What a great unique place. Yes they care for unwanted and abandoned birds. And this might sound corny, but the nice man who was helping us, Reed, made our visit very special. If you are in the area and want to spend an hour or so in a very unique environment with some beautiful birds and super nice people, check this place out.
Unwanted birds lovingly cared for. This sanctuary cares for exotic birds that cant be taken care of by their owners. They have 150+ birds including two Emus and four Peacocks. You can spend as much time wandering the park and you can even feed some of the birds. The fees go to the care of these beautiful creatures.
We were greeted by a very friendly, enthusiastic guy. He made us excited to see the birds. We were each given a cup of food to feed the birds, shown how to feed the birds, and warned that some birds do bite. We were careful so we didnt have any problems. It was a lot of fun and our son loved it! Would definitely recommend checking it out.
What can I say? If you come to Pensacola, this is where you need to go. I have never interacted with so many friendly and beautiful birds. The staff is great and answers all of your questions. We even hand fed a peacock. If you want to have warm fuzzies, and a warm feeling in your heart, visit this place.
While on vacation I was missing my birds, and visiting Uncle Sandys Macaw Park was the perfect antidote and one of the highlights of our trip. The volunteers were very friendly and informative, and we were given cups of treats to feed the birds. It was nice to see birds in outdoors enclosures with room to fly around. The admission fee is low, $5 per person at our visit, but it is entirely volunteer run, and all of the money goes to support the birds. We gave $50, and they were extremely appreciative. I would highly recommend this place if you are curious about parrots or are looking for to adopt one.
Love this place! Staff was very friendly. When we first got there we were unsure about going in because of the appearance on the outside but we still decided to try it out. We are happy we went. $5 for an adult and a cup of food each is an awesome deal especially if you are looking to do something to do on a budget. Just listen to the guides to not get close to the birds mouth if you dont want to get nipped and WEAR BUG SPRAY. We didnt think to even spray ourselves and had at least 10-15 bites on our legs.
My entire family (teenagers included) loved the Bird Park. Included with the $5 admission is a cup of snacks to feed the birds while you stroll around. All the birds have names on their enclosures and some of them talk to you. The peacocks are not in cages and walk around fanning their feathers. The staff was above and beyond helpful and we learned a lot about birds while there. I highly recommend.
This is the best place in Pensacola to take your kids to have an up-close experience with birds of all kinds. Admission is only $5 for adults $2 for kids and 6 and under are free. Your admission also includes a small pale of treats you can share with the birds. We spent over 2 hours and enjoyed every minute of it. Uncle Sandys is definitely on the top of our fun things to do list in Pensacola!
Great place to visit. We stopped by to see the birds. Had a great time talking and feeding the birds. Learned alot about their eating habits. Never thought birds would like noodles.
It was a great place to take the kids. It was under 20 dollars for 3 adults and 3 children! The staff was friendly and welcoming. I definitely recommend this place if you love exotic animals!
Birds, birds, birds. A nice visit when leaving Pensacola for our bird-loving travelers. Enjoyed that we could feed the many birds. Do put on bug spray that is available at entrance.
Great bird garden. Beautiful birds all around. Got to see a turkey up close and personal. Just seeing the rescue that is going on here is amazing. Cheap attraction for kids to experience as well. Staff is superb friendly and knowledgeable on the various birds living here. Walking and feeding is entertaining as the various parrots and macaws react differently to you.
Great place to visit that brings awareness to rescuing the beautiful birds. The best part was being able to feed these amazing creatures.
Amazing collection of birds that have so much personality and character it will be nearly impossible to leave. We showed up late, but the man working (Reed) was so incredibly nice that he stayed open for an extra hour, let us hold the birds, and showed us which ones do some interesting tricks (I wont spoil it!). Its very clear that the people who run this love birds and they make sure youll love them too after you leave! Wonderful experience...I highly recommend this to bird lovers, families, or anyone who wants a unique experience with birds!
Amazing experience for adult and childrenI definitely recommend visiting if you havent already. We were even able to feed the birds with the food provided with the admission fee. The most amazing part was the two beautiful peacocks walking around freely
Nice to roam the grounds and see all the rescue birds. Talking with all the volunteers. About how much they love all the feathered friends there.
Great people and wonderful place! The birds here are so amazing
This place is brilliant, didnt think I would like it as I am not really a bird person. I was very impressed by the dedication of the volunteers and how the birds are cared for, I loved feeding the emus and feeding them. Follow the instructions and you will escape being bitten. For $5 per adult it is great value for money I would though encourage you to donate a bit more if you can but it is not expected, give it try you will not be disappointed
A hidden gem near Pensacola! Weve enjoyed our stay at Bird Park! Birds are awesome! Some of them speak and play with visitors.
