A fantastic space very close to the city but awash in green and trees and plant life. A winding path, a view of downtown, a cool playground and a waterfall feature. Very quiet and shady, clean and feels safe. A good place for a leisurely walk in a circle all around the space. Guides to birds and wildlife, well-maintained. One of my favorite parks in the city.
This is a sweet location with even better music. I stopped in after getting drinks in North Park and was immediately impressed by the space. The environment was very intimate which was an incredible contrast to the open space with giant ceilings and expansive floor plan. The show I saw was epic. I was surprised by the no filming rule! So watch out for that!
Great small venue. Affordable tickets (for the most part) and small bar in the back. Its like a smaller version of the house of blues downtown but I enjoy the proximity to the stage. Standing room only no seating. The security is a bit eh. Ive had problems in the past where they wont let us in for stupid reasons. But overall a nice venue.
One of my favorite venues for live music. Small and intimate enough, but hosts some large acts. They host a variety of genres and give the opportunity to see some great acts up close. Parking is across the street and generally lets everyone out at the end of the show for free. Great location as well offering opportunities to grab food before the show. Tickets are fairly priced compared to the larger venues around.
I love this spot. Saw Suicide Boys here for my birthday. It has great ambiance. Very chill. Nice vibes. Affordable shows with great artists. Not ample parking, but its North Park, what do you expect?
Intimate space. Have gone to several concerts here and have never been disappointed. All general admission so no chairs in the way to instruct you from moving to the music. The floor is at a slant so that those in back can still see decently. Friendly staff decent lighting. Crowds are pretty chill here. Stay in their spot and to dont move constantly or shove their way to front as some crowds do at other joints. Which is a plus. So thank you to audience too for being considerate and actually enjoying the concert and not being a duck and pushing people out of way.Sound acoustics are ok. Depends on concert. But sometimes cant hear vocals as well. The singers mikes should be turned up more if possible. Or maybe its just the building structure? I dont know.Overall love going to concerts here!
Concerts are super fun here! Pretty cool set up,good drinks and food! Thanks
The venue is pretty small and you can say during the concert its gets pretty intimate. But I would say those are plusses. I went here for a concert. The acoustics and the lighting were on point. The drinks were decent. Overall experience was awesome.
Saw oliver tree with my husband. The security does an amazing job here. If youre underage and think you will get away with drinking while in line, this is not the place to be. Great sound system, and it was very clean inside.
Well I went for the Vintage Flea Market which way pretty awesome. It was in the back of the observatory however. The only con was parking. There was a parking garage across the street for max $5 I think so whatever. I was assisting someone so I wasnt able to shop for myself, but it was still fun to look around. I will definitely bring my teen daughter next time since there was vinyl as well!
What an amazing venue. The perfect size to see a show, small enough to be intimate, but large enough for great crowd energy. I wish Vegas had something similar, I’d be at a show weekly. The staff were professional and friendly. Parking was easy to find and free. I look forward to visiting for future shows.
Nice location. Parking is a breeze. Entry is smooth and no matter where you are you have a good view. The bar service was great.
What a Great Time I had there ! Go there and see Chris Robinsons BROTHERHOOD on Dec.07 !I got my tickets and look forward to another GREAT SHOW !
The venue is great and so is the atmosphere. I really have to tip my hat off to the security that they have at the Observatory. They did an excellent job at keeping everyone save at the concert.
Loved the space and the acoustics were incredible. My feet are still vibrating from the bass. Will definitely be seeing other concerts here
I really like it here, its a beautiful venue with a great sound. Big enough to host popular bands but not large enough to have a nose bleeds section. Happy hour at the connected west coast tavern is excellent as well.
Perfect venue to catch live music and gigs, with the added benefit of being attached to the West Coast Tavern next door to grab a bite/drinks before a concert. Highly recommend for great atmosphere!
