Its really cool this is free to visit. The Space Needle in Seattle from the 62 World Fair, I think, charges upwards of $10 to go up to the top. The Sunsphere isnt as tall but its tall enough to see the beauty of Knoxville. At the top in the visiting level theres information screens around that correspond to various sites in the area such as the veterans monument. It was really cool and a great way to be introduced to Knoxville and its point of interest.
Great view of the city. Great that its free. People were very nice and knowledgeable about the area. Lots of cool tidbits regarding the history.
Beautiful view over Knoxville. But they could replace the tint glasses with transparent ones to improve the view.
After making plans to park, walk & go up ...SUNSPHERE IS CLOSED DURING CORONOVIRUS. It wouldve been helpful to have seen this somewhere before finding parking.
The Sunsphere is currently closed due to covid. Nice little walk around the park though. Sept. 20, 2020
Awesome views of Knoxville. During the winter months place could use some cleaning. But otherwise a great spot to visit!
Pretty cool view, but I recommend going when there is still light outside. At night the lights inside reflect off the glass and reduce your view to outside. It still is cool, but would be better during the daytime or at sunset.
A defining landmark in the downtown Knoxville area, it would be hard to miss if youre driving by.Theres a free elevator you can take up to an observation deck within the sphere, which gives you a tinted, panoramic view of the city, along with an assortment of little infoboards that provide some history and context around the sphere and Knoxville itself.Im glad I checked it out, and I would recommend anyone visiting to do the same.
This was a fun experience with my 8 year old daughter. I was at the 1982 World s Fair so I had some context to offer to her for the visit. It was a quick elevator ride to the viewing area. There was good facts to read throughout the Sunsphere. Fun experience! The one downside was there was no parking directions so that part was confusing.
The first time I saw the spire I didnt realize there was an elevator in it that you could take up to the 4th floor and look out over the city. On the observation deck there are helpful plaques and maps to help you see notable places around downtown Knoxville. If this is your first time visiting the city I highly recommend visiting the spire first to help you get your bearings.
It was a great experience. My 5 year old grandson said, “this is great! You can see the whole city from up here!”
This is a cool way to learn a little history about Knoxville and get to see some of the city from above. Plus, its free!!!! Worth checking out if your in town.
Awesome view!!! Open till 10pm to public and FREE!!! Cant wait to go at night next
Wod Fir was pretty boring but the wigs were great.
The views had us at a loss of words. We loved the history lesson plaques that were up there. Check their website for parking areas, its easy to get lost. It could use some closer parking for the handicapped, but it was a beautiful as stroll. Theres a museum, a playground and a water park with field. Security station on site with bathrooms.
I liked the sunsphere, it was cute and the elevator was easily accessible and it wasnt too crowded. The view from the inside is a little tainted brown but the sunsphere from the outside looks awesome
Although website shows the timings to be open till 10 pm, when we reached there around 7 pm it was already closed. It’s mentioned on the elevator that to go to top floor, the elevators will be closed at 6 pm, so please make a note of that if you plan to visit.
What a cool place to visit! Nice kid friendly area!
My husband, daughter and I went on vacation and stopped by here on our way home. It was a little confusing trying to find somewhere to park, we ended up walking a good distance. I am absolutely terrified of heights, but I try to go places to conquer my fear. The pictures really do not show how tall this thing really is! The floor listings stated the third floor was the only one that was open to the public. We were a little disappointed, and I was a little relieved because it wasnt that high and there were some people on the deck. The elevator took forever and it turns out the third floor is the bottom of the sphere. I was pretty terrified especially becuase I was expecting to be 3 stories up. It is a really beautiful view. It also has little plaques telling some info about what youre seeing.
We have been wanting to do this for a long time. What views! Parking was kind of winky, but we managed. Did I mention the view?
Been to all 3 towers in the US built for worlds fairs. The Knoxville one is nice, but lacks pizzazz. Still a great view
A great, free place to take a family day trip. Also theres the playground and water fountains to cool off in the summer and if you have the time, take tours in the Knoxville Museum of Art and The Chocolate Factory!!
Didnt get to go inside due to Covid-19 but seeing it was very cool
There is not much to see. The park is nice just nothing extraordinary, so is the sphere. If you are a fan of “The Simpsons” you might remember this place from the episode “Bart on the road”.
A chance to look at Knoxville with the advantage of a bird’s eye-view! Awesome!!
