Beautiful little treasure, hidden away from the noise of the highway, and troubles of life. Has a couple small walking trails that are just long enough to enjoy, without being too long for those who have trouble walking long distances. The main trail is 3/4 mile long, and the upper trail is 2/3 mile. Boardwalk with nice lookout areas, bridges over the water, and along the main trail there are a few spots near the water just off the path with a bench to sit on and enjoy the water.Great place to have a peaceful walk and unwind.Heads up though, part of the main trail is loose gravel, and some stretches of loose sand or packed sand, even though most of it is easily accessible from the parking lot with cement sidewalk till the wooden boardwalk and the boardwalk is easy travels and seemingly well maintained.Enjoyed my time there and the sunset was stellar.
This is a perfect place to take kids on a fun nature walk. Boardwalk is beautiful and intriguing, as you dont know what to expect or where it takes you. You are surrounded by a beautiful FL nature. We saw a lot of turtles and even a manatee. The preserve offers a few different trails. The boardwalk trail was my favorite. It is also the most shaded trail, so can go during the hot hrs of the day. They have a story telling trail for kids, which was interesting. There is also a small playground with a clean bathroom next to it.
It has excellent trails and is well maintained. The trails are easy to walk and navigate. The boardwalk is a nice stroll by the river.
I really love this park. My 2 year old enjoys the playground at the entrance. Seeing the tortoises just roaming around is pretty cool. The boardwalk is probably my most favorite part of the park. Walking along and my head stays on a swivel looking for animals off to the side. A beautiful area and great place for a fun family outing. There are pavilions with grills so you can host little shindigs as well.
Beautiful, was sad a bench by the water I used to sit on was over grown by 10 feet of brush but otherwise beautiful as always. 1 star deduction for upkeep considering its a preserve and only the park workers can cut back overgrowth legally or id do it myself.
Everything is in excellent shape, a truly wild place. Fish, birds and alligators galor! Kayak launch is ADA accessible, clean, and in good repair. Hardly a soul in the park on a Saturday morning. Makes this a perfect gem in the middle of NPR.
This is a hidden gem. A beautiful natural preserve... but, be prepared for the locals knowing that it is a large area with a lot of space... you may find drug users, but they wanna keep their distance from you anyway.
Very peaceful. Nice boardwalk. Recommended
Ive lived around the corner from this place for a year and went for my first time today. Needless to say, my family and I have been missing out. As you pull in there is a little dock to your left to launch a canoe or something similar in size. Keep on driving to the end of the road and you find yourself at a little playground for your smaller children. A few slides, a little rock climbing wall and a few other things with a couple of restrooms right next to it. All in all it was a very clean place and not to mention quiet. It was pretty hot so I didnt get a chance to walk through all of the trails but I highly recommend this place. Ill be taking my family back very soon.
When you are on the trail this park is so untouched except for a path and boardwalk. At some times there is water on both sides of you. There is a few pavilions and a restroom building with accessible stalls. A small playground is near the restrooms and parking. A small parking area is near the kayak/canoe launch. This is such a quiet park. This time we saw a gopher tortoise next to the sidewalk.
A great hidden gem in New Port Richey, a must visit to see how Florida looked like before development.
Just moved from New York and absolutely love it! I will come back again and again.
Nice lil walk, jog or run....good preserve info and wildlife for the walkers. Real Florida scenery...and a few tortoises! Well we saw one...lol. Its a real backwoods meets activity person place to see and explore...cu there?!
This is one of the most relaxing places to walk. I go every morning. Its always quiet, peaceful and a great place to see nature.
Love this place. Great spot to let the kids young & old walk and explore. My younger boys loved reading the story boxes and learning about whats in the area. We even got to see a glimpse of a manatee in the canal. Bonus big climber and clean bathrooms here.
This is a gem hidden away for locals to enjoy. There are two parking areas, one by the docks, and another close to a play area, and bathrooms. We enjoy the boardwalk, as it is easier for my husband to walk on. Plenty of creatures, and birds around. Lovely views overlooking the water, especially from the shelter.
