Short and easy hike with great views of the Potomac. Lightly trafficked, good for kids and dogs. The trail is well marked and maintained, but there are some places where you might want to get off the trail and go explore. Just be careful if you do so since the terrain can be steep and slippery. Theres one point where you can walk right up to the water. The parking lot can accommodate a few dozen cars, but just wait a bit if its full. The hike is short enough that theres bound to be someone returning to their car to leave soon.
An amazing view of the Potomac River awaits you at this overlook which is nested away in a wooded area full of oaks poplars and Papas pretty similar to a whole lot of Virginia scenery. In the fall with a blue river in the background and yellowish foliage that you can start through this basically gets you to a hidden gem In the middle of a concrete jungle that has grown in present-day lease book. Its about a mile on a beautiful trail with nice ups and downs and plenty of groups to be aware of that lead you to this amazing view that you should not miss.
This is a beautiful and historic park. The land was part of a farm from the late 1800s to early 1900s. The placards designating the different buildings that are part of the site are informational and well kept, but the park could generally use more signs and trail markers. Its still a good experience, but I would recommend taking a picture of the map before you set out. There arent too many miles of trail, but some of the terrain is steep. Due to the short distances, however, the hiking never becomes strenuous. Once you reach the Potomac the sights are something to behold.
Was perfect for kids (5 and 10 years old) with little hiking experience and they enjoyed it which was the goal. Has several trail options to get to the river some a bit steeper but if you walk around you will find a route that fits your needs. Nice area around the parking lot with historical farm buildings and green area around it that is good for picnics. The only drawback is that there is only one picnic table so plan accordingly depending on your needs to bring portable sitting, blanket, foldable table(s), etc. Overall a nice outdoors experience.
Quick easy hike with a pleasant view of a calm Potomac river in this area. Good for a nice mid day hike in between your work schedule if you want a break. Typically 1 to 1.5 hours would be spent here.
Great regional park for a few hours spent in nature. You can make it a 1 hour visit or a couple hours. Several trails to walk, as well as several great viewing locations for pure nature enjoyment or great selfie/couples/family photo ops. We headed there originally, thinkng we could rid eour bikes, but no such luck. We didnt see any trails to support walkers and bikes, or bike trials by themselves. Really gret aspot for taking my 2 teenage daiughters for an afternoon of enjoying nature.
Lovely place for easy picturesque hike. Also has a few picnic tables near parking area.
Pretty park just be careful where you park the parkings are not marked. It says is easy hiking to get to the water, it is actually a steep hill to get to the water, was not able to reach the water with my toddler.
Beautiful hiking trails. The walk along the river is a lifetime memory.
Lovely park with walking trails, ruins and views of the Potomac
Always a beautiful and peaceful walk. If you get lucky youll see some deer.
Stopped for a picnic lunch and discovered a very cool little spot.
Great hiking area with nice scenery. The trial it self has lots of ups and downs and a few steep up and down areas. Is roughly 1.5 - 2 miles long depending which way you hiking.
Fun with 2 active dogs. Ive had 2 knee replacements and back surgeries and it was still enjoyable even with the steep inclines.
Nice walk but you will want to print a guide or have your phone. a few steep spots and can be tricky when wet
Great short hike. The main trail is 1.1 miles but you can make is longer with other trails. Great views of the Potomac. You can go down to the river of view it from the top of the cliffs.
Really love this little park. It has great trails with lots to see including an area overlooking the Potomac River. It is gorgeous in the spring when wildflowers are in bloom! Great little hike for dogs as well. The trails are well maintained and there is plenty of parking. The old stone buildings near the parking lot make for great photography backdrops.
Great place to explore. Convenient location. Nice river views.
Nice fun simple hiking spot. Lots of river space and ravine fun!
Hidden gem on the banks of the Potomac, with great overlooks as well as river walks.
Nice short walk in the woods. River close by. Its a good walk to do with smaller kids so they dont get tired. We saw quite a few families with small kids. River was beautiful!
Its a great little hike close to my home. The paths were a little overgrown and trail markers were a little difficult to find once you got to the river.
