This is a very beautiful and historic Roman Catholic Church in Philadelphia. I came here for mass when I was visiting Philadelphia, and I found the church to be absolutely stunning and definitely worth a visit. The priest here if you have a great homily as well. Most importantly, the church feels like it is air-conditioned and cool even when it is very hot outside.
Ive been in alot of churches over the years being a life long Philadelphia irish Catholic parishioner but this cathedral will take your breath away im so proud of the fact my daughter gets to be apart of this church being a senior at John W Hallahan Catholic girls highschool. #Classof2021
What can I say? This church is magnificent. Grand and appropriate. A beautiful representation of the Catholic faith. One of my closest friends recently was married there as well.Once you walk through those doors, you will feel the presence of the holy spirit. Whether you believe in God or not, the architecture and craftsmanship will leave you at awe.
Ive been coming to this church since I was a child and Ill always come to this church because Im more comfortable here then anywhere else
Wonderful experience! You can do a self guided tour or seek out one of the volunteers. Santos was exceptional in telling use the history and showing us some things that were not on the self guided tour. The building is nearly all white marble so it was a bit chilly inside. So many nationalities are represented here. The enormity of it all makes one feel quite small and humble. NO admission charge; come explore and pray in quiet solitude. Extraordinary!
This is one of the great Cathedral Basilicas of the East Coast. Even if youre not a Catholic you will want to come in and quietly take in the great work of mid 19th c. craftsmen and artists. It took almost 20 years to build. They dont build them like this any more.Pope Frances celebrated Mass here in September 2015.We were here for an evening High Latin Mass and then stayed right across the street at the Hilton. All Are Welcome in This Place
I absolutely love this church. Its truly a master work of art. The high walls n the altar, the chapel everything is just so beautiful and looks so divine. The essence when you get inside the church itself makes it feel heavenly. The church is on my way to college and whenever I feel low and sad I try to go to this church and just sit there. It just feels so peaceful and calm.
Beautiful Basilica in downtown Philly. The entire interior is breathtaking. I went to Mass here which was very prayerful and beautiful. There is not too much traffic or noise, so you can really go to this church to find silence and solitude with God. Churches are supposed to be beautiful sacred spaces like this one.
Clean looking crowd, and interesting sermon by priest.
My daughter got married on 7-11-2020 there beautiful church if you are able vist
St. Peter’s basilica was, without a doubt, the most impressive piece of architecture I’ve ever seen.Visiting St Peters on a Saturday evening, I was lucky enough to be in the Basilica for one of the masses. Everything that you have learned in school is right there in front of your eyes, and it is more beautiful in person.
This is the most amazing and incredible architecture in Philadelphia. When you enter the Basilica is like you are in the another world. Its breathtakingly beautiful. It soothe your sorrows and transport you to another place. It feels like you are in heaven. A place of refuge from all the hassles and noise outside the city. You have to go visit and spend some time learning and meditating. I was moved and came out feel like a new person. You can also have a confession too. A must see when you are in Philly.
This is a very beautiful church, both outside and inside! Even if youre not here to worship, the interior is very striking and grand.
Called to see if they had any ideas about helping some local elderly be able to get to Mass during the week. They were absolutely no help, and just uninterested. This is why people are moving away from the church. This church had a homily only a few weeks ago matthew 5:42. I guess they dont practice what they preach. I will find another church and my weekly tithing will go with me.
On special days such as December 24, theres only one place where I want to attend mass: the Cathedral. Theres a group of musicians, a cantor and a choir, and the place is decorated nicely. Christmas Eve mass at the Cathedral is beautiful! Christ is born! Merry Christmas!
I was here for a wedding and it was the most beautiful U.S. church I have ever been in. The architecture and craftsmanship rival churches and basilica in Europe. The building is large and can easily fit a few thousand people. I highly recommend visiting even if you arent religious.
Im Catholic and I and my wife we love to visit different churchs and the cathedral of Saint Peter and Saint Paul is amazing church with rich history .
Amazing, beautiful, holy cathedral. A cathedral in the old sense with vaulted ceilings, statues, and a long history. I nice gentleman was on staff to answer questions. A beautiful and quiet spot in the middle of the busting city.
Its just perfect from outside to every single detail on it.
Beautiful cathedral, reminds me of what you would see all over Europe.
Recently was married here. If you want a beautiful wedding with minimal decorations I would choose this spot. Everything worked out perfectly and we were super impressed.
This was my church fo many, many years. And I sang in the choir too . I studied at Cathedral School from first grade all the way up to Hollahand High School for girls.
