Ive been to the real thing and thats better, of course, but at least you can touch the stones here, and you dont have to be a practising Pagan on a Wheel holiday to come close. It seems you dont even need to be a student, so its worth breaking up a long drive along the interstate to see this.
Vacation Mode popped in this am!Stonehenge in Odessa, TX! Wow! It is an exact replica!I have been to the original in Salisbury, UK, so magnificent and spiritual but the circle where you walk to observe is 10 yards from the monument. Having a long lens helped! Here, you can walk among the stones as the Druids would, experiencing the encompassing towers, running your fingers over the soft textures and grooves in the stones, feeling a certain reverence and meditative quality in the design, a very new perspective! This is a must see if you are near Odessa, TX. University of Texas of the Permian Basin.
Would have never imagined Stonehenge would be sitting in the middle of West Texas! What a treat! I dont know if well ever be able to see the original, so it was so nice to get an idea of what it looks like. It made us do a bunch of research about Stonehenge and why its such a marvel.
Cool but be aware there are stickers that get stuck in your shoes and your dogs paws
Enjoyed this excursion very much so. Such a neat structure, took some very nice pictures here !
It’s a gem hidden in Odessa, really nice photography spot. It’s on UTPB campus
Super cool place to visit at sunset. unable to fly drone due to airport restrictions. also cool meeting others visiting the location. there is also a replica in Ingram Texas.
Of course it doesnt compare to the original but given where this is located it is the next best thing. We also love walking the paved trail / about 3 miles around the University. There is a duck pond and restrooms close by. One part of the walking path goes around several acres of natural landscape including birds rabbits and even a stray coyote may be seen. Great place in such a busy city.
What a neat and unexpected find in the middle of basically no where. Well worth a few mins to check it out. The replica is actual size and even with parks around it, was very quiet.
To some, its a bunch of tall rocks. To many others, its a fascinating monument, scaled down to fit on the University campus. To a plurality of the public, however, its simply a Gym in Pokémon Go (or a Portal in Ingress). Interesting, to be certain, but generally left alone, except for these and other proximal circumstances.
Right in the middle of nowhere. This replica appears.. Simar to the original.. Surrounded by highways and motorways.
Beautiful place for pictures and to be away from home for peace and fresh air ! Enjoy this magical place !
Fun visit. Great for pictures . Doesnt take long
Neat place. Went with my granddaughter.
Excellent! Glad we stopped. Such an interesting and imposing ...for such a small scale display.#InAwe #StoneHengeReplica #OdessaRocks
A fun place to see and hang out at. Educational as well--theres a plaque you can read up on before entering the vicinity.
Neat, definitely starts conversation about how
When I was in town visiting I made this one of the main places I wanted to visit. Based on the actual design and placement of the real stonehenge. When you see it from a distance the mind doesnt really grasp the size and complexity of what this is. Then when you are walking among the stones you start to transport into the wonder of what stonehenge is really like. How did such large stones get places like that so many years ago? This replica is kind of awe inspiring to see when youre keeping the real one in mind.Whether you want a sample of the real stonehenge, or just want to relax next to a leviathan of stonework, this replica is pretty fantastic. The grounds are clean and it looks to be well maintained with no graffiti or otherwise misuse of the property. Since this does lie on campus property it is advised that you park in the lot that is right next to the replica and not anywhere else, as a permit is required. The campus police and those going around checking vehicles wont mind parking there if youre visiting the replica.Adjacent to the replica is also one of the art buildings that has a neat little display inside from some of the students, that you can go and look at quickly on your way out.
Fun for the kids and adults. Good for pics.
This was the first time I visited the Stonehenge Replica and I found it fascinating. I recommend it if youre visiting Odessa Texas
Nice attraction but still it’s a replica!
Nice, relaxing and thought provoking. Great replica!
Really neat replica of Stonhenge. Free to see. If you are in Odessa, go by and check it out. Easy access & parking.
Fun interpretation. Enjoyed being able to walk through it.
This Place Was Awesome!! Very Impressed!! Has Plaques With Descriptions Around ALL 4 Corners. Has a circular Paved Path to walk or for wheel chairs. If you are in the Area Its A Must See!!! Will try & Post Pictures Later...
Great replica and good place to meditate
A delightful surprise on the West Texas plains... not quite as magical as the original but certainly more easily accessible.
Very interesting. I would be interested in seeing the real stone hedge in England.
This is kinda cool in a novel way. But Google makes it seem A LOT better than it is and like is a great place for kids. IT IS NOT! It is a gravel pit with some stacked up rocks. Nothing more. If youre local and want to check a neat thing out to kill 10 minutes definently, if youre from out of town looking for a fun event for the kids KEEP MOVING
Neat attraction right by the UT campus. easily accessible.Every few feet there is a sign explaining about the history, architecture etc of Stonehenge and this replica. I really liked how they explained the differences as well.
Cool to check out!
On the grounds of UTPB, this is a must visit for anyone coming through town. Great location to take pictures and have some fun with the kiddos. Although it is small the quality of the replica is amazing, and if you like to jump from rock to rock this is a great place to show your skill during a photo op.