Great place! The price of admission isnt expensive at all and all of the money goes towards taking care of the birds as only volunteers work there. The price also includes a little bucket of food. Feeding the birds makes the experience that much more fun. A volunteer shows you how to feed the birds properly so you dont get anything bit off. :-) Its a small place but packed with plenty of birds to see - even emus and peacocks. The mosquitoes were a bit of a problem but only if you stood still for too long. They did offer us bug spray so that was nice. We did bring our own spray because people mentioned that in previous reviews. Would visit again!
So glad we visited! Our favorite was the Emus! Staff was so nice and the guy who does the intro and instructions was so so so pleasant! I would recommend to anyone in the area!
We went for the second time today and took some family with us! We have lived here our entire lives and never even knew this place was here. Now we tell everyone about it. Its truly a gem of a place to visit. The caretakers are knowledgable and make sure your visit is safe for the birds and you. I highly recommend visiting this place and for $5 an adult, with kids under six being free, you really cant beat it. Its a good time, anytime your looking for something to do!
We missed the entrance when driving and weren’t sure what to expect when we first saw the property. All of our expectation were exceeded! This was an amazing experience. We were greeted by Reed in the office who introduced us to two birds and taught us about the birds on the property. We felt like our time in the office alone would have been worth the cost. The birds were interactive and beautiful. You can really tell that Reed and the rest of the staff know and care for these birds. Some of the birds were a bit spooked by my niece’s stroller but eventually most of them warmed up to it and still ate food from her or her mom. The emus are a bit feisty but don’t worry, they don’t hurt you. We didn’t get a chance to feed any peacocks, but they were viewable. Oh and don’t be too creeped out by any birds creepy laughs. They are quite talkative.
We loved visiting here. The birds were great entertainment at a very reasonable price, and you can feed the birds, even emus and peacocks. Many birds talk and laugh. Its a fun time for the whole family. Even babies will enjoy it. Just be sure to keep your fingers away from the cages!
Loved feeding the birds and seeing them up close! The birds are hilarious, beautiful creatures. I’ve lived in Pensacola pretty much my whole life and never knew this was here. We had a blast and spent a good hour here and could’ve spent more.
An ex-military guy started to take in rescue birds and it has grown into a large sanctuary. The sanctuary has a tax status of a 501 non-profit. The birds are gorgeous and they can out live their owners, which is why some of the birds are there. Other birds are there because their owners became disinterested. We were given about a cup of fruit and nuts and instructions on how to feed the birds so that they wouldn’t accidentally bite us. The staff is all volunteers and you can tell that they really love the birds and there job. It was a fun thing to do. I suggest going in the morning when the birds are hungry. The park is living on the edge of financially surviving so in addition to the $5.00 for the cup of food, there is a donation box.
We weren’t sure when we drove up but were so glad we stayed and went in. The family that runs this are very kind and informative. We had a great time feeding all the birds and would go back again. We came all the way from Spokane Wa! The birds are well taken care of.
Always such a fun experience to spend time with these amazing animals.
My husband and I took our one year old and we LOVED it!! So many neat birds to visit. $5 admission was great. Got us both a cup of food to feed the birds and spent as long as we wanted in the back. Worth every minute!! Such a great experience!
I visited once during the summer to grab some photos. Some of the birds were fun to watch. I came later in the day so they were closing, but still captured most of the birds and was able to get inside the front cage for some flight shots.I feel bad for the health condition that some of the birds were in, but I believe they are in a good home now and will hopefully heal from whatever their past wounds were.No one needs to get a pet of any kind if they cant take care of it properlyIm not sure how people live with these birds loud squaking though. I wouldnt be able to handle it, thats for sure. But props to the people who can. It was rough for my ears at times walking through the park. One of the peacocks seemed camera shy when trying to get its picture with his spread feathers. Every time Id try to get in front of it for the photo, hed turn his backside to me.
Even though it rained the kids loved it. Birds that talked and even a dancing bird. We plan to go back soon!
Loved it! There are so many beautiful tropical birds.
Fun for the whole family. You feel like you are helping our a small business. Tons of birds who have lots of space. Some even talk. Very fun for small kids.