Beautiful area to visit and picnic at with family. Very peaceful, calming and relaxing to sit and hear the waterfalls
I love that this is free and public, great for a quick site seeing around the town. Very open hours so theres no missing a time where can go up. A must visit when coming to Knoxville area.
First off, its free. Second, its a good place to get a nice ver view of the city. You get a 360 degree view of the city. It also had some information about the things you can see with a little plaque facing the same direction you are looking. Definitely worth stopping by when you are visiting the city.
We came here while waiting for our afternoon flight. Free activity and gives history of Knoxville. Would highly recommend. Allow 30 minutes.
We spent the 4th of July there. Had a fantastic time!
Incredible views and definitely a great place to start when exploring Knoxville for the first time or even 100th time and on top of that ITS FREE!!!!! And now with the rental electric bikes and scooters all over the place it makes for an all around fun and exciting day for all the family and friends you can get together!!!!!
Cool to see and it was free to go up there!
Pretty cool spot, especially early sunny morning when no one is out. It’s free to go to the top for a quick view of the town.
Loved it. Can see for miles and the observation deck is air conditioned, yay! Went during the day, but I think going at night would be beautiful as well.
I had fun going up and exploring the Sunsphere. I also was excited to participate in the 9/11 stair climb here in 2017. The elevator can take you to the top with pretty golden views of the scruffy little town of Knoxville. If you want a quick and free attraction you need to check this out. Parking is available all around the park. Note there are more then one elevator up to the observation deck.
Great area in the middle of downtown beautiful park great place to go for a walk read a book escape the hustle and bustle I went to the Worlds Fair there in 1981 and its fun to stop and reflect upon fun times
Historic and so neat! Free admission with such a rich history. Site of 1982 World Fair!
Un-manned tourist spot. Free. Fun place for a quick visit. This is a walking town so you can see almost everything in downtown
The observation deck is a great place to chill, good views.
Free to get in and perfect for a Sunday afternoon or for when out of towners visit. It doesnt take too long and gives a good view. Theres an elevator to get up also.
Traveled up here from AL. Where me and my wife grew up. Sadi on the wed site it was open. So we go and guess, could not go to the observation. Thats where i proposed to u 16 years ago. Things happen, but was not happy about the web site. We still had a good time.
Very cool place, nice park
Pretty cool! You can go up inside too!
Lol. It’s a great stroll. But I’m always thinking of the simpsons
Love going here! Well worth the time if you have never been it is on the 4th floor. My daughter loves to look at how high we are! Beautiful views!
Impressive structure with a nice history. The observation deck was closed and the fountain/pond next to it was empty when I was there.
Loved it! Great view and amazing spot to kiss.
Cool place to check out the views and its free! Take the elevator to the observatory and take in the 360 degree views.
Pretty cool place to visit when in Knoxville. Also it was free so its nice to go up if you have children and dont have to worry about having to pay a big price just to see a view. The only thing is that it seems like the windows are pretty dirty from the outside, but who is going to be cleaning windows that high up. Still a nice view. Something to look at when taking a walk in the city.
Went up it in 1982 as a kid. Was nice to drive by and see it.
Very neat experience!! A little trippy while up there. But would definitely go back! Love that it is free and we got to experience some amazing views!!
Great viewing area. Easily accessible and air conditioned.
When I last visited my brother in Knoxville, I figured I might as well check out the Sunsphere (having seen it on an episode of The Simpsons years back) while I was in the area. It is neat structure that pops right out the closer you get. There is an elevator to an observation deck, which is where this attraction loses a star from me: Despite a great view of the city--especially the University of Tennessee campus--the windows at the top are filthy, making the city look cloaked in smog/smoke. Needless to say, the interior was not very conducive to capturing good pics of the city from above. Also, despite popular belief, there is *NO* wig storage area at the top within the sphere (the staff made that abundantly clear when asked.)
Great area to visit near Tennessee university area. Great views of the city and no charge is awesome.
Ever since I was a little girl I have wanted to visit this place and I finally got to. Its a nice, lasting memory of the 1982 Worlds Fair. The views are awesome and its completely FREE. Growing up in the Chicagoland area, its no John Hancock building or Sears (Willis) Tower, but pretty cool regardless.
Great view of the surrounding!
Free view of the city! My girls loved it.
