Just now posting, visited a couple of years back. What a wonderful exhibition of historical value and education. Friendly and accommodating host, super glad we didn’t pass up. Highly recommend for all...
Can you believe that some of the gear worn at Mardi gras is twice as tall as my husband? My only criticism of this museum is that the displays are close together so its difficult to get photos that do the costumes justice. This was a remarkable experience for us. To see the costumes up close and learn about their design and construction was an education. Imagine paying $6000. for an outfit which would be worn about 4 times.About 250 costumes are displayed of the 500 that the museum owns. Theres no dust and no torn fabric evident . In one area you can try on masks etc. Such fun even for mature adults. All in all a unique, educational, and entertaining museum.
I cant say enough good things about this location. I recommend everyone to stop by and enjoy this little gem.
This Mardi Gras Museum in Lake Charles is unique and has the biggest collection of costumes being showcased in the world. I was told that there are 290+ costumes on display.I found it fascinating that the mannequin that are being used to showcase the costumes are customized to reflect the real person who once wore these costumes, very neat isnt it?All the costumes are very beautiful and it allows us to travel back in time to see the various colours, materials, theme that each Krew uses annually. I also get to understand the definition of Krew and how the number of Krew groups determine who is the biggest Mardi Gras in the world. This museum is allows us to understand the Krews, the kings and queens, and the arts & culture of Mardi Gras.
Just Amazing !!! So very neat to see alot of the Mardi Gras costumes of past kings and Queens. Learned alot about what Mardi Gras is really about. The museum curator was wonderful! A complete joy to be around and answered any question about Mardi Gras we had, he really brought everything together. A must see when visiting Lake Charles, or if your a local and just want to learn more about what Mardi Gras truely is.
This place is so AWESOME! This is my first time coming to Mardi Gras. To see all these beautiful costumes was just breath taking! I’m honestly starting to think i was born in the wrong state lol. There are so many costumes to see just when you think it’s going to be over there is another room! The owners of this place are very nice! Will definitely be back when i come back down.
Amazing museum with hundreds of beautiful and creative costumes. The guide was able to answer every question I had. We were so lucky that the museum was open today, and early. They have special hours for Lundi Gras. Thank you!
It was very cool to see the costume that the people wear. And they have a spot for you to try on a costume and play around fun.
Bring the silliest or craziest person you know at this place will be a whole lot of fun. Who knew there was so much history involved in the Mardi Gras. Amazing costumes.
The place was very helpful and acknowledgable but we dont enjoyed.
David was very knowledgeable and made it fun. He turned a visit with teens who werent sure they wanted to come in the first place into one where they were laughing, giggling, having a blast, and spent over 2 hours there. Tons of pictures and wonderful memories made while they got to learn about a local tradition thats new to them. Would highly recommend!
Very beautiful place to go.
So beautiful... We had alot of fun.. Tour guide was the best...
David was awsome! I would go again
So interesting to see all the old costumes. Reasonable price.

My family and i real really enjoyed ourselves.
Mardi Gras Costume History. They should change the name to that. Lots of beautiful Costumes with Blurps about the history of crews but not a true history of Mardi Gras.
Great museum. Also awesome costumes/outfits that are elaborate and big!
We decided to do something different from the casinos and found this interesting gem. So enjoyed it. Keep up the good work.
I went through years ago when they were part of the art walk. Really enjoyed it.

Very unique place to go to learn the history of Mardi Gras. Filled with costumes and color, this museum has a lot to offer.
Had a Great time with our Family visiting from Cartagena, Colombia S.A. The gentleman running the place was very helpful and knowledgable. We were a large group. So instead of charging us the regular rate he gave us a group discount and saved us about 40%
The Mardi Gras Museum is located inside of Central School. Very interesting and beautiful costumes from past kings and queens, plus a whole lot more. A must see for everyone!
This museum is amazing! David was at the front and was able to answer all of our questions regarding history and even how some costumes were constructed! I even learned that, based on costumes, the Krewe of Illusions was my favorite!
So cool to see dont cost much well worth it to stop but plan on spending time there a lot to see and you can try some on and take pics
David was the gentleman who was there today, lots of information to share! We thoroughly enjoyed the visit, the costumes are so elaborate and interesting to see, with a few small masks and hats that you can try out.
One of a kind. Must be seen.
Tons of costumes and history of Mardi Gras to see and they let you wear some of the costumes as well!
Amazing! Loved our visit, the costumes are incredible.
A great presentation of Mardi Gras costumes and Louisiana culture. David welcomed me to the museum and answered every question I asked with enthusiasm. The animatronics are cool, too.If you have about an hour, stop by and check it out.Note: The museum is located inside Central School, on the 2nd floor ( its very easy to find once youre up the stairs) and there is only 1 small sign in front on Kirkman St.
