This place was amazing for anyone that played games in the 90s and early 2000s . You will have great food in a private VIP lounge environment while you play every game you can remember. We had an amazing time.
Outstanding! This spot is what Portland needed! Great priced drinks, amazing food, and a video game collection that people only dream of. Service was spot on. They had my childhood favorite game Pikmin, and the owner I believe, even brought out the mouse for Mario Paint. My girlfriend is hooked. To top it all off, they were playing Beastie Boys!Ive been anticipating the opening of this place for awhile. It blew away my expectaions.I live in deep SE and Im so glad I made the mission out.I will be back. Probably too much. HahaPro tip, get the bahn mi dog. Only 6 bucks during happy hour, comes with chips and a pickle!
This was an awesome place to hang out. Got to play so many games I havent seen in years! Everyone was knowledgeable and friendly!
I love this place have been going there for the last year or so
Nice little place where you can have some brews and play some games. The games come on their original (or at least retro) consoles on the big, old style TVs so its got a real authentic feal.
Best place ever!!! Great place to go on dates or kids on wknds
UPDATE: They no longer charge if you just want to have a beer and a chat. They only charge if you are playing games. Apparently there was a big misunderstanding when they began charging to play. The amount is fair and you can opt to be a member allowing unlimited play..Great tap list, friendly employees, awesome selection of games. Theres so much more than meets the eye!! Thanks owners for clearing up the original misunderstandings!---------------------------------------------------All I wanted was to meet up with a friend for a beer. Changed to members only club apparently. Didnt want to pay $5 guest pass plus 7 for 1 beer just to go someplace else in a few min. Charge for video game time, not for entry please. Used to love this place. Have not been back.
Love this place, friendly staff, good eats, great atmosphere. An absolute blast everytime I go.
Great drinks and one insane library of games to choose from. Plus who doesnt like an alcoholic slushy machine.
Awesome place, great food, drinks and lots games to choose from! They have a new menu they are rolling out with lots of delicious options for everyone. Staff is very friendly and attentive, and willing to go the extra mile to make sure you have a good experience. All of their games are actual physical copies and not emulated which to me makes it even more impressive. Rotating tap list and constantly changing drink specials mean theres something different to try every time I come in (try their slushies!).
My new weekly stop. Usually, I dont do bars, but the atmosphere of this place makes me understand why there are regulars. Great staff, good music, and just an all around wonderful vibe.
I highly recommend this place. It is ideal for anyone who played late 80s/early 90s consoles (NES, SENS, Sega Genesis, N64, PS1). They have loads of consoles setup and multiples of most of them. Ive been 3 times and was able to play whichever systems I wanted to. They have a massive selection of games, and I believe theyll pull out games from their library if you ask.The atmosphere is perfect. Comfortable and a little grungy in the way you want from a retro gaming place. It takes me back to Pizza and Mt Dew fueled nights of playing Mike Tysons Punch out with friends.I like the cocktails. All cleverly named and appropriately flavored. The food is my only complaint. They have Hot Dogs. Only Hot Dogs. Not horrible Hot Dogs, but not great Hot Dogs. It fits the atmosphere, so Im sure its intentional, but Portland has hundreds of amazing chefs in the most unlikely places. Its an opportunity for improvement, and I hope they make changes to their menu.If youre curious, go check it out. If my complain about food is stopping out; there are other food places nearby.
Those loaded dogs are actually really good and filling. Was very surprised at how full of cheese and sauce the pizza dog was.The selection of games and consoles is also excellent with many I didnt recognize. It was a little on the full side the night I went, but my friends told me its usually a little more laid back. Cant wait till next time!
So much love for video games in this place. It feels like a cozy living room. The vegan and gluten free options are a plus!
Going to be one of my local haunts. Food is good and reminiscent in the best way possible, of the stuff you ate when you were playing Zelda into the early morning. Cocktails are nerdy and themed, and vegan options available. Many games to choose from, and the atmosphere is relaxed.
A smaller venue for sure but the mixed drinks are solid and unique and the collection of authentic games/consoles are top notch. Ive been to dozens of similar venues and many have worn down controllers and half functional everdrives in every console. This is far closer to what you remember from your childhood and a genuinely nice way to burn thru an evening with friends. Also dont sleep on the food menu, theres some solid choices that are just as good sober as they are after a few hours with their cocktail menu.
