I have always gone to Frelinghuysen Arboretum to admire their beautiful gardens but because today was a warm but late fall day, I spent a bit of time on the trail (one mile), great for families. All the flora is always immaculately maintained. All staff I have come in contact with, extremely friendly.

A really beautiful place to spend a few hours relaxing and viewing the gardens. The gardens are beautiful with wonderful brick paths to walk and benches to sit on. There are a large variety of well maintained flowers and bushes. Simply a beautiful spot. There are a few Gazebos for shade and also sunny areas for warmth on a chilly day. Outside the arboretum area there are nice walking trails and a couple of large grassy areas. Theres also plenty of parking making this an easy to access location to spend time walking or viewing the flowers with family or friends.

It was right under our nose and we did not get a hint of it. we visited one fine afternoon with parents. parking is easy to find. Stop at the visitor center and the roam this beautiful garden.Enjoy a picnic on the Great Lawn, take memorable family photographs under the Rose Garden Arbor, celebrate a wedding under a reservable tent, read a book next to a water feature, tour the Carriage House, and be amazed at the historic horse-drawn carriages. it was straight from 70s Cowboy movies.Frelinghuysen Mansion situated in the park looks great, but it was closed. the rose garden just beside it, was beautiful. This breathtaking site also offers a wedding. The first Sunday of every month, a free tour of the grounds is offered at 2 p.m., leaving from the Education Center. Monthly art exhibits provide interest when you need a respite from spring rains. The first weekend in May, The Friends of the Frelinghuysen Arboretum’s Annual Plant Sale fills the big tent with carefully selected, well-bred plants.

The one of the nicest Arboretums I have been to. Such a beautiful place and so well taken care of. The layout of the property is great with long and short walks showing off all kinds of different plants, bushes, flowers and trees. I loved how everything was labeled so you can learn what the flowers and trees are. It was also free which was awesome.

Another beautiful free place to visit in New Jersey.Went for a walk through the gardens and enjoyed the plant varieties. Most plants were labeled which was nice. The blooming flowers change as the seasons change so visiting throughout the year would make for a different experience.A wedding was taking place during the visit. So, some areas were off limits for a short time. They have special events throughout the year.

Truly excellent garden space with wooded hiking trails. Frelinghuysen Arboretum has wonderful formal gardens, many benched areas to sit and relax, and is on the Patriots Trail. Google Maps conveniently shows the trails in the arboretum, and the picturesque Whippany River that goes through the property.Frelinghuysen Arboretum is one of New Jerseys gifts to the world. The photos I have posted show just some of the gardens, flowers and quiet places to sit here.Logistical information: there appears to be quite a bit of parking, although all venues might attract a swell of people at times. Ive never had a problem parking in the several times I have visited there. The entry is on E. Hanover Rd. I mention this, because, once, my car GPS took me to the Whippany Rd. gate which is an exit from the Park. Heh, my car GPS is not Google Maps. Youll have no problem if you use Google Maps on your phone. If you are visiting from out of the NYC area, its an easy drive from NYC along I-80, or I-78, to I-287 to get there. And while youre at it, scan around the area on Google Maps to see more treasures to visit in the area. You will deeply enjoy your time spent at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum.

This is a fabulous location for racking up your requisite steps (my husband) or admiring the pretty flowers (me). And its FREE. There are restrooms in the visitors center, and a cafe that serves drinks and snacks. Trails are clearly marked and easy, but some may be a bit too hilly for the casual or somewhat challenged walker.

We had my daughters 4th birthday party here. It was amazing! We did a fairy hunt in the gardens. The kids had a blast looking for fairy doors and their fairies. Afterwards they learn how to properly plant a flower and get to keep it as well. (It attracts fairies-how cute is that)And another amazing fact - the price! nowhere else are you going to find a place that gives you so much time, for so many kids, for such a low price. And everyone that I worked with there was absolutely amazing. We truly had a great time.

Its always good to take walk through the arboretum in the early spring. I think we went about a week or two too early though. There were a couple of things in bloom, but its going to get way better as we get closer to May.The Morris County African Violet Club was doing a little show in the main building that was free to the public, They had quite a few interesting specimens on display that I had never seen before. Not that Ive seen that many to begin with. It might be a good idea to look into other events that coincide with your visit.A great little place to take a walk, have a picnic, and just get outdoors on a nice day.

Went to walk the trails on a lovely Sunday afternoon. The red trail from the parking lot is a disaster. Deep ruts, large unstable rocks, and steep downhill slope. Once it levels off into a meadow, the walk is peaceful, quiet, and bug-free. Junctions of trails are not well marked, but having a printout of the trail map from the website is a big help. Not sure if I would return.

Def a wonderful place in a pretty busy area.
