A walk through the cemetery is a lesson in Civil War history and the impact it had on families and communities. The cemetery is organized by state, with burials from all Confederate states. Efforts to protect and maintain the cemetery also are commemorated with statues and inscriptions on the many benches. The neighboring City Cemetery includes a plot where slaves are buried. A scenic overlook from neighboring Brown Park offers a great view of Kennesaw Mountain. The new location of the Gone with the Wind Museum is an easy walk across the street, allowing an extended visit of movie and real history. A walking and bike trail connects the cemetery to downtown Marietta, a short 1-mile walk thats NOT recommended in the heat and humidity of the Georgia summer.
A place that will take you back through time to learn more about our history...that was a trumbling times full of tears scars sorrow blood and glory...Gral. George Pickett failed to take the bridge at Gettysburg....his Division of 15,000 men was gone in less than 2 hrs...as they got exposed at short range artillery & shrapnel from the Union sildiers when they first came out of the bushes while charging against the Union lines....the war was fought for the independence of the Confederate States of America...a country that wasnt meant to be...Theres no country without history as theres no achievement with no sacrifice...but we have to remember that all gave some and some gave all....Never ever let anybody erase manipulate or destroy your history.
Amazing and historic cultural venue hidden away in the center of Marietta. They walked where we walk and fought in this deeply divided country, both sides leaving wounds that may never heal. So many lessons about our American heritage, culture, values and identity with the promise of compassion, understanding and love between all our sisters and brothers.
We go to both the Confederate Cemetery and to the Union Cemetery in Marietta, GA at least once a year - to thoughtfully honor veterans who died for what they believed were just causes for their country. We live in a time of self-centered gratification - and its good for the soul to know that some people were so dedicated to what they believed that they were willing to die for the cause.
One of my fa favorite places in Marietta, and I spent 45 years living there. Please, give this place some time and walk and read bench to bench. The artwork is spectacular. An amazing walk through history.
Im glad that the Yankee real estate developers that put so many ghetto apartments in the Marietta area didnt get their hands on this piece of property. It is however a nice park that people can go to get away from the crowd.
Excellent place to feel the vibe of our American heritage
Very nice cemetery.
Great first date spot!
A wonderful memorial to all of those who tried to save our once great country.
Great park and cemetery that is still in modern use.
Very interesting. I was moved. My great great grandfather is buried in the Alabama section.
Got a tour recently that was very informative. Even though this is a chapter of American history that isnt pretty.
We like this park.
A must see.
Rich in history, not the most fun history to talk about, but there is tons to digest.
A must see
Must stop destination for everybody, not just history buffs.
