I love bringing my kids up here for long walks and playing at the creek. Today we found a little hidden side trail and went exploring. The scenery was beautiful, and even though I slipped and sprained my ankle we all had a great time. We took a bunch of pictures and will be back for more when we can. It can get a little crowded at times but on a Monday afternoon it was nearly empty.

Lovely river walk or bike ride along a wonderfully cool, tree lined path, even on the hottest of days. Plenty of parking with a port-a-potty in the car park. Picnic benches and seating scattered all along the approx 12 mile Greenway. Vehicle access to river so you can unload kayaks, lots of places to let kids cool off and play in the river. Fishing is allowed though I dont know if you need a fishing license. Take water if you plan on walking a while as there is no water along Greenway. Great place to walk dogs with a grass verge so they dont burn their feet on very hot days and they can take a cool dip in the river. There is a very well maintained and dog size sectioned, dog park around 1.5 miles from Thompson trailhead, which has an obstacle course as well as its own car park. Close to historical sites.

Currently, this is the northernmost point of the greenway. Its nice to jump on here and take as long of a ride as you need. Hopefully Murfreesboro will connect it to the Walter Hill greenway soon.

Calm and peaceful place. Even with all the rain we have had lately, was still able to see and take some pictures of some of the wildlife.

There are several nice Trailheads around the Nashville, Murfreesboro área. However none best the Murfreesboro network of greenways. They are well kept, beautiful scenery and Friendly people. If you start at the Thompson Lane Trailhead, the greenways runs completely across Murfreesboro and Beyond. I love It and go every chance my wife and i get. Try it. I assure you youll go back for more!!

☆This review was corrected on January 3, 2019 after I re-read it and found that I put the description of three separate trailheads together. I apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused anyone.☆Ive been visiting the Thompson Lane Trailhead and the trail head off West college street and connecting greenway trail(s) off, and on, since 1996.The W. College street trailhead has plenty of parking, a spacious covered picnic area including several long and/or divided picnic tables as well as play ground for the younger children. While also offering very well maintained bathroom facilities and a cold water drinking fountain. There is plenty of well maintained grassy areas for people of all ages to use a place for light sports like, frisbee, or playing pitch - with a ball and glove, or, any family friendly park-like games.(Connecting to the Stones River battlefield behind Murfreesboro Outdoors)With the clearing of the (originally fenced off dirt path) where the trail previosly stopped, (or started from), at the concrete canoe/kiyack ramp into the Stones River waters back in the 1990s, hiking/walking enthusiests can directly walk from this the Thompson Lane trail head just a very short walking distance to the back entrance of the location marked with a tall monument and cannons set in place honoring the brave soldiers who fought and died there in January of 1863.When a fierce battle between Union and Confederate Soldiers had 1800 human casualties in just three days! The beauty of the Stones River running its course along the trail, makes it hard to imagine that at one point it was a place of such violence, and tragedy. The City of Murfreesboro, and, County of Rutherford, Tennessee gained an ir-replaceable asset, when the greenway trail(s) were built and by providing informational stands that are marked with photos and written descriptions of the Battle of Stones River, or sometimes called The Battle of Murfreesboro, and what reportably happened at the very or, nearby location(s) you are standing as you read historical accounts of the great decisive Civil War battle.Anyway you call it! The trailheads and scenery along the trail, definately was/is, a great addition to Murfreesboro (since its inception.)Which allows a place for residents and visitors to relax, fish, walk, and enjoy the serenity that it brings. Can you tell I love it??!!

A great starting point for an easily measurable (distance) workout. Beautiful right on the river, I see all kinds of birds, turtles, squirrels all along here. Its the cleaner end of the Greenway, once you get down past a certain point it gets trashy. So instead of getting on at the trashy part which is closer to my house, I drive to Thompson Lane to workout