I called Sandys on one of their days of operation, and asked about the days they are not in operation, if theres any possibility that someone might be at the park, if they could show us around, Id pay anything to get the chance to see these birds. (I was planning a day trip for my girlfriends birthday in Pensacola) The woman on the phone, said she could talk to the owner and see what they had to say. A day later in mid-morning, I get a call from a fella who said he volunteers on the off days to feed the birds and hangout with them. He said hed be glad to show us around while hes there. IM SORRY ITS BEEN MONTHS AND I CANT REMEMBER YOUR NAME! But, I remember him by Sammy because of the amazing Macaw we met and held with him, named Sammy. They had quite a chemistry.Anyways, so, we show up at the agreed time, I call him twice, he answers and opens the gate, we go into the main office, and he immediately introduces us to some house favorites, the greeters if you will. The birds looked so happy, their cages looked lived in, but, well-attended to, each one of them so lively. The first bird he showed us was a house-sized bird, who liked to lay on his back. So, the man cradled him and asked my girlfriend to hold him, with both her hands together, palms up, the bird laid on his back in her hands. He couldnt do anything else, the poor fella had lost his leg in an accident. So, lucky for us, he had grown to love being held on his back, having his belly rubbed. Then the man brought out a little firecracker of a white Cockatoo. The Cockatoo immediately scurred up and down my girlfriends arm, and then out to the end of her hand, where he lifted his wings a little, which caused a sway in her arm. The man suggested she move her arm up and down about three feet, like rowing a boat or something. The Cockatoo began to duck low when her arm went low, and push up as her arm went up, kin to jumping on a trampoline, he had an apex where hed lift off your arm a little, but still grabbing at your hand with his talons. He would squawk very loudly to tell us he was happy.Considering it was an off day, I offered to pay the man, but, he insisted I put it in the tip jar. Though, I surely hope he went back, grabbed the bill and bought himself something nice, he really deserves it.He led us into the main park with a least a hundred different birds, emus, parakeets, macaws, two peacocks, and so many more. He gave us a bucket with an array of treats, a few ground rules, and the best advice you can give when visiting the birds: let them come to you for the treat. Dont stick the treat through the cage to feed them. They will and did all stick their beaks through for their treats, only denying us because of their attitude or preference for oranges, which we ran out of quickly.I wont bore you with the small details, but, I must say, my experience at Uncle Sandys was magical, absolutely surreal. I could have spent a whole summer there, and I can see why the staff is so dedicated to these birds, going as far as to have bandaged fingers and torn up baseball caps just loving on these amazing creatures that needed a home after being let go by lazy, stupid, or just plain unprepared pet owners.A place like this should exist for every animal or pet known to man. You wouldnt believe how much fun you might have at a rat park.Thank you Uncle Sandys, you made our day, and I cant stop bragging about you, and I wont until I have a chance to come down there and volunteer.Much love and cheers!
Such a cool place! Staff was absolutely wonderful and helpful! A fun outing for our little family. Our two little ones loved it! Highly recommend. Well be back for sure.
This was way more fun than expected. It doesnt look like much as you drive up, but was a lot of fun for the kids and adults.
Cutest bird park around! And the staff are great as well! $5 gets you into the park to visit with all of the birds and also includes a cup of food to feed the birds. Even though all of the birds are rescued, you can tell they are very well cared for now. It took us about an hour to walk through the park. We even got to hold a blue and gold macaw named Paco and the African grey bird named Consuela.
If you are in the area, this is a must. I meet the most wonderful people with the love of taking care of birds. It’s only $5 to get in.
Beautiful birds! They let you feed them with their healthy food. The are in large cages but you can get close to them and to the free roaming peacocks. I think very young children would need to be closely supervised but it might still be a great experience. They don’t charge a lot but a donation is very appreciated. We will definitely go back.
Absolutely love this bird park! Each time we visit, my husband and I have the hardest time leaving because theres so many birds to view, chat with and feed. The park is run 100% by volunteers and donations, so we like to bring some unsalted peanuts, apples or oranges, or put a few extra dollars in the donation box. We are avid animal lovers and are always on the lookout for animal encounters ~ this park ranks among our favorite!
Great experience for kids and bird lovers. Not fancy, but fun. I might add, there are many cool birds here! Will return.
The owner is great and makes us feel welcome every time we see him. Its great to have someone that is willing to take in the birds in town that otherwise have been neglected or unwanted by previous owners. The volunteers are great and are always happy to give information about each of the birds.
I loved it. Its great for people of all ages to go look at and enjoy feeding the birds. Sometimes the birds will make conversation with you and its very entertaining. 10/10 would visit again.
A fun place to visit! We were able to take our big family for just $16 and expose the kids up close to some awesome birds. Be sure to feed the emus! This is a small place, but took about an hour to feed the birds the cup of food and look around. My daughter picked up a beautiful macaw feather and asked if she could keep it. The staff member explained that the feathers that they sell help pay the bills but offered to trade her for a peacock feather! It was fun to support a wildlife sanctuary. Thanks!
