Covid-19 precautions were better than expected. Mask was provided and I felt safe even without one due to ticketing policies and good area spacing. Great and safe activity during the Pandemic (and after ).
Most attractions were closed (due to covid), so at least it wasnt crowded. You need to purchase tickets in advanced too, in case youre thinking of going. The beignets were amazing! But dont try to get a cup of coffee, every place was either out or didnt serve it. When we finally found a place (that had coffee on their sign), they were all out.
Great zoo! During COVID they are requiring people to wear face masks and to move only one way through the zoo which was incredibly helpful. You make one big loop of the zoo and see everything. Most of the indoor exhibits were closed, but all of the outdoor ones were allowing guests. A couple were monitored by staff to help keep the flow. Over all a great zoo, with lots of very cool animals and exhibits!!
Great family zoo with lots of fun special events they do too. Boo at the Zoo is always great!
It was amazing added so many new exhibits absolutely one of the best places to spend the afternoon at, only problem was the sun and the heat but thats not the zoos fault!
The Boo at the Zoo did an excellent job this year during the covid-19 concern. Selling limited amount of tickets per night made us feel safe to attend.Candy was great and packaged well. Also riding all the rides for admission price and not charging extra was a classy move
Pretty good zoo overall and lots of larger type animals. Only huge downside was none of their indoor exhibits (aquarium, meta zoo) were open due to insane covid restrictions that make no sense
Walkable nice zoo but many exhibits closed due to COVID. Sad to see several large animals such as polar bears in solitary enclosures.
Even during the restrictive conditions caused by COVID, there is so much to see here. This zoo rivals zoos in much larger cities in terms of both atmosphere and exhibits. The path is well-marked and there is nice and wide. There are skip paths, if you want a shorter route. The staff was all welcoming and friendly. Ill definitely be back once this COVID stuff is over!
We recently visited the Louisville Zoo for the evening lantern exhibit. There was much more to see than we expected. There were lanterns everywhere. The zoo did a really good job of spreading things out and making sure people could social distance.I like that they only sell a limited number of tickets to hold down on the crowd.Wait till it is really dark to go. The lanterns are much more impressive when the sun is completely down.
We love the Louisville Zoo!! Sucks a lot of things are closed and Halloween is all sold out but its still a lot of fun and props are set up so you can do pictures and see them during the day!!
It was really good but due to covid it restricted the amount of animals we could see, overall good experience.
I love the zoo. We went today. I ordered tickets online, to get there at 2:00. When we arrived, we find out the zoo closed at 3:00. We had until 4:00 to exit. When I ordered tickets online, it didn’t mention this. When we entered the zoo, it was all one way traffic. Anyway a lot of the exhibits were closed, or you couldn’t see the animals. We still had to pay full price. Seems they would slash the prices if they are going to slash the exhibits. I understand it’s mainly for the virus. My question is if they are closing exhibits. Why not close the gift shop, or places to get food. Anyway mostly had a good time with my family.
VISIT THE LOUISVILLE ZOO! Support our local Zoo while exploring the beautifully landscaped exhibits and enjoying this especially entertaining experience! My family has always loved going to our Zoo!
