Great hiking for all levels. Mountain biking the trails are narrow with hikers which is not the best. Very family friends, they do ha e bathrooms, no water fountains at all. Also high levels of wildlife meaning rattlesnakes everyday. I hike it every single day and there are enty of them,so walk in the middle of the path. Anyways, great place, opens at 5 and closes at 7. Make it a great day folks.
Excellent place, got to be there as I had opted for hot air balloon ride. Very calm and peaceful experience, got to say very well maintained and cleaned. There are huge cactus plants which seem ages old can be found in here.Absolute treat to watch them so close and the combination with Hot Air balloon ride made it 5 star experience
Beautiful well thought out bike path.
Its my favorite Fall hike. Best to take during the week. Its highly traveled unlike in the old days before a parking lot!
One of my favorite places to mtn bike in the valley. Trailhead has a restroom now and trails are still in good shape. Always crowed with hikers at least near the parking lot so be prepared for that. Also a great place to hike and some nice vistas. Really great place definitely worth a visit or two.
I hiked 4 miles on the Dixie Loop Trail which was littered with beautiful wildflowers like lupine last Sunday. I am convinced the weather gods were looking down on me. Please take a break from the regularly scheduled depressing news and enjoy our local hiking trails. It’s easy to practice social distancing and it’s fun.
Great park and place to get in a hike, run, bike or roller blade. The concrete path is perfectly laid and clean, with great desert views.
Fun mountain biking trails, but no real shade unless you go in the morning. And I would go in the morning; it gets real hot real quick. Trails are a good workout, with ups and downs and turns. Lots of loose rocks make for a bumpy ride. Watch for hikers! I found everyone I encountered polite and friendly so lets keep it that way! :) Bring lots of water and be prepared to sweat! There are a few parking lots at various places. I rode in from the neighborhood nearby. Trails are marked as well. Nice views from the higher parts. We saw ballooners one day! Watch for rabbits and lizards as well. And cactus. Lots of cactus. There are some shorter loops that are kid-friendly.
This is a wonderful place to go in the spring, especially after it rains. The yellow wild flowers are amazing! They have several hiking trails that I have taken my children on. Also, there is a bike trail/sidewalk that is about 5 miles long. You can walk or ride it. There are public facilities, that we found to be kept clean.
Side walks and trails. Great spot to hike with the fam or get the trail bike out
Great trails for mountain bike apache wash
It was a great time. The trails were clean and had enough challenge to make for a wonderful morning without being too difficult to be painful. We did about 7 miles in a little over 2 hours.
This is a really great place to hike/run also for people who mountain bike. Trails are rocky and have variables of inclines. Would definitely recommend to any one.
Lots of great trails through lots of diverse desert. Many choices of trails and there are some hills/mountains to hike as well. The trails seem to be in pretty good condition. Along the Verde trail there is a great stance of saguaros.
A 3 mile walk I like is Sidewinder Trail to Apache Vista, up and back, then coming back via Apache Wash
Huge day-use city park with 36 miles of trails at all difficulty levels. Water and restrooms at free trailhead parking (Desert Vista). Detailed trail map at parking area as well. Great views, not very crowded. Best in the cool season, as there is little to no shade anywhere. Suitable for hiking, mountain biking, trail-running, or just meandering through the Sonoran desert without having to worry about getting lost, as there are trail markers everywhere with your exact GPS coordinates.
No parking to Stargaze. pulled over to take pictures and almost got side Swiped. I enjoy the night sky but they dont offer any place to enjoy it.
Beautiful desert location for a sunset view. There are trails on which you could go for a walk or a run There could be rattle snakes so PL be careful in the evening s. Non motored bikes are permitted.
Good trails. Not as busy as Apache Wash. They have a water station to refill ur bottles n restrooms. Closes at 5 pm.
Great place to MTB! Several trail loops from beginner to black diamond. This area is less rocky than others in the area since it is located around two washes that have swishy, sandy trails with occasion water crossings.Weekdays have the least trail traffic and the weekends have medium traffic. Some others in the area cant even be ridden due to hikers.
Took a hot air balloon ride complete with a gourmet champagne breakfast after we landed through Hot Air Expeditions. Experience was amazing!
Trails are well maintained and signed, facilities are clean, and, most importantly, the views are great. Try arranging a hike so youre coming down the hill to the parking lot around sunset, if youre comfortable hiking when it is getting darker- very nice views.
A lot of fun but trails are basic so wear proper shoes!
TONS of great trails for every skill level!!!! The trails are well kept. Parking is ample. Bring your own hand sanitizer as the bathroom does not have running water. That being said bring LOTS of water.
The preserve is a wonderful hiking and wildlife refuge area. It has a nature walk which is easily accessible and informative about the plants and animals that live in the preserve. You can walk, hike, mountain bike or on the many trails through the area that is part of the larger Phoenix trail system. A most enjoyable place to contemplate and enjoy the sounds of nature.
Great place to go hiking. They have a restroom but they dont have a place to fill up on water so be sure to bring all your own water!
