Searched for a new place to check out downtown for brunch yesterday and remembered The Owl Drug Co was on my must try list. The three of us arrived about 2ish and grabbed seats at the community table. Our server, Johnny, brought us two menus: the brunch menu and the standard menu. The brunch menu was available until 2:30 pm and the standard was available from 2:30 pm and on.Loved the layout of the joint and the atmosphere. Definitely reminded me of an old style bar with the copper rails and all of the woodwork. We all opted to wait until 2:30 to order from the standard menu. Of course we started with a few beverages. I ordered the lemon basil mimosa and the boys ordered the blueberry mint mimosa. We were ravenous so quite a bit was ordered: short rib fries, mac & cheese, french dip, classic grilled cheese, and chicken parmesan. All of the sammies came with fries, too. The boys devoured their sammies. Me the slow eater I am savoured each bite. My own small complaint: I wanted my chicken parm to be much more ooey-gooey; I wanted that baked super cheesy covered in sauce, thousand calorie sandwich I had in mind when I ordered it.Johnny was a great server! Had the best recommendations for our big appetites and even bigger stomachs.TODC is definitely going to be a regular spot for us!
My girlfriend and I went here to celebrate her birthday. The Owl Drug Company has a beautiful interior. It is open and spacious. We started the night off with a couple drinks. She got a pick your poison drink which is essentially a shot of whatever the bartender wants to give you. I got the drink Owl by Myself which is sparkling rose wine with blueberry lime syrup and strawberries. It was delicious. After drinks some appetizers were in order, so we ordered the blue cheese chips and fried pickles. Both were excellent especially the fried pickles. I also ordered some more drinks. This time I ordered Owl Night Long which is gin, fresh kiwi, lemon, passion fruit, and a mist of absinthe. It was a good flavored drink but I thought there was too much foamed topping. After that drink, we decided to get a pizza specifically the Gotta Have My Meat. It has pepperoni, fennel sausage, bacon, marinara, and fontina cheese. It was delicious and I would recommend it.Finally, I decided to get a dessert drink and I noticed they had a drink called the Hedwig. This drink had Screwball whiskey which is peanut butter flavored and I have wanted to try it since I heard of it. The drink was delicious and the peanut butter whiskey was not overpowering. It had a nice subtle flavor. I would get the drink again.Overall, this place is a great place with a nice atmosphere and good staff. I would recommend this place to anybody looking for a good night out or even breakfast as they server breakfast all day.
The service here is great. The place has a nice feel to it.
Gave it 3 chances, and each time the entire place was empty. Bartenders less than interested in any conversation or being accessible (I can’t blame them, it’s hard to get a groove when there’s nothing to do), which is a shame because the food was pretty good. Sorry Owl, I can’t get behind you even if you just go by The Owl now.
Great atmosphere, bar staff, and beer selections. We were on vacation and had a few hours before heading home and I found this place nearby Gaslamp and glad I did. Our bartender was helpful and let us sample til we found our liking. I believe my boyfriend got the Unicorn and I had Dr.Skye. both very tasty and full of flavor which we couldnt find at a few nearby places. Definitely recommend. We didnt get food but the pizzas looked and smelled amazing.
Patty was the only decent staff there.. Nobody else was as prompt and happy to help! I love her.. This was my first time here, shes the only reason i MIGHT come back.....sadly
DO NOT support this establishment! I usually dont write reviews, but be careful if you go to this club. I reserved a table to celebrate my niece 21st birthday and sad to say, it turned out to be a DISASTER! We got to the establishment and stood in line for 30 minutes prior to getting checked in for a private table. We were escorted to the table and after sitting there for an hour, we were told we had to move because the owner’s friend wanted the table we were sitting at. Although we declined moving because my money spends the same, we were told that we move or be escorted out the club. Okay so because I don’t want to ruin the night for my niece, I agree to move. End of the night come and as I am checking out with the host, the check is inaccurate and I was charged for alcohol that I didn’t receive. Fast forward the host explain in great detail that I will receive my refund and I was provided with the receipts. After contacting my bank, I am informed that I have to dispute the charges because the club charged me 3 different times for the same table. After calling the club I was told that nothing can be done regarding the charges and that I must wait to the weekend to speak with a manager or the owner. If you still decide to support this establishment, please review all charges and dont get duped!