Beautiful views. Im from out of town, so this was on my to-do list. I just happened to go on one of the coldest days during my stay, but other than that, it was great!
Was closed due to COVID-19
Its free and you should check the view from it. Felt like inside the tower could be updated.
I held an event here for a group of out of town guests. There was about 35 of us and we really enjoyed the space. The views are the best. Thanks to the staff for helping us figure out the space.
This is a neat spot. It was hot and I was glad for the AC inside the sphere. No fee to go up and see the view and learn about the area.
Had no idea what the structure was, but some nice locals gave us some history. So, we took a visit. Gives a great view of the city from the 8th floor. Worth checking out if you are in Downrown Knoxville.
Eye opening view of Knoxville • Parking ride to the top of the observation deck is free for all visitors too!
Surrounded by a bunch of confusing one way streets and parking feels non existent. Not much to see here outside of “God’s Golf Ball.”
Beautiful art and history, closed tho
Its a vantage point, if visiting Knoxville its worth a visit.
A cool opportunity to take in downtown Knoxville. The Sunsphere is close to Knoxville’s historical district and is a “must see” attraction if you are visiting the city. There are historical plaques inside of the dome and the admission is free.
We got engaged at the Sunsphere back in 2005 before it was reopened. Has always been a favorite spot for us and now we take our kids down there occasionally to play and see the city. Love it.
Was very cool to go there and see the city.
The Sunsphere is a great place to visit. The view from the top was phenomenal. It is free and has excellent hours to visit. A must do in Knoxville.
Free observation deck, open daily 9-10
A delightful walk around the observation deck serves to remind the public of the beauty of dreaming big and working to achieve the dreams. This is a gem from the worlds fai of 1982. Plus it is free to see!
Great views of Knoxville. I have to admit I only went here because of The Simpsons. Found discarded wig outside wigsphere, made my day
Free Top View in the Sphere. Good place to walk around or have lunch outside.
Due to the covid19 couldnt go into it but the area was beautiful for being inside a city. Would recommend for a place to run, relax, or have fun with family.
This is the landmark from Knoxville Tennessee, they built this for the world fair of 1982
FINALLY got to see the Simpsons reference.
It is definitely a neat building to look at. Its open to the public until 10pm. We went up at 730 on a Sunday night and we were the only ones up there. It is free which is very nice. Parking is not easy. We parked in a lot 3 blocks away and walked over. The part I didnt like is when you go up at night the lights inside reflect off the windows. It makes it very difficult to get any good pictures or see out that well. Definitely worth a visit but maybe better to visit during the daylight hours.
Worth the visit. It is amazing how beautiful the Knoxville city skyline is from this structure. The windows could use a bit of cleaning though!
Rosas Catering for a wedding on the 6&7 floors. Tre bien
Absolutely beautiful.. first time ever visiting there besides the history that is given and the beautiful view. Its now a long lasting memory for me and my new fiance. He asked and I said yes..
Great view overlooking Knoxville. Even looks great from the museum! Will go again with the family next visit.
Great views and its free!
Amazingly free with wonderful views of the city while being completely accessible by foot.
Beautiful view of every direction of Knoxville from downtown Knoxville.
Is it a disco ball? Is it an expression of dominance over the surrounding countryside? Is it an homage to Ra, God of the Sun? It’s all that and more (probably). Actually, we Knoxvillians don’t know what it is, but it is ours and we love it.
Amazing experience for free. I loved having satellite view on the area around the sphere and obviously seeing all around the city. Highly recommended.
When in Knoxville its a must to come here. Especially at sunset. Great place to see this beautiful city.
Sunsphere? You mean the Wigspehre. That was awesome.
Unique experience. Neat to see the skyline. Worth the trip. Hard to find parking.
Sunsphere has very good views of Knoxville from the level 4 observation. Be careful with the elevators though - I came with a large group that crammed a bunch of people in, and the elevator started to ascend with the doors open! Maybe we just overloaded it... It is free to go up to the observation level, so its a good cheap thing to do if you are in the area.
Nice attraction. Wish they were open in dark to enjoy city lights
Excellent place to go! The sphere itself is incredible, and the views, plus the information stations, are amazing. If you are in Knoxville, and you have an hour to spare, it is well worth the experience. And to top it off, the entire thing is completely FREE!
The view from the top is lovely! I feel like it would benefit from a restaurant or something at the very top but maybe thats just because I wanted a reason to stay longer.
