Its a nice long trail! I walk and hour and a half and didnt reach a end so I turned around. Easy to fallow with a couple of benches and one picnic table along the way. Very nice sounds and you cant hear in traffic. Plenty of pictures to be taken. Its muddy and the mosquitoes are bad but overall great experience!

Easy hiking and beautiful! We only saw one other couple (with a dog) while we were there. The trails were clean and well maintained. It includes a short loop and you can hike all the way to Baseline and Santos from Marshall Swamp Trailhead. We will definitely add this location to our list of regular hikes. Be forewarned, some areas look like they might get muddy after the rains. Wear appropriate footwear.

Love this trail. Watch for roots and dog poop from inconsiderate dog owners. Heard the rumor of monkeys getting loose from a movie set years ago and living here, it is true. They were too far away for a clear pic but you will hear them if you dont see them about 3 miles in.

Beautiful...so quiet and still very Florida... stop by the Sharpes Ferry office next door to pick up a brochure or get info about this trail. However far you hike/ bike, remember you will have to come back the same way.

Its an excellent hike I dont know if its just me but I pulled in prematurely into a Ranger workstation where there were people working behind closed doors that were of no help at all. Make sure it says Marshall swamp trailhead before you pull in and then its a wonderful Wilderness nature trail. I would bring mosquito spray all year as I was hiking in November and there were mosquitoes everywhere. Wonderful hike lots of nature

Its a nice rustic trail. Very pretty scenery. I love the observation deck. It is very swampy so It can get muddy at times and Im sure bugs can be a major problem certain times of the year. It says the main trail is about 2.5 miles and connects with some other trails. Keep in mind that its a straight shot, so if you walk that far youll have to walk that far back unless you make arrangements. There is a loop trail that basically circles around and back to the main trail. It did not look well maintained at all. I had to climb over several fallen trees to get through and the path did not seem as obvious as the main trail at times. I recommend people stay on the main trail and turn back when they feel they have reached their halfway point.

Great hiking spot. Lots of things to see and take photo of. But make sure you go when its not raining or just got done raining or you wont get far. Hence the name Marshall swamp trailhead it becomes a real swamp when it rains.

Really has that in the forest feeling, beautiful trees and mixed habitats. Forest ranger present and keeping track on visitors times. Bring water, stay hydrated. There are covered picnic benches near the trail head.

I hiked through Marshalls Swamp starting at Baseline Rd heading north. It was a perfect day for a hike. It was a nice cool spring morning. I lost the blaze just north of baseline after I crossed a paved bike path declining into a sinkhole. I had to backtrack a few times until I found the orange blaze on the left bank. The trail was secluded and shaded throughout. The swamp was mark with a foot icon and I was not sure I was still on the Florida Trail until I saw the orange blaze. The climate drastically changed from dry and a pine scub forest to a wet and moist swamp. Bring you mosiquiito repellant. I had to traverse through water and parts of the trail. I highly recommend this trail during the cooler dry months.

Part of the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway and formerly part of the Florida Barge Canal. Florida Department of Environmental Protection Division of Greenways and Trails sublease the Marshall Swamp/Baseline portion of the freeway to Marion County in 1999. Parking area, restrooms and 2.5 mile + walking trail which also connects to the Baseline Road Trailhead. There is an abundance of wildlife from deer and many aviary species making this a wonderful trail to enjoy. Added bonus of your canine family members are permitted but must be leashed and licensed. Mosquitos can be pesky in the evening hours. Beginners and advanced hikers both can enjoy the shade of lush tree canopy and even enjoy a picnic at one of the tables provided. See some of Marion Countys unique beauty here.
