I like to review the artwork in the theatre between shows here something about their collection selections are always quite interesting. Depending on the performance we are seeing this review would change drastically. I have seen some excellent shows here and I have seen some that put me to sleep. This is an excellent local theatre but you have to be selective on the shows you see. If youre getting good seats last minute my experience is its not worth it.

The Pioneer theater is a nice spot to see a live show. The theater itself is on the small side so youd be hard pressed to find a bad seat. The theater is in the middle of the U of U campus so parking can be unpleasant as there isnt a dedicate lot for the theater. There were refreshments available in the lobby during intermission, but the lobby is pretty cramped with only a few chairs. The prices for the show we attended were pretty high for the quality of the venue and production which were average to slightly below average. Id recommend this theater, but you can probably find better options if you look around. There are better quality theaters in and around Salt Lake for a lower price.

Wow, what a place. I saw The Play That Goes Wrong here and it was fabulous. The theater was comfortable and it was nice to have the leg room, which is in short supply in other theaters around. i was in the front, so sound was not an issue but I will say that if you were in the back, it would be harder to hear because without the mics, the sound doesnt travel as far. But outside of that, it is a wonderful venue and I am looking forward to going back.

The Pioneer theatre puts on a great show. I have been to many plays here and I always enjoy it. They always have a talented cast and the crew and staff keep everything running smoothly. My favorite plays that I have seen here are “Twelfth Night” and “The play that went wrong”.

The productions, actors and sets are fantastic, always very well done. Each seasons choices of shows are top notch & diverse, from very large musicals to small intimate settings. The staff is always pleasant. Tickets prices reasonable. Most seats have good viewing. It can be difficult to hear if you are in the balcony.

PTC’s current run of “Cagney” is superb. With music and lyrics written and performed by Robert Creighton, the cast sings and dances it’s way through the life of a legend with Broadway and Hollywood as it’s backdrop. Go now before it’s Broadway debut. When it wins its share of Tony awards, you’ll be able to boast that you saw it first!

We saw Sweeney Todd on Halloween night and it was AMAZING! It was pricey (we were in second row) but it was worth it! I got a free drink since I came in my costume. It has been one year since I saw the play Christmas at Pemberly. I still am extremely disappointed in the story of the play. Pride and Prejudice was exceptional writing and I was hoping to visit with those same endearing characters. I cant and dont want to remember who wrote the script, but whoever she was, did she feel she could or should rewrite a classic? Jane Austins story will be remembered forever. The new story didnt revisit those enduring characters but blasted out a crass and brash Mary and wimpy Darcy. The acting was good with what they had to work with.. The revised story was atrocios!. I longed for a revisit with those old friends and met with strange mutations with the same names..

Great place to see a show. The theater is small enough that there isnt really a bad place to sit. We saw Christmas at Pemberly and the acting was great and the scenery was far nicer than expected. The theater is on the campus of the University of Utah and has plenty of parking to the South of the theater. Not a bad place to go for a night out on the town. #culture #theater #play

Hands down one of the best local theater options in Utah. They offer a good variety of shows each season. There is always a few family friendly options, something to push the edges and get you thinking, a musical or two, and usually a bit of Shakespeare. Amazing set designs, costumes, and general production value. Highly recommended!

I have thoroughly enjoyed every play I have scene here. The sets are very well done and varied. Students can purchase discounted tickets at the door for 5 dollars up to two tickets. A good variety of plays are performed each season. You can see Shakespeare or more contemporary works, like Fences. The best place to park is the stadium lot, which is about a 5 minute walk from the theater.

Grease” at Pioneer Theater was by far the WORST play I’ve ever had to sit through!!! The choreography and dancing was laughable, the characters were not a good fit, there were awkward pauses during many scenes that made you wonder if it was part of the scene or if someone just forgot their line, and the way the scenes were all jumbled up from the actual movie was very disappointing. The random violence thrown in throughout the play, especially at the end when Sandy punches the cheerleader was completely unnecessary and absolutely made you lose any kind of connection to the character (if you even had one to begin with). The pink hot pants and black thong (um, yes you can still see it) on Sandy are horrible! There was ONE good scene (which saved me from diving head first from the third floor balcony just to make it all stop). The good fairy in Beauty School Dropout in a big sparkly dress and pink wig was amazing! He did a great job!!!The rest of the play was complete garbage. I would fold up the tents now and stop doing this play, it really is that horrible!!!Don’t waste your money, seriously it’s awful!

This is a gem of a local performance theater and was a complete surprise to me. The sets are usually amazingly well constructed and presented. The casting is usually really great and every performance Ive been to in the past two years has been well worth the money for the ticket. Its not quite to the standards of Broadway shows, but its nowhere near as pricey as the Broadway shows, either. The seats are a bit old and uncomfortable to sit in for long periods of time, but its a trade-off for some very good performances at a reasonable cost.

This is a professional theatre venue that nearly always produces spectacular theatre. The sets are creative and stunning. The quality of the performances is top tier. LOVED: the show and the actors. Did NOT love: the narrow seats. Also I dont think there is an excuse to not have microphones on your actors with a play that is all about the witty verbal interaction between the characters. My friend who is a little hard of hearing said she maybe caught half of what was said. Even I, with no hearing problems, struggled throughout, and missed many lines. It definitely detracted from our enjoyment of what was a truly delightful performance.

Loved Count of Monte Cristo and the Last Ship especially (I has a soft spot for musicals). Recently saw the Glass Menagerie, and while it was a downer it was really well done. The singing and acting quality is superb, and the prices are reasonable. There is not a bad seat in the whole theatre. I prefer to sit center and forward but Ive been way in the back and on the upper level and it was still a good view. The theatre is pretty, and I like being able to view the exhibit on the upper floor either while waiting for the show or during intermission.Tickets are easy to reserve online or by phone. Great Acting! Pioneer may present the most consistent and exceptional performances in the Salt Lake Area. Actors are selected mostly from New York and often feature Broadway cast members. Local actors are also featured, but the national casting calls produce better results that other local only theaters in the area. The lighting, sets and costumes are always exceptional. The sound in this theater leaves MUCH to be desired. It is not the crew, they do the best with what they have. It is the house sound system, mostly the speakers and amplification. The theater has been known to supplement the poor house system with additional equipment for some demanding musical productions, but not often enough. That being said, Pioneer provides the closest Broadway experience in the Salt Lake area.
