Very good park. Lets go here, ride our bicycles. around different animals. There are toilets everywhere. Walking distance is good enough. 6.5 miles plus ... There is a playground. There are a lot of packrings for cars in different places ... Quite large turtles crawling everywhere and an incredible amount of squirrels running around. We also saw deer and its good that we didnt see alligators. But everywhere it is written that they are there and this is their home ... Be careful if you make noise and always take a lot of water. These are such inscriptions. There are many places for barbecue and meetings with a large group of friends. The only place for walking and cycling ... In general, we recommend for active people and outdoor activities.
I always enjoy going to Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park because they have so many trails you can walk down and so much to explore, its a nice peaceful place to go for a nice walk. They have benches on some of the trails that you can sit on to rest along your walk. They also have a bicycle trail thats 6.5 miles long, the trails are 7 miles long. They have maps of the trails also you can get. And parking is free and theres no fee to pay to visit the park, its all free. They also have a camp ground and cabins. Theres so much to do there.
They have lots of amenities! Daytime playground, rent shelters for parties and events, camping cabins and tent sites, bike trail, hiking trails, horse trails. They also host lots of free or low cost events like the annual spooky Halloween event, annual kids bicycle events, stargazing (telescope) events and summer camps for kids. They have an educational wildlife center for school field trips or girl/boy scouts, and so much more to offer!
I call this Pasco Countys best kept secret playgrounds bike riding cabins horseback very clean bathrooms childrens playground brand new many places to Picnic Park and eat it is a very nice place
I went camping here for the first time, and rented Group Camp Site for 1 Day at the rate of $41.00. The website was easy to navigate, and the park staff were informative and friendly over the phone.Once you book your reservation on the website, go to the park from hours or 2p to 5p to check in with park staff at the Kiosk. Kiosk is located across from Education Center. They will ask for your Photo ID, have you sign your name on a paper receipt, and provide you with the gate code. This camping area is a 5 min walk or 1 min drive from the bathrooms, completely private from camp sites 1-10, and offers a hiking trail at the entrance. The camp site features a huge fire pit with fire wood included, multiple grills, multiple picnic tables, multiple benches around fire pit, on a shady piece of land filled with beautiful curvy tall trees. This site is large enough to accomidate 8 Campers. The ants and mosquitoes are minimal on this site. You may see deer, turtles, owls, squirrels, moths, salimanders, and armadillos. At night the crickets are singing along with the owls, and other birds.I rated only 4 stars because the public restrooms need to be pressure washed and bleach mopped. Not sanitary for people especially children. It would not take long to clean these restrooms, and cleanliness could eailsy be maintained. Restrooms are well stocked with paper towels, and toilet paper which was helpful.
We visited the playground and the trail attached. Playground is well shaded. Three different play areas, one for toddlers/preschoolers.We saw lots of Gopher tortoises here. We will be returning
Awesome mountain bike trails. Great place for all day fun
The park is gorgeous but were all done camping here, the camp bathrooms are disgusting. The showers need those nasty rubber mats pulled out and a full power washing to get rid of the dead bugs on the walls, not just a rinse with a dirty mop. Dont even get me started on the toilets. Otherwise, a nice park to spend a few hours.
Holloween event in 2020 was was very good for a drive thru. Very creative and made my children very happy.
Nice place to go for relaxation and quiet time. Plenty of trails, playground equip., parking and seating. Water access on some trails. Camping is available. ADA. Learning center. Quite nice.
I am completely obsessed with Starkey wilderness Park. It doesnt matter the time of day or day of week I always see wildlife. From deer to turtles to turkeys. There are so many trails I never walk the same one twice.
Love these trails, lots of parking. Going early before 8 means there are a lot of people on the trails. I found the sweet spot to be around 10, most people are leaving by that time so the space really opens up. Also has a great station for washing off MTB’s after going on the trails. Due to COVID there is no water being provided so make sure to bring plenty.
It was awesome! My daughter and i rode on the bike trail there, and then she played on their epic playground. She accidentally left her blood glucose monitor there, and the park supervisor Mark very graciously helped us get it after hours. The walking trails are wonderful, and the camping areas are beautiful. The staff is awesome as well. They have all sorts of activities ranging from night mountain bike rides to astronomy. You need to check this place out.
Starkey Park is the wilderness in this area! I definitely recommend going here for a walk, hike, bike, birding, herping (photos only), or other outdoor activities. The restrooms are clean and the playground is quite large. There are rattlesnakes here so be careful and wear the appropriate attire. Its worth the drive!
While the park is peaceful and serene, the trail markers are inadequate. Trying to follow the limited and poorly positioned signs is very challenging.
We visited the park for the trails and was not disappointed. Trail walkers for many levels- even ADA. Beautiful scenery!
