on Alcazar Garden. It was named because its design is patterned after the gardens of Alcazar Castle in Seville, Spain, lies adjacent to the Art Institute and Mingei Museum. It is known for its ornate fountains, exquisite turquoise blue, yellow, and green Moorish tiles and shady pergola. This formal garden, bordered by boxwood hedges, is planted with 7,000 annuals for a vibrant display of color throughout the year. The garden has been reconstructed to replicate the 1935 design by San Diego architect Richard Requa.I also recommend coming here at night as there is phenomenal landscape lighting setting the mood and the vibe for a mystical evening experience.

My first time here, and I really like it. The place isnt that big, but its nice. I can defiantly come back and enjoy just sitting under a tree. They do have some nice areas, but Id really like to come in the fall when all the colors come out.Oh, and I missed the Cherry Blossom Festival...disappointed.

I entered here accidentally and was attracted by various flowers here. There are many varieties of flowers from roses, cherry to many unknown names. There is also a small fountain. The whole garden us surrounded by walls and building so I think it’s private garden in the beginning. A nice place to go

One of the quiet and more secluded places in Balboa Park. Perfect for meditation in the morning, lunch on a bench later, a portrait photo session in the soft afternoon light as the sun hides behind the trees or a whispered conversation by the side of a moonlit fountain. Its beautiful to visit different times of the year too, as the flowers change seasonally. Yes, its one of those magical places!

A cute little garden between two buildings. It is very pretty, but Im not fond of the boxwood hedges. Also, while very open, the paths are narrow making it difficult to social distance.

The garden is calm and there wasn’t as many people as in other parts of the park. The garden could have been more full in my opinion but it was still really nice to relax in. There are several benches located throughout the gardens so you can enjoy the air and views.

Beautiful place to learn about San Diegos unique history. Each plant has name posts so youll know what plant youre looking at if youre taking a botany course,. want to get into gardening, or are purely curious like myself. Its a great place to stop and relax if youre feeling like taking a break too. Its usually quiet, peaceful, and relatively calm.

Oooh, this little section of Balboa Park is simply gorgeous. Its a little off to the side from the main area but tends to be a little more peaceful and quiet as not to many people stray from the main path at Balboa. Its a little garden that you can walk around in and it has plenty of benches to sit down and relax and admire your surroundings. Its also a fun little place to people watch and see the best of the best of San Diego walk by (sarcasm, you wont believe how many wierdos youre surrounded by).Theres also a ton of Pokestops in this area.
