Can you believe that some of the gear worn at Mardi gras is twice as tall as my husband? My only criticism of this museum is that the displays are close together so its difficult to get photos that do the costumes justice. This was a remarkable experience for us. To see the costumes up close and learn about their design and construction was an education. Imagine paying $6000. for an outfit which would be worn about 4 times.About 250 costumes are displayed of the 500 that the museum owns. Theres no dust and no torn fabric evident . In one area you can try on masks etc. Such fun even for mature adults. All in all a unique, educational, and entertaining museum.

This Mardi Gras Museum in Lake Charles is unique and has the biggest collection of costumes being showcased in the world. I was told that there are 290+ costumes on display.I found it fascinating that the mannequin that are being used to showcase the costumes are customized to reflect the real person who once wore these costumes, very neat isnt it?All the costumes are very beautiful and it allows us to travel back in time to see the various colours, materials, theme that each Krew uses annually. I also get to understand the definition of Krew and how the number of Krew groups determine who is the biggest Mardi Gras in the world. This museum is allows us to understand the Krews, the kings and queens, and the arts & culture of Mardi Gras.

A complete joy to be around and answered any question about Mardi Gras we had, he really brought everything together. A must see when visiting Lake Charles, or if your a local and just want to learn more about what Mardi Gras truely is.

This place is so AWESOME! This is my first time coming to Mardi Gras. To see all these beautiful costumes was just breath taking! I’m honestly starting to think i was born in the wrong state lol. There are so many costumes to see just when you think it’s going to be over there is another room! The owners of this place are very nice! Will definitely be back when i come back down.

David was very knowledgeable and made it fun. He turned a visit with teens who werent sure they wanted to come in the first place into one where they were laughing, giggling, having a blast, and spent over 2 hours there. Tons of pictures and wonderful memories made while they got to learn about a local tradition thats new to them. Would highly recommend!

A great presentation of Mardi Gras costumes and Louisiana culture. David welcomed me to the museum and answered every question I asked with enthusiasm. The animatronics are cool, too.If you have about an hour, stop by and check it out.Note: The museum is located inside Central School, on the 2nd floor ( its very easy to find once youre up the stairs) and there is only 1 small sign in front on Kirkman St.
