This was our first visit to Texas Beach and the river was still up higher than normal. There was much beach to speak of. The trail was great and the artwork on the bridge was well done.

Delightful area on the river. Found a shady spot to set up for the day. The hike in is not for anyone with health issues. One series of steps with 4+ levels to get down path and of course it seemed like more to get up. The steps have murals painted in cooperation with VCU Art Dept. Another series of wooden steps to traverse. Again, I stress that this is not an easy hike for older or limited mobility people.Kids & grandkid loved playing in the water and climbing on the rocks. Watched ducks, geese, kayaks, and paddle boards go by.

Great little trails to take your dog walking and to play in the river. There are trails close to the river and plenty of spots if you wanted to being floats/chairs to enjoy a day out on the river. There are signs that dogs need to stay on leashes, but we saw a few people who had their super well behaved dogs offleash. Everyone we passed was super friendly.

Was really skeptical that there would be an actual beach along the river but THERE IT WAS. Its actually got pretty decent sand and a lot of little coves and areas to sit and hang out with your people. The river and swimming areas around the rocks are also pretty awesome looking. Lots of people were swimming and playing with dogs and kids along the shore. Definitely coming back!

If you come to RVA youve gotta hit up Texas beach. Its an awesome spot. Park at the top of the trail and wear tennis shoes. Youve got a moderate hike ahead of you. Cross the covered bridge over the train tracks and head down the trail. Once youre there, pop a chair up and go for a swim in the river. Can get crowded but everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Great spot! Make sure you take any trash back out with you. Dont litter!

Texas Beach is one of the nicest areas of the James River front. Nice trail to get there with steps, bridges, various bike and people paths. Not too overly crowded and a great mix of families and young people.

There arent as many people that come go this part of the James river as they Bell Isle is much more well know. This makes for a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the water without the crowds. Definitely will be coming back

Ive been taking the family to Pony Pasture for the last few years and yesterday we ventured here. Texas Beach is much more kid friendly, although you may hike a little further from the parking lot. Theres many swimming locations along the trail and the rocks are enough to keep kids busy without being very dangerous. Theres a porto potty and dumpsters located at the parking lot.

Lots of friendly people who are just looking to have some fun on the James. Swimming (ok, drifting) down the rapids is fun, though be careful of the underwater rocks, which can be sharp! Taking dogs that need to be leashed isnt safe, because you need to jump long distances over water, and some dogs cant handle that.

Nice spot water has been a bit high lately so watch your step. Once you go down the stairs most people go to the right. Solid choice. Hippie beach is awesome if you can get there. Its an island maybe a mile to the right. If you go the left definitely as the summer progresses a much rougher path. Lots of greenery but very beautiful and if you are daring some nice people built steps in to the trees so you can climb out up over the water. There used to be a hut over this way but has since been destroyed unfortunately. Lots of nice people normally. lots of fun to be had. Good trails. Beautiful murals have been added as well on the steps. Lots of fires into the evening as summer gets going.

Its a bit sketch so dont go at dark but during the day is great! There are artists painting murals on the stairs to the beach which are lovely, the barn owl one is best. But the beach itself is pretty and good for exploring! Turtles, a great blue heron, frogs, lots of other wildlife Im sure. Take the stairs to get to the beach, go right to go on the hiking trail

Beautiful views of the James River, but there are just too many people here on the weekends for it to be worthwhile. The walk to the beach is long and fairly strenuous, not for the very old, the very young, or anyone who is out of shape. It is gorgeous place to hike and would be a great escape from the city if it was less of a circus.

Great place to sit and dip your feet in the James. Walk around the little island but dont dot dot dot (for all you Mama Mia fans )...Wander back and forth across the bridges and go see the the amazing canal system designed by George Washington. Then you too can scratch your head and wonder how he used every single minute of his life to make ours amazing. Sometimes Im just happy if I get the dishes done, George!

Not a great place to take a family. Maybe it was an off day but it was about 12 pm and once we got to the beach there were groups drinking and being Ver loud and obnoxious. When we decided to leave there was a man throwing up by the fountain. It was only 1pm yikes we headed to belle isle where we had a great time.

Great place for a swim on the river. Kid friendly, but not handicap accessible. There is easy access from the parking area up the hill, but space is limited, so arrive early for a parking spot. The trail includes a pedestrian bridge over the train tracks that run along the river and then stairs down to river level. The water runs more slowly than across the river at Belle Isle and remains shallow for most of the beach. Had a great time there!

Its a hike, its a river, its somewhat a beach (depending on where you choose to sit), its a historic landmark all in one. When the tide is low you can claim a rock and perch yourself on that rock and enjoy the river. There are trails you can go on. The murals on the trail to Texas Beach are all very amazing. The most important thing to watch is how high/deep the underlying current is. If it posted that it is above 5ft...do not try and swim unless you have a life vest. The underlying current in the James is no joke. All in all, its a beautiful place.

Jo

You can stay in woods, or go to sand beach on the river. Be around people or walk trails mostly on your own. In winter you have a lot of vision thru the bare trees, in summer lots of green shade. Donated to JR Parks.

A great hidden gem in the Richmond area for nature lovers. Be prepared to walk to what feels like a mile to the waterfront. Bring water, a hammock, chairs, or a beach towel as this is not a domesticated beach. I went on a great day and met some nice people in attendance. Will go back...
