My favorite spot for tasty mexican food. I had a cousin come into town and asked me to take him back here. The bill was appropriate for the quality.
A preferred place for tasty mexican food. super place to meet and chat with coworkers. staff treated us so kindly. this place has a good atmosphere.
Came here on a Friday Night. We had dinner reservations which was perfect since we had a large party. We were a little disappointed because our table was seated before another party and they split us with 2 separate tables. When we asked to put the tables together like the other party did we were told we couldnt because its a fire hazard. I get it but why didnt they seat us at the other table that was together. Again, they were seated after us.Service was ok as our server was very busy so it was hard to find her. I dont blame her. Its crazy in there.Food:Carne Asada friesComplimentary ChipsShrimp CevicheGosh, the chips were served in a small and I mean extra small bowl. We asked for refills multiple times. The carne asada fries was blah. Small servings. Lastly, the shrimp ceviche was also meh... i took a few bites and was disappointed. I offered it to others because it was not good. They need to cut the shrimp smaller too.So, this restaurant turns into a club like atmosphere with a lot of young adults. I seriously think they maxed- out the capacity and some and that to me is a fire hazard. Theres a very long line outside so be patient if you wanna get in.While having dinner on the patio, you will hear airplanes flying over. It gets loud so we all stopped talking for that 3 seconds.I need to return when its not a club night. I really want to enjoy the food as Ive heard good things.
Good amount of security. Bartender was busy with full house but did get me my drinks in time and drinks were great, went home happy. Love that theres sitting on the wall for everyone. Tight dance space thats my con.
So chill. A great place to relax and catch up with friends. Good music but the television channel so kinda weird.
Great happy hour food and drink specials! the rajas taco is amazing and has corn and mushroom. I also really enjoyed the shrimp tacos. we got a few pitchers of the margaritas for the table for a good deal. all around yummy! good place for karaoke as well if youre into that. very cool ambience with a disco ball and everything
Cool place and good food. Sitting out on the patio as the planes came literally feet above was a unique and cool experience. Not sure what to think of all the Catholic imagery everywhere, particularly replacing Jesus and Marys likeness with Elvis and Taylor. Felt quite disrespectful, particularly using those images in the bathroom.
Great tasting burritos and enchiladas! And a decent size too. The margaritas I thought were a bit small for $11; Ill have to try the fishbowl for a few bucks more. Hoping next time the patio will be open to plane spot while sipping that fishbowl.
Always a good time! Mexican themed bar with a cool patio. The planes that are landing at the San Diego int Airport fly right over it really close, it looks so cool.
Interesting vibe, and really good service. The food is okay - not the usual fare, but not totally crazy. The mole fries are delicious, and everything is good, but not outstanding. Drinks are yummy, with a good selection. As with everything in the area parking sucks, but once there its a welcoming and neat place to get food and drinks.
We went there to celebrate a friend leaving. He had a blast. Good friends, good drinks, good music. It was very crowded very loud very good
I will lead off with the decor is great and the food was fine, but rather expensive for what you got.Restaurant called and asked if I wanted inside or outside. I said outside. On arrival, we were seated inside. Asked to be moved outside per our request. That must have been a mistake because the service was a zero from that moment on. Told we had to be done by 9 (it was 7). Pacing was way off. We felt very rushed by server to order drinks right away with no chance to really look things over. Same with food. Appetizer came out with meal, not before. Not asked it wed like a second round of drinks, but only if we were ready to leave. So we said, yes, indeed, we were indeed ready to leave. After getting a of course you are look from the server, we left without even finishing our first round of drinks--thats how fast the food came--or our food. You might blame this on them needing the table in another 90 minutes, but that did not stop them from seating another party (of three) at the other end of the six-top, so I dont think that was it.We felt like they wanted to get rid of us, so we obliged--not a great business model. We were there only about 35 minutes from start to finish. Hardly a nice evening out.
Super cute place. I have come here twice now for cocktails after dinner, and I have yet to try the food. My rating is for the service I received. Our hostess, our waiter, and the bartenders were all so nice and accommodating despite the Friday night madnesses. The service really stood out for me.
Crafty Modern Mexican SpotThe design and drinks are great! Walk in and youll be in awe.Ill be honest though...design and your experience is what your paying for here. Probably the most expensive Mexican food spot to eat at in San Diego. BUT definitely the most memorable!