This place is a hot mess. It was right across the street from our hotel so we thought we would give it a try based on the menu and website information. All we wanted was a pizza but they said they had flatbreads and only had pizza available for brunch. Ended up being a round flatbread that looked alot like a pizza. Decent pizza so it turned out okay. We also wanted a bottle of wine but it gets interesting here. Not only could they tell me if they sold wine by the bottle but they could not tell me what kind they had. I once again referred to the menu online but was told that the website was wrong. At this point we were leaving but they ended up giving us a price for a bottle of wine and giving us the wine. When it came time to pay for our meal, I was told my credit card was declined and was given that look like you are trying to do get by with something. I asked to see the reason why it was declined and it clearly stated network error meaning it was not my card. I pointed this out and they said they had to check on it. I needed up paying cash. I would avoid this establishment.
Went for happy hour. Long island iced tea was a bit on the sweet side not strong, but was good to sip on. Ate patatas bravas that were delicious.
Place is nice and music is great but there is no real seating area for people who arent VIP. I cant dress in heels like Id like to if I have to be prepared to stand for the next 2 hours. I also got overcharged by a bartender for a glass of wine. I paid $8 for a glass of Rose from one bartender and when I went back for another the lady was rude and charged me $15 for it and didnt want to answer any of my questions. Also the drinks dont come in actual glasses, not even the plastic clear cups you might keep in your kitchen that are dishwasher safe. they come in drugstore plastic cups or something you might find at a party.
Great beer selection. The beer is brewed in house. They have a new Mule hand crafted cocktail menu thats really good. I like to go on Taco Tuesday because they hand make the tortillas and theyre only $3. The fish and carnitas are my favorite. Lots of tvs to watch games too.
Great food. Fun spot to watch the fights and games
My friends at Paving Great Futures chose this for their after grad party. We were treated very well!
Good atmosphere and the flight of beer I had was great. However, the service is extremely lacking. Had to pull teeth to get the server to tell me what came in a flight, and my dish came 15 minutes after the rest of the party at my table (this is a time when the overall place was only at ~20% capacity). There’s so many good places in the surrounding area that I wouldn’t bother coming back.
Food was great, service was... confusing. A sign near the entrance instructed folks to seat themselves but the servers that seemed plentiful were not very attentive (til the check was requested and their payment was waiting). I could see servers and bartenders and other staff snacking, prepping for dinner service, and maybe on break at the end of the bar when I needed them; again, very helpful when asked for the check and never impolite, just not particularly helpful. Also, if you order bottomless mimosas for brunch youll need to ask for your own refills, dont wait til the cut off or for them to follow up. Apparently you can order for your table at the bar but the back and forth did not make for a great experience.
This place was an unexpected surprise. Came after the Padres game to avoid traffic. But it was so good that I had to make this my 1st review. Its not bad food, its definitely much better. My wife has the pizza and it was the best we had in San Diego. But the pastrami sandwich is the best Ive had in SoCal for sure! I had to tell the manager that Im very picky with my pastrami and it was incredible. We stuck around to watch karaoke. That was fun. This place is here to stay! Well be back for sure and tell all our friends.
This place is horrible! We reserved a table but after being there for an hour was told we needed to switch tables w/another group because they were “NFL players”, friends w/the owner & wanted our table! This was non-negotiable. Then when the night was over, they tried overcharging by adding the more expensive bottles to our tab & has charged the card on file twice!!! The overall experience was horrible, I suggest you spend your money someplace else!
The manger did not know how to welcome his customers. At the door i was told that they had specials to come in for taco tuesday, the manger asked if we wanted drinks i asked for the specials and he said there was none. Later on i foubd out they had a flyer with all the specials they had for the night. Plus the bar was basically dead. Never again
My chicken and waffles came out cold. I didnt say anything because I was starving and it was still a decent meal. The servers were really nice and they have game nights and entertainment, so we will probably be back anyway.