Took a long walk to Sonora mountain preserve, due to recent rains, the forest was blooming. It was beautiful.
Really nice hiking place with a handful of trails to choose from. Parking lot isnt the biggest.
This is a really gorgeous nature park outisde of phoenix, with just a few minute walk you can feel like youre in untouched desert and really appreciate the beauty of the american southwest. Trails are well maintained and the map is easy to read. There is a variety of difficulties and distances for all levels of hiker. Dont forget to bring water!
This is just about the most peaceful Saturday morning walk anyone could ask for. Beautiful backdrops, plenty of parking, a restroom at the parking lot, perfect for the family. As you walk you get to see a lot of the beautiful native vegetation as you ascend the path. The path is not overly difficult, kids can do just fine on it, beyond toddler sized.Go and enjoy the walk folks, its worth the visit.
Bike ride in the desert. Calm and peaceful.
Such a beautiful area. It was an afternoon well spent
Wonderful city escape. Here for work but was able to get out after a meeting and hike Opted for the 3.8 mile loop with a few summit Spurs. Was beautiful and felt a lot more remote than it is.
Great trails for all ages. Clean restrooms at the trailhead. There are no paper maps but you are able to snap a photo of the trails to look at if you need to.
Love the hike there!
A perfect stop on our way back home!
So beautiful on this Sunday morning here in the valley of the sun!
There are a few different trails to choose from and a few different summits so it makes it easy to customize a route suitable for you. I suggest using a hiking app to do so. Otherwise, the trails are pretty easy to follow. The air is nice, the views are great, and the trails offer the perfect amount of distance to get a good workout in without having to worry that youre gonna get turned around and end up doing a 12 mile hike. Watch out for rattle snakes. I seem to see more here than any of the other areas I frequent (ie Spur Cross, McDowell Mountains, and the Phoenix Mountains). Thats my personal experience, however. Bathrooms and running water at the trailhead so thats always a plus.
I loved this place. Great place to hike and see the spring foilage. Great nature center, as well.
A good hike with great views. A nice place to get away from the city and enjoy nature.
I still can not get over the ever changing beauty
One of my favorite places to hike. Trails are nice and they have a bathroom.
Phenomenal landscape and views! Seen my 1st rattlesnake this season, just about 30-36 in length crossing the trail. Trails are rocky which I dont mind but I know some are sensitive of. Parking lot was full when I was leaving at 9:45am so ppl were searching for spaces.
Great trails! Excellent for walking or mountain biking.
Great create your own loop system
Great place to enjoy easy to moderate hiking trails. Beautiful North Phoenix Arizona scenery
Really great scenery and from easy to hard trail systems. Also lots of wildlife and plants to observe. Bring plenty of water and a camera.
Nice place to stop and get some pics with the giant cacti if youre near Phoenix however they arent growing as densly as the amounts youll see on the side of the highway but its a convenient place to park and theres a restroom too. Bring lots of water if you plan on meandering around out here. Theres walking trails and we saw some people on mountain bikes as well.
There were gorgeous views and the sunrise was gorgeous! Although if youre looking for a more challenging hike, this would not be the place.
Great parking and restroom area. Trails are marked clearly. Lots of trail options
Fantastic place for some peace, hiking, biking....beautiful landscapes, long biking trails. Must visit place.
This is a wonderful place to visit while in Phoenix if you want to experience the Sonoran desert in all of its glory. There are hiking/mountain biking/horse trails covering a huge expanse of varied terrain. Parking at the Apache Wash trailhead is plentiful. There are bathrooms, but make sure to bring plenty of water as there is no drinkable water available here.
This is my favorite place to hike, bunch of hiking trails around. With so many trails it can be little confusing so i kept the All Trails open just incase, most of them are easy with no steep, palnts and flowers around in march/april. The trial head has parking though does not seems enough. I would recommend to go hike once. You will like it.
Beautiful place for a hike! The views are great, and the trails a great workout, especially if you run them.
Fun place to hike. Very quiet, some friendly mountain bikers, great views. Great choice of hikes to choose from, as easy or hard as you like it. When it rains a lot, it really brings the desert to life.
A beautiful local hiking spot with marvelous views. If you go around dusk, you may get to see hot air balloon flights. There are toilets, rather holes in the ground with a seat, but I dont imagine they get cleaned often, so bring hand sanitizer as there are no sinks. Also make sure to bring plenty of water as there are no fountains.Lots of cyclists and runners. Okay for kids- not too steep.
One of my favorite hiking spots in the Greater Phoenix Area. It features a trail system with lots of trails, ranging from ones with very little elevation gains to others that can give one a decent workout. Paths are in good shape and adequate for hiking and cycling. At the time of this writing there is an owls nest with nesting birds on the E trail (off of the AW trail).
Phoenix Sonoran Preserve is a nice area to hike. Its popular with walkers, mountain bikers and equestrians. There is a good big parking lot at the base, and even a restroom (with toilet, was informed theres no sink). Taking the ocotillo trail out then reconnecting with the sidewinder trail to return, we hiked 4.3 miles and supposedly climbed/descended 22 stories. It was scenic and mostly pleasant--parts are loose-ish rock and most of the way is very dusty. Most people on the trail were happy and helpful, although a couple of bikers came downhill around blind corners pretty fast so be on your toes. Didnt see the horses but just what they leave behind so watch for that too. It was pleasant but still warm in later October. Bring extra water and be alert for snakes (I didnt see any).