Beautiful trails n spots for kayaking
What a great place. Just dont bring your drunk dog on a skateboard with a metal detector. Its so pretty here. Remember to flip over the tortisoes if they are on their backs regardless of state law. Enjoy!
This park is so Beautiful and serene with very peaceful trails along the water. Its a Great family park with a playground with shelters and grills... We always have a wonderful time!
Nice launch for kayaks. Not much parking.
Love it here! Too many people breaking the no dog rule tho . There sb someway to report them.
Maps confusing but I didnt see any nature animals but its a nice park but there were big chickens there lol and turtles
We liked walking on the boardwalk trail and reading about the life of a grasshopper. Beautiful place to enjoy an afternoon.
The James E. Grey Preserve, originally known as the 80 Acres, is a beautiful slice of Old Florida. As the Pithlaschadcotee River quietly meanders through the heavily wooded preserve, one is transported back to a quieter time. There is a boat launch for canoes and kayaks, but no motor boats. I encourage anyone who wants to see Floridas natural beauty as it was meant to be seen, to visit.
Cool looking park but a little creepy because some of the people that were there were shady looking and one person drove through the grass where 2 gopher turtles were.
Its an amazing place. Very peaceful & we even saw a Manatee & her calf!!!!
This boardwalk, even though its in the middle of the city, makes you feel like you are in a secluded tropical paradise
Nice park. Nice facilities. The kids like the easy access to the trail. A lot of parks have a dirt/gravel entryway however, the drive into the park has many ruts and small potholes that my older car cannot handle well. Unfortunately at this time we will not be visiting again until the entrance and drive in road is a little less rough on our car. But once that is fixed we will surely be visiting again.
Only has one bathroom and theres no drinking water no fountains no swimming but a very nice place to relax I have a lunch I take the kids out for a little sunshine
Great place to enjoy nature, Many great events and excited to see the coming of the Libraries Story Walk!!
A nice little walk along the Pithlachascotee River.
NO DOGS ALLOWED. Pasco county parks system seems to have an issue with dogs. Unable to find a large park with decent trails to walk my dogs. Seems we are relegated to the few small parks with concrete sidewalks.
Saw a dolphin and manatees. Beautiful hidden gem.
Good place for families. Play frisbee. Walk the boardwalk. Play on swings. Not for serious hikers, though.
Amazing Trails, Great exercise, cool spots on the water, Giant Ferns.... WOW... AHH!
Just another beautiful place to go in the state of Florida that isnt a big box store, or just another amusement park scattered throughout the state. Very peaceful, and just a haven for meditation. Nature trails are well kept, and the boardwalk is very nice. Lots of cool offtrail sites as well.
Big, nice clean trails. Not too many bugs. Soooooo many turtles!! Absolutely beautiful.
No dogs allowed despite not being stayed on the website. Drove all the way there only to see my fur baby wasn’t welcome
Beautiful boardwalk and pavilion. Great playground. Free parking.
Love this place. Nice and quaint! Beautiful wildlife preserve.
Great park. Shaded walk area. Lots of picnic areas
Nice place to take morning walk.
The walk was wonderful and you didnt know what was around the corner! People were friendly and greeted with smiles!
Really nice place to take the family...
Love the tranquility was surprised by all the water my 1st time there
Great place to take adventures
Great day kayaking on the river.
This is a nice out of the way park. Where paths and bridge patway maintained. There is uneven paths with some dirt com stone. I like if because has more natural feel. Not big but size enough with some off shoot paths for a mild walk or brisker pass ability. Free in and no fee to park. Turtles, fish and I here at right times gators. Has pavilions to picnic and bathrooms. Small kids playground. I enjoyed it and would come again. All ages appropiate.
