Well maintained visitor center and exhibits. Surrounding area is also great to take a stroll. Easy access to Belle Isle. Free parking for an hour in the parking lot if validated. Otherwise you can park in the Belle Isle lot which is usually filled up. Ill suggest about two hours to experience this place fully.
Wonderful to go for a run around this area!
American History is usually my forte. Learning about it in history books and even in historical television reenactments / movies doesnt do too much to explain how it all went down. It was nice to find this museum on a road trip to Richmond, VA. After a search on Google Maps and TripAdvisor, I decided to spend the afternoon along the James River and visit the Richmond National Battlefield Park on a nice Tuesday afternoon.
This museum was very informative, quit interesting and sad. I definitely recommend it if you had problems understanding history in school or just didnt have a teacher that brought it to life for you. Lots of trinkets, letters and clothing samples. Go.
Great place had fun with my fiance here, a lot of damn people always thou but everyone has to get that work out to gain it right back lol
Very well preserved site. Simple walking trail with placards through the earthworks. Visitors center however was closed when we went at the end of July for spring/summer season.
This national park should have had “Battlefield” in its name pluralized to Battlefields because Richmond National Battlefield Park encompasses ten battlefields and two more sites associated with the two campaigns for Richmond. They are: Chickahominy Bluff Battlefield, Fort Harrison Battlefield, Drewrys Bluff (Fort Darling) Battlefield, Glendale Battlefield, and Malvern Hill Battlefield---all in Richmond, plus Parkers Battery in Chester, plus Totopotomoy Creek Battlefield at Rural Plains, Beaver Dam Creek Battlefield, Gaines Mill Battlefield, and Cold Harbor Battlefield and Visitor Center---all in Mechanicsville. Non-battlefield units of the park in Richmond are Chimborazo Medical Museum/Park Headquarters and Tredegar Iron Works which is the main visitor center.
The park ranger was very helpful!
Beautiful park. Park Services closed due to low manning. Lots of cyclists and walkers.
Full of information I was not aware of concerning the battle for Richmond in the Civil War.
Not my ideal location for the event that I attended
We got in touch with our past.
Not handicapped access
Work here so biased.
Historical
History was reborn here
Not too many people were there.
A must see