The facilities at the trail base were clean and well kept. The trails are well marked and easily accessible with amazing views. We felt safe here with access to a cell signal on all trails, in case of an emergency.
If you want to go star gazing I suggest this place.
The preserve is divided into 3 trailheads: Desert Vista, Desert Hills, and Apache Wash. All 3 provide great hiking paths and beautiful views of the North Phoenix desert. I took my German Shepherd in early April, and it was a little warm, so make sure to take lots of water! The preserve is fairly large, so I recommend downloading the Avem app, it will help you find each trailhead, restrooms, and drinking fountains, and even gives you the option to view the Phoenix Sonoran Preserve map. Have fun out there and stay safe!
Its a nice walk through a quiet desert setting.
Plenty of room to unwind and be kind to nature. Good accommodations and cell reception. Great views and decent trails! I love it!
Always majestic. Great for walks, biking, or just catching a sunset.
This is a wonderful park to hike, ride bikes and equestrians and has a restroom. Beautiful scenery with easy trails and lots of wildlife.
Best kept secret! Going to be a sad day if it loses its federal status and becomes another master planned community
Great little hike - watch out for snakes and bees
What a beautiful desert vista. Just drive along Dove Valley Road and you will agree. It doesnt matter which direction you travel, the preserve is captivating. Its hard to believe that the expanse of the Valley Metro is just over the hill to the south. Morning travel promises views of hot air balloons .
Very beautiful and lots of hiking and mountain biking!
Great dessert views. We were directed here for a kid friendly hiking experience. We didnt find anything that was stroller accessible. Eventually we just decided to go for it and made the MTB trails work for a short hike. Lots of cacti varieties. Totally do able for little hikers. Bring a back/front carrier for children under 3 and you will be all set. So many terrific photo ops!
This is one of my favorite places to train and hike locally. Little crowed now on the weekends but great for weekdays
Nice nature preserve to do a little lite hiking or trail running. Trails are clearly marked and well maintained. Clean bathrooms and water available at trailhead.
Such a beautiful place. Weather was just right.
Expansive view over Verde Valley. Landslide trail is 4 miles in and out, lots of information, moderate to easy. Nice geology.
Beautiful area with vistas of the Sonoran Desert. The trails are well maintained and appropriate for all levels of hikers.
Its the best place to hike or to jog, beautiful and so calm, I love it.
Really cool place to go hiking, biking and horseback riding. Beautiful scenery!
Hiked here for a little while. Quiet and peaceful. Serene. Beautiful.
Well kept trail. Beautiful scenery
Great for any season. Just enough distance from the city that you don’t can’t the sounds but all of the views.
Beautiful spot, very close to our hotel. Nice to be able to get a hike in when youre on the road. Plenty of trail options and a nicely outfitted trailhead.
Excellent tails with options to go easy, moderate, or hard. A road runner from Chicago and these trails gave me just the amount of difficulty I needed. A most try for visitors looking to try something different. The views are pretty amazing at least for a city boy like me.
Nice place to hike, in desert beauty.
Gr8 place!! Good mountain bike trails!!
The Phoenix Sonoran Preserve is an awesome place to hike or bike. Plenty of trail selection for all skill levels, including easy trails for kids. Most of the trails can be lengthened by combining loops to make a full day out of them. Easy access and plenty of parking, as well as several great restaurants nearby.
Great trails and nice views. Nice place to go to run or walk the trails and also mountain bike. Shade comes in the later part of the day about sunset time. This is the desert with beautiful desert cacti. Saguaros stand tall.
Nice location for a hike. Not too far from home. Flowers are just starting to bloom.
We’ve been going to the Dessert Hills Trailhead. There’s plenty of parking and great access to short and long hiking trails.
Great hiking/biking trails through the desert. All trails well kept and highly marked.
I cant say Ive been on a gazillion hiking trails, but I can definitely say out of all the ones Ive been on, this trail head has to be one of the cleanest in the valley. Free of liter, great views, pet friendly trails. What more could you want? Parking hasnt been a problem any time Ive went as well.
Great place for hiking and mountain biking. Love ocotillo on a bike. Beautiful views. If you go in the summer bring lots and lots of water and go early. Theres no shade.
Nice trail in my neighborhood.
The walk is a nice one, better if it is shared with someone you like walking with. :)N
Beautifully marked trails and nice restrooms.
Amazing! Great trIlz, friendly people wonderful way to experience Gods glory
Good hike.
Great place for short hikes
Great place for some activity, not much traffic
Live close by and one of my favorite places in Phoenix. There is a reason why all the hot air balloons come over the area. Just wish people would slow down on Dove Valley/Sonoran Desert Drive. Its out of hand and there are so many cyclists and pedestrians who ride/walk along there.