Not only was this place incredible aesthetically, but the food was amazing too! An absolute must eat in San Diego if you like Mexican! It was genuinely THE BEST!
The food was great .. ambiance was great.. just give me more options than Blk beans
I was in town for the weekend found this place on Google and saw it was a perfect 5 stars so I had to give it a try. This restaurant did not disappoint. We started with the trio dip. All of the dips were delicious but the queso stole the show. Why? Melted w mushrooms on a little skillet w a nice kick of jalapeños and spices. Alongside came w the softest corn tortillas ever. Tasted like JUST MADE.
Dont remember much, lol. The strawberry margaritas were excellent though, Id o remember that much. Dark ambiance inside.
Fantastic experience and equally great food. The fish tacos were actual pieces of fish and not a fish stick. Veggies are very fresh and the staff is welcoming and happy to be serving you. Im only staying for a week and made sure to get there twice. There is a protected outside patio that made it even more fun. Prices are moderate and appropriate. I can easily and highly recommend El Caminos!
The atmosphere was great our waiter and waitress were good especially since there was a large group of us. Only issue I had was they wanted a card although I was paying cash. That wasnt a problem, but my card was charged for someone elses order. It was corrected before I left. That was the reason I didnt use my card to begin with. I had the sopa de fidel. It was delicious.
First time here on a recommendation. We had a blast, good atmosphere, good dj spinning fun music and a great crowd. Will definitely return.
El Camino is a great place to grab a meal. They have many delectable foods, like tortillas, tacos, enchiladas, and combinations. The staff members are extremely friendly and got us whatever we needed. They also have live music! This restaurant is family friendly and perfect for any occasion.
I went with my Fiance and friends the restaurant has a cool warm atmosphere vibe. The service was great and the drinks were good, the food is ok but overall we enjoyed ourselves there.
Great atmosphere and bartenders. Drinks, food, and chip dip are fabulous!
Place is fun and has a nice vibe they also have a open air bar in the back good for people who smoke. Djs have been good everytime I have went.
Drinks are great! Ambiance is great...but, right in the path of landing airplanes. If you sit outside, expect to hear them overheard about every 3-5 minutes. Servers are nice and attentive. Food is so-so, but their chipotle dip for the tortilla chips is great!
We ordered the taquitos and it was 2 taquitos cut in half for $13. The sangria was $40 a pitcher and mostly juice. Plus 4% surcharge. Buyer beware!
Good food a nice seating area and good music make a great mix.
Great place to dance or have some cuisine mexican food. Highly recommended!!!
Cool spot. Love the interior decorating. Came for Sunday funday and it did not disappoint. Good service.
Cool Spot to hang out and chill!! They play 90s ....
The food is great and they are very well known for their tapas or appetizers that are authentic... The atmosphere is great.. if Quentin Tarantino owned a bar in San Diego this is what it would look like. The bathroom is done in real graffiti from old School Chicanos in San Diego. Classy and authentic. The outdoor patio thats still very much connected to everything else that you can still smoke...and view the commercial jet airliners landeding approaches right over your head. Its one of my favorite restaurant bars in San Diego. its a great place to take someone who hasnt been to San Diego to while right after you pick him up from the airport and want to chat with drinks and great food.
Ive been going here for years, cool hipster mexican spot with fun art and a patio that gets you closer to airplanes than an actual airport. Only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because the nachos used to be huge and are now half the size (still delicious) and they stopped serving the salsa flight with their chips
Food was alright, salsa is definitely spicy! but it is a great spot for plane watching!!
Nice vibes, good music. I have only been here at night so I can’t review the evening restaurant aspect but it’s an overall great spot. Each visit has consistently been a great experience. The only downside is the layout is not designed to accommodate a large crowd for dancing. Overall I recommend the spot
Mexican food, so good. Atmosphere is similar to a cafe in San Jose I loved.
Planes flying over and sipping the tequila with the 90s music dancing and the good good time, everyone is having a good good time.
Great place for a night out! Dont be too scared though as it has an open roof and it is pretty close by SAN airport. There will be screeching as the planes fly over and land! But that is all apart of the allure.Quesadillas were fine.
I went to this spot on a Tuesday night for Karaoke. For being a mexican spot in San Diego, I would expect it to have more Spanish songs, at least some of the popular ones. All they had were pop songs from 10 years ago and earlier. The ambience was cool. The DJ and the staff were nice. I would return again when in town.
The DJs at this spot really knew how to throw down. Had such a great time.