Brought a group of friends for their first time. Food and atmosphere is amazing. Just a step off the strip but so worth it. Had a great cocktail too.
***Beer was excellent*** / Food was inedible ...We are from out of town and really enjoyed a few of the in-house brews for lunch- Shimmy was awesome. We started with the short rib sliders, and stopped with that. Meat had no memorable flavor, watery coleslaw on bun, and chips tasted like they may have been fried last week. I’d come back for a few beers for sure !!!
Very nice bar with a very hip look and menu. The food was good and very reasonably priced and the drinks were fantastic. Staff seemed a little behind, but were very nice. We went with a large group and at some point the bar put on the UFC fight. It was very loud and we couldnt hear each other over the TV. It wasnt very busy so we asked if they could turn it down. Instead they turned it up. It was headache-inducingly loud. Didnt enjoy my experience, but maybe its better when the fights arent on.
Great atmosphere. Place was busy for a womans world cup soccer match so our orders took really long. Food came out good especially my impossible Burger.
The Bell Marker makes the beer still, but the food is now The Owl Drug Co. I have only tried a small offering of the new food, but they are making pizzas again which is good. Their beer is the same and pretty good. All in all they are a decent spot and I wish both entities succes.
It was a decent meal but just go for the drinks.
Im not sure the club is ready for what they advertise. Me and 2 friends paid to see Twista and he never even came out. Not sure what we paid for. The DJ was okay.....
I really hate giving bad reviews but this place was really not that great. I went on Wednesday, a day advertised as bingo night. We asked our waiter if there was going to be bingo tonight and he said he thought there should be. Fast forward an hour and there is no bingo and we have waited thirty minutes to get our check brought to us. I understand this is a new location but the place was a quarter full and just seemed understaffed and overwhelmed. The house beer I had was good and the menu seemed incredible so maybe it was just a rough night. I would want to come back to do their bottomless mimosas/beer/karaoke on Sunday but honestly dont know if its worth it to go to a place that doesnt fulfill the events they advertise.
The food was decent, but they told us we couldnt order from the full cocktail menu because they had a private party coming in later and they had to save, the good stuff for that. Bar manager: plan ahead and dont short change your walk-in customers because youre afraid to run out of booze.
Fun and convivial environment for all to enjoy.Sit at a communal table and meet new people
The best experience in San Diego for everything social outings, food, night life, sporting events, this is where the regular person is able to interact with celebrities.
Food was really good, but it was really warm inside. Also, outside they advertised a lunch special but when I asked about it once seated they told be they didnt offer that any longer.
Great place good drinks loved the atmosphere
Loved it ukeim is the resident DJ there now.. Go relax and eat tacos on Tues..
This place has good intentions but is not yet ready for the big leagues. We went for the bottomless brunch advertised in the window. It was fairly busy on a Sunday at noon - my boyfriend joked we should sit at the bar so we wont be forgotten - what foreshadowing. The main server appeared overwhelmed by a large party and he also seemed to be one of the only servers working. After sitting about 10 minutes, he finally came over. We ordered mimosas and our food too - we really werent sure when wed see him again. Another 10 minutes goes by. We decide if our drinks dont come in the next five, were out. He finally returns - with champagne. He says the juice is coming (??) We sont the rest of our meal hounding him for juice. At least we had drinks now. We quickly downed the bottle, I mean it is bottomless after all. Ready for another bottle if only we could get his attention. In the meantime, someone else plops down my breakfast and scurries away. Great -- except what about my boyfriends food? I pick at it, wanting to wait. 15 minutes go by and we are finally able to tell the server what happened. He is so sorry but they gave that dish to a different table. They will hurry and make another one. Unreal.Three bottles later and we both finally get to eat. Thank god for Paige, the hardest working server in the place. Of course the meal was compd but does it really matter? Well never go there again.
Shout out to Vard and Ase Entertainment and the great food and drinks!!
