Camp ground was clean and well taken care of the camp hosts are friendly and always willing to help. I have noticed less park rangers and the campground runs pretty smooth, no showers but the restrooms are very clean. The trails to the beach are clean and a delight to hike and bike overall we had a wonderful experience.

South Beach has so much to offer! Its big, clean and has many bike and walking trails. Horses are allowed on some. They have firewood available for sale for convenience. Theres an ADA trail that overlooks the beach so my husband could be near us and watch all the happenings. The reason I couldnt give it a 5 star is that the inner circle driveways are not angled theyre straight so for some people it would be impossible for them to maneuver into a spot. Also, all the rv spots are so close. The tent areas are spacious and more private.

South Beach State Park Campground was a nice place. The spots felt very open because of the spare shrubbery in this area so there was not a lot of privacy. We had an RV spot that was a good fit. Beach access was convenient but besides the beach and the jetty there was not a lot to explore with out going into town. The paths were paved and some of the nicest we encountered leading both to the beach and the jetty. It was very windy and chilly out by the water.

Man is it busy here! Even though that was the case, the staff (volunteer?) Really did a great job keeping things moving along. Kept the bathrooms cleaned and every one of them had a nice attitude about them. The staff cant enforce wearing a mask in the bathroom, thats just ignorant people camping with us. The wood bundle place is open from 5pm to 8pm so bundle up! The wood does burn fast though. 5 dollars a bundle isnt bad. Place is nice and quiet after 10 and then its just you and nature and its sounds..

Nice wooded campground but most sites dont have very flat spots for tents and if they do, they are not very big. The whole camp is heavily shaded, nice when its hot but would be bummer if its cold. The beach is very rough rock and the water is cloudy with clay once the boats start moving on the lake. To access the beach you need to go to the day use area or be prepared to climb down a very steep embankment. Most sites also dont have very big pads for trailers with a tow vehicle except for the group sites. The pit toilet was very clean but be prepared to wait at certain times.

Campground was maintained well. Be aware sites are VERY close together and inner loop sites are right to back a camper in. Loops are very close and driving through is a tight fit with children playing and cars close to roads. Bathrooms and showers are good though.Trails and frisbee golf are excellent. Trail to beach is a tough walk with loose deep dry sand for over 1/4 mile from paved path. Beware of stickers if you take your dog...we pulled those out of their feet every time.

Good location but unfortunately the rangers are over-zealous and harassed us continuously about small things - first for having 2 cars + a camper at our campsite. We didnt complain although 4 other sites nearby had the same setup. Then when we didnt move one car fast enough, we had to book a nearby site and immediately move our second car there. Then there was a directive about no propane fire pits, even though all of the signage said propane fire pits specifically were OK. So we had to extinguish our minuscule propane fire pit to satisfy them. Pretty sad place too - campsites are very close together and lots of things are broken like hand soap dispensers in the bathrooms.

Nice beach, great place to walk your dog, restrooms were clean with 5 + stalls (womens), decent parking spaces available. Beautiful park area with lots of picnic tables and a lovely river, lots of trees and shade. If you are looking for a rest stop and a little beach walk, its great here; only thing is there can be lots of people and dogs around, and a lot of people not wearing masks and not observing safe spacing on trails, however, theres plenty of room to step aside to let people go by ;) Its worth a look if you are in the area.

Great place to sit and eat lunch. Watch the boats come in, feed the seagulls and get some great shots of the Newport bridge! Lots of fisherman on the jettys, some people dropping rafts in the water to go fishing. Right next to rogue so you can enjoy the sights and go get some local food!

Busy campground this time of year. The forest rangers are the best of any Oregon state park I have been to. Camp sites are fairly large with lots of trees for shade. It only cost $21 a night for tent sites and firewood is $5 a bundle. It is a bit of a hike to the beach otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

Loved the day use area, the campground itself was a little cramped and absolutely had no privacy. Very popular with families. The beach was to far of a walk for my liking and I prefer to be able to hear the ocean from my campsite. It however is very centrally located being just a mile out of Newport and just a short drive to Lincoln city. Found a couple of small black agates.