Really great place for drinks! Awesome atmosphere, good customer service
Mainly a bar. The food was good. The wait staff seemed annoyed about actually surviving and seemed bothered when asked to help assist with questions.
Nice place, awesome music, atmosphere, but the margaritas and cocktails werent so good.
Super fun place to spend a Sunday afternoon. Great food, music and people.
Be sure to see the restroom, beautiful!
Had a great chicken burrito which was delicious and fast. Outdoor seating was the place to be.
Drinks amazing, food not so much
Atmosphere is not your typical Mexican decor but food was very good. Suggested tip on receipt started at 20% and went up to 30. Very pretentious to suggest a 20% tip.
Mexican food, quality stuff. I love this place, excellent food & service. It has a nice atmosphere.
Gotta be honest, the music was great but the drink I ordered was bad I couldnt finish it sad to say. It didnt taste good, I ordered a margarita and it tasted like nothing but alcohol and water basically. I will not be returning back to spend much money where the drinks arent done well.
Great environment and old school music!
Awesome bar, chill atmosphere
Cool spot, decorated to the max. Food was good. Its your typical mexican food with a little twist in flavors. Definitely coming for a drink next time Im in San Diego
Great service great atmosphere, food was fun
Food is delicious and theres something for everyone here, nothing too heavy on the stomach. Drinks are well served. I love their decor of the place but the lights are very low. Service was excellent, except for a bipolar server at times. The manager is an excellent host and made us feel very welcomed.
Delicious great happy hour
Good atmosphere, good food and drinks
For great cocktails, chill beats, and amazing food go to El Camino. Also, the staff are extremely helpful. Come here with some time to kill, sit at the bar and watch some throwback music videos, cartoons, and odd movies.
I love this place! It has it all for a good time & meal! Beer, cocktails, great food, live entertainment, outdoor patio, ambience, hip decor, friendly staff! I love to go there on Taco Tuesday because the taco plates are half off with rice & beans, chips are yummy with different kinds of salsa selections, not just One! Definitely a must go with family, friends or a date! Just so you know, on busy nights, it gets pretty loud in there. Its has a fun & lively atmosphere!
LOVED THE PLACE. Watch out for hologram Jesus!
LOVE THIS PLACE. Always a must whenever in San Diego. Great food and great drinks. I love their patio also. Great to watch the planes.
Always a fun time
What does it mean to exist? What assurances do any of us have that we truly do exist? If people around you stopped acknowledging your presence, would it cause you to question your own existence? Such are the questions you begin to ask yourself while waiting for someone, ANYONE, who works on the staff of El Camino Super Cocina Mexicana to greet you. Perhaps youre wondering where Im going with this review. Tell us if the food was good and were the drinks cheap and strong! I really wish I could comment on those aspects, but in this review, I will not because I was never able to experience anything more than the water and complimentary chips and salsa. Either through some weird glitch in the fabric of space time or just due to lousy service, our existence was never acknowledged by the staff, save for the one sweet angel who caused the chips and yummy salsas to materialize before. It may occur to you to ask yourself, as you read this, Was the restaurant open? Were they extraordinarily busy and you were perhaps being too impatient? As much as I care to shoulder some responsibility here, I cannot. We were just a party of 2 on a Sunday afternoon and it was mostly empty inside the establishment. We witnessed staff calmly pacing the restaurant floor as the minutes ticked by and the hunger in our bellies grew from slight rumbles to roaring growls. As our wait grew, I began to notice the existential crisis illuminating inside me and it wasnt until we left (without ever being presented with an opportunity to place any kind of order) and were greeted by the friendly staff at a neighboring restaurant that the crisis ended. Indeed, I exist. But if this is representative of the typical customer experience at El Camino, I cant imagine this establishment continuing to do so for much longer.
Love this place. It has an extensive menu and great dancing at night. The DJ plays a great mix of music.
Trendy and popular place. Margaritas and tacos on specials on Tuesday, and random other daily specials. Very interesting crowd. Blankets and heaters on the patio for when it gets cold. Cool artwork on the side of the building
Mexican food... very tasty. Went there on a Saturday.
I loved this spot.. No complaints. I will be back! Went for Taco Tuesday. Three street tacos rice and beans - about 7-8 bucks. We ordered margs saw planes fly, people watched, and lived our best lives. The host was chill and the waitress was on her job. I will take any visitors to this spot to look like a cool local for sure.
Love this place. Very chill mid-week...
