Cool area. Well groomed and also paved trails.Extreme downhill biking as well as easy to advanced standard trail biking available. Theres a big difference between the two, so dont get them mixed up if you dont have a full face helmetWe went for the sunflowers. They plant them for the pollinators. Pretty awesome. Massive fields of them. I dont think youre supposed to pick them, though some people do. Dont be that guy (or gal).Boat launches into the river, swimming areas, lots of East Tennessee coolness.
I love going here to walk or run with my dog. I also bring my kiddos here to ride bikes. The trail is paved. Also, if you are into mountain biking, they have a ton of non paved trails as well. You can sit by the river as well, great views. During the day, youll see small airplanes landing at the nearby airport.
Love this place. Nice spot for the sunflowers in July! Connects to some of the trails that go around it, and a great place to escape the city but no facilities. Bring water and be prepared for walking (and bugs).
Beautiful. 2.3 mile trail or walking to end and back 4.6 mile asphalt trail through woods. People biking. On the other side people were swimming in the cold water. Didnt look real clean. Fun!
The trail is nice and quite. Scenic views as well. I Actually saw a white tailed deer drinking water at the end of the trail which over looks like a ravine. Some trails are closed due to season and hunters. Overall great trail.
We had a lovely 1.0 mile walk to the open fields full of beautiful sunflowers. It was hot but worth it, we also got to see 2 garden snakes crossing . Awesome experience!
Nice place to walk around, very peaceful. Beautiful sunflowers when they are there. If you live nearby, definitely worth to check it out.
Such a beautiful place. I spent the whole day here. We had a picnic and walked for about 4 miles. Seen lots of deer. Very clean place. And handicap accessible.
This is a nice paved trail adjacent to Ijams, actually connects with those trails. From the gravel parking lot, begin walking (or bicycling) to the right. A few miles in and youll begin to go uphill. At the top is where the greenway turns to dirt and goes through the woods. I havent ventured far beyond this point, so I suggest that you pack properly.
No sign for directions and distance at entrance. Us and the older people we met had no idea what we were facing in the heat. Some had to turn around. The sunflowers were drying up but some still pretty. People need to know mileage and to take water and maybe a snack.
Pretty decent park, clean and has nice views. Bring back the sun flowers.
Had a great time. More parking would be good but still had fun
Great trails and beautiful views. Enjoyed a bike ride through the area and checked out the Sunflower fields
We love going here! We take nice family walks by the water, and my daughter loves the shady trail. Highly recommend.
Nice walking trails, easy access, beautiful flowers. Nice and cool by the river
We were a little disappointed because the flowers were already starting to fade. Still a beautiful place to see!
The main use of this land is for hunting from September to May. There are signs all over the parking area and up the main trail *McClure Ln* please stay off of the interior trails if you are not a licensed hunter/ are not there for hunting purposes for your own safety. Multiple times this past season, hikers would walk right up on me while I was out there off of trails. Please remember hunters do not expect a person to be in the woods when they are aiming at their deer or turkey. The projectiles coming out of the muzzle of a shot gun can travel a very long distance. Be safe and read the signs
Enjoyed the trek to see the sunflowers.
Love love love this area! We come as a family to run and hike often. Its always super pleasant and even when there have been events going on, weve always found parking which is awesome. On the weekends there are always families and everyone brings their puppers. There are bathrooms but bring a bag or two for the pup as the pick up bag stations arent restocked often. Trails are well maintained and marked and the paved path is a perfect amount of hilly for good exercise running or walking. And its wide enough to pass bike traffic with a stroller. Wonderful place to come be in the woods for a little while and its safe. There are fewer people during the week but theres almost always someone here.
Nice place to bring your dog and walk some trails. Come in fall to see sunflowers
Normally I would rate 5 stars. This year was a little disappointing due to Covid and lack of rain. Still worth the visit to see the sunflowers.
Sunflowers starting to come up in one of the inland fields. Not the one right next to the parking lot. Taken on 6/27/20
The sunflower field is gorgeous but I always miss it when the flowers are healthy. Maybe next time! Either way, its a great spot.
Gorgeous, well-maintained management area. PLEASE be aware of the posted rules during hunting season! This area is closed until noon some days during the season and all day on some days as well. Running/walking/hiking can be dangerous during these times! Great for dove hunting and the sunflowers are gorgeous just before dove season. Easily accessible and great trails.
Nice flat paved trail by the river. Partly shaded.
We went there recently to see the sunflowers. They were breathtaking. If you want to go you better get there this season. They are letting the earth rejuvenate and wont be replanting them until 2019.
We missed the blooming of the sunflowers but we still had a good time.
Such beautiful sunflowers! Perfect for photography sessions.
It’s a field of sunflowers
Great place for a walk or run. Lots of beautiful open fields and nature walks along the river.
The open parking is very small and was crowded, anyhow is a nice area to go for a walk.
Beautiful sunflower field.
Had so much fun in the sunflowers
Nice place to run. Close to downtown.
The sunflowers are amazing!
Amazing place for hiking. Bikes and dogs welslcome. Endless trails.
Such a beautiful place to walk, run, bike, hike and enjoy the sunflowers.
The great outdoors! Great place to hike, walk,& Bike
The sunflower fields are beautiful!
Just went for a little bike ride by the river.
A real pain in the butt to get in and out of during the Sunflower field viewing! Dont pay to park, just keep driving the road dead ends into a gravel lot. You have to walk to the fields on busy days. The trail at Ijams in the parking lot goes to the fields. Tons of happy honey bees here!