I used to come here when it was still a Movie theatre so I love it for the memories it brings. Aside from the bathroom lines always being hideous, it’s usually a great time at this venue. Sound quality is ok, drinks are good. Security is usually nice, although I was harassed the last time I was there. I have dreads so I’m used to being watched, but I actually don’t smoke weed, so the fact that a guard threaten to throw me out for smoking really was a bummer. He admitted that he didn’t see me smoke, but that he saw smoke coming from somewhere near me... That shouldn’t be enough evidence to threaten me.
Besides parking being a pain. This venue is awesome. Theres a bar and balcony, its mostly standing room only in there.Theres lots of things to do around the venue, tons of little eateries and shops to explore. The whole neighborhood is pedestrian friendly. Just be sure youre wearing comfy waking shoes.
Love this place! Great venue. Great acoustics. Great people. Amazing artists. I like that they try to bring in bands from all genres and different levels of fame. Keep up the great work. I hope to play there one day.
This venue has a nice incline which allows everyone to see wherever they stand. Also the air conditioning coming out of the floor is awesome. No overheating. Sound is on point. And the interior molding and crowning is lovely.
Saint Motel at the Observatory! This is a spectacular venue to see a band. It is standing room only, but there is not a bad spot in the house. We had such a great time :)
Great music venue in a historic North Park landmark. The sound is good and the acts/bands coming through are top quality. If a band you like comes through San Diego and plays here, go do it. You will enjoy it. If not, hunt me down and give me a good smack. I know I have it comin.
Fantastic place to see your favorite groups
Its an old school theater turned into a music venue, thats cool. Overpriced beer and cocktails are expected, no complaint there. The best part about this place is the air conditioning. Hear me out. Most places have a series of overhead units assisted by big fans. Not this place, the air comes from floor vents! No matter where you are in the floor, theres a vent no more than a few feet away. Genius!
Nice, smaller venue for music. Great space and decor. Easy parking nearby, only $5 on a Sunday night.
The show was good but was not expecting 30min break that was too long
Great venue, but small sizes in terms of crowd and audience space. Great to go at night.
Beautiful venue, but I got in early to skip the line. Hardly anyone there yet, bands hadn’t even started playing. I had to leave the venue to take an important personal phone call. They said if I left I wouldn’t be allowed back in. I didn’t have a choice. No reentry allowed. Didn’t get to see any of the show. I thought it was a ridiculous policy with no exceptions made and seemed unnecessary as there are plenty music venues that allow re-entry using wrist bands, stamps or some other form of proof that you’re an attendant.
Nice, small venue. Just the way I like to see shows. No issues using the restroom or getting a drink. Look forward to seeing more shows here
Went to stoner metal show by the band Sleep. The show was sold out. Everyone went nuts for Sleep, they played for over hour and a half. A really awesome venue to see a band of that high(no pun intended) caliber. Highly recommend the Observatory
Nice venue. Security is a little excessive upon entry but the building is beautiful and the bars seem easily accessible. Hope to visit again.
Great venue to watch newer hot acts. I felt that I had a great view to the stage accoustics were great I would go again. Good restaurants within a few blocks
Excellent atmosphere and overall a great place to watch a show.
This place was a blast! The architecture is really something else inside, the sound quality is great, drinks and food sold inside. Really well done, fair with pricing as well. Well done I recomend catching any concert there its that small feel but big quality! Thanks
Great venue in North Park. Slanted floor means more people can see the stage, and there are vents in the floor pumping air into the crowd. Great venue.
Dec 01 2016We went to see Daughter and it was fenomenal, the acustics, energy of the place it was a great concert.
Great place for concerts more cool close experience than arenas. had a great time there, we went to see QOTSA great show, lights and sound people working there are really nice and polite. Plus the vintage architecture of the place makes it really beautiful and opened . Great work guys.
First time at this venue. Really cool. Not huge but a good size for a concert. Drinks are generous and not outrageously priced.