This is short walk hike location with small parking space. I normally prefer to do multiple rounds of the loop to get my walks. River front is nice. Had to get down little if not muddy, nice to see the flow of river. Good for kids as well as it’s just small loop for walk.
Great place to visit with the family or just bored from watching TV! Walk the forest and enjoy the history of the area. Great to teach the kids about how they used to store ice, meat, and grain back in the day. The overlook area is beautiful but just know if you want to see the overlook and turn around to return its a mile long or you can keep going on the train which is about 5 miles.
This park is amazing.Stop coming here.Theres to many screaming kids.
This is my first time visiting this park. To my surprise, it is very clean. There is a small parking lot that will accommodate about 20 cars. There are ruins with description of each building. Very interesting and educational. The trails are dirt covered with many exposed roots, and very well mark - color code is marked on the trees. Along the water, there is a trail that is not part of the trail map. To get there, take the Green/White from the left side of the parking lot, with the road behind you. It is a short walk to the water, about 1/4 mile. Be careful when you walk downhill to the water, the trail slopes down with deep steps. Walking up to the trail from the water is a great workout... Up hill.As I continue on the White/Green Trail, eventually, it parallels with the water, and there are 2 overlooks with fences along the cliff. Both provide a nice view of the river. To get to the overlooks, it is a steep downhill followed by an steep uphill hike. Great workout! I discovered that you dont need to back track from the overlooks back onto the trail. There is a trail at the top where the overlooks are that connects and continues you to the White/Green trail. So, when you get to the first overlook on your left, take the trail by the first of to the 2nd overlook on your left. It connects to the White/Green trail to continue on. When I reached the part of the trail that gave me a view of the Leesburg Water Treatment Plant, the trail was blocked by a fallen tree. I walked around to the right and climbed over another fallen tree to get around it. From there, the walk to the parking lot was a short one.I will definitely return to this park again. Great workout on the White/Green trail. Recommend wear hiking shoes.
Had a great time walking here. We went during a rain storm and obviously the trails were deserted. Brought our two dogs along as well and had a good time. Hike is very simple even for beginners. But there are some steeper climbs near the overlook. There are some downed trees toward the end of the loop that you need to maneuver over / under too. Nothing too strenuous though.Great view of the Potomac!
Love the hills and the views of the Potomac River in this park. The only drawbacks for me personally is that the park is dense and trails are relatively short. If youre just looking for a brief walk through the woods (some of the terrain is steep) than this should suit you. If you like to trail run, this park has nice steep hills that are short but frequent. Because the park is dense in a relatively small area (compared to Balls Bluff, for example, which covers a larger area), it can be crowded with people, especially on the weekends.
Fun hikes right along the river. Easy access parking. No facilities.
Great location for a quick hike.
The trail is so nice and healing!
A quick, shady hike with a few steep parts and a nice view of the Potomac.
Silver/green trail was great however Potomac was up from all the rain. Trail blocked 3/4 of the way through because of downed tree across the trail. However path was nice and wide and trail clearly marked.
Various trails; nothing too difficult for children or dogs.
Very easy hike with our kids (7 & 9). We completed the entire white trail including the NW branch that goes down to the river.
Interesting history with interpretive signs adjacent to the parking area, but also a nice network of trails including a section of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail.
Perfect for a quick walk or run through the woods. Has a number of interconnected trails. Trails can get a little muddy. Nice Vista of the Potomac at one point. A few historical buildings, with Pokestops!
Trail is well marked with beautiful views
Talk about a hidden gem! This park has some great trails, wondeful views of the Potomac, solitude, a feeling of being in a wilderness, and some great historical ruins!
The trails have great views of the Potomac River, very quiet and serene, but muddy even when it hasnt rained in a few days. The picnic area is nice with picnic tables and a small green space next to old ice house and some other building ruins from the 1850s.
Beautiful park. Thanks to Geocaching for bringing us here.
Hilly trails thru the woods to the banks of the Potomac River. Great views! Trails well marked.
Beautiful if it wasnt out doors.
Its an ok place. Overlook was a bit let down.
I greatly place to hike. Old buildings & the Potomac river view. A very long hike.
Great place to walk and enjoy gods beauty.
