Beautiful views of Point Loma and boats moored in the bay, a nice interior space for casual dining and drinking, and photos of historic musicians and bands lining the walls make this a great venue. The downside is the small stage and dance floor at one small end and the majority of seating in the back of the space (imagine a Y-shaped space, band at bottom). If youre at the back, you probably wont see much. The acoustics are fairly decent (a far cry better than, say, the House of Blues [concrete bunker reverberation chamber]) and the lighting adds some nice atmosphere. The food and drink are pretty darn good, reasonably priced, and the staff are attentive and professional. Great for small groups and couples.
I am usually not into modern or chic types of establishments. Give this mountain girl a lounge or speakeasy bar any of the day of the week..usually. However, Humphreys Backstage Live on Saturday night treated me very, very well.
Really good sound.. mix was awesome. Not enough staff. Waited over and over for service. Closes down super abruptly. Band stopped just before 11. We had finally gotten another drink and. BANG.. lights are up and we were told to get out... probably wont hurry back there. The brand was awesome but the vibe was not at all cool.
I had a really good time here. We watched a great local band and had some decent drinks and appetizers. The cocktail waitress was really nice and attentive, too.
What a great venue. We did the dinner/show package to see Acoustic Alchemy and it was so intimate. Its been a long time since I sat 4 feet from a performance stage. The dinner was great, we had the short ribs and macadamia encrusted fish. The chocolate cake was plenty for two to share.
Great atmosphere and a lovely light bites menu! They always have a great band playing there if you like live music! Located right on the harbor on Shelter Island so there are spectacular views. Sit by the window and take in the beauty is San Diego! We always have enjoyed the bands that play there as well as their main stage venue that brings in top notch nationally and internationally recognized groups!
Tuesday night entertainment is amazing! We had a great dinner and cocktails with live music. Fun date night
Humphreys Backstage Lounge is a great place to kick back during happy hour. You can order happy hour priced drinks and food from the happy hour menu, or order from the restaurant menu. All the food is prepared in their restaurant. The lounge is located at the back of the restaurant, plus you can listen to a local band right after happy hour. If your staying at Humphreys which is a great place, there is no cover charge for the lounge.
We went 2 nights in a row, it was that much fun! First night was a funk band. Second night was another fun band. Lots of dancing!Waitress was super efficient. Bouncer and DJ were very friendly. Drinks were well priced. Food was so good! Loved this place!!!!
This is a GREAT small venue to see someone you like in an intimate space. We saw Phil Vassar on Valentines 2/14/20. He was excellent. We purchased tickets months in advance and they were ~$50 each...GREAT DEAL. There was an option to get seats up front for $110 each, but I was worried it would be too close and there was no seating chart or pictures for me to see what I was buying (they should definitely have this available online IMO). We arrived at 7:45pm for the 8:30pm show, got our wristbands inside after showing our e-tickets, then were told to go back outside and line up around the building. That wasnt ideal because it was cold and 45 minutes til the show. But we dealt with it and survived. Once they opened the doors, it was first come, first served and all a little herky jerky with scrambling to get good seats. We lucked out and got decent ones at one of the few two-tops (most tables had four seats to each small table). I was happy we didnt pay for the seats up front because they were small, uncomfortable folding chairs very close together with nowhere to put a drink or food! We did note several tables with obstructions and I would have been very disappointed had we had to have one of those. Also, the staff needs to do a better job at keeping people quiet. I was amazed at how disrespectful people were. I realize the venue feels like a lounge where you can have dinner and talk, but you should remember that people are paying for tickets to see a performer. We had to tell the table next to us to stop because they were telling over Phil Vassar to hear each other in their conversation. Why even come if you arent going to watch the show??Next time, I would get general admission again, but get there probably an hour or so before the show to get an even closer table. Just be sure to bring a coat for waiting!
My wife and I always have a smile on our face. Unfortunately our waitress did not and was very unsociable. To the point where we just left. I’m not sure what’s in the water at Humphreys ?
This place has an amazing view and have bands playing on live...There is a $5 coner Monday trough Thursday @the happy hour time but not Friday so we were lucky not to be chargethere was a band playing rock and our big surprise was people over 50 or 60s were having so much fun. It can be loud when you step in but then i think it is ok...drinks were ok $5 well cocktails to spend a gorgeous afternoon. A lot of free parking outside so avoid paying the parking at the hotel. The cust service was awesome!