Came for Catechetical Sunday. Everything is beautiful and everyone is welcoming. A great place to be with the LORD and hear his special message to each one of us.
Amazing Cathedral! What you might expect to see in any city in Europe. My wife and I were given a wonderful tour by Santos (hope Im remembering the name correctly). He was a fountain of knowledge and information about the church and events surrounding it. Hope we might meet again, and as recommend, we will try and visit again on the 11th of December, after we return from our trip. Thank you for your time and attention!
Beautiful church, smack dab in the middle of Center City. A peaceful place, with beautiful sacred images, and soon to be the resting place of St. Katherine Drexel.
Magnificent cathedral with possibly the most pristine interior I have seen in a long time. Breathtakingly beautiful and opulent.
What an amazing sight to see and able to attend Mass.Very glad to be able to see this cathedral on our visit.
Beautiful church and nice side chapel in downtown Philadelphia.
A beautiful monument to architecture and art. This Basilica is stunning, especially when you realize construction started before the civil war!!! This is the only Basilica in Corinthian style you will find this side of the ocean. Its a must see whether you are on team Jesus or not!!
Wow!! This is my first time going there. The Cathedral is beautiful. The program was awesome. Celebrating with Black Catholics from around the region.
It was amazing
Magnificent Church. Very peaceful. Must visit.
A beautiful church in the middle of the city. When entering its silent and peaceful. So worth the visit to pray. Just put your cameras down and cell phones and allow for the peace of Christ present to speak to your heart.
Beautiful and well maintained church. Surrounded by popular attractions of the city, this is worth visiting for the architecture alone, if not for religious purposes.
Nice church to visit, but I think it looks quite similar to the St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.
Feel the spirit. Take in the arts. Appreciate the history. ️
Gorgeous cathedral of the Roman Rite Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
What a beautiful historic building/landmark in Center City, Philadelphia. Love the architecture. It is beautiful inside the cathedral. Well maintained. I also love the Amor sign right across street from the cathedral. Totally a good photo opportunity spot!!
Beautiful architecture, worth a visit for services or even a walk-by to see the exterior.
Very Roman Catholic basilica. Forgive, but I am from the NYC area and this is not a St. Patricks cathedral. That said, it is a beautiful cathedral, very traditional, excellent statuary in a style no longer to be found, and some exceptional stained glass that I could literally spend a day examining. If you appreciate classic religious style, this is the best you will find in Philly.
Beautiful place for a wedding. Very large inside and decor was awesome
I like it for the value of finding peace in a rather hectic and bustling city. Im not nearly as religious as I once was, but to sit inside of this gorgeously built cathedral from 1860 and feel better than when I did at arrival; its worth it. Mass schedules should be attached to the Google search.
Amazing church. So beautiful.
A beautiful and peaceful church. I wonder how they can keep this historical church without correcting any entry fee.
Its a breath taking cathedral! Definitely worth sticking your head in if youre in the area.
My daughter & son in-law were married in the cathedral basilica 8 years ago in a devout ceremony. Today they are happily married with three beautiful children and live in beautiful home near family and friends.
A quiet place to reflect and pray for sure. You can also walk about the cathedral looking at the different altarpieces, memorial plaques, etc. Theres even a shop off the right side where you can check out and buy jewelry, statuettes, etc. You may also get to go to mass during the week in the chapel, or in the cathedral itself on Sundays. They also provide guided tours during the week, contact the cathedral for more info.
Beautiful church. Very large inside. Some repair work was being completed while there. Stain glass windows and side alters were worth viewing.
Beautiful Cathedral! We can feel really happy visiting this place since the inside is just very beautiful! I have not attend a mass but I can already say it is a great experience.
I went for Spanish mass at 12 :30 pm
I understand that reviewing a church is a rather odd thing. However I am a bit of a history buff and this is one of those have to stop in to see type places. I dont really care what religion or creed you come from, you still have to accept the architecture and beauty mixed with the history of this church.
A beautiful piece of Catholic architecture. It is the heart of Catholic Philadelphia, so important that The Parkway was re-routed around it.
Ornate, beautiful, vast church - smelled good, too.
Very peaceful place to visit. The artwork and ambiance are very nice. Entry is free and open during the day. I would spend a good amount of time to explore the place and see what it has to offer.
Incredible and awe inspiring! It’s free to go inside, and a must see if visiting philly! Those inside are helpful and willing to answer questions.
Outstanding and inspirational experience! Absolutely beautiful inside and out, highly recommend a visit
Beautiful and peaceful...except the cashier in the gift shop has the nastiest attitude
Beautiful cathedral! Must visit and take part in a mass for the full experience
Beautiful structure, but the dates must be wrong...how did the pioneers of this confused country show up on boats riding horse and carriage and construct this building?
