I love taking my dog here and always recommend to my fellow fur friends! This park is huge, it has huge off leash and a bunch of trails in the back if you prefer to get away from everyone. They keep this park very clean, parking is great and it stays open late. The security won’t close unless everyone is gone which is super nice!

One of the best parks ever. Its an old British land claim that was converted into farming grounds for a military base in 1851. Ft. Steilacoom was converted to what is now known as Western State Hospital in 1871 and the farmland at the now park was worked by the patients. There was once a ward on a hill by waughop lake which housed those patients. The hill ward was eventually shutdown and demolished and the county converted the land to a very large park that includes a dog park, radio control flying area, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, and a lot of trails. Also within this park are many great trees such as sequoias, coastal redwoods, and London Plane trees that were originally planted by the original insane asylum superintendents wife.

This place is great, it has a lot to offer. There is a pretty decent amount of parking, a large playground that is split for larger kids and the toddlers, and a huge field for playing. Further into the park there is a fully fenced area to let your dogs run off leash, a forest with cool trails to explore, and a little lake(pond?). They host occasional events here and have a farmers market as well.

Beyond this park is a walking trail around Waughop Lake. The trail is paved & is a mile round trip. It’s level & very ADA & kid friendly. Lots of parking spaces too.

Oh boy, of all the dog parks I frequent in the area this is the absolute gem of them all. There are HUGE off leash areas for dogs to run. It also has trails and an agility area for those interested. I have a siberian husky and she loves to run and run and run here. There are usually other dogs for her to play with. There are drinking fountain for the dogs also. Thank you whoever maintains the water systems here. The dogs sure appreciate it. As far as the rest of the park, there is so much to do! There are hiking trails here. There are also ball fields and a big castle playground for kids. There are some trails that lead to a lake here. The lake is circular so you can walk around it in circles all day. There is a huge hill with some towers on it. I let my dog pull me up the hill, there are some beautiful nature trails up there. Be careful, however. Some people speed through there on their bikes. Honestly I can spend all day at this place. Its perfect.

Came here for a cross country meet in highschool and now its one of my favorite parks to visit. Not too many people in a confined area, plenty of space to walk with social distancing. Has a very large off-leash dog park with provided garbage for poopy trash! Everytime Ive visited, the bathrooms are relatively clean and the grounds are kept up quite nicely. Highly recommend to anyone interested look for a quality walk that isnt too extreme. Also has some cool sights to visit, you got the Lake, Western State Hospital Cementary and Hospital. The old barns are real neat too:)

This park is wonderful. Its HUGE and boasts multiple baseball and soccer fields. Theres a large playground for kids and covered gazebos dotted throughout the park for gatherings or parties. They have a drone field and in the back, a super-sized, off-leash dog park. There are running tracks around the property, too... and a pond. I believe the park hosts seasonal events as well. Fort Steilacoom is the definition of park. Closes at sunset.

Ive only visited for the dog park, and my dog loves it! There are three different fenced in dog parks with one for very small dogs that is fairly small, and two larger parks that are quite large. The larger park furthest from the parking lot is the largest and has room for a small walking trail and a small obstacle course. All dog parks are fairly well maintained as well which is nice. Included in this review is a panoramic picture of one part of the dog park, and an obligatory picture of my dog.

This place has had major changes and updates over several years, thanks to the approval of park funds. The parking area has been paved and spots provided for handicapped, the walkway around the lake is in very good condition with an occasional donated bench for taking breaks and a handy seating area at the most scenic spot. It would be nice if restrooms other than porta potties were provided, but vandalism may not make it possible.