Love this venue. It is intimate, a wonderful place to see a performer you really love. We saw the Young Dubliners, awesome as always.
Awesome venue for local live music, great food and drinks, amazing bar staff and security. Really nice views and good parking. One of my favorite places in San Diego.
Good for dancing when theres a good band and nice to be on the bay. Wish theyd get more good dance bands. Wed rather move than sit and listen. The concert venue leans toward oldies if you like that.
GREAT SERVICE ! My wife and I headed in here to kill a bit of time prior to dinner at Humphreys Restaurant next door before The Stray Cats Concert on August 31st. Bartenders Nicolas and James looked after us like royalty. I ordered a Thorn Brewing Barrio Lager which tasted great. They even put the large screen TV on the tennis so we could watch the Aussie Nick Kyrgios at the US Open Tennis. Great place to chill out !
Intimate atmosphere and delicious food set the night off to a terrific start. Cocktails made to perfection. Outstanding service! Live entertainment. Perfect date night place, hanging with friends or any adult occasion. Loved it!
Great band to dance West Coast and East Coast Swing to Fridays 4 PM to 7 PM.
Pros: If you are there for music, its pretty great. The drinks are decent though the food is... well, its mediocre if youve had enough drinks. They do have a decent line upon bands and plenty of room to dance.Cons: Unfortunately this place is old, a bit dirty and in need of a right good scrub. Conclusion: I have to say that the overall vibe was super chill and unpretentious so depending on the act, we will be back.
Wonderfully unique venue for music lovers of all genres! Excellent gourmet fresh appetizing entrees and appetizers. Impeccable friendly service. Backstage bar welcomes you with an arrayof talented famous performers poster like photographs, from Bob Dylan to StevieWonder, that have graced their Concert Stage. Humphreys daily musical performers at Backstage Bar and Lounge, from rock to blues, Santana tribute to Detroit Underground blues, funk etc bands. Enjoy Life, Music and Love!
Terrible acoustics, management & staff! Over sold and had to wait over 30 minutes w a prepaid ticket! Skip the Humphreys Backstage venue....very small & claustrophobic....much better venues close by- Music Box & House of Blues!
Best small venue ever to catch a show. Statt in the bar fornyour pregame and ask for a roadie to take into the concert side...skipping the line at the bar...THANK YOU Dale for the tip!!!!
I love the bands that play at Humphreys! I have been coming here for years and I have always had a good time!
This is a good date spot. They have live music and a great back patio! Awesome cocktails. Good vibes. Decent prices and service.
Definitely one of the most be as dutiful hotels in San Diego, C as California. Great service, awesome views and ideal location for any visitor. Close to restaurants, the as airport and a wonderful place to take a stroll. Rooms were the best Ive had in a long time.
This place has the best sound of all the venues Ive been to in Atlanta, and Ive been to most of them. The bar has a great selection of beer, though drinks are a little on the expensive side. Ticket prices are generally pretty reasonable though, so this is forgivable. One of my favorite venues in town!
I enjoyed the size of the room. Easy parking.
Despite the hotel restaurant feeling, they book in good bands and its fun to go there and dance.
Great venue, I came to see chromeo and it looked and sounded amazing. Its outdoors and near the beach.
Neddy our waitress/Server was Rock Star! we were celebrating our sisters birthday. Neddy handled everything like a pro,, even our picky eater that seemed to want to order anything, but the menu items.... Also Thank you for the salmon recommendation.
Great band. Cocktail server was very put off when we sent back the chewy ceviche octopus.
Humphreys Backstage Live is a small and quaint outdoor theater right on the bay. The prices are very good and the entertainment at both concerts I attended was great. We had so much fun! Also, you can have a nice dinner next to the theater before the concerts with a view of the harbor and then dance the night away and/or have dinner there after the concert. I have given a rating of four stars instead of five only because parking is a little difficult and the restrooms are higher class, roomy port-a-potties with lights and a sink. There was no odor what-so-ever in the one I used at the concert about a month ago. I will continue going to concerts at Humphreys and making the long drive to San Diego from the Inland Empire because I enjoy and prefer a quaint and small theater.
What a beautiful place I will be going back to this venue to see a concert.
Always a good time. Great for live music and dancing with your loved ones.
Great place to eat and have a drink to relax and enjoy.
Great venue for concerts. Eric Burton was still pretty good. We ate at the bar and it was great too.