Going in on a cold Monday morning, I started out pretty disappointed that after 15-20 minutes into the one-way loop around the park, I hadnt seen any animals! Between Covid and the cold, several exhibits were closed or empty. But eventually, I got to the good stuff - the seals and bears, big cats, and elephants. It takes about 2 hours to go around the whole loop, and I decided to do a quicker walk-through again to see if any extra animals had shown up and was able to see the fun penguins and see the tiger better. It was less crowded the second time around as well.Keep in mind, the dining options are very limited right now, when I was there, only one snack counter at the front and the African Outpost over halfway through were open, and the Outpost only had grab and go sandwiches and some hot soups available. The carousel is open but not the train or the tram.In all, I was able to see 36ish different animals and only 13 animals/sections (like the whole Herpaquarium) that werent available. Heres what was closed when I went: the whole Asian section with the Tapir, Babirusa, Sumatran Tiger, Siamang, and Orangutan; a corner with the Island Pavilion (Im not sure whats in there) and the Komodo Dragon; the HerpAquarium, the Metazoo was closed, not sure what that is either (Im not local) and no stage show there; the lorikeet landing and walkabout; the Sea Eagle Aviary was closed but you could kinda see them from the outside; no shows for the seals; no pigmy hippos, naked mole rats, or lemurs. But I DID get to see: tons of tiny, noisy blue-black penguins (but only on my second go-round), black swans (not even sure theyre a real exhibit!) plus ducks and turtles in the lake; a lynx I want to take home, two bald eagles, a cougar, a very cool maned wolf, a sloth in a bucket, a leopard, a flock/flamboyance of flamingos (at a distance - I think there may have been other birds in there too), there was a blue macaw but he stayed hidden, a llama-type guy (I couldnt see the sign), some type of sea birds? I spotted two, 2 harbour seals and a grey seal (or the other way around? - they are SUPER fun to watch and put on a show themselves), a HUGE brown bear, a polar bear, a snow leopard, a tiger, a silverback gorilla and some other apes (Im not sure if they were all silverbacks, I guess so - they were all kept inside), 3 fat meerkats, 3 sleepy colobus monkeys (inside enclosure, not out and about), 3 zebras, 2 camels (no rides), 3 elephants including baby Fitz (all of which were getting training at the time, which was cool to see), 3 lions (1 male, 2 female), 4 types of exotic cattle (sorry, I forgot the names), 2 giraffe, 2 white vultures (plus a lot of Canada Geese) a sleepy rhinoceros, and 2 inquisitive warthogs. One of the greatest things about this zoo is how close you can get to the animals and feel how big they are! They often come right up to the glass or fence though they have big enclosures and can stay far away if they like. Also the styling of the place is great - its very successful on theming, like a theme park would do, especially around the Glacier Run area with the seals and bears.Ill have to come back to see it in full force post covid and maybe in warmer weather. Id love to see the pygmy hippos and ride the train! But my ticket, even with parking was only around $15 so I ended up more than happy with what I got out of it. Highly recommended!
Best zoo Ive been to, only second to the St Louis Zoo. Louisville Zoo has a nice flow, easy-to-follow signs, the animals were active and looked happy in an ample environment. There were several interactive exhibits closed, due to COVID-19 but the merry-go-round was open. Sanitizer and clean bathrooms abound. A year membership is well worth it.Edit: Go early. We went back during lunchtime and many people unmasked in certain areas (seals, bears) Theyll need to have a couple people stationed around the park or something.
Its still a bit crazy in the world today. This was a nice escape. The zoo tries to provide a safe place and let the kids be. Yes you have to wait to go into each enclosure but no more than a minute.
This was a great trip ! I spent some quality time with the grandkids and they loved it too !
I guess they are doing the best that they can amidst the covid crisis. A lot of exhibits were closed though. Left feeling like I did not get my moneys worth out of it.
Wonderful fun with family or friends! Sadly a few areas were closed due to health safety. I have never been closer to some of the animals I saw today.
Nice little setup, Went with my daughter, her bf and my grandson. Walked 3miles and took lots of pictures.. Cant wait til every thing is open.
Having a great time with Melissa Holcomb- McCraken Nikou!!
It was awsome for my granddaughter, as an adult saw many folks wear their masks long enough to get in then throw caution to the wind. Staff did nothing to enforce masks where stated. Majority of people had PACK IN LIKE SARDINES mentality. Slowed our travel thru zoo trying to keep the 4 of us as 4safe as possible. 2 1/2 hour drive one way made for a trying day. Also, we picked today to come to the flutterfest only to find out inaccessible, along with the butterfly house being closed. Online it still indicated it was open. ALSO, bought 4 pretzels for $11.14, because I gave staff 12.00...she wanted to charge me .86 more to keep from making change. Guests pay enough to get in, if you arent going to make change, round up or down in favor of the guest, not your pocket.Knoxville zoo does it best, all exhibits open, assertive staff oversee safe, number in enclosed exhibits, and people there are respectful to wear masks. Guess we will go back even tho drive longer.