ODC is a great spot whether you are looking for a mellow weekday happy hour, a place to catch the big game, or a wild weekend night on the town. The food is so good! All of their pizzas are great, but the short rib pizza is on another level of delicious. I’m also a huge fan of the caesar salad. They have a huge selection of beers, most of which are brewed in house, as well as a bunch of cleverly named cocktails. It’s a nice big space where you and ALL of your friends can get together. I love that it’s a family-owned business. The owner and staff are so kind and make sure that you are having the best time possible. I highly recommend going on a karaoke night, such a blast! This place is awesome. Go check it out.
From the vibe, to service to the food- I’m obsessed! Great spot and lots of events going on every night of the week!
Its was great food and chill bar.
The bartender only came up to us once and we were sitting at the bar. I would have liked to have drank more but I guess this bar doesn’t care about business. We couldn’t even get her attention she ignored us all night then charged us inappropriately. It’s a major skip for me
Didnt eat so I cant comment on the menu. Tap list wasnt deep but I did enjoy their collab with Resident Brewing House Arrest. A very tasty beer. It went down well.
Amazing Venue in the Heart of Downtown San Deigo.Intimate and chic.
This place was ghost town except for bar crowd when we arrived. It smelled like a bar covering up something nasty. Dont know about the food because we left and went elsewhere.
Very thoughtful staff. Fun super fun events.
Pretty good burger but the fries were STUPID salty. I literally had to rub them between my fingers to get the bulk of the seasoning off.
The vibe for this new Latin night on a Tuesday is definitely there!
The food was great, but I came for the karaoke aaaaaaand they cut it early for no reason. Pass.
Loved it! Very tasty food, attentive staff, good choice of beers, brewed in-house or guest, all on tap.
Went to Owl Drug to watch El Classico expecting a lazy early Saturday crowd and was surprised by how fun and lit up it was. Food was great. Service was on top of it even with a pretty big crowd. Had crab toast, chilaquiles, and a lot of beer. Were there for hours. No clue how many.
Big gastropub at least serving a selection of lunch and self brewed beer, where I went for the impossible burger, a spicy Bloody Mary and bottomless mimosas. Cant go wrong with that!
Food was delish, especially the hedwig cocktail. One star down because the music was super loud when the restaurant was relatively empty.
Loved this place when it was owned by the beer co. Its trash now
Great food.awsome vibe/music
If you are the ultimate Barça fan you will love this place. Especially on game day no matter how early the game is....... This was true when I wrote this 8 months ago. Barça bar part is no longer true, they have relocated to a bar nearby, Serranos, one block south.
Service was cool, the ambience was really chill. Pizza is awesome, wings are a little dry.
They serve the Impossible Burger, and it is delicious! Nice place with good beer and atmosphere.
Great food and atmosphere! Stopped in for dinner while traveling and will definately be back!!
Fantastic beer, kicked up pub fair, fun setting and great location.
Great beer kicked up bar food, fun atmosphere.
Cant believe, that on a Saturday night, we are expecting to spend a minimum of $25 per person without ever seeing the menu. There were four of us. When we saw the menu, it was basically bar food at 7:30pm. Really? $100 on bar food will send you to the hospital. Lame.
I ate a nice pizza here with friends. Bar staff were friendly and eager to serve.
Food is good, but the bottomless mimosas are even better!
Great staff, great food, reasonably priced. Would go back again.
Loved the impossible burger and cider combo, the garlic bread are to die for!!!
Nice vibe and good music!
Clean, upscale, great vibe
Good luck with your new venture :)
Good deals for happy hour, but they seem understaffed. Expect a wait.
Great service and well priced
Amazing craft cocktails
Good food and good atmosphere.
Watch all the barcelona fc games there !
Loved the vibe and space to mingle
Interesting place. Ask for off menu beers.
Best servers/bartenders/staff in the entire world!!
Great beer. Friendly bartenders.
Cursed corner, but the staff seems to always be sub-par regardless of the name. Needs a new concept and not another bar.
Omggggg the buffalo wings!! Secret family recipe. They’re to die for
Best place in San Diego.
Very good food!
Havent been away from the place
Make sure to go during busy hours
Best karaoke ever...
Good food
Was ok
Football and Food.
Solid gold place!!!