Excellent playground area for the kids, 3 jungle gyms, 2 different swing sets. Gopher tortoises everywhere! Kids love coming here.
If you do not know JBS Wilderness park, you should...83,000 acres of Ahhh, peace and quiet! - right in the middle of everywhere.
We absolutely loved our day at this park. The park is large, so you dont often bump into people. It is also peaceful with just the occasional plane flying overhead, but no other city noise. This makes it the perfect place to escape and relax. There are many trails to explore, more than could probably be done in a single day. The downside is that the trails are poorly marked and if you dont have a good sense of directions, you may end up getting lost. Some areas even had signs that said trail but there was no trail in sight. We ended up walking along the cycling trails as they were a little better marked. There is no water available on the dirt trails (hiking or cycling), so make sure you take plenty with you (and a little extra incase you get lost). On the paved trail we did come across a water station which had ice cold water and paper cups available, this was a real treat. But dont count on these stations as we only saw one and it wasnt sign posted in any way. Another must for your trip is bug spray. The bugs were out in full force, so it would have been unbearable without bug spray. I would also highly recommend sunblock and a hat. Lastly, if you are taking a pet, please be sure that they are on a good flea and tick medication and check them afterwards. We found three ticks on our furbaby. All and all, it was a lovely experience and we hope to return soon.
Havent been to Starkey in a while. Went today with my GF and son to do some Geocaching and grill some lunch. It was great fun.
Awesome trails. We did the solar system trail today
Birthday parties here are fun. The directions are a little off when looking for pavilion 6. The grounds were kept clean but the bathrooms were a little dirty. There should be more swings because 2 infant swings at one park is not enough. Pavilions are just that. Parking is unorganized as well.
The place is huge. Lots of room to explore. The mountain bike trails are relatively easy with very little elevation to negotiate. But, still twisty and fun.
This is a great park. My kids and I walked through the nature trails and spent some time at the playground. It was clean and well maintained. They are already asking to go back.
Nice Huge beautiful park full of wildlife.
Wow! What a great park. Friendly staff, clean and Spacious sites, bath house are nice. No electric or water at the sites but it works for the spring. Site #13
Great place to have a picnic and nice walk.
A very nice place to bike or rollerblade
Mixed feelings about this park...It’s beautiful, large, has plenty of trails for hiking, biking, among other activities. I understand this is Florida, but a large part of the hiking trail is just straight sand. As if you’re walking on the beach. That’s not fun. My biggest problem though, and the reason for the 3 stars is that the trail markers are off. I confirmed it today when I compared the marker I was at to their trail map and my location on my phone. Perhaps there’s a printed map that is accurate, I read somewhere they redid the markers or something. I ended up on a 7 mile hike one day, which was not my intent with a 5 month old puppy.
Awesome park for the family! Went hiking on the trails with the kids..cant wait to come back and go camping next weekend.
Love hiking at the park. It is so peaceful most of the time.
Great backcountry hiking and paved bicycle trails. Campground is clean as are the shower and restroom areas. Clean cabins also available.
Ive been here on my road bike in the past. The wilderness trail connects to the Suncoast Trail. It is awesome. Now I want to bring my mountain bike since I saw they have some flow trails and a small skills area! Here I can develop my turning skills on the intermediate trails and practice small jumps at the Gnome Zone. Perfect!
Great park. Very well maintained!
Its a good place to walk or bike.
Great park with hiking trails, mountain bike trails, cabins, camping and paved bike trails.
I love riding my bike there. It’s so peaceful. I also take walks there and enjoy photographing the wild life.
The biking trails look best, would like to return and go for a spin. The pavilions are nicely tucked away. Did not stay long but I would visit again.
Great bike and hiking trails.
Camping 2 nights for our first time here. The camp spots are very large. All spots are shaded and woodsy, Spots 8,9,10 are a little more private than the others. Showers are hot, bathrooms are clean. Lots of motorcycles, helicopters & air plane noises at night unfortunately. But overall a beautiful spot especially for the price. We will be back :)
Really nice bike trail.
As beginner mountain bikers my 12 year old daughter and I had a blast. We rode 10 miles of offroad trails, most of which were easy but also enjoyable. Plenty of signs and maps around the park. Bring some snacks and water as you could easily make this a day trip.
I love walking the nature and birding trails here at the park. With many new trails being cleared I hope they update their trail map soon! It is easy to stray from the current marked trail and find yourself pretty far away on a new trail that connects with the horse trails. Some new markers and maybe even a you are here map at a few places would be very helpful!Be Prepared with Water and Bug Spray! Many trails have sugar sand so be prepared for a tough walk at some spots. It also reflects the sun making it feel pretty darn hot on the parts with no shade. However if you stay on the loop you can do a pretty short walk at 1.5 miles. Their are also a couple benches along the way to rest. Sometimes horseflies seem to follow you so watch out or wear your bug repellent!