I really Wish we could do Halloween this year at the zoo. My kids are really going to miss walking around the zoo all dressed up and seeing the animals as they trick or treat with friends and family. Maybe next year things will get back to normal and we can all enjoy it again. Thank you.
Light show in the evening was great. We went at 7:30pm and it was light enough to see some of the animals and then dark toward the end to see some of the really cool lights.
Loved seeing some of the animals, most of them werent out. I KNOW it has to do with covid19 but I was just sad to go all that way and hardly see anything. I did enjoy the day out with my family, so ty for that. Cant wait till things are back to normal.
They have done a great job mapping out a route that is social distancing friendly. There are many indoor exhibits that are closed but my kids still loved it. Just wish we would have seen the rhino.
We have only attended the Asian Lantern Festival so far but that alone was an amazing experience. Please bring it back so we can share it with friends and family! Overall the zoo is walkable with reasonable wheelchair and other mobility accommodations. Lots of benches along the main walkways certainly make it better than many places! We could tell the zoo is well maintained and we will be returning soon!
I went in to deliver fish and all I can guarantee that the animals are treated well it looks clean and well mantained.
A wonderful Zoo where the animals are very well cared for and loved. They host many things for everyone and give back to the community. The place can be very packed, but if you’re not in a rush it’s not ever a big deal. The best time to go is in the morning, very few people. There are 3 parks inside the Zoo, one is a little water park! All are included with passes inside. There is a carousel that you can go on, adults can go on free if the child is small enough so they can be monitored. There is also a train you can ride through the zoo (and it’s so fun!!) The food inside is just amazing (but PRICEY!) and the proceeds go towards the animals. I think you are allowed to bring your own snacks (though I’m not sure). They have strollers you can rent and a tram you can ride inside the park (not included with day passes)
Would have given 5 stars if we didnt have to pay for a wheelchair
Went to the Louisville Zoo yesterday, was disappointed. All of the enclosed exhibits were closed due to Covid-19, which is understandable. But why are they still charging full price? Probably 1/3 of the zoo is inexcessable. It seemed like a shell of the zoo. I definitely overpaid.
We were at the Zoo for the Wild Lights event. The Zoo is always fun, but this was really a cool display. Go as late as you can, because...lights, but give yourself at least 1.5 hours to get through. If you miss Wild Lights, thats cool; LOTS of wonderful things to see and do at the Louisville Zoo from the animals first and foremost to the playgrounds to the splash park.
They are very well organized for the pandemic. There are so many beautiful animals and almost every time Im there all of them are out and active. Clean and fun for all!
At first I, being from New York, was impressed at the relatively low price for our admission. That was until we went in and saw that there was very little to see. Many of the exhibitions are closed to the public and the animals all seemed depressed haha seriously.
Had a WONDERFUL time with my family! Even with Covid-19 we had a blast. Had to buy tickets online day before because there are limited amount of people allowed at a time. Spent 5 hours walking around and viewing everything. The orangutan was by far my favorite! A few exhibits were closed but there were many things still to see.
Its a very large Zoo and has a very large variety of different animals, reptiles, birds, and even insects, most of which you will only experience by going to a zoo and they do such a great job of giving you a once in a life time visionary adventure of some of the most unique creatures in the world. The reason for the 3 stars though is that even though it is a large zoo it seemed like the larger animals were all displaying signs of stress and boredom of not having much to do or a large enough habitat to really do much more than pass from one life to the other or pass right in front of the gate at which Im assuming they get fed or the gate to go back inside.. I dont know really, but I do know I felt sorry for a lot of them because I noticed the pattern of passing animals not far into the trails.. But, besides that they all seemed very well fed, healthy and well taken care of..
We missed the Zoo so much during the COVID-19 closures! So excited to be able to go back. Employees are always in good spirits and they are doing everything they can to help encourage social distancing in high traffic areas. Be sure to go online to make reservations! (COVID-19 Procedure Only).