Review №18

We had a great time and enjoyed the park, especially having the ocean just a short walk away. The sites were long enough and having electricity and water was perfect. We used the dump station on the way out, so all facilities were great. My only complaint is allowing so many tents in addition to RVs in the same spot. The people next to us had a large RV plus two extremely large tents. One tent was right outside our window. It seemed like a small city was right next to us. I would like to see only one camping unit of any type in each spot.

Huge, crowded, no privacy between sites at all. Youre gonna make friends fast. The toilets were so plugged I had to drive around to find one that was working. Pro-tip the bathroom in the RV section is less used so only one of its toilets was plugged. The beach is real nice tho.

Easy to find, right off Hwy 101. The park is on level ground and is far enough from the road that you cannot hear traffic. Campsites are level and easy to back into. Big, wide, flat, level, paved trails to overlook for visitors who have difficulties with sand. You can sit and watch the ocean on a wood platform that is all-accessible. Trails also go to south jetty and provide information about how the jetty changed the shoreline. Lots of trees provide shady campsite with bushes between sites for some privacy. Unique amphitheater made from shells. Playground and welcome center in the campground with bike rentals and interpretive programs daily. Lots of park hosts keep the park clean and well maintained. Gate house staffed, clean washrooms with flush toilets and hot, free showers. Great vacation park. Great ocean beaches.

We stayed at the night here recently and loved it! The campsites were clean and well maintained. The bathrooms very clean and lightly heated which was nice as it was very cold out while we were there so not having to use a cold bathroom in the middle of the night was wonderful. It has many nice walking trails to the beach right from the camp sites. The visitor area was also maintained regularly as well as the visitor bathroom. This was one of the most well maintained parks I have been to. A quick walk over the dunes at low tide and we were able to secure ourselves a few razor clams each off the sand bar. The clamming here is not the best, we suggest going a little farther North for a slightly better chance of obtaining razors.Firewood can be purchased at visitors center along with a few other items until 8pm. If you find you need something late at night the near by South Beach Fish Market has a convenience store attached that is open 24/7, the fish market closes around 8 I believe. The Park is located very close to the bay which is nice if you are there to harvest seafood. The only things that were a down fall would be that the sites could use a little more shrubbery to make one feel more separate from their neighbors at some of the sites. We also had a neighbor that smoked which was not appriciated by us and a few other neighbors. I dont know if smoking is allowed at the sites but if it is it should not be and designated smoking areas should be set up. If it isnt allowed that is one thing they could uphold better. We were there to enjoy the fresh air not stale cigarette smoke. Over all wonderful stay and we will be back soon.

The staff was super friendly and the sites were a decent distance apart with trees between them so you didn’t feel like you were right on top of your neighbor. We basically spent the night and left fairly early so we didn’t experience much but I would definitely stay here again. The bathroom and showers were clean. The showers weren’t token showers which was nice. There were paths to the beach and I believe a museum and a fun park for the kiddos to play at. It was $21 for a tent site which is an amazing deal compared to some of the campsites I’ve been to which didn’t offer as much. Like I said I would definitely stay here again.

We wanted to get in another camping trip this year, but it was supposed to rain! Thank goodness for an available yurt. Theyre $48 a night, so more than a tent spot, but less than a motel. We were able to build a fire the second night. The yurts sleep 5 comfortably. ( bunk with twin on top, full on bottom and a full futon) They have a heater, which keeps the place warm, but not toasty. Youll still need sweatshirts and bedding on a cool night. They do open up (sunroof and windows) for summer time. The only downside is you can hear a nearby bouy at all hours (beep every few minutes or more).

This is a great park! Lots of camping spaces and yurts available too! So much to do and very well kept. We were bummed to find the kids park was not open but it sure looks like a lot of fun when it does open. We would have loved to rent bikes but apparently they dont do that in their off season. It would be nice if maybe the yurts were discounted in the off season being so much becomes unavailable... It was a great stay but next visit I guess well plan for a better time of year and call ahead to make sure everything is open and available.