We had a blast! Im in love with Kramer! I love birds but I am also still scared of them. But Kramer will make you forget about any fear!
Wow. The birds are so awesome. Reed helped us and had lots of info about each bird that we asked about. He made us feel welcome. We enjoyed feeding them apple slices, cooked pasta and peanuts in the shell. We were happy to find out that as much as we enjoyed the birds, they enjoyed the different human stimulus also. It was a great way to spend a few hours with some very enjoyable birds. Thanks for showing us Georgia folks an awesome afternoon.
Very cool little place! The kids and I enjoyed our visit. Also quite affordable only $9 for me and the kids, that includes a small feeding for each person to feed the birds.
Had a great time here for 3+ hours. Everyone who works there are great and informative. You can tell they take excellent care of all the birds. One of the biggest highlights of our vacation to the panhandle!
Found this place on trip advisor and we were excited because my kids loved the bird exhibits at other attractions (Gatorland in Orlando, St Augustine Alligator Farm) and here you get to feed them.We missed the driveway twice when trying to get there - the entrance/parking wasnt what we expected and we even wondered if it was the right place and if it was open. It felt like we were parking in someones yard. Even thought about turning around, but glad we didnt.Went up to the gate and rang the bell as the sign directs. Our guide came and let us into the office (shack) and gave us the rundown on how to feed the birds, including offering us bug spray. We each got a small basket of peanuts (in shell) and were able to walk around many cages feeding a number of different kinds of birds (of course many Macaws). It was fun to hear many of the birds talking. They have it clearly marked which birds are more friendly than others. They are very attentive to the kids experience. She took an African Grey out for my kids to hold and answered all their many questions. The only reason I dont give it a 5 is that the grounds look dated and scruffy. But it was nice to support a mom and pop type organization that has a passion for what they do. Wear shoes, not flip flops, as she said they do have fire ants on the grounds.Enjoyable, inexpensive attraction for families.
Had a fantastic time here with my girlfriend. The birds there were so sweet and it looks like the owners really do love them!
My mom and I enjoyed it greatly and already want to return! So much to see and learn. If you dont like how it looks, donate money to help it look better!
Beautiful Birds. Awesome staff. We had a great time!! You can tell the animals are well kept, not mistreated, & in a safe environment!! I strongly recommend a visit to this hidden gem!!!
Fun, inexpensive place to take family and kids...
Great place! Every paid admission receives a cup of food. The staff show you how to feed the birds and other animals. The birds will say hello to you. The peacocks roam free but never bothered us. They have emus you can feed too.
Excellent place for families!
Its a 50/50 deal. Yes they take in parrot that are unwanted. But some of these birds are in cramped cages. No food in sight other than the little cup of food people are given to share.Little birds acted like they had never eaten. Then there was nothing for the birds to play with.Would be a better place if they would adopt out these birds so they might find a forever home.
So fun! the birds are so cute and funny. My boyfriend and I stopped by while vacationing in pensacola and I think it was our favorite thing we got to do. We got rained out towards the end but we probably would’ve stayed forever if we hadn’t!
This is such a wonderful place to enjoy some beautiful birds. My girls enjoyed seeing all the colorful birds. It was a nice experience. Would def come back just to feed all the different birds. I especially had fun feeding the emu’s!
Fun for an afternoon but not much more than a bunch of loud birds you feed. Enjoyed it but don’t need to return
I was just amazed by this place. The gentleman was so nice and informative. It was just awesome. A jewel right here in my city and I didnt know about it!
The best cheap fun on 9 mile road. $5 except for young kids. Cash only. Includes food for the birds and emus. We really enjoy this stop every time. Dancing with the cockatoos is hilarious. The staff and volunteers love their jobs. You could just park and see the parrots in the large parking lot bird enclosure if youre unsure or in a hurry.
Educational and fun! Many beautiful birds here, each with their own personality. Lulu was my favorite. We will be back, thanks!
We loved feeding the birds, especially Jasper! The budgies were some of my favorites as well as their two free range peacocks and an emu.
It was beautiful. The staff was very nice.
My family and I had a great time!! Staff was friendly. A lot of the birds even said hello to us! The one in the front office asked us how we were doing it was hilarious
I had no idea what to expect with this place, but it ended up being a great experience. Before even seeing the birds, the guy at the counter got you excited to see the birds with his enthusiasm. They provide some food to feed the birds with and show you what not to do, then let you roam around. Definitely worth the stop. Especially with kids. Our 2.5 yr old love it.