Awesome experience at the zoo. Wild Lights Asian Lantern Festival is beautiful to walk through.
Today. The weather was perfect. Not alot of people. My granddaughter and I had a Wonderful time. Relaxing and peaceful day. Couldnt ask for anything more except not having the food places open.
The price was right but that’s because many of the exhibits were closed. The management required everyone to wear a mask if they couldn’t social distance which would have been reasonable if they hadn’t also had zoo staff at most of the exhibits looking over your shoulder and telling you when it’s ok to look in the glass. The bathrooms were adequate but a little unkempt from overuse. One great thing was the breastfeeding facilities, there were two, the rooms are clean and have beds and chairs to feed at. Another annoyance was that the playgrounds were all closed. To be in a zoo with playgrounds was amazing but not if they are closed...somehow the gift shops were all open, not sure how that’s safer than playgrounds. All together a good experience but the restrictions put in place made it less than enjoyable and we were pretty happy to leave faster than we had initially planned to.
Just would like management know that there was 13 tickets purchase for our family tonight. I am diabetic and my sugar was low, asked the first booth going in if I could get some candy and he was a smart butt and said very rudely the candy is for children 11 and under and you look 12. I had a few choice words I would have like to of said, but I wasn’t gonna stoop to his level since I turned 44 today. But I understand children have no respect these days.
The Louisville Zoo is always great to go to with family. The staff are nice and Zoo is clean.
The zoo is so much fun and very clean. My only qualm was actually with the other guests. I shant describe their behavior; Im sure you can imagine it. But the staff were very patient and kind and accomidating to my partners wheelchair needs.
Always clean and organised with great staff. Our family loves the Louisville zoo. The animals are active and happy. We have been members for almost ten years now and we recommend it to everyone.
Adding new stuff fairly consistently now. Taking steps for covid safety mask recommend in tight areas some buildings closed. Best to get tickets online as only so many per hour can get in, if you show up chance to get turned away with out tickets.
Very cute and clean zoo, has petting & feeding zoo also. Had hand sanitizer stations and restrooms, everyone wearing masks. Took about 2 hours to see all of it- very clean in zoo. Animals seemed all healthy and happy to see people. Very well kept and clean.
Asian Lights at night time were spectacular!! It was raining & 75 degrees but still a wonderful & memorable experience. Zoo was well staffed & Everyone was so friendly. Everyone had on masks & kept at least 6 distsnce
Had a fantastic time at the zoo! Displays were incredible and the staff were really helpful and friendly. The grounds are well cared for and there are plenty of restroom facililties. A great place to go with your family and have a wonderful time at reasonable prices. GREAT JOB ZOO STAFF!
Ok, first off I understand there has been alot of changes since covid. But when pay 62.00 for tickets and nothing is out. That is a waste of my time. But what I really dont understand you shut everything down, but ur still running the carasel. Makes no sense. Very disappointed. Id rather would have somewhere else. I wont be coming back. Unless something is done. Even my 5 yr old granddaughter wasnt impressed. Thats sad.
They are doing what the can to keep people safe during this pandemic. Including limiting the amount of people who are allowed to enter. As most places that tell people to keep their mask on but not everyone follows it. Obviously there are times you might need to get some air, but do it away from others please, not while youre walking past another person. I was there for boo at the zoo with my baby and she cant wear a mask, shed just take it right off. I was hoping there would be more animals to see that might be out and nocturnal but there werent unfortunately. Everyone who was dressed up looked great and was very nice! Mumpkin the talking Pumpkin was great. It would be neat Mumpkin would ask the kids their names or say something about the costume theyre wearing, really make the kids wonder. Thank you everyone at the zoo for all your hard work putting this together!
The Louisville Zoo was nice. Coronavirus protocol required all indoor exhibits to be closed. That stunk. Staff were nice and friendly. **Tickets MUST be purchased online. We did it just outside the entrance. Entry must be scheduled, so we did have to wait a few minutes. Overall, a pleasant 90 minutes.