Love it very cool place
Great park. Always quiet and a great place to relax.
This park includes a number of totally flat, very easy walks on a sandy logging road type of path with some single tracks options (primarily used by bikes) in the woods. The habitat is lovely, mystic swampland and lichen-bearded trees, lots of birds and probably gators. The loop trail system offers 1.9-mile 3-mile, and longer loop options up to almost 10-miles. There are a number of side paths to views of the Anclote River. I gave 4 stars for 1) the overly easy terrain (you wont break a sweat)(ok, its not Floridas fault that its flat) and 2) for some reason, the park closes at 6pm, which is kinda screwed for people with 9-5 schedules, who are stuck with the crowded weekends. I often hike at night with or without a headlamp, but instead I had to rush back to the trailhead so I didnt get locked in.
I love walking the trails here. Its so peaceful and quiet. Also a great place to throw a celebration or gathering (as I have done several times) They also have camping areas, which I have yet had the privilege of experiencing. And a play area for the kids, thats cute and fun.
This is always a great place to go and feel peaceful. I brought my grandpup, a 5 month old beagle. He had a great time walking on the edge of the bike path, smelling so many new scents.
Love Starkey! Our family spends lots of time here. Great amenities, lots of pavilions, awesome playground, tons of space for sports, etc.
Amazing park for bike riding
Loved it, the kids had a great time time they did not even used any swing sets they played in the woods in the trees the whole time like kids used to play. It was awesome to see that.
One of my favorite parks ever!!!! Jay B. Starkey is outstanding. I love to trail ride my bicycle throughout their 28 plus miles of trails. The paved trail through the park meets up with The Suncoast Bike Trail, which makes it convenient to get to St. Rts. 54 or 52. The parking in the park is outstanding and plentiful. Plus they have concrete restrooms and plenty of picnic tables for chilling and grilling! The park is a MUST see in Pasco Co.!!!
This is one of my favorite parks. It is so close yet with so much wildlife and wide open spaces. I come here to walk my dog and we see something new each time. Today he met his first box turtle. It enjoyed the scenery as it slowly, really slowly, ate the wild flowers letting us get very close to witness the wonders of nature. There are several attractions here but I really enjoy just wandering around. Thats what dogs do best so we both like it here.
What a great place to walk and enjoy hearing nothing but the sound of nature. Nice trails to hike on and paths to ride your bike. Theres a big playground for kids with restrooms. We saw lots of wild life while we were there as well.
My kids and I love visiting Starkey park. Whether its to go bicycling trailing or to play in the playground, its always a pleasant experience. One of those places my kids actually asked to go to.
We liked this park as a whole and it was very pretty. The reason for my 4 star rating is that alot of the trails had sand instead of gravel or hard ground. It was difficult to walk on these.
PLEASE GO!! Do yourself the pleasure of truly grounding!! Relaxing in a field of flowers, dragon flys, turtles, deer, butterflies... this place is truly magical!Come get away from busy life & relax amongst the trees & even rent a multi bunk bed log cabin (I believe was $30 a night back in the day. Ck for updated prices +/-) or pitch a tent much cheaper! Large chunks of logs are available for firewood too. Indoor running water & CLEAN Toilets & hot showers closer to the log cabins & along a trail further back. Beautiful place!Multiple festivals & bike races & even classes happen here. I loved growing up here! Covered areas for birthdays + hiking trails, long multi city long bike trail & horse trails. Caution coyotes at night. Heard but Ive never seen them myself. I know better than to walk the trails at night there.Have fun! ~°•♡•°~
Excellent place to get away from vehicles and get some good miles in
Great trails for biking, hiking, and spending time with family
Have always loved this park! Great playground area for different ages. Lots of trails. Bust enough that there are always other kids there for the kids to play with.
Great for hicking, exploring great disconnect from the noise and great to reconnect to nature
This park is beautiful & we seen so much wildlife..
This is a really great place. I was just there last Saturday and it was a really great Park. I was planning on camping here but decided to check it out first. After you make your way in make sure you stop buy the Kiosk to pay the $2 fee for parking. Also if your planning on hiking make sure you bring a GPS or a Map of the place. You can ask for a map but its only for the first 3 mile loop I think. After you pass the 3mile loop mark your on your own. I got lost many many times. Long story short. Bring a GPS. Also when you pass the 3mile loop mark theres not going to be a lot of coverage from the sun so make sure you bring lots of water. I only did 11 miles on my first visit here and cant wait to come back.
This is a great park for families with hiking, biking, and picnic areas. Our granddaughter loves the big playground with equipment for various ages
Its a beautiful park. Theres a lot of open space. Plenty of areas kids can run and leashed dog walks. Picnic and barbeque areas. Good for quiet times.