I love this place be careful or the ladies will snag you back to there home but awesome selection of drinks and games great for drinkers great for gamers.
This place is outstanding! Best new bar Ive been to in years- excellent idea! Love it. Great game selection, friendly staff, and awesome hot dogs. Three cheers!
Fantastic little bar. Absolutely loved the decorations and atmosphere. Quick great service. If youre a 90s kid, or just a geek at heart, youll love this place.
First a foremost, I judge a place by their fries. Not only are their fries amazing but they also made them differently for me to fit my dietary restrictions. So they win for that reason alone.Bonus Points: Uh, Gaming. Bar. Done. Console gaming and ton of setups. The vibe is super chill and very welcoming, and theyve already had quite the assortment of cool events that dont break the vibe. The people who work here are also really kind and hella cute. Especially the cook, who does an exceptional job with the food. No disappointments so far. If you like barcades but want something less frantic, come here. They are currently my favorite out of all of them in town.
This place is an absolute treat! So many consoles and games to choose from, with a great selection of drinks and killer cocktails made by the awesome bartenders. Slushy cocktails that are delicious and change often. Also the bar attracts a pretty chill crowd who all have a love in playing games or watching others play. Everything about this bar has a lot of thought put into it from game setup to seating and couch arrangement. I have my favorite bars in Portland and RGB is 110% among those now.Dont forget to get the Mac and cheese hot dog, its exactly what it sounds like and everything you could possibly want.
I absolutely love this place!!
Fun bar for small or large group. Gaming is flat cheap fee with almost all retro systems available and with a great selection of games for each
I’m not very good at video games, so a bar like this where I don’t have to pay per game is nice! They just ask you spend a certain amount (very cheap) per hour you stay. There’s a ton of different systems and we had lots of fun. I do wish there was some kind of time limit per game.
The staff were super fast and friendly. I loved the variety of retro games they had! I wouldve liked more seating or a time limit for some of the games though
Went to this spot today for my boyfriend’s birthday and we had so much fun!!! we loved the selection of games and the fact that they’re all free is incredible. Really great beers on tap and the hot dog was so surprisingly delicious! Staff was super friendly and nice too. We’ll be back :)
Awesome bar with a great concept; drink beer and play retro video game consoles. Good tap selection, and prices are very reasonable considering you get free entertainment. They also have on weekends a brunch where its a cereal bar and is open to all ages. I recommend going here if youd like a blast to the past.
This place is amazing. Full stop. Want to relive your basement rec room glory days of N64? Want to get a taste of what all those late-30s video game freaks keep going on about they talk about Super Mario World? DO YOU WANT TO PLAY THE GRANDFATHER OF ALL RAIL SHOOTERS, PANZER DRAGOON ORTA, WHILE DRINKING A FINE TAP OREGON IPA, RIGHT AT THE BAR?Well then, get yourself to Retro Game Bar.
I had some food, played some games, met the owners and I loved everything! The staff was friendly, the selection was crazy and the drinks were fun and actually really good.
Friendly staff. Good drinks. Fun retro vibe w/ tons of game options. Looking forward to coming here again!
Cool little spot that I hadnt been to the vibe was cool oldschool games all around and drinks where great. Played super Mario world and loved it took me back to my childhood.
Awesome selection of retro games, CRT TVs and original carts. Drinks were great. Bring a friend and kick back to the golden days.
Awesome idea for a place to spend the day. I like the environment. Laid back. Old school portland. Just wish they had a few healthier options on the food menu
It was off to a good start, now they charge a cover regardless if you’re only having one drink and not playing games. I get it on a Friday or Saturday night, but come on. I used to love this place and told everyone about it, just a disappointment now. Service is usually pretty bad too. Food was less than alright. Not worth going back to.
Have to agree with the earlier review from Alyssa. I would really have loved to stick around here but the smell here tonight was so offensive that my friend and I drove all the way back home across town. I can’t think of another time I’ve experienced such a strong odor in a public indoor space that I couldn’t stand to be there. I will try to return another time and update this review.
