Incredible place, situated on a hill with a magnificent view of the city and the ocean. The bright and sophisticated architecture welcomes the visitor surprising him from the very first steps. The rooms contain unique works of art and some of the most iconic paintings by major painters, such as Van Goghs Irises and Monets sheaves of wheat.Free entrance, you only pay for parking if you arrive by car.

We went to this place because of a recommendation from a friend. It was absolutely worthwhile to spend the afternoon there. After 3 pm the parking fee was just 15 bucks. (Throughout the day its 20 I think)Then you take a ride in a tram where you already have a perfect view over some parts of LA and the famous 405 highway. You arrive in the middle of some arty buildings and parks. Even if you are not so much interested in world famous art you get rewarded with beautiful views over the city and nature parks where you can enjoy the sun and your life. After a few hours the center got closed so it was very busy at the tram. Everyone wanted to go down. We decided to walk back to the car. There is a nice paved road where you can walk. It took maybe 15 min to get back to the car.Except to the parking fee, there is no entrance fee. Very generous.

If admiring diverse art collections is a favourite hobby of yours, look no further than The Getty Center, is a beautiful building comprising 1.2 million square feet of galleries and exhibits.Medieval works and paintings by famed painters (such as Monet and Van Gogh), 19th and 20th-century photographs and sculptures are on display, and a cafe and gift shop are on site.Outside, in the well-manicured grounds perched atop the Santa Monica Mountains, you’ll enjoy access to beautiful gardens with stunning views of Los Angeles.

The Getty Center is stunning! It is absolutely beautiful. The architecture, the gardens, the views, the collections... all incredible! I highly recommend. We got there just after 3PM on Sunday afternoon. Theyre only open until 5:30 on Sundays, and that was not enough time to spend in this enchanting place. Plus its huge! You definitely need more than a couple hours to see and appreciate everything. Parking decreases by $5 after 3PM, and a lot of others were there to take advantage of that. It was pretty busy in the parking lot and waiting to get through security and get on the tram up to the Getty. If I did it again, Id have encouraged my friend to leave our hotel room earlier and wed have skipped what turned out to be a disastrous brunch that too way too long. My original thought was to get there around noon or 1PM, and that wouldve been much, much better. Lesson learned!Prioritizing what to see in my limited time, I went and saw the Impressionist art right away, and then spent most of my time enjoying the view from above the cactus garden or in the central garden. It was my first time here, and I cant wait to go back.

Excellent architecture and gardens. A must- experience place in California. The guided garden tour is both educational and fun, and the guides are terrific story tellers. One day is not enough to explore The Getty. You have to allot at least 2 days for this attraction. There are no entrance fees to visit the place. You just have to pay for parking which is very affordable. It is worth visiting the souvenir shop. Service is very good and the staff are very client-oriented. They stayed overtime just to accommodate our request. A friendly reminder, do not tip the volunteer guides - they do not accept tips. Our guide graciously thanked the person who was giving a tip, and told the group that they do not receive tips.

The sculptures, paintings, furnishings, tapestries, photographs, gardens....and the history..it all just had me in awe. And the views of LA are spectacular!I also really appreciated the umbrellas that were available for use. The extra sun protection was much needed. I did visit the cafe for lunch as well. Maybe you dont have time for the Griffith. This will fulfill your LA overlook and skyline needs. The garden is cool too. Also try the cafe. Clam chauder is great stuff. If you are struggling to persuade your loved one to move to live in LA one day - just bring her or him to see this place. No further explanation needed.

We took part in a free tour, very interesting, not too long and boring. After that, we explore ourselves. At lunch time, we have a little snack outside and some coffee. The price is very high but not very outrageous, and the choice is also very good. PB&J sandwiches are very cheap, plus bananas, which make healthy, cheap little lunches. In hindsight, we can bring a picnic, and the lawn and grass are very attractive. The staff is very friendly and many volunteers. The bright architecture gives a modern and cheerful feel. There are plenty of water dispensers and the washrooms are modern and clean. After that, we drove to Hollywoods Avenue of Stars, it was not too far away, it was a wonderful day trip.5 stars, everyone has a thumbs up for Getty!

We try to visit during the spring cherry blossom festival (when all the sakuras are in bloom) or during the summer rose festival. The kids (4 and 1) love riding the miniature train, following the ducks and spotting the koi in the Japanese garden.

Splendid collection of contemporary buildings set high above Northern Los Angeles. Art collection has some excellent painting from the early Renaissance on to more current artists. Completely worth slogging through LA traffic... Go late morning for a few hours. Pricey but great food selection in the Cafe, but unless youre feeling quite flush, the Restaurant is over the top on price. Entry is free but parking is $20!

As far a museums in Southern California go The Getty Center is worth spending several hours exploring. During my visit in late December the gardens were closed. The Manet exhibition is worth seeing especially the portraits that have not been in the same room in 40 years. It takes considerable time to get through security and onto the optional tram that takes you up the hill. Parking is available and there is a public bus that drops off across the street from the Getty. The views are stunning especially close to sunset with the pacific ocean in the distance. The Cafe closes at 2:30 pm. Although I like the Getty I enjoyed my time at the Huntington Library gardens in Pasadena more.

World class museum showing world class art for free. Cant get much better than that! Monet, Van Gogh, Cezanne, etc. All in the same location. Incredible displays, room after room, wing after wing, and the garden is breath taking. Stop in the garden, sit for a bit and take it in. Dont be in a hurry... listen to the water flow, allow your mind to wander, and relax. Stop and view the different angles of the buildings as you walk around... at different times of the day as the sun runs across the faces. Its gorgeous inside and out. Start out early or later in the day... avoid the middle day rush. Stop and enjoy a cappuccino from the coffee cart. No matter what you do... take in the beauty all around.

Free museum with beautiful artwork. You can ask for a head set player to listen to information about the artwork. I loved every minute of my experience at the Getty. I will definitely go back. Overall great experience!

Fantastic place to go spend a half or full day. Clean and well maintained and FREE! (Parking is $15-20) the garden is beautiful and romantic spot to take a few pics with your significant other. The exhibits are interesting and you can even grab an iPod from the entrance for a self-guided tour...still Free

A beautiful place to visit! I went with a group near closing time (unfortunately due to a delayed flight), so we only had time to explore the grounds, however they are absolutely beautiful. The architecture is stunning, and the garden is a great place to watch the sunset.

The garden is breathtaking. A must see. The exhibits are incredible. I was able to see Galles chandelier which was a beautiful sight to see; a chandelier that had a hot air balloon feel with griffins and astrological symbols all around it. And it has a fish bowl for goldfish. I explored two other exhibits and I suggest that if youre in Los Angeles, you really ought to go to the Getty and experience whichever exhibits are there and see the incredible garden. The views are pretty amazing as well and their restaurant (you need reservations) is wonderful.

Just another art museum. Went with a couple friends; I got bored waiting to leave each room. Looking at art work you just bores me; it leaves me with the question: Do people just go to art museums to make themselves appear sophisticated to impress one-another? If so, sophistication is boring. But, I did like the train, view of L.A., and architecture all around.

Anyone who comes to LA and does not visit the Getty, can no longer say they live their lives without regrets. Not only do they house some of the most amazing pieces I have ever seen, the building and landscaping is marvelous. Of all the art museums in all the cities in the 20 countries I have visited, this is easily in the top 3. I couldnt stop taking pictures! The Getty is the number 1 thing to do in LA.

The Getty definitely brings back all the childhood memories. Back when I was a kid, I did not understand how betting works, but I definitely loved the experience watching all the horses race and the excitement.