A really nice trail with scenic views of the Potomac River. Fairly easy with a little hill climbing and great for all family members.
Beautiful start to a wilderness trail. Be careful not to park in the private residence adjacent to the park
Cool nature trails near the Potomac.
A nature walk is always great. However, this one was a little adventurous. There were times we were questioning if we were going the right way and had to look it up on the all trails app. Outside of that, its not bad at all. Very pretty view. Google maps took us to the wrong side of the street, but it was simple enough to see and find.
Easy nice trails.
Great spot for short hiking with family !
Beautiful and easy to hike.
Short but beautiful walk
Quick hike; difficulty: easy
Easy hike with beautiful trees that ends at a knew of a kind riverside flat area great for picknicks with easy access to the Patomic for fishing.
Stupidest thing ever - Cant park at these parks. How dumb. What kind of decision makers do we have here?
A nice walk, but very muddy the day we went.
Great trails and views of Potamac.
A very nice park for a walk. It combines historical preservation with nature.
This nature park is like a puzzle. Theres always new pieces to be searched out in order to put it all together to create a beautiful picture! Everytime i go, i always find a new path to explore!
The trails were muddy, but otherwise it was nice!
Nicely marked trails. Good parking. I can see where this place would get crowded on a nice day. The trail that goes along the river is just at the edge of the park land and can be quite muddy when it has been rainy. Perfect size park and trails to introduce kids to wilderness hiking.
This is my happy place! I bring a hammock, a water bottle, and a book to spend the day looking at the Potomac and observing nature. The hike can be slippery if it’s rained, so be careful in the mud!!
Chill hike, not very hard. Also great view spots
Trail coverex in downed trees so lots of over under to get through no issues on back side trail of the loop. Great chance to fish etc at rivers edge. Wish there was a restroom or portable toilet onsite.
Great outdoors place to visit. The trail is steep so be careful and where the proper shoes. Overall great place of you like hiking, outdoors and nature
Great trail with wonderful views along the river. The only downside is that the trails are relatively short compared to some of the other parks in the area. However, the bonus is that it is much more serene even during peak hours/days. If you are looking for a quiet hike while enjoying the scenery, this is an ideal location for families. If you are looking for more of a challenge, there are better locations in the area.
Nice walking trails through a pleasant wooded area beside the river.
Excellent park to take your dog for a walk.
Parking lot and trails were well marked. This was a nice quiet hike through the woods with a few good overlooks to the Potomac river. There were two pretty steep sections of trail, but these sections were short, otherwise easy trail. It was great for a quick hike with the dogs.
This is a great little hidden gem in Leesburg with a nice shorter trail down to the river for families and other longer trails of different challenge levels. Plus a bit of history.
This a great trail!
We went for a drive to visit Harpers Ferry and decided to check this place out. The information about this place didnt say anything about a multi-mile walk to the overlook. We decided not to and had we known ahead of time, we probably wouldnt have gone.
Small, a bit dingy, but quiet. Not a particularly great view of the Potomac.
I love this place!!
Great Park with some wonderful short hiking trails. The trails provide great views of the Potomac River. Unfortunately, there is a ton of blow down and they are very slow to clear the trails. There are a few downed trees still blocking trails that have been down for years and a couple places where the crowds have rerouted the trails to get around blow down.
Easy hike
Beautiful!
A short and easy hike but beautiful. The overlook is pretty awesome.
Not very exciting place. A few nostalgic buildings and several trails to choose to hike to the Potomac River.
Beautiful
Really enjoyed the park and trails. Great views of the Potomac!
This is my new quiet place!!
Beautiful property, well maintained trails and riverfront access.
Great short trails that all lead to the Potomac river, great view...
Short trails, decently marked.
Good for a quick walk in the woods
Other than a couple teenagers smoking weed it was beautiful!
Love the Potomac and surrounding areas!!
Nice place for an easy hike
Nearby cool
Trail was very well marked. Very clean park with beautiful views along the river.
Small-ish but cute! Can be very muddy after it rains!
Peace & Beauty
Great place to hike with kids!
Cool place to take the kids/get pictures!
Love this place great for family and dogs
Steep incline from the blue trail