Neat bar with lots of classic console systems to play. Feels like they are still working out exactly how the video games works, but still lots of fun, plus drinks, and fancy hot dogs, including vegan options. Go have a couple drinks and play some Mariokart and Sonic! Best on the off hours, when it isnt crowded and you have your pick of games.
I find the food selection a bit unsettling, but everything else is a good deal. Super cheap drinks, plus a variety of consoles to play. FYI the full range of tekken characters arent unlocked :(
Great spot with tons of your favorite old school games and consoles! Get your thumb exercises and those cheat codes ready!
Fun neighborhood bar with retro game consoles for the nostalgic and adventurous. The consoles are setup for group play while you sip drinks and eat snacks with friends or a date. There are game controllers at the bar seating that are connected to large screens for the uninhibited.
If im being frank I would have to say I relish their hot dogs.
So glad we found this place. Very cozy and fun. Great service as well. I played Tomb Raider II, Marble Madness, Super Mario Bros 3, Mario Cart, Croc, and Street Fighter 2!!! Highly recommend for a Classic Game lover!
This place is legit, it’s authentic and warm and the specialty drinks are awesome!
Every game of my childhood, AND BEER!? ABSOLUTELY
Super cool set up
Awesome. Ordering games is like ordering drinks or food. So cool. Much nostalgia. Homey atmosphere.
Love the concept! Played Mario Kart for hours, so many childhood memories.
A new fave local hangout! It was great playing Mario Kart again, and Joust, and Zombies Are My Neighbors, and MKII
The concept is cool, but the service was bad. We had the audacity to ask if there were any other cartridges for the Atari. The bar tender said Theyre all in a box. Maybe later Ill look through them. Sorry. For a place whose entire reputation is built on video games I am totally unimpressed.
Love the food drinks and all the games
Great game selection and the bar tender is awesome! 10/10 would go again
Amazing barcade!! Love the games and food. Perfect for a fun night out with friends!!
Awesome place! Nice employees
Based on the previous persons 5 star review I assumed this place was open, so I was super stoked. But I arrived to discover it was not in fact open yet. Which is confusing. Docked 1 star due to the fact that this place is not and has not ever been open. But seems like a rad idea.....
Great service and they had my two favorite Atari games, Frogger and Adventure.
Fun bar with many game consoles.
Food is underwhelming and the place feels too small. slushies were good thoe.
Rad Retro Respite. Great drinks, great prices! I highly recommend a few rounds of the Ocarina of Thyme cocktail coupled with some bar top brawls over super smash 64!
Great bar with an awesome gaming layout. Bartenders are friendly and the drinks are good!
I played Sunsetriders while drinking and an EVO replay was being projected behind me. Best bar in Portland.
Youre welcome thanks for such a great experience
This place is great if you want to grab a couple drinks and have unfettered access to any number of controllers for any console from Atari to GameCube. My wife brought us here shortly before I learned she had never played Mario Kart.
So fun. Even the dogs were tasty. Only reason they got 4. Is bc they needed more than hotdogs. But the sourkraut dog was fire
Great idea! and even the website is like the early 90s. There is nothing there but a splash page with the hours!
Awesome staff, all the fun games, great vibe, definitely a new hang out spot=} No video game bar like it.
The creativity and dedication to all the small details is amazing. Try the Bahn Mi dog, I ate 1, but should have ordered 2
Great game selection cheap food good happy hour friendly and fun environment
One of the best bars Ive ever been to
Welcoming staff, tons of awesome games.
Just opened right near my house and I couldnt be happier. A good beer selection, cocktails, and playable games even at the bar.
Just getting on their feet, but this place is great already, highly recommend!
Super fun place, showcasing the most fun parts of my childhood ^_^
Great place to unwind and bathe in some nostalgia.
People were complaining about the smell. I think it was those people that dont use deodorant.
I love Retro Game Bar. Its home away from home.
Walked in, it smelled TERRIBLE. It literally smelled like they mopped the floors with old milk. Couldn’t handle it, walked right out.
So many rad old games and game systems!
It was cool..needs better games
Will definitely be back!
Fun time with old games
Great time machine.
So fun!
Chill, great retro atmosphere, vegan snacks
Vegan gamers rejoice!
Great concept!
