My grandkids and I visited and were impressed by the amount of stuff on display. We were able to touch some of the animals there. It was a great time to talk with the center director, his grandson and dog. They all made us feel welcome and eager to come back for more adventures!

With not much to do on a Saturday morning, I brought my 4.5 year old boy out here and I enjoyed it as much as he did. We got a great morning and early afternoon occupied for free. We got loads of education through a nature discussion from naturalist Ernest Martin, he knew so much, not just about snakes, bugs & reptiles but also has a vast and impressive knowledge about dinosaurs, too. The hands on exhibits were great, as well as the terrarium and diagrams. If youre in the area, definitely make the visit.

Lake Thunderbirds nature center!! Nature center has live animals we use for education purposes but also to let people know what animals in the environment of the state of Oklahoma. Park naturalist is an amazing guy to talk to about anything animal, trees, dirt, etc. If you go to Lake Thunderbird and dont come to the nature center you would be missing out on the best thing there! From boy scouts, girl scouts, to homeschool, and to anybody wanting to know more about ANY animal. There is no fee to visit the nature center. Before volunteering there make sure you have your background and paperwork thats been done and you receive a copy of all of it before even touching anything no matter what age you are!

Not sure who was working today but when my husband opened the door to look in he was screamed at by whoever was in there not to bring our dog in. He wasn’t taking the dog inside just looking in. The person inside had his dog in there and just screamed at my husband to get out and get our dog out. We don’t take our dog anywhere inside without asking first and our dog was never inside. Not a very nice welcome.

If you are at Lake Thunderbird, the Disovery Cove Nature Center is a great place to stop by with your kids. There are several hands- on activities including a table with a large assortment of animal shells and bones and an animal scat matching game (sounds gross but my son loved it). There are also several live animals on display including snakes, scorpions, turtles, and tarantulas. The staff even has a large python they bring out and let the children touch.
