I started exploring this forest preserve since the pandemic begun. Since then I come here at least 5x a week. I would have never gone here if the gyms didn’t close. This 839 acre forest preserve used to be a network of quarries which was filled with water. It is now a breeding location for wading birds, so half of the preserve is closed from March 1 to mid August. It is a beautiful place to jog, bike or walk in paved paths. There is an abundance of flora and fauna and breathtaking views if you are into photography. It has one clean restroom, three gazebos and about 4 benches if you need to rest. Sometimes I pack a lunch and enjoy the breeze and some music using my iphone earphones while I rest and hydrate. It is so peaceful and relaxing here, perfect place to have an alone time. Fishing is allowed year-round. People that work here and come here are friendly. I usually come alone and I feel safe here. I’ll keep coming until temperatures drop below 40, although I’m curious what this place looks like in winter.

Beautiful really nice atmosphere. Ive live in the Joliet area for 3 years but never been there. Im glad I found this place because it is really nice and clean with gazebos and restrooms. I took my nephew and dog they did not want to leave. Now I know where I can go fishing. Didnt have to walk far to get to the lake which is really a plus.

Very nice place. Good paved walking paths and can also walk on grass path or some shorter worn paths through woods. Saw over 20 swans today! A lot of people fish there too, but Ive never fished

Saw a good number of birds off season: two swans, two kingfishers, and one grebe. Love the nature paths. Hate that locals throw trash on the ground and in the water.

Great place for a run, or taking photographs of birds. There are egrets, herons, geese, and bald eagles hanging around the place. There is a really cool path that runs in between two lakes, but its only open later on the year (September, i believe) because of nesting, or mating seasons.

Nice place for a walk. 1.25 mile asphalt path going around Turtle Lake. A couple benches along the way to take a break or just relax. Go towards the east for more trail out to the prairie area if you want a longer walk. All the way around and back is 5 miles.

Bird watchers, walkers, runners, bikers...will all find this place appealing. Note that all areas are not open in all seasons, due to protection of the wildlife and their sensitive breeding times. A great array of birds have made this place home, such as egrets, herons, cormorants, and others. I even happened upon a large group of white pelicans here once, migrating through in the Spring.

The fishing is tough here because so many people try to fish here because it so local and most local ponds have stupid no fishing rules. For a nice evening walk with a friend or somewhere to take the dog for a walk and get some exercise its nice to see some wildlife running around as you walk or run the lake.

This preserve is full of marshy lands. I went there for bird photography. This is good place specially in spring migration. It is not heavily crowded and have good trails around. For fishing enthusiast, it has separate lake section for fishing. In all, good place to have morning walk. This preserve has limited biking space though.

Always a great fishing stop, whether I catch anything or not. Beautiful scenery and a large enough lake to see plenty of wildlife. Please catch and release for conservation!Wal-Mart is only a few miles away, if fishing get your license renewed. $15 beats a $50 to $200 fine. I see DNR here often.I have walked the path a time or two, very clean besides for the obvious duck droppings. Pleasant, scenic walk.

Great place to take a walk, bike, or run. The new bike path is a pleasure, although it still has a slight tilt in one area, making it rough on the joints. The only negative is the extreme amount if goose poop all over the path. Now, it has been joined with small quantities of assumed dog poop! Not good for the running shoes!!

This forest preserve is beautiful and well maintained.I hate giving it a bad review, but someone broke into my car while I was on a trail in the forest preserve and I want to make others aware. It was done in a sophisticated way where I was clearly targeted by someone lurking in the parking lot who broke into my car the moment I was gone and immediately went to Joliet to start using my credit cards. Before I had even completed my 20 minute walk and made it back to my car, I had already received a call from one credit card company about fraudulent charges and cancelled that card, only to find out that they had also attempted several other charges on several other cards in that time. The timing was so precise--they were waiting for a victim. Be alert and dont leave anything important in your car!