This place is great for nature hikes, bike riding, and bird watching. Has a good playground for kids. We saw 7 tortoise while hiking, and a baby snake, which surprised me because it was so hot the day we went.
Great park, very clean. Free entrance.Open early and close at 8pm everyday. Minus a because the office does not take any form of payment. Must make payments to three locations at certain offices or online. Website was not allowing me to book a tent site more than once.Hopefully the website gets fix soon.
Love this park its always clean and well maintained. 3 different play areas with different age appropriate sections. Plenty of swings. Get bored on the playground you can go walk the trails.
Starkey has a little bit of everything for everyone. The mountain bike trails are tame but they are still a lot of fun.As a cycling family, our main primary use is either MTB trails, or the road trail to access the Suncoast Trail. We enjoy the scenery and weve never had a bad experience out here. There are also plenty of family friendly activities throughout the year.
Its so amazing to see different animals along the hikes. I want to come back with my bike next time.
Stopped by to checkout the trails and fou d an awesome little Oasis with a huge playground for the littles. This is a fantastic little hidden gem tucked away off 19.
Love the hiking trails. Theyve done a good job of separating hikers, bikers, and horseback riders.
Every visit is a new experience. We have visited close to ten times and are still finding new trails and paths. To be clear, we love Starkey for the primitive trails. Though the paved trail is six miles amazing and then connects to the Suncoast Trail, the peace of the hiking trails is our draw. Turtles, deer, swamp rabbits, wild pigs and more abound. Ponds and lakes thick with lilly pads and cypress host varieties of birds and likely gators- havent seen any of those murder logs yet. Still on the list to explore are the visitor center, primitive campsite, and the star gazing nights.
I love taking my dogs here to walk the trails.
Always has been a great park for various activities, camping, walking, bike riding, birthday parties, photography, etc. Location is fantastic in relation to most of the area as well.
Never crowded and always peaceful! Trails dont leave much for the imagination, typical Florida sand and palmetto bushes for miles. Definitely bring water with you as there isnt any shade or places to stop for water close by once you get past the pavilions.
Great place to ride a bike either on a smooth paved path or explore the off-road trails.
Beautiful park with nice campsites and hiking trails. Very helpful staff as well.
Its a nice place to visit with kids. Plenty of places to explore.
Tucked away and kinda nice. So hot to enjoy for long...but that isnt any fault to place.. We had a nice time there
Nice, quiet, peaceful.. Easy to relax or just walk around and nature stroll. The few people around doing the same dont bother you.
This is a great trail, but be prepared to walk/run on sand. The sand hiking or paved walking/biking is scenic and relaxing.
Went to ride the bicycle on the 13 mile round trip paved trail. Much of ride is in direct sun so stay hydrated. Beautiful scenery. Can ride at full speed or do a leisurely cruise.
Great hiking trails, and bike trails, off road and on road, awesome place
I always love going here, the wild animals here are safe. People who visits here give respect and take care off wild animals they see...they dont bother the animals. This place has a nice play ground for kids. Big area to jog.
It was a rainy church cook out and we had Pavilion B. We were able to cook out and play games and eat and visit all under one roof. It was great! I also ride my bike there, they have great bike trails
I have went hiking here several times. They had a ‘scavenger hunt’ type game along the route that explained a little history (really cool) but it looks like some of it was destroyed by the fire which is sad. Beautiful hiking with bike trails. Playground area for kids, and pet friendly. Bathrooms were extremely well kept. Bring plenty of water with you. They also have a Christmas light show if interested with kids. I believe the fee is two dollars. This parks has a lot to offer.
Beautiful park!
Beautiful and well kept. My son loves the solar walk. From the sun to Neptune the solar system is spaced proportionally
Really great place to get back to nature! Great trails with guideposts along the way. Great for long walks. Definitely wear shoes or boots. Bug spray (natural) might be wise for mosquitoes.
We absolutely love this park. We’ve attended the archery lessons for the last couple of months and a Rick and Mary have been absolute legends in hosting these for everyone. It’s been a wonderful way to enjoy some great family time and learn a new sport together. Thank you.
Nice park. Good camping spots. They need more activities for kids. The bike trail is nice
Great park! Awesome park rangers and lots of planned activities for the general public. Highly recommended. :)
Love the walking space and it beautiful
I have been camping here for the last decade. The cabins are always nice and clean. Each comes with a bench, fire pit, grill, and table. Always a fun! The trails here are also great. The paved biking trail is usually only moderately and connects with the Suncoast trail after about 6 miles. The hiking trails are also wonderful. Unpaved and well marked the full trail is about 10 miles but there are some smaller loops for younger kids. Definetly my favorite park in the area.
Great park, safe and spacious!