Social distancing during the day is great. At night not so much. Staff are friendly, diligent and reliable.
Amazing zoo. Went early, at 10am, and the animals were all out entertaining. Seal show at 2pm is tremendous. Splash pad is a great way too cool of after seeing all the animals. Would definitely return.
I hadnt been in awhile to the zoo. I really enjoyed getting to go.
The guy at the ticket counter was very helpful. The gentleman that took our tickets to get in was quite rude. It seemed quite a few animals were taken off of exhibit. It was our first time at this zoo. The waterpark area was closed. They had multiple playgrounds that were very nice. My family enjoyed the multiple indoor exhibits. Plentiful well placed bathrooms and water fountains. Quite a few of the snack/food stands were also closed. Tad pricey for entry and beverages. Would come back if ever this way again though as the kids enjoyed it. Plus with our local zoo membership we got half priced entry.
I went to the Wild Lights Event last night. It was perfectly executed. The time slots and spread out set up gave everyone plenty of space to socially distance. Great job Louisville Zoo!!!
Still too many people. But the exhibit was wonderful.
The Louisville Zoo is a fantastic place for any age group. We take multiple trips here a year and always have a blast. Would definitely recommend you stopping by!
They did a good job with reservations and social distancing. Lots of staff to clean rails and anything touched. Indoor things closed. Some food stations open. They have a specific path through the zoo now.
I understand that the Covid thing is happening right now but seriously we hardly got to see any animals and the few we did looked pitiful. Wasted money and poor animals. Hopefully it’s a lot better during normal operation.
A bit small but well-organized. The lantern show presents a great Chinese culture
The Maned Wolf was worth the visit. To watch the wolf walk in the large open field was memorable. I also liked the marked pathway to be followed on the walkways. The mark path reduced congestion.
We had such a great time!! I was nervous because we are in the middle of a pandemic, but the staff were steadily cleaning and sanitizing, and making sure social distancing was being followed. There were hand sanitizer stations set up, although I do wish there were a few more!!
Excellent attention and service.:. I recommend it, a unique unforgettable experience, thanks for your attention and kindness, Heavenly Father Take care of the staff and all our animals, amen.
It was kinda disappointing. Over half of the exhibits were closed off,due to the virus, however they herd everyone in the same direction. Doesnt make much sense. Good thing is,our son is 3,and he was just happy to see some animals. Cant wait for next year when the virus isnt politically motivated.
I adore everything about going to THE LOUISVILLE ZOO......it is beautiful, and the animals seem to be very well cared for.
Great light show at zoo. We all enjoyed it very much
Very nice, easy to walk through, clean and exhibits were good
Hot as hello... Not completely open but still great fun
Took kids to zoo, from out of town. Full price however could not enter before 2pm which I can deal with but everything in zoo was closed. Train not running, every exhibit closed, only couple snacks shack open, Only thing to do was walk the path and see if animals in open out. We only saw maybe 7 animals. Not worth full price tickets.
Free for active duty military. Numerous measures in place to ensure social distancing. Staff walking about to help ensure compliance.
This is a great zoo. It was nice to be able to see all the animals. My family and I went here for my little brothers birthday. One really nice thing is that I never felt like I was forced to do anything I could just walk around at my own speed. A large array of animals made for a good 3/4 hour adventure. They allow carry in so we didnt have to pay the high prices for food and refreshments that most places have.
We had a wonderful time. An excellent four-course meal, nice drinks, and a very well played out evening by the teachers of Alabaster Academy. Young Harry Potter was even.
We went for the Halloween party and staff were everywhere. The only complaint is the staff would hunt you down for having pulled up your mask after taking a drink, but didnt care that a lot of people would stand behind us in line and be able to smell my shampoo they were so close. Not a great experience overall.
My family loved this zoo, it may be small but it does not disappoint! Seeing multiple zoos to include Oregon, California, and North Carolina this is one of my favorite.