Jason Brown was Awesome! Find him on Facebook at jbrownmusicsd!
Great venue. Great service. Music a little low.Seats way too close together
The sound engineer Sam knows his stuff! Bartenders are extremely knowledgeable as well!
I have been the DJ for events here and we are friends with many performing bands. Great venue!
Always an awesome time when I go out dancing at Humphreys Backstage Live. I love the bands that plays here. Wildside Band and Detroit Underground are my favorites. Great and fun older crowd.
Nice place with good music. I really enjoy the bands Detroit Underground and Funk Most Wanted. The table service could be better, but it is what it is.....
Always a great idea. Happy hour menu and awesome music
Great place to go dancing with your friends, good size dance floor, the outside balcony is wonderful on a summer night. I do wish they would put the air conditioning on a little more often. I dont mind the $12 cover on weekends, although I dont really think Sunday should be considered a weekend LOL. The $5 cover the other nights is great
Beautiful dance floor . 5pm bands are 5$ and bring in good dancers.12 to 15$ cover starts at 9pm ends at 11:15pm.Nice outside balcony overlooking all the boats. Some people pull thier kayaks and small boats in to hear the premier shows playing next door.
I had more seat room on my Southwest flight! But, still haha a great concert.
Delicious dinner in the restaurant and great performance by Eric Roberson!
Beautiful venue! Right on the water on Shelter Island. Great sound and ambiance. Great place to see a show.
First night at the Humphrey’s and my wife and I went to the Backstage to check it out. The place looked packed and we didn’t think we were going to find any seats. The security/door host “Dale” saw we were unsure and found us seats and took care of us the rest of the nite like we were on the celeb A list.He also filled us in with places to go and things to do since this is our first time in San Diego. Dale started our mini vacation out great, we will be back. Thanks so much for 5 star service Dale!
Great music and ambiance! Only $5 cover and yummy cocktails
Nice and very convenient. Good shows.
Great place, great music and atmosphere. Would definitely visit again on a gig night.
Concert was amazing. Service at dinner was no bueno.
Food is great! Drinks are awesome especially the big a$$ beer! The pianists are hilarious and this place is always a good time!
Top venue for Live Music in San Diego. Best bands in San Diego play here. Harbor views, great menu, full bar, easy parking.
Bands are great! Food is good- a little pricey but good.
I loved the Shout House! This place was definitely entertaining and the guys on the pianos are very talented and engages the audience.
Good food and music in a beautiful place.
Music was high quality live band. Was very crowded on Saturday night and felt like trying to fill up every nook and cranny. Fun place but needs a little more monitoring of how many people fit.
Top notch location for great live music and awesome happy hour specials.
Absolute great time! The Beach Boys were awesome! Traveled from L.A. to see my hometown guys and had a wonderful time with my wife! Humphreys staff are so warm and welcoming! Classy joint with a cool old school doorman! Best location for a beach concert!!! Highly recommended to catch a good show=) Thx again See u all soon
This plac is awesome!! The atmosphere is not intimidating at all! All age groups and ethnicities are always evenly represented, in terms of the people that go here. Great for a date night, or a ladies night out! I highly recommend this place, if not for the food(also delicious), for the music and friendly staff.
Humphreys Backstage lounge is my # 1 choice of dance place for early birds 5-7 pm like me. It is so safe here! The restaurant hostess, security guys, bartenders and waitresses are so friendly! You will meet a lot of dance lovers whether they are couples or singles. I call the ladies I met at Humphreys my soul sisters, and we do things outside of Humphreys!!! The food was delicious, and the happy hour 4-7 price is 50%off. The live bands are always awesome at what they are doing, whether is blues, country, or R&B.
Good fast service, we were able to get dinner before the concert.
There was a good band. I met with some friends there. Dancing was fun. There was VERY little diversity. The food was pretty good.
I performed there with LUVALOT band several times. Always professional courtesy from staff and bartenders. Great atmosphere on the bay.
Great place to chill, listen to a live band, and now we have country night on Wednesdays where anyone can learn how to line dance. The bartenders are really nice, fast, and they make really good brand new drinks
Small area very crowded but fun
Great HAPPY HOUR AND MUSIC!
Very elegant place for a romantic dinner by the bay. The food and service was excellent. Plus, the the Saturday night entertainment with the live band was fun. Cant wait to come back on our next visit.