A wonderful hands on experience. The volunteer staff was fantastic.
I couldnt have asked for a better experience! The birds are beautiful and look so happy in their sanctuary.
We had a great time interacting with these birds today. Our group ranged in ages from 7 to 55, and everyone enjoyed it. The birds are friendly and personable, and most are very gentle when taking food from your hand. However, I slipped up and got a painful but accidental bite: the large parrot I was trying to feed dropped the food the first time, so he was a little overzealous the second time and I wasn’t vigilant, and he chomped down hard on one of my fingers leaving a bleeding gash. So be more careful than I was, but don’t miss this special place. I will definitely go back.
Great time for all ages. Reasonable staff are wonderful. You can even feed the birds.
Fun place .. friendly staff
We fed the birds, watched them dance and we were in awe with how beautiful the park was. Some of our family was there and we all really enjoyed the bird that goes by Kramer. My brother played some songs for him and he boogied so hard. There are some gorgeous birds there and the best part is they were rescues! Be sure to OPEN the peanuts for the smaller birds and the emus or theyll choke. Outside of the bugs(they offer spray) it was perfect. My daughter got antsy toward the end but that was because she hadnt had much to eat.
A great cause, and you get to feed the birds and 2 emus!!
Always a great experience! Love visiting the birds and everyone there!!
It was a great learning experience I loved it. I want to volunteer there.
A great place to visit if you really are into Birds. They rescue birds so the place should be giving a lot more attention than what it is. Good people and a good place. You have to try and look for it because it is kind of tucked away and you would never know that it was there. I would recommend anybody to visit there.
Amazing place! Its wonderful and the people/bird are extremely sweet. We spent a bunch of time there and had a blast. The birds do bite as they are animals so you have to be careful, but most only bit if you were disrespectful.
Small but good. Feeding the birds was so fun.
Love this place so cool! Lots of birds cheap very interactive all volunteer people run it. A great local secret.
Didnt realize they are closed Wednesdays.. maybe next time
Very cool little place for a lot of various tropical birds. Kept our 15 month old granddaughters interest and was a fun little escape for a reasonable price.
We really enjoyed our visit to the park. Reed was amazing very caring and knowledgeable about the birds. Best activity we did on our trip. Will definitely come back to visit, really enjoyed the Senegal parrot there he was a sweetheart.
Amazing place to bring the kids! The staff is so friendly and the birds are amazing. Would highly recommend taking your family here for a day adventure. You guys are awesome!
Staff was awesome! Let us hold the birds even. We loved the emus and peacocks!!! Tons of birds, over 170 total!!!!!
All of these beautiful birds are rescues & have a safe, tropical & loving place to live! We spent the whole morning there!
I am a wildlife rehabber and lifetime owner of African greys and conures. The parrots you see in wire cages are in-humane. The person I spoke to said I have no idea what I am talking about because it would be too difficult to clean up the droppings, however the parrots had little to no rope swings or wood to climb on. They are currently being reported to the Animal Humane Society.
This is a great hidden gem in the community. My kids are always excited to come here. Seeing, feeding and touching some of the birds never gets old. You can’t beat the price, and they offer military discounts. Definitely a very unique and interesting place. Good for a short visit! Make sure to say hi to sweetie! She lives up to her name...
This is an amazing place that rescues and treats birds that people cant take care of. Its an amazing place and the owner does amazing work. Definitely a place to see and donate to if you can.
Awesome little bird rescue. You get to feed the birds and enjoy them and its priced cheap for the experience you get.
Awesome feeling going back and seeing all the birds! Super friendly staff, and the birds interact with you if youre nice to them.
Really cool place ...very unique experience!! Volunteers are extremely knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. We will definitely be back!!!
Amazing!Thank you for having a sanctuary like this and letting us come and visit with the birds.
This is a hidden treasure. Its a nonprofit organization that takes in birds. For just a $5 donation, (entrance fee) you get hours of fun. We were all adults going that day and were were there for over 3 hours. We had a great time feeding the birds. Yes, you each get food to feed them. You can also bring nuts in the shell to feed and donate. Didnt finish all those nuts over the holidays? Take them with you and have a cheap day out. The kids will Love it and so will you
Was a great experience to feed such beautiful birds and the owner was so wonderful as well.
Great place to feed and interact with the birds!
Great place ran by great volunteers.
Great people working here to take care of some beautiful at risk animals, great job
Awesome Place. great fun for the kids. loved every minute. been there twice now.
Being from Nebraska the only place you can see macaws are at the zoo and you cant get as close and personal its great for kids would recommend