The Louisville zoo is great. At time of writing this they had a special allergen friendly day which is great for my family as my daughter has a food allergy so being able to get some friendly treats was amazing not to mention all the photo booths they had with characters like spiderman and frozen
Great place for kids.Enjoyed the seasonal decorations & will absolutely be back after Covid.
We had a fantastic evening at the zoo seeing the Asian lantern festival. Well worth the visit. Everyone did a great job wearing masks and social distancing.
Louisville zoo is doing social distancing right! Saw many staff members throughout cleaning glass and rails. Not crowded and easy to keep distance from others not in your family.
Kids had a wonderful time. The facility was clean and everyone was very cheerful.
We were impressed by the zoo! Many indoor exhibits were closed due to COVID, but there were still many cool things to see. Very cool up close views of many animals.
Good photo opportunities with many of the animals. All of the indoor exhibits were closed. I was looking forward to see the reptiles. I worry about a few animals. They looked bored and hungry. They were pacing back and forth. The gift shop was outdoor and very limited on items. Im hoping the Lantern Festival is better.
Had a great time with my family. The gorilla was too cool and super smart. Kind of a show off but the crowd including me loved it. Rare albino alligator was a sight to see and the new snow leopard exhibit was neat. Petting zoo was friendly and it was a great experience for the whole family. Anyone thats in Louisville should make it an event.
Lots of animals to see and you can take your time! Just make sure to go when its cooler out or bring water!
Lots of exhibits to look at, and a wide variety of animals to see. Parking was $6 for the day. There is quite a bit of walking to do.Drinks are $3.49 and up from what I could see. There are a couple locations in the zoo to buy food from. We bought sandwiches and fries and spent between 25 and $30 at the eatery in the Africa location. Food was pretty good. There is a zoo cup you can purchase for $5.99 and refill for about 1.50 or so.We didnt get to do the splash pad because I didnt know about it ahead of time so bring clothes for your kids! The carousel is solar powered and costs 3.50 for one time around or a daily pass for 4.50We had a good day there.
One of the best local attractions for families in Louisville. The Louisvile zoo never disappoints. This time was giraffe mating season. The walk around the zoo is enjoyable and the animals seem happy and well taken care of. This visit we listened to the elephant caretakers talking for over half an hour about training their 2 females. Very interesting. But tickets online to save a few bucks.
Great place to walk with your family! The staff are great and very friendly. The animals are unique and outside most of the time. When they arent outside it is kind of a bummer but its still great!
One of the highlights of our trip, this is a really nice zoo, with really nice exhibits. We were able to feed the giraffes, ride a camel, and spend a good amount of time here. Make sure you get there early enough to walk around and catch all the presentations; some of them stop at around 3pm or so I believe it was.
Great zoo cool playgrounds for the kids. Animals are well cared for and seem to like the people. They come right up close to you!
Very cool zoo. They did great with their adjustments for covid. Although everyone having to go one way made it a cluster at certain points. Animals were very active and it was a beautiful park
Had so much fun even being too cold for a lot of the animals to be out. All of the staff was super nice and friendly. Definitely recommend
We love our Louisville Zoo! We can stop in, spend some time, see animals, leave and always come back if its too busy. Always clean, staff is great!
Wife and I took the grandkids, social distancing is in effect. Have to book your time slot in advance, no rush to go through the one way path. Sanitizer available all over the park. Not all exhibits open due to confined areas where you cant social distance. We had a great time!
Boo in the Zoo with the Grand kids was great. Wish we had more time to enjoy it with them.
Love it every time I go. Social distance and mask guidelines being followed, animal exhibits set up beautifully and path marked to see everything. Cant wait to go back
We had so much fun! Most of the animals were out and active even with it being SO HOT. We plan on getting a membership, the kids loved it! The splash pad was a HUGE plus.
Havent been there in 31 years . Lots of changes. Walk ways were very good. Just didnt have the animals it used to. Brought 3 ice creams in a cup and bottles of water paid 17 dollars for that. The zoo charging that price portions shouldve been larger. Couldve gotten more at Macdonalds, 3 times as much. For what they charge couldve had a better experience.