Say what?! You havent been to the best music venue in San Diego? Well spin the wheel, pick a show, and prepare for an excellent musical experience. The Observatory was once a traditional theater, balconies and all, and as a result, maintains the style, charm, and acoustical quality of the days of old. The slopped floor combined with the newly installed overhangs provide every location in the theater with an incredible vantage point. In addition, the recently renovated bar area makes purchasing libations and merch a breeze. Best of all, the acoustics at the Observatory are on point, second to none in San Diego. Take the time to see a show at the Observatory, youll be happy you did.
The staff and security were helpful and professional. The venue itself is a great place to see a show. The architecture and design gives it a really unique feel.
Great venue. Intimate, but not crowded and they dont try to gouge you on food and drink costs.
Staff was surprisingly friendly. Often times you go to these smaller venues and the staff just dont really seem to care, but everyone seemed to be in a good mood and very helpful with any questions I had. One thing I really liked was that parking is right across the street and at the end of the show they give you a validated ticket. So parkings free!We saw Local Natives and they were awesome! They sounded great! If ever an artist I want to see is playing at this venue, Id definitely go back.
The Observatory isnt a very large venue but it didnt feel crowded with the large group of people that showed up. Yet again an Excellent Gatsby Party! The multiple acrobatic performances were awesome! Enjoyed seeing all the different beautiful outfits people chose to wear. Also love the convince of having the parking garage right next door.
Great venue, big enough for a reasonable crowd and small enough to still feel intimate. Id see a show here anytime.
Love this venue. A/C is located in the floors! Girls, wear your skirts in the summer. Lol
Nice mid size venue with clean facilities and a great location in North Park (tons of bars nearby)
This is my favorite music venue in San Diego. Not a bad seat in the house. Pretty personal venue. The shows are pretty solid and reasnobly priced. They sell beers in the tall boys which is also pretty nice. Its attached to West coast tavern which also has some delicious food and cocktails.
Definitely a cool spot to see shows. The best bet is to buy drinks at the Tavern which is connected to the club, youll save a bit of cash by doing that & you can bring those slightly cheaper drinks to the show side. Just saw my buds Neurosis & Amenra there & both bands killed it. Recommended!
A fun venue featuring a variety of musicians and performances. Parking structure across the way helps alleviate street parking issues
Great place to see bands or a play. + theres usually free parking.
Always love going to this venue, usually not wall-to-wall packed for concerts i attend. Parking structure is conveniently next door, but unless you’re on the first two levels, you’ll be waiting a while to leave when the concert lets out.
Came to see AFI. Had a great time. Plenty of restaurants and coffee shops. Parking structure closes even if there are cars inside so you have to get your car out as soon as the event is over. This sucks for anyone trying to stay after the shows for meet and greets with artist.
Came here for the Jose Caballero for Congress 2020 campaign kickoff. Good sized venue, perfect for a comedy show, or small concert.
Very large venue. Sometimes the artist can come off too loud but they normally handout ear plugs inside for free. There are 3 separate bars that I had seen. 1 inside, another toward the street, and a main bar just as u enter the street. Great place.
Awesome standing room venue. The staff does a fantastic job with sound design. The attached cafe and bar has great food, great drinks, insanely great prices. I saw the Hu here, the band was amazing.
Love the venue it has a great sound i was able to see LP up and close, they have parking, beer whiskey, asada tacos great memories.
One of the best venues in the county. Slopes floor, vents in the floor, excellent sound. Love it!
Great venue, small enough to feel personal, but big enough to never feel crowded. Awesome ventilation too. Ocasional sticky floors though
Small venue. The floor is sloped so its easier to see the stage unless someone really tall stands in front of you. There are little to no seats. The acoustics is alright.
Great live music venue, cant speak for the bar but as a venue it is amazing, friendly staff, large open standing area, and parking directly across the street is convenient. Would go here again for a shoe any time
Great small concert venue. I was in town on vacation and knew that a band I really liked was playing at the Observatory North. Ticket purchase was easy and reasonable. Security was efficient and respectful. The venue had a cool vintage vibe. Ill go out of my way to see another concert the next time Im in town
I love this venue. It’s so small but perfect!