They need to provide chairs that have cup holders... and could be a little wider
Ordered a hamburger waited for 35mins, for it Never arrived to our table And the server could tell us she placed the order. While more then 6tables around us gor served. Manager response was might have been computer glich. SAD
Saw a chessy band but the people there were having lots of fun. Beautiful views!
Weve been to this venue many times, including twice in the past week. We enjoy live music, and this spot is great for that. The happy hour menu is extensive, but the food was really not appealing at all. We got a dip and chips plate with stale, tasteless chips, and dips that were not tasty. The crabcake was bland, with very little hint of crab. The cole slaw was bland. The chicken cobb salad featured chicken that didnt taste like anything. Just cold chewy cubes. The coconut shrimp came with 4 tiny shrimp and a mound of warm (not hot) fries. Misleading. The burger was expensive and tasteless, not worth the price. They dont provide salt and pepper routinely, nor condiments that are typically served with such foods. So, although our waitress was trying to provide good service, she was busy and we had to wait before we could eat.We might come back for music, but well probably grab food elsewhere.
Great entertainment, drinks, food, and view.
Funks Most Wanted Band is playing tonight. They are one of my favorite local bands.
The best live entertainment of all of SD
Food was great! The live music was entertaining, arrive early to grab a table.
Great music and good drinks at reasonable prices. Fun time!
We go here a lot for happy hour. The food is horrendous but I heard theres a new menu coming.
Its awesome. Music is fantastic... Drink menu could use some sprucing up, though, in my humble opinion.
Great place to grab some food before the show!
Went for line dance lessons. Lots of fun.
Smaller indoor bar and stage at Humphreys. Great local and international bands play here. All genres. Bring earplugs if you want to preserve your hearing during shows.
Went here for a blues brunch and loved the entertainment but the service was some of the worst. After being told to seat ourselves at a counter, a server moved us because they had packed tables in so close together that she couldnt navigate the space with us there. Okay, reasonable. Sort of. We got a new waitress and she tried to move us back saying that we were ruining the view of the couple next to us. At this point, we had to get in the middle of the server wars and explain why we were just there and werent allowed to sit there while people at BOTH tables were shooting us dirty looks. We felt totally unwelcome and if it werent for the performance we would have left. While the two servers duked it out off-scene we decided to move ourselves to a shady corner that was crowded with an extra chair facing away from everything and stare at a wall.We were there 2 hours when we felt ready to leave but the server didnt come over for another hour. In the whole three hours we didnt get a refill of water until we asked for it with our check. If we thought the food would make up for the welcome, we were mistaken. The buffet was big but so big that nothing was done well. My egg Benedict, for example, consisted of a barely toasted English, dried out slice of Canadian, poorly poached egg that was basically just the yoke, and no Hollindaise.
Nice music venue. Overall comfy place. Tables sometimes hard to get
Great venue, beautiful location, music was awesome, staff was prompt and courteous, food and drinks were tasty. It doesnt get much better than that!
Funks Most Wanted always puts on a good show.
Finally had a chance to see Marcus Miller, David Sanborn and Bob James . I was a little frustrated at how bad the sound was considering we have 3 musical Icons on the same stage . This message is to Humphreys management, please invest in your sound company and better seating .
This is the 2nd brunch event my family have had at Humphreys and have not been disappointed. The food, the atmosphere, the music was all great. The young lady who served our table was fantastic.
Beautiful venue, Beach boys were great. Venue on Shelter Island is a must do, super experience.
Where else can you boat to a concert
Arrives not so late and our son (2 y old) wanted to listen to the live music. Unfortunately we werent allowed to get in due to his age - needs to be 21 y old to be able to enter the bar. Wherever we travelled before with kids - all over the world - that has never been a problem before. Looked lovely from the outside but our son was devastated all way home and I would never recommend this place to anyone. Thanks for the hospitality!
Great atmosphere and friendly staff with great live dance band, VIVA, made a PERFECT evening
Hey, we had a reservation for a small after party of a wedding. Showed up at the right time with our crew, and the bouncer has this bizarre attitude that they were overbooked and could not let us in.’obviously all the reservations for the wedding were done months in advance, and they had a management/IT problem they were not willing to admit. They missed out on excited, drunk wedding guests who would have spent plenty of money. Sucks to permanently lose 25 eager customers. Bye Felicia
Very high end placeGood people great music and good food !
Great place, great entertainment, great experience.
