This moderate 1 mile hiking loop through enchanted old growth and coastal wetlands takes about 45 minutes and was such a nice experience I almost don’t want to leave this review for you to find it.Parking consists of space for about 8 cars along the shoulders of SE 50th St and a bike rack near the trailhead. Educational info can be downloaded off the website ahead of time showing 15 points of interest along the trail. Entire loop is shaded and begins with a level bark path along an abandoned railroad bed then winds up the stabilized sand dune turned forest becoming a packed dirt trail often using the tree roots themselves as steps. Several bridges, observation decks and sitting benches give opportunities to rest or view wildlife and unique vegetation along the way. In July we saw wild berries and a bald eagle overhead with some bugs around the water. I cannot wait to return in Spring to see the 30ft rhododendrons in bloom. The Wilder Trail spur is an additional .3 miles and connects to the housing at Oregon Coast Community College (where there is also a dog park and disc golf course), and the Emery Trail adds .4 miles looping around a pond. The area is not ADA accessible and not recommended for anyone without sure footing due to varying terrain and elevation but the children and pets we passed seemed to be handling it well. This would be a great place to bring new hiking gear to test out. Subtracted 1 star for non-standard parking on a blind corner and an area of the trail with 4.5’ clearance under a downed tree.
This trail was a new found favorite and we will definitely be back and will frequent often. The description of the location of this trail stated that it is near Toledo, however it is closer to Newport (just south of Newport). The topography and scenery is wonderful. The trees gives a sense that you’re walking among the giants. Very whimsical and lots of little hobbit nooks. This trail joins with others to add to the experience and length.I would say that this trial is more of a moderate versus easy trail. There are many climbs and descents along the way.
Googled Mountain biking in Newport and this trail came up, but this is not a mountain bike trail, unless you like to walk your bike. The one star is for that. Its a lovely little hike with some nice big trees and short steep trail.
Too hard for old people.
Another great day with someone I lost and will be a happy memory that is in addition to the bin fire parties I would attend as a high schooler.
Great birding!
Good place to walk the doggos and see old growth forests with some wildlife.
Love walking my dogs here.Hidden gem in South Beach
Wonderful little hike that is perfect for a family. My two and a half year old was able to do the mile loop with little assistance. Bridges, water, newts, great scenery, etc. Setup by and have fun! Only takes about an hour. Trail well maintained. I hope this review was helpful, if it was, please give it a thumbs up!
Great short hike through the woods with information stops/educational info. There were no guides left in the box but the info is available online. Good way to spend an hour or so.
Pleasant Surprise! A gem at the Oregon Coast
Great place with lovely sights. Even better when its cooler out. Only real downside is that there are lots of roots on the trail.
Great trails very family orientated.
Great trail to walk. Easy mile with a few ups and downs, but plenty of benches and rest areas.
Couldnt really say much about it. As soon as I got out of the car to go into the park from the south side, a lot of mosquitoes landed on me. I left just a few seconds later. If you do go here, make sure you are willing to get bit by mosquitoes left and right.
Four stars because the trails are great!! No 5th because of the occasional creepy possible rapists.
Nice place to go
Very fun, great trail. I go there all the time!!
Beautiful walk through the trees!
Great trail