Really beautiful venue. We went to see 6lack. He was amazing! Lil hot of course and it was a ridiculously long line still and we got there late.
Just saw Blood Incantation, Necrot, Morbid Angel, and Cannibal Corpse rock the earth at this place. Fantastic experience!
Decent venue in a great building. Prices were about average for the area. Security was a little more anal than most but seemed like ok guys. I had a good time, no complaints.
One of the venues in San Diego. The best thing besides the awesome sound is the Air Conditioning coming out of the floor throughout the building. Nothing is better then not sweating while enjoying a great show
Great place for a concert great acoustics and two bars for your drinking pleasure.
The venue was amazing. Being able to take my 7 year old son. It was a life changing experience!!!
Very nice venue. I was very surprised it was at least 3 floors. Went to see Big Boi for my Birthday 2018. Back to AZ tomorrow afternoon.~Mamatpp
I saw a live podcast at this venue. They had very strict rules: vape cartridges, pens, and pencils were not allowed in the venue. I am a writer and always have expensive pens in my bags, I was not expecting to be hassled over my pens & my legal vape. They sold standing GA tickets for less than sitting GA tickets, so there were tons of empty seats and all the walking spaces were crowded with people. The food & drinks were fine but the process of getting into the venue and having to throw my stuff away to get into the show I paid for was really frustrating. I will not be attending again, I would not recommend this venue.
The huge, theater-like venue is well ventilated and offers a great view of the stage almost no matter where you are. Sound quality is good. The venue itself is beautiful with very high ceilings and ornate decoration. Bar is easily accessible; the walkways are normally kept clear by the excellent staff. Great experience every time.
Ive been here a bunch of times and never had a bad experience. Doesnt matter at what time you get here because you are able to see the bands performing from every part of the venue, its small but the floor has an incline with chairs if you dont want to be at the pit area.Pretty good acoustic and a nice looking place.
Staff can be a little aggressive but the venue is perfect for medium sized shows. The setting feels intimate with decent views from anywhere in the crowd. Sound quality is great and their lighting team is very talented. Also the vents in the floor are game changing.
Great venue. Attached to a bar that serves food as well in case you get hungry/thirsty. Smoking area outside if ya need to slip out between acts to grab a puff (no re-entry if you walk out the front door)
Went to see KRS-ONE at the Observatory in DAYGO and his performance was ..tickets were cheap and paid $8.00 for Budlight in cup ..Observatory is great spot to catch great performances!!
First time there had a great time love all the options and scattered bars in different sections and partition/levels. Dead cross was great too.
The staff at this venue are exceptional! Everyone from security, matienance, bartenders, to the bathroom attendants and etc deserve this 5 star rating. We were able to have fun and enjoy ourselves because of the professionalism of the staff. We went to see punk act IDLES with opener Surfbort and had the time of our lives! Thank you to everyone at The Observatory North Park for being on top of everything and keeping safety a priority. This is a gem of a venue!
The concert it was awesome.los Angeles azules make a great show.the reason why I make two stars is the next (in the picture) they was making jokes about the people they are there for security reasons and is good, but we was a lot of people and they were in chit chat. in the concert and in any business that is really bad for the business.but thank you for the concert.
Good venue for music,BUT the search to get in is worse than a TSA screening. Once you get past that you have to out up with a venue Full of Cigarette Smoke. It was so bad half way into this show I left. My eyes were burning and through was sore. I would rather breath in second hand Mmj smoke than toxic cigarettes. This venue will not get my business again.
Great atmosphere, delicious food, reasonable prices, lots of regulars
I really enjoyed the layout of this venue. It is reminiscent of the Wiltern in Los Angeles which is one of my favorite venues because of the capacity and intimate feeling. Waiting outside for GA isnt too bad depending on the weather. I was lucky that I havent had a concert in the rain yet otherwise we would have had to stand in the rain. Parking is a bit tough around here if youre trying to park for free but its definitely possible. Ive not paid either of the two times Ive been here.