Exquisite beauty and architecture! Went with the family during our stay in philly. If your in town seeing the sights dont miss it.
Absolutely beautiful cathedral! We got a personal tour from the man who worked there. He was full of so much information! A must see if youre in the area!
Historically the venue, American declaration of independence was signed, Spiritually, a dwelling of the Spirit of God, an architectural masterpiece, befitting of praise to God.
The most beautiful church I have ever been in.
I briefly walked in here on a trip to Philadelphia. This is a beautiful cathedral!
Absolutely stunning. Beautiful inside and out and sits next to the beautiful fountain on the Parkway. Small shop is open on Wednesdays. The ushers are extremely friendly and will take the time to tell you all youd like to know about the Basilica. Not overly packed with tourists or sightseers during the day.
Disappointed that anyone would be kicked out of Gods house. Unless someone is disrupting by form of some sort chaos this should not happen. Cause some guy in a robe comes and sits inside front row should not matter
Gorgeous. Serene. Peaceful.
On the stretch of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Center City (The Downtown District). Nice welcoming church. When its cold out come inside for a warm prayer and/or for a mass service. And also when its hot out come inside for a cool prayer and/or for mass service. They use to have a really nice Bishop, Charles Joseph Chaput OFMCap. He was really cool. Now they have a new Bishop Nelson Jesus Perez.People there are welcoming at this Parish.
A Beautiful experience! Praise the Lord! The Rector exemplifies Christ! + Mass was truly an encounter with Christ! +
This is a very beautiful cathedral. Its well maintained and was a great cool down from the hot weather outside. Its surprising what kind of architecture can be be found eventhough Im sure the cathedral isnt extremely old like many European ones are.
Not catholic but a gorgeous cathedral that everyone should see.
Amazing architecture. One of the top Catholic Cathedrals Ive visited in ther US
Beautiful and Breathtaking!
Its so big and beautiful. I lost count of how many times Ive been there. From the moment I walk in I always feel peace. I love going there.
Beautiful cathedral.
Love the Archbishop Chaput. Beautiful Basilica. Love being a Catholic
Fantastic Cathedral! Bring a smartphone and use headphones for a great virtual tour.Celebrated feast of the Assumption here today. Beautiful Liturgy and Music. No insense :(
Beautiful Catholic church. There are cameras in different places so you will not miss a event. Handicap accessible
Beautiful church and friendly, knowledgeable staff
Beautiful Cathedral Basilica!!
An absolutely beautiful historic building built in 1864 even if you do not worship. Recommend stopping by.
Impressive. Im always impressed with this kind of architecture and the skill needed to design and build a huge building like this. It is a place for religious reflection... Like OMG how much it must cost to take care of this place or more godly and heartfelt thoughts and prayers for loved ones or lost souls.
Gorgeous cathedral. Our tour guide was friendly
Very prayerful community, rich art work, and caring clergy.
The Tridentine Latin Mass at 7pm on the main holy days is magnificent. Check the Cathedral Bulletin to be sure there will be one confirmed. You wont want to miss this. Also, Bishop Chaput says mass and hears confessions on Sundays at 6:30 pm. Definitely worthwhile.
So incredibly beautiful and a blessed surprise for me and my two children. We were site seeing in Philly and wanted to stop in the basilica to offer intentions and stumbled upon a Latin Mass with a Capella singing. We felt like angels were singing for us.
If you are Philadelphia, be sure to stop here! The cathedral is a work of art! Be sure to venture into the sanctuary and look up to the see the magnificent dome! There are daily mass times and ample opportunities for confession. There is a small gift shop, just be sure to check the hours.
Absolutely breathtaking...
Beautiful Church inside and out. I love going into old churches and seeing how beautiful they truly are.
One of the most beautiful basilicas with beautiful stained glass, large sculptures, and amazing architecture. The outside is deceivingly plain but the inside is something that stirs the soul. A must see for those who visits churches or for anyone!
Beautiful place. We really enjoy going to concerts there. We just saw a performance by the Univ. of Pennsylvania Glee Club. Spectacular!!
A beautiful cathedral on the parkway. Its generally open and you can visit to see the architecture and artwork while remaining quiet and respectful. Id highly recommend stopping in quickly to see it if youre in the area.
A Beautiful St Martin DePorre Memorial Mass...Great Singing!
This is my church but besides that its Beautiful inside! Im not gonna say nothing else except You need to visit this place if your visiting or live here. The Church is Amazing inside!
