The museum isnt currently open to the public, but when they reopen they have a very cool suffrage exhibit they will be displayed. Also they have allowed James River Theatre Compnay to hold their performances of Much Ado About Nothing. Great place to visit and theatre company was quite talented.
This is an awesome place to visit the staff is extremely knowledgeable. They have self guided tours daily. interactive displays and lots of local history. If your new to the area or if your just curious about Lynchburg this is the place to go. Did I mention it’s kid friendly my kids love going here and with rotating monthly exhibits there’s always something new to learn and explore.
The exhibits are diverse and carefully curated, staff is very helpful and the setting in downtown Lynchburg is exceptional. As a newcomer to Lynchburg the permanent collection really helped me understand my new home.
Quaint little museum. Theres a really pretty piano they encourage you to play
Beautiful place to visit
Very nice place to visit! A must see when youre in the area! I loved the whole town, very historic!
Very nice museum. The three floors arent large but theres a good amount to see. Free admission too.
A nice small museum with a lot to learn about the local history of Virginia.
Its okay. Lots to learn and look at and read about. I think if there was a tour guide that it would have been a lot more interested, but I know its a museum so thats not really possible.
Didnt go into the museum. Its the best spot for pokestops. 5 stars because the people were nice and didnt mind us hanging out on the steps in the shade.
Very good exhibits. Would be nice to have more about the non-white, non-wealthy people of the city. Also, enough with the Civil War. We got it.
A free, interesting Museum. A must do if youre in Lynchburg
Love American history! Very unique town with a great history! The town of Lynchburg Virginia was spared during the civil war and the historic district is beautiful. The museum is a great collection of items from bygone days from the late 1700s into the 1900s. If you love history, you will love this museum and the surrounding historic district. If you love our shared history, you will love this area. Come see it!
Did you know two of the columns above Monument Terrace used to contain weights that were the clockworks for the old clock? So many interesting stories of area history. Chauncey Spencers story in the aviation exhibit was amazing. Check it out.
We came across this little museum while walking around downtown. It gave an interesting perspective on the development of Lynchburg. Worth a look if you have an hour to spare. Did I mention that its free, so even if you dont like it your not out any money.
Very nice museum. Volunteer, Ed, was very knowledgeable and courteous.
We enjoyed visiting the museum. Walk through at the pace you choose. Various history items to learn and appreciate. They only ask for a donation and your time to complete a questionnaire.
Loved learning about my home!
A great Museum from Lynchburg, not crowded and there is the history of the city from the beginning until today. Even an Astronaut is from Lynchburg...! Things to be a proud city that preserve the history. The staff was great also!
Free.Very informative and attractive displays. Their exhibit on Lynchburg in WW1 was fascinating to me. Quite extensive exhibit on the history of firefighting & the city fire department. One caveat: this is not disability access friendly *as far as I could tell*. Lots of stair climbing. If you are disabled, you might wanna phone to find out. Id love to learn that I just wasnt very observant.
Great, free museum to go to if you want to know about the history of Lynchburg. Very knowledgable staff that are very happy to have a good conversation about the area and history about it.
Its befitting to place a museum in a historical building and that is what Lynchburg City has done. The museum is in the Old Courthouse and is set up to show off the best of Lynchburg city. I went all through the museum and was captivated the moment I stepped in. It is designed for someone to understand Lynchburg and I would recommend for anyone to go. I loved it!
The fountain, stairs and mueseum are all in perfect line. Amazing place.
Great place to learn about the town. A ton of information and very helpful, welcoming staff.
Youve got to take in account what this place is. It is not the Smithsonian. However they do a fantastic job with the Local history along with showcased exhibits. Beautiful building with interesting architecture. Check out the gargoyles.
The city of Lynchburg Virginia has a very interesting history from the revolution to the space shuttle. Its free and another must see attraction if you are in the area.
Great place & fun! It is right next to the Courts downtown Lynchburg VA
It is a great place to learn about the history of Lynchburg.
Quaint. Informative. And free.
Free! Current exhibitions include some of the history of Lynchburg firefighting and how World War I affected the city.Knowledgeable people are very helpful.Only drawback I found was lack of parking. No lot -- all parking is on-street and can be hard to find nearby.
Cute museum and its free. If your into history and looking for a cute and cheap date idea, its worth a trip. But maybe not two...
Saw their advertisement on TV and desided to check it out, went on Saturday morning and spent about 2 hours looking and talking to the ladies working there. If you like history you will enjoy this museum. Lynchburg is a great place to live and visit. Take a trip to the old courthouse and learn about what our forefathers did so we can live like we do today.
The staff are excellent, especially Emily K.!!! The museum is beautiful and the exhibits are top notch. Also, the building itself has so much character and charm.
Lots of history about Lynchburg. Nice place to stop into if you want to kill a little time
If you like history was an interesting place to visit and had free admission. We enjoyed it.
Super friendly staff. A great look at the history of the Hill City
This place is amazing! If your love of history finds you here.. youll be in your glory! Im planning on visiting again w my children!
Great local museum and its free.
Very nice place to visit very informative
Although this town and region credits its very existence to the lucrative tobacco industry of the 1700s and 1800s, which is covered extensively, the almost no mention of the tragedy of American Slavery that made all this possible! African Americans, a dominant part of this regions culture and history are mentioned only in passing ... Shameful and Sad
Great museum in historic courthouse. Interesting, wide-ranging items on display.
So cool! Lots to learn. So much I didnt know about my own town. Everyone should go
Very well organized nice staff
There are many interesting artifacts about the history of not only Lynchburg but our country. It is interesting to see things that you may have a personal connection with.
Exceptionally educational for elementary schools.

Excellent exhibits and professionally maintained. Highly recommended for a visit.
The Lynchburg musium is a must see for those interested in our towns history. On three floors, and separated by several rooms you have artifacts of Lynchburg history stretching nearly from its inception, lots of information about the civil war, and lots on the development of the town.
