Fantastic tour! Our tour guide was pleasant and knowledgeable. The house is amazing and much of the furnishings are original - not replicas. If you enjoy touring historical mansions - this one is a must.

This Plantation Home is an incredible display of Rich history and culture. Of course slaves operated this Plantation and that is a sad shameful part of American history. Nonetheless the home is incredible inside and out. It has been modernized a bit with air conditioning smoke sensors, cameras and various other detection devices and these are the reasons I dont give it five stars. I do realize how hard it is to maintain a property of that age without some modern technology intervention. The home is well kept and the grounds are well-kept and there are awesome photo opportunities.

Beautiful mansion...I used to pass this every single day on the way to and from work and its one of those places that you truly cant take enough pictures of! Its been MANY years since I have been able to tour the inside of the house, and I hope to be able to do it soon. But...about 9 years ago I was able to bring my daughter up early in the morning for a little Christmas photo shoot which was so great! They were having a meeting inside & couldnt figure out who was walking around the front patio haha...they came out & were VERY gracious about it and still allowed us to take more pictures on the grounds. Really nice people and always an incredible venue and important piece of Mobiles 300 year old history!

Was under renovation so the outside was being worked on.took the inside tour and our gal was such a sweetheart, retired southerner with alot of knowledge of the area. I was thrilled with this tour, to see furnishings from the 1800s, old photos, hear the history of this mansion...incredible. 300 year old oak trees that are gorgeous. Take the time, its only $10 for a step back in time and a good history lesson.

Can I give it a zero? Rang doorbell at 10:05, took tour lady 3 more minutes to get to the door. She opened it to tell me that they can only give tours on the hour and I was the only car in the entire parking lot! She then just closed the door! I am not a local so guess what I will not support your museum. Covid should not have taken away your southern hospitality.

Absolutely lovely place! It is like taking a walk through history. It is best to call or check there web site before to make sure they are not having a private tour, but it is completely worth a visit!!

Update: 1Feb 2020, Sat.,11:31am: I just found that tea plate and was not looking for it. Check out the photo inside the cupboard.Update: 18 Nov 2019: I still cannot find that plate.Update: Last night, Thur, 13 Jun 2019, I am using the little cup to drink tea and look for the plate. I look, look, look, and look. The plate cannot be found...ANYWHERE!!!I had the plate and saucer out of the cupboard earlier in the week, maybe Sunday. I am the only person here. Yet, the plate is no where to be found. I am heartbroke and disappointed that it could mystetiously disappear. Then I look for the medical alert neck unit and it has disappeared. I am seen on the security camera wearing it at 9 am, Mon, 3 Jun 2019 when I go out, but came back wearing work clothes about 7 pm without the neck unit. I looked, looked, and looked at both homes and it, too, cannot be found. Two Disappearing Objects Phenomon (DOP).I have been robbed about 6 times:3 times at Tanger Mall (safe with Mikimoto cultured pearl necklace with marquis diamond clasp in blue pesentation folder & a blue stone encrusted cross, (Dec 2014), a 2015 $20 Victoriana calendar (Jan) and a black legal folder with all my legal documents (Nov 2015));I was pickpocket at Food World (now Piggly Wiggly) $18 in money clip engraved with my initials in my mothers red change purse; One time at Walmart ( my deceased mothers silk scarf) (1999);One time at St Margaret Catholic Church (black leather tote with 2 priceless family geneology books that took 14 years to research, then bind and print (Jan 2019);One time at Parents home (2 black solar lampost lights, Jan 2017);One time at Warerfront Mission (prescription wire rim eyeglasses) when they first opened the store in Foley; One time at Council on Aging (April 2018 (expensive prescription sun glasses in the office I used (Apr 2018). I Checked back 3 seperate visits for them.)( One year later the prescription sunglasses reappeared in their confrence room in Jan 2019. Guess they got tired of trying to wear someone elses prescription sunglasses.).I know where to go to relpace the plate. All the other items I cannot replace.Great tour. Cost is $10 for adults aged 12 and above. $5 for age 5 to age 12 or 11. Wish they allowed photos inside. Here is a photo of a tea set I purchased for $19.80. Nice tour. They recovered the mirror from a building in New York City. The building was vacant 10 years and many original items were removed. The mirrors were recovered because the name was on the back of the mirrors.

Situated away from the centre of Mobile and with a most impressive facade, the house is well worth seeking out. Visits take place on the hour, and last c. 60 minutes.Although not a plantation house, this was initially the winter abode of its owner, and was lived in as a home until the second half of the 20th century. It has been significantly restored in recent years and the signs of continuing maintenance on the day that we visited were gratifying to see. Our guide (Irene) was welcoming and knowledgeable and provided interesting anecdotes to illustrate the history of this impressive home: the recovery in New York of the four large ornate mirrors that grace the large ballroom is just one of these.Do take time to walk in the grounds and admire the large old oak trees that surround the house.

A beautiful hidden treasure among us. Ive traveled springhill ave many times over but Ive never been here. The mansion is well preserved. I found out theres tours Tuesday-Friday between 10:00am to 3:00pm. The mansion does close at 4:00pm. Im told Christmas is the best time to tour. In my opinion, anytime you go its beautiful. Did I mention the beautiful grounds and fountains? I strongly recommend this wonderful mansion.

You have to wait Outside until the top of every hour to tour the house. The tour was given by a Very Nice Lady, but she was dressed in sweatpants and a t-shirt. If I am spending $10 and expected to wait outside, I think the very least that I could expect is the person giving the tour to be dressed in business casual attire. The tour seems rushed. The other lady who answers the door should have been expected to do more and if she did they wouldnt have to rush people out the door. Until this changes I suggest people tour the Richards DAR house FIRST!!! You arent rushed there, they Always answer the door and are properly dressed.

The house is wheelchair accessible, there is an elevator inside the house. Parking is FREE on site. Cameras are not allowed inside, but welcomed on the outside. The Downtown MODA! Shuttle does not pass by this attraction. This is a beautiful home and you can just feel the presents of the pass in this home.

Beautiful and great story behind the mansion! If youve not been, and have even the slightest interest in architecture, History, and are up for a little adventure, dont miss this! Very Reasonable price to go through it and you move quickly enough to stay interested, and the guide is lovely! Teenagers enjoyed it also. So yay! Something the whole family likes.

I absolutely loved this venue for my wedding. This workers were all so helpful, enjoyable and so knowledgeable. Honest, the workers couldn’t have been better. The setting is a southern beauty and I was so happy to have my wedding here. I only wish that we were able to have the rental for the full day of the wedding or been able to set up the night before. The 8 hours were not enough time for decorations and set up... Besides this I couldn’t have been happier with my experience.

I would recommend calling ahead if youre interested in a tour. I came with my family, a large group of 15 from Iowa, visiting Mobile for the day. We arrived a little after 3:00, assuming that would be alright since they didnt close until 4:00. Unfortunately for us, we werent able to enter the home or tour the inside of the house as the tour guide and staff were leaving for the day since they hadnt received many visitors that day. The staff member we spoke with encouraged us to tour the grounds. This is a truly magnificent site in person, and upon entering the grounds, we were awe-struck. The grounds and garden were incredible, and I would have loved to learn more of the history of this place.

It was a wonderful experience to get an up close and person view of the Mansion. The outside was in need of repair, our tour guide was friendly but difficult to understand for us northern folk. We also learned little of the history - family of the Home. Mostly details of items found in the home. More of a museum of types. I believe it will improve. No photos allowed mad it hard to share the experience with others and no post cards or photos to purchase.