Nice park and trails to take the family the place is always clean and quite has grilling and pavilion for family cookouts
LOVE IT... UMMMM UMMM
Nice local beach
Its not bad... Its fairly quiet, has a play ground for the kids, kayak launch and the bathrooms are what youd expect being in the woods. Lots and lots of turtles here, so be cautious driving in please!! #savetheturtles
Quiet park, not a lot of people which is nice if youre looking for a place to get away to out in nature. The kids playgroud is great with bathrooms fifteen feet away. Walking the trails you see turtles, birds, squirrels, raccoons and plenty of other wildlife.
This place was very clean and serene. Took 4 of my nieces and a nephew there and had a blast. There were only a few other groups there but it was spacious and only knew of them being there because of vehicles. The playground was perfect for the younger kids and picnic tables and coverings were well apportioned and clean. Each covering had its own grill and trash cans. There is a public restroom that was well stocked with soap and was also very well upkept. Overall we look forward to coming back. Great job whoever is taking care of this park!!!
Well maintained trails and great views
Beautiful nature park with a kayak launch leading to winding water ways, hiking trails, boardwalks with a wheelchair ramp access, a small playground, a fishing dock, and plenty of shelters for cookouts. We love this hidden little gem of a nature park.
Lots of lubber grasshoppers to eat.
Quiet, charming park with miles of well maintained trails
I love this little park, great place to put in kayaks or just go for a walk on the nature trail.
Quiet little park with nice trails and views and a kayak dock
We love the place, calm and relaxing for families .
Great hidden river park with canoe launch and trails.
Love the trails here.
The Preserve is amazing. Primitive FL scenes that turn to neighborhood properties then the mighty Gulf of Mexico appears. Please dont through your trash in the river.
Great place to take the family to go for a walk and get out of the city life
Great place to see the area along the river as it was years ago.
Very small park. But we did enjoy the trails, the informational boards on the wildlife and the water views. Were disappointed to see the book exchange for children was gone.. But over all a quaint little park. Nice for a quiet day with the family. The kids and I are all hoping the Book Exchange program will return in the future. It was a nice touch that encouraged my child to read and made this park stand out from the others. With it, I wouldve given 5s, for sure!
Lovely place to unwind and take a walk along the long boardwalk.
Some litter on the river, but overall a beautiful park with a great kayak launch site.
Green and beautiful
Its a really nice little park for jogging and fishing
Beautiful reserve. Great place to walk through.
Excellent and very attractive hiking areas with a very nice play area for children.
Nice park, but doesnt allow animals.
I absolutely love it there it is so peaceful. If you need a stress free place to go thats the place.
Great park. Nice playground for the kids with three covered shelters and a restroom close by. Decent trails and boardwalks for walking and taking in a little nature. I have yet to go there and not see a gopher tortoise if not five. Always a pleasure to go.
This place was my home away from home growing up. I know the land and the streets around it. Amazing place. The further south western banks are riddled with ditches from people pillaging arrow heads and other artifacts.
Not dog friendly
Cool Place to take a hike
Awesome place to go
Beautiful park
Awesome family fun! Beautiful scenery!
Great place TO Take Kids and go to a Lit hike
Its a beautiful place to go for a walk.
Great park nice and quiet with a great boardwalk and kayak launch. NO DOGS ALLOWED!!! There are numerous signs posted that say No Domestic Animals and dogs are domestic animals. The gopher tortoises that live in this park and the other native species do not need to be crawling around amidst dog poop. There are no dogs allowed in this park I am in the park every day and will call the sheriff if I see you with a dog in this park.
Beautiful prefect. For my 5 yr old to play on smaller kids playground. Benches with shelter and bathrooms. Wheelchair accessible.quite
One of my favorite spot just to walk and chill listening to my music my go to place to be at ️
It was so much fun! Very beautiful. Would definitely go back.
Very nice place for a nature trail walk
James gray park is a great place for a hike to see Florida in its natural state. we go there to hike two or three times a week. very wild looking place. I dont think I would like to swim there.
Great trails beautiful scenery, small park for the kiddos
Its nice when you walk around the water but also need more care ..
I like it here. I kayak and this is pretty close to the headwaters of the Cottee river. Nice paddling.