Great place for easy family walks
Made it here in September. No sunflowers :(
Wonderful place for a run!
Great place to spend an afternoon..
Beautiful sunflowers and great walking trails by the river.
5 stars just for the sunflowers . Beautiful! And the new larger parking area is great too.
We went there to see the fields of sunflowers but were a week late as most of them had already wilted. Its a nice area to walk around in. Its a bit too close to the city for my liking but it seems like a nice place to walk for locals who live near the area.
Lovely place for a bike ride
Peaceful, pretty and paved trail. Well maintained with not a piece of litter in sight. The main trail is a very easy walk or bike ride.
Nice hike/bike along the water
Beautiful Sunflowers Nice Scenery
Forks of the river wildlife area is perfectly fine and beautiful. Whats not fine are these directions. Maps takes you to you to I believe it is called Pickle Island with a pool manufacturer that is gated. We made it through the gate and were almost trapped inside. The wildlife area is on the OTHER side of the river with no way to cross . You must drive another 20 minutes from here to cross the river and see the fields, which is nice. Google Maps, please fix!!!
There is a ton of good hiking and biking trails. Enjoyed a short evening hike.
Wonderful place for a nice long hike.
Beautiful place beautiful work dose good work will always take stuff to thim
Lots of parking. Shady trails and an overlook of the river.
Loved being in nature and the bike trails
Keep the urban wlderness beautiful love spending time here.
Walk through nature love it.
Well-preserved and maintained. Walking trails galore!
I missed the sunflowers but the hiking was pleasant with many paved paths. Close proximity to meads quarry lends opportunity to cool off after a hot day exploring
This will not be back next year. It is worth the trip. Breath taking
Fun Family walk though a great wide open gravel trail.
Gorgeous and a nice walk well shaded too
Beautiful spot, nicely arranged for enjoying the river and surrounds. Really appreciate the sunflower fields ( every 2 years), its a beautiful space that brings joy to many people.
The sunflowers are wonderful. Be careful if you use Google maps to navigate to this park. It may not get you to the right location. It took us to a gated private corporate complex.
Very scenic and perfectly shaded.
Great place to take a stroll. Family friendly and dog friendly. Also have a nice even pave walkway. Great for those with strollers.
It was beautiful with all the sunflowers blooming. Unfortunately we missed the peak and the blooms are turning to seed now, but soon it should be a great place for bird watching.
If you visit in August, you can see zombie plants which are almost more intriguing than the blooms
Trying to find your way here is a nightmare. My wife was super excited to come here with the kids and we drove way out of our way to make it on our vacation. We came at the time of year when they’re supposed to be in full bloom, and every single sunflower was dead and rotting. The place stunk of dead vegetation and plants.
Love to go hiking
DO NOT Follow Google maps it takes you tothe wrong place. It takes you 20 minutes out of the way and you end up in a parking lot that’s gated for a pool manufacturer.I’m not sure how Google maps got this SO wrong. but it was horrible going to the wrong spot and there were many trucks behind me and I had to turnaround.Put Ijams in your Google maps and look for the sunflower signs!
The Sunflowers werent bloomed yet it was a waste of my time hiking there to see a bunch of brown kinda dead looking sunflowers but Im sure when they have bloomed they look nice
TWRA did a great job with the Sunflowers. We took pics and really enjoyed the whole place
Love the trail system here
That was my first experience there and I will return. The sunflowers were past the blooming stages, but it was very nice to be out in nature inside the city.
Great birding Park or hiking.
Sun Flowers are in the top left corner of the park if thats what you are going to see. Its about 5 miles if you do the full loop like we did, we started in the bottom parking lot.
Dove Fields are nice, been twice, but didnt see much.
Beautiful to.discover this gem in South Knoxville! Bill Smith was a fantastic wildlife biologist who taught us so much!
Many nice trails and events here.Getting kind of popular - lots of people parked there today (Sat).
Good for running, biking, and walking dogs! Good shade on much of the trail. Usually not as busy as the rest of Ijams.
Very well managed landTons of sunflower fields for dove hunting and bird watching
The road to parking could stand to be wide enough for a car going each way and a trash can or two would be helpful, but it is still a nice area and the sunflowers were awesome!
Beautiful walk along the river.
A wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature without the long drive to the mountains.
Sunflowers are blooming. These are planted every other year by TWRA. Great place for walking or hiking. Beautiful here and next to Ijams nature center.
It was beautiful walk! The sunflowers are gorgeous!
Location for sunflowers : Youre looking for the orange box for parking, I found this on Facebook. Google maps will get you lost. The other others polygon is where youll see the sunflowersHope you reach your destination!
Beautiful. If you have never been: gravel parking and the maintained trail is between the signs in the parking area. Dogs on leash are welcome. Trail is shaded and you get glimpses of the river. The sunflowers are visible from the trail in spots till you get out of trees. Goat pathes from the parking lot and the paved trail to the flowers. We didnt attempt to take the wheelchair closer; the first 2 pathes were muddy and steep. But it didnt hinder our day and the views we had were wonderful. Bikers and runners share the path so remember to be alert. Everyone was happy and enjoying the day! Manual chairs will need help in the gravel lot and initial access to the trail as you transition from gravel, up a short incline on dirt to maintained trail.
So Beautiful. My grandson and I had a wonderful time.
Beautiful sunflowers, wish I had more time to check out the park