Fun for a quick stop to stretch your legs but do not think it compares to the real thing
Cool lil replica to take pictures of and with
Interesting but ....
Its cool! Nice to bring a little art into the area!! Now make a mini replica of the 3 great pyramids of Giza! Please!!
There isnt much to do in the area but this was a cool find. I wish we would have been able to stay for the upcoming summer solstice but we were not able to.
Its free and a good way to know how the original looks like and the history. It doesnt have the beauty and mystery of the original one but it is a good spot for taking pictures.
Amazing! I could tune out the traffic from the busy road nearby and almost picture being in England as a giant. Think we’ll probably check this out again when it’s not freezing and raining. #onlyintexas
Summer 2018 Solstice: doing a little sunset worship
Great replica for those who might not make it to the original!
An interesting monument. Worth checking out
Just a nice place to be and has some plaques with good information
My husband and I visited while he was working in Andrews. It was interesting to see. Id recommend it to anyone. Easy parking and easy accessible for wheelchairs.
Stonehenge in Odessa! With a Home Depot next door! Great running trails too!
This is really nest. Its a replica of Stonehenge in England. Its located on the campus of university of texas of the Permian basin. I think its a real asset tovhave this on the campus, and something interesting to see
Beautiful in the evening. I think it would be great to take kids to with careful supervision. Lots of gravel - so wear closed toed shoes and no climbing. Then you can walk along the UTPB trail, visit the UTPB Nancy Fyfe Cardozier gallery or play some tennis nearby afterwards. Dog friendly area as well.
It soothes my soul & makes me get up & shake a little bit
Nice place for an evening walk
Highly recommend if you are in the area. Very quick to see or spend as long as you like. Easy to get to and find. Definitely worth a look
We went to have a family day outing there. There is a star in the center for finding which direction you are facing as well as a few plaques around giving information about the site. Definitely recommend for those who want to take the family somewhere scenic and educational. (Plus there are Pokémon Go and Ingress spots in the area)
Great historical site on the UT Permian Basin campus. Great for people of all ages.
Beautiful location for portrait photography or just to glance the Texas sunsets.
This is a amazing place. Take the time to stop and read the plaks. The info contained in them, is so enlightening. It is a place that encourages you to let your imagination loose.Though you can walk around and be back inside your car. In less than 5 minutes. But if you will take the time, to see what this place offers, and can teach us of our past. And what can be done with dedication. You will leave with the same feelings of wander, as I did. I will be back to visit, the basins own Stonehenge.
Makes me want to see the real one even more
I enjoyed it. It has plaques which explain the history of Stonehenge too. Very interesting.
Visited at sun down yesterday. Very peaceful and beautiful.
Amazing, fun, and beautiful place
Great lil Pokemon GO stop @ UTPB
Layout is excellent, even when its busy it doesnt feel overcrowded
Well maintained and very visited place!
Nice place to take photos.
Nice place. People who know about Stonehenge will love to see the its copy in US :)
Must say found this spot quite accidentally but enjoyed looking around.
I really enjoyed taking my grandchildren here. Ive been there twice and it overwhemed me both times. We took lots of photos.
Just a very neat place to see.
Loved watching my girls climb. Beautiful day for wonderful pictures.
This replica of Stonehenge is actually astronomically correct. Even more, it’s made of local rock. It’s a Permian Basin version through and through.
Its a cute little park.
One of the coolest things in OD! Very nice place to pokemon hunt or just enjoy an hour. Lots of other interesting stuff to see in the area.
Out of the norm. Really cool experience
Pretty cool! I stumbled upon it while playing pokemon go, and had a great time seeing the college and this interesting peice
Pretty cool to check out if you have seen anything on stone henge.
Really impressive reproduction.
Very awesome! Something free to do with the family.
Not enough info boards. Uncertain if it is a full scale replica.
Highly recommend if you are in the area and are interested in stuff like this. It doesnt take long to walk around and see if you are on a tlme schedule either, it will be worth the visit.
Very unique, just in case you cant ever get to the real one.
It was awesome. We went early and had the place to ourselves for a while!
Cool little spot to chill out
Amazing structure, I hope I get to go see the original one
Cool replica of Stonehenge on a college campus. Worth seeing if in Odessa.
Good place, has pokestops
Quite interesting, but much smaller than, and doesnt really look like the real Stonehenge.
Great place for pictures
This is a very cool display. Thank you to all the people that made this possible. Very impressive.
Very fun to visit! Not an exact stone replica which is explained on the Marquee but cool all the same!
This is a hilariously Texan version of an actual wonder of the world. Where else but Texas will you find a astrologically correct version of Stonehenge, complete with machine-cut stone? That said, it is fun and even educational. It makes a great stretch your legs stop if youre passing through the Midland-Odessa area.
Its a nicely designed replica of the one over in England, but the backdrop is nothing spectacular. I would recommend going around sunset to have any opportunity of a good photo around it (West Texas sunsets can be awesome at times). I wouldnt call it a great place for photos because the horizon is not visible due to close proximity of buildings and other structures. Not bad for Odessa though.
Wonderful art project and perfect place for pictures