I hate to write this because Ive been to this place before and had great experiences and was looking forward to another fun night, but it was not to be... Not sure if the place is under new management or if the staff just doesnt care about service anymore. In any event, it was probably a perfect environment if another restaurant wants to visit and learn what not to do and how not to treat customers. I was with a group of friends for a birthday, and the poor service was so deplorable, it became entertaining. The server was extremely rude and kept getting orders wrong... Im not the type of person to fuss but I personally had to return my entree twice and it was finally correct the 3rd time. The first time, it was an order form another table, second time, I got double black beans, when I said no black beans, rice and corn. When I finally got the enchiladas suizas they were good. I also had to walk to the bar twice to get my own drink because the waitress was oblivious and never took my drink order.
Menu was a little barren and the music was a bit too loud making it hard to hear your friends talking. It also didnt help that airplanes were flying over the outdoor seating area every few minutes. The ambient lighting was nice, the chips and salsa was fantastic, and the portion sizes large. My order was good, cant complain about the food. Making a reservation is highly recommended.
Really fun and funky vibe. Nice outdoor space with air hokey and other games. Has a club vibe at times but not always. Great food and friendly service. They bring a delicious selection of salsas/dips out with the chips!
Food was okay, nothing special. I had their chicken quesadilla for happy hour. I also ordered the Mexican Mule, the used probably the most bottom shelf Tequila you could have found, it was undrinkable. The vibe is cool but there are better places in the area.
Music was way too loud to the point where it was hard to have a conversation with my friends.
Great atmosphere. Staff was very friendly. Only had drinks but will definitely go back to try the food.
Because of the flight path, youll have to praise weekday youre saying every few minutes.
This is a fun place for groups, especially if you get their punch bowl size cocktails! I havent had an actual meal here, only snacks, but the chips and guacamole are very good. We had some extra salsa options brought to us but I didnt really care for any of the three.Bathrooms layout could be a bit better, hard to tell how many people are inside of them. Also, this isnt the kind of place that needs a bathroom attendant, something I always find odd, but sure enough theyre there.
Music was great. My drinks were too sweet. I had a margarita. Ambiance is great.
Food was amazing, service was great!!!
Good food, good drinks
El Camino is a taco Tuesday gem. I randomly chose this place from a list of taco Tuesday places, and my roommate and I LOVED it. Great taco Tuesday/happy hour deals, and mostly, GREAT ambiance and GREAT cheese dip. Its decorated in a lively and fun manner, and has a super lively outdoor area, which is where I recommend eating. As the night goes on they open up karaoke which is always fun, but if youre not into listening to people trying to sing then for sure opt for outside seating, or just go earlier in the evening, before 8:30. Great place, never been other than Tuesdays but Im sure its great all the time.
Love this place!!!! Great vibes, always the best classic music and greeeeeat food
Love this place, love the decor (reminds me of the Mexican themed level in Little Big Planet) only thing I dont like is the bathroom attendant, that stuff still trips me out. I can pump my own soap and get my own paper towels. Otherwise, dope place.
Never, ever go on a cold night. You might get seated on the patio. The title of the Los Sides section on the menu looked like cultural appropriation. The $15 salad filled me up.
There arent any real vegan options, what I was able to have was very tasty (I had a black bean burrito with soyrizo), but my spouse was not too impressed with the fish tacos. The drinks are pretty tasty though, but this isnt the cheapest place to get a bite to eat.
Cool place! Sit on the patio and check out the planes flying over super close (maybe not the best for conversation during busy airport times). Good drinks, delish food, and good happy hour specials!
Good food good music
Enjoying a cocktail while watching planes soar 50ft above you is BOSS!!!
Small and crowded, why ifs there a cover fee when its not a club club
Awful service. Left restaurant very dissatisfied. Servers ignore you. Don’t come here
Cool place, but easy overpriced for what the offer.
Something special happens here as a lively atmosphere mixes with comforting Mexican food. With the place drawing a crowd, we had to share a communal table which I didnt mind. We sat outside on the patio enjoying Taco Tuesdays and special priced margarita and sangria. We split the pork and fish tacos. The pineapple in the pork tacos was a nice touch to meld the flavors with something sweet. The fish tacos could have used more of a creamy sauce of some sort.
Atmosphere is really nice, but the service was horrible. We were there for taco Tuesday, if I had to pay full price for the small tacos with very little meat on it, I would have been very upset.
