Favorite place to walk my dog. Easy access to the river and we often see wildlife or their tracks. Never made it all the way to the Amherst entrance. But its wonderful walk, no matter the seasob

Great nature trail in Lynchburg. Probably the best play for a family friendly walk around place in this area. Good for a walk, jog or even bike ride. Connects to a historic Lynchburg area with lots of cafes and restaurants to eat. So eat and walk the calories off right away in the park. :)

Took the family for a walk and it was great. We saw lots of deer, took some great pictures and it was fun for all 5 kids age range 13 to 1.

The River Walk was so cool. Walking across the bridge that the trains once used brought you back in time. Lynchburg is a old city that has a Rustic industry feeing to it.

This is a beautiful walk. It was fairly clean, and not incredibly crowded, even on a beautiful day 74 degrees out. We walked this for about 2 hours me and some friends, I would recommend this as an excellent walking or biking path if you enjoy that sort of thing.

Beautiful walking trail. It’s flat and paved which is great for biking, skating, jogging, or just walking. It’s also a great place to take your dog for a walk. Really love it. Only reason I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is when walking off the main trail onto one of the smaller ones that go into the woods to get close to the river you need to be careful. I’ve seen adults doing things that are not appropriate for kids to see.

We come for a photoshoot for the wife. Its a beautiful area with so many opportunities for photography and the surrounding buildings.

Not what we were expecting. A good place to go to if youre from a city type atmosphere. Being from a more rural area it was too much city for us. We still enjoyed our walk along the Blackwater Creek trail to Percivals Island.. that trail is a great place for kids and bike riding.

Great place for a casual walk in the park. All the trail systems in this area are great for just walking with someone you care about and talking as you enjoy the weather and the beauty of nature. Ive seen plenty of deer, squirrels, cats, birds, and other wild animals here. Even during the winter, when everything is dormant, these trails never disappointed me. Theyre well kept, and if you like to spend time enjoying the little things in life, this is the place for you.

I really love their beautiful spots especially walking along in the bridge. It makes me calm and relax while embracing the freshness of the air.

Tranquility on the James!!! You can stop to relax on a bench as you stroll down the paved and/or wooded trails that follow the James River. The two bridges that go over the river offer phenomenal views and great photo opportunities.

This place is really nice. I got within 10 feet of two deer, a doe and a very young buck with knobs for antlers. Nice side trails and courteous older bicyclists. Most of the younger females were rude and stuck up, act like youre not even there when all you say is hi, or good morning. No help for this generation. The trail was well maintained and clean, help keep it clean by picking up your own trash and any that you see

Beautiful trail nestled along the river. An old train trestle forms a river walk for hiking, biking...a must see.

Stayed at an Airbnb across the street. Awesome urban trail. Wide and paved. Enjoyed exploring the area and the old structures off the side trails. Saw three deer grazing on the main trail.Area has a good mix of nature and downtown. Would highly recommend.

Its a convenient shaded trail for fresh air exercise like walking & jogging. And the deer and river are pleasant scenery.

This is a beautiful walk right in the downtown area. It can be somewhat crowded depending on the day. Great views of the river and city, especially at dawn and dusk. Its a good place for running, biking, walking, or just hanging out with friends. Great area!

A wonderful natural corner. You can run across many species of autoctonous fauna.

Main path is level and paved, trees, two bridges so you completely cross the James River. Keep your dogs leashed and kiddos close to share safely with bicyclists. You can walk off the paved path many places to get along the river Easy walk a block from downtown, busy even crowded on nice weekends.

Very good area for biking or jogging. Beware of insects though. Happy working out.

Great secluded walking, hiking and bike trails. Also there are quite a few benches and picnic tables strategically placed. Wild life is abundant. Deer were especially docile. My wife was able to sweet talk to a young buck on the trail. Great place to get out and get some fresh air.

This place is pretty cool to ride bike in the summer and spring my bike. A good way to get out and see some scenery along the Blackwater Creek and the and explore the trails love it

Percivals Island is a nice, simple walking trail. It is mostly shaded so its really nice even on the hot days. The trail is a few miles long and goes over two bridges that cross the James. The trail is wide and flat which makes it great for families.

A really nice path. Only went a little over a mile down but it was awesome. Will go back to walk there more. Had joggers and biking. Everybody we encountered along the way were friendly and considerate of us walking.

Great pathways for walking, running or biking. Well maintained and scenic to boot. Anytime of the year fun outdoor activity to be enjoyed by all.

Great place to reflect, nature hike or bike! Paved trails, bridge across the river, scenic, beach-ish areas and portable bathroom stalls at the beginning of the trail. Come skip stones across the water, find a shady bench to sit on or add to your exercise regime! Also come take pictures with the iconic Love sign!

Beautiful downtown James River walkway as well as well maintained and safe for runners, families and fishermen who can walk to find hidden areas for smallmouth bass. Do not eat fish from this area. PCB warning . Have also caught Gar, Catfish, Walleye on rare occasions.

Its beautiful for those people who really enjoy nature. It wasnt exactly what I thought it was before we went and did not wear the proper shoes. So do your research before you go because the trail is very long!!You have to go back the way you came in...there is no loop, so if you walk all the way to the end you will have to turn around and go all the way back!

Its a walking biking path with trees and bushes that is paved not much to see.

Try the wooded trails for your next run! Always a good addition, for a quick Bridge to Bridge and back run!

This was a beautiful trail. We rented bikes from a nearby(walking distance) bike shop and had a great time riding the trail. At some parts the trail was a little slim on space ants lots of people. Easy to get around. Havent rode a bike in a long time agnes it was heavenly.

Nice natural area right beside downtown. Leads into a fairly long paved trail and has a network of unpaved foot trails around the island.

Beautiful! Love this place! Lots of scenic places to stop off the paved path for say, a picnic or swimming. Definitely a nice park to visit.

One of Lynchburgs crown jewels. Beautiful all year round for biking, walking, running, fishing and hanging out. Lots of restaurants in walking distance after your recreation.

Beautiful place, and a great paved trail for bikers and walkers alike. There is some good fishing spots that I frequently visit off of the trail with easy access. Its really easy to catch panfish and there are definitely largemouth lurking around. Just beware of any snakes if you go onto the dirt trails.

Had the snacks I wanted at a good price for the road trip we were taking.

Lovely, scenic island in the middle of the James River. Walk, run or bike along the Black Water Creek Trail and you will end up here! It is gorgeous and quiet place right off the river of downtown Lynchburg. Great for families.

Breathtaking natural area with space to walk, run, bike, hike, and get down to boat access on the James River. Flat and paved for adventurers of all kinds. Parking very limited on busy days, but Downtown Lynchburg provides nearby public lots.

Shady boardwalk to the bridge. A couple of walking and biking tails off the boardwalk. There is an area of the bridge where people have locked locks!

Great place to go on casual walk or run. Nature was nice and trails were long. The tail we were on was also paved and wide which made it great for biking and easy to pass people walking.

Excellent walking and biking only down side is lack of bathrooms (couple portable toilets is all that is available)

The river was flowing nice- cool visuals and also sounds while walking over bridge that has lookout. Nice family walk. There are joggers, bikers, great scenery.

Great walking path! It is the flattest area on Lynchburg. Nearby is a bike store that rents bikes and is a good place for a family to take kiddos to learn or practice biking. It is about 3 miles out to the furthest point of the area, but connects to over 10 more miles of paths and trails.
