Ive been hiking here for years, and it is a beautiful park. Reason for my low rating is that theyve been doing a lot of brush and vine clearing lately. And I get it, some of the stuff theyre removing isnt native. However, apart from the loss of habitat and food for the local wildlife, the removal of large vines and brush makes it feel like a man-made area. And I hike these state parks to see nature as it is, not what people think it should look like. Results of this brush removal are immediately obvious. Fewer birds and animals, and an understory with far less plantlife. No joke, I see more wild animals in my suburban neighborhood these days than I do in this park. I cant remember the last time I saw a Fox in parts of this park. Also, they do an absolutely lousy job of maintaining some of their historic buildings. With the exception of the ones they use for their nature center, and to rent out, everything else is allowed to rot and fall apart. They let it fall apart until they have an excuse to tear it down, and then they just have it demolished.
A fabulous state park in Delaware and adjoining White Clay Creek Preserve in Pennsylvania. Has many variety of trails, from an old roadbed of an abandoned railroad, former roads, to dirt paths winding up and down the hills around The White Clay Creek and its tributaries. The Historical Mason-Dixon Trail goes thru on the western side of the park, with an historical marker located in the middle on a side trail. The one downside is parking at the numerous parking areas in Delaware is limited, and costs $4 for residences and $8 for out if staters. If one plans on going to hike frequently, best to purchase a year long pass at the State Park Offices M-F 8am-4pmEach State Park (White Clay, Brandywine Creek, Bellevue) has excellent paper maps of most of the trails.
Always worth a trip! Beautiful area with excellent trails.
Parking was fairly priced considering the amount of resources it requires to keep the park maintained although spot fill up quick! Only thing I might add is that the waste bin for dog droppings could be emptied more frequently.
Super family friendly, beautiful, and relaxing. I love being out in nature and this place cant be beat.
First time going to the park and though it was quite scenic and beautiful, it was hard to navigate and got lost on the way back even though we took the same trail. Be careful there are a lot of bike riders and if you aren’t careful you are sure to be run into by someone on a bike..... Great for families and use a map!
Love this park. Took pics of my daughter here and they came out great
Located in an interesting historical building, there were a number of things our four year old was interested in, a sand table, turtles and fish in tanks, and lots of stuffed animals (owls, raccoons, etc). The one room was a bit musty, but it’s a 200 year old building. Staff was friendly and helpful, lots of local knowledge, maps, local event info etc.
All types of trails you could possibly imagine (bike, fishing, hike), and if you look closely for some hidden trails, you might find yourself with private access to certain points of the river.
Always a great place to go visit nature, take long walks/runs, and walk your precious pups!
Its a nice place to go for a walk or a short hike.
Run here all the time. Scenic routes and many of them.
Great place to have a fun time
A very nice park. Lots of hiking options. We parked at the nature center and hiked 6 miles. Very clean with well kept trails. There is a daily fee most of the year.
Went to the carpenter recreation area, they should change the name to the wasp recreation area. So many bees, got out of the car bees, walked to the playground bees, there for five minutes bees, walk back to car bees. If you love angry black wasps this is the place to be.
Absoulety gorgeous
Nice wooded trails and trails along Creek
Nice place for picnics, fishing and hiking.
Great place for nature lovers and birders. I enjoyed walking the trails. I found peace and solitude without having to go far. Nice and quiet area the way nature places should be.
Very beautiful and relaxing
Nice people are friendly, I suggest going when its not rainy and cold. Barbara is a very nice instructor
Anyone who loves nature, a diverse landscape and hiking, biking or just playing outside needs to visit!
The hike was amazing. I am a kid before puberty, and even though the hike was four miles, it was all breathtaking. I wanted to see the Tri-point and the Arc corner, since it was right back on our way from Philly to Fairfax. The trail was scenic, the bridges are cute, and there are poles marking literally everything. We first went on a hike to the Tri-point. There was a large field that had a thin line across it, which was peculiar. There was a bridge with not railings, just stubs at the ends. That made a cool picture. There was a bench on the top of the hill, and you could see the Arc corner trail from there. We reached the tri-point, and it was cool, apart from the mistake that was on the stone. (It didnt mark Delaware.) We hiked along the Arc corner trail after that. I actually saw the bench on the Tri-point trail, and coincidently there was another bech right there. We then made it to the Arc corner, which was very cool. I tried getting on top, but we had to go, since there was going to be traffic on I-95. We finished the hike, and I was glad to have a seat in the car we used to go back to Virginia. By the way, this was my second time in Delaware, my first was just a day earlier.
Great place to visit. The creek is very nice and pristine. Awesome place to bring kids.
Diverse trails and activities. Get an annual pass and get out there!
Great place to walk on a hot sunny morning. Lots of shade and gravel/paved 3 mile loop.