Great venue for intimate concerts. Floor is inclined and.. Air vents all over from the Floor. Super COOL. NO PUN INTENDED.
Saw Gary Gulman last night. Beautiful venue! I would highly recommend!!! He was hilarious btw dont miss his stand up.on HBO.the great Depresh.
I have attended 2 shows here at the observatory in north park and both times were good. Look forward to more events at this venue.
I say old sport! On this particular occasion, it was the roarin 20s. We got to tap into our flappin, glammin, dancin fantasy for this touring Great Gatsby Party show.Id heard of this event, and couldnt miss it. The place was decked out in mansion style decor, and they required everyone to dress Gatsby style which added to the ambience.Ive been to the North Park Observatory for other concerts and DJs, and always enjoy the experience. Sometimes they leave the seats in, and for dance worthy shows, they take them out.The sound is great, and there isnt a bad seat in the house. Most shows range between $25-50 which makes for an affordable concert in a happening part of town. There are tons of restaurants and bars close by to enjoy before and/or after the show. Usually a good group of people drawn to the Observatory, however there have been some problems with fights on rare occasions.Parking is now super convenient with the new lot... at only $5 for the evening (the night we went at least) makes the venue a no brainer.I always have a good time and feel like part of the show here as it is a super intimate atmosphere. Another cool and notible trait of the theatre is that they have unique acts come through that you often cant see anywhere else.I reccomend including an appearance at the Observatory in your next date night or guys/girls night out. There is a bar on that shares half of the venue in case you want to sample the vibe before investing a whole night.Keep an eye out for your favorite bands, or better yet get on their list for updates and events. They do sell out quite often, so dont wait to grab tickets!
Ive been to several shows at the Observatory (North Park) and I wanted to say I am SO impressed with the professionalism of their staff and security guards.I work security for a bar in PB so I know how how taxing the job can be.Everytime Ive gone to a show the security has been friendly, polite and super helpful. Even when they have a sell out show and a packed house everyone is in good spirits from start to finish.Oh and the food is awesome. Their hummus appetizer is some of the best hummus Ive ever had, great work.Just wanted to say I appreciate the hospitality and looking forward to my next visit.
The place is awesome great staff members you have in there, the venue is very elegant
Its a super cool concert venue, parking is across the street (thats nice) I think like $5.00They do have a restaurant there, so thats cool . Also inside they have a taco cart. It small but bigger than house of blues. Very much enjoy going. And I really like the security they have. I feel safe :)
Youll have good views no matter where you stand. Bar inside the theater is convenient. Acoustics arent great and you cant hear what musicians say over the instruments (couldve been the sound engineers issue, though). Bring ear plugs.
The show was not so great the best part were the drinks
Great sound! Enjoyed seeing the Hu Band here! Get dinner and drinks at the bar next door and skip the line to get in the front door
TRIBAL SEEDS THE BEST! HOMEGROWN!
This is probably the overall best venue in San Diego. The layout is great because there are several different vantage points from which to see the show and theyre accessible to everyone. The best part is the sound. Loud and clear. I feel like House of Blues venues all have a governor on their sound boards so its never loud enough unless youre on the stage. Not so at Observatory.
This is a really nice venue. It is a refurbished theater so there is some cool features most venues dont have like vents in the floor in the pit area. The only thing that could make the venue better is in and out privileges. North Park is a pretty great area for restaurants and bars, plus its nice to just put your merch in the car instead of carrying it around.
Pretty cool venue overall. Concerts are great and the Tavern restaurant connected to it has great food and drinks!
Nice cozy venue. Music was great. Enjoyed the crowd
Intimate setting, good atmosphere and good sound, with general admission that allows for free roaming. Its easy to get a good view, and up close. Moscow mules are the best drinks here! Easy access, and connected to West Coast Tavern so there are alot of bars within the venue.
