Used to be good before they started having so many private swim teams and competitions. There was apparently a rift that caused a team to split into two or three teams and they all reserved lanes at the pool. YMCA members pay a premium to use this facility; however, I and many others have been kicked out of lanes because of scheduled team practices. There are lots of high school pools these teams could be using that arent generally open to the public. It seems like competitions are taking place more often here than ever before and it completely fills up the YMCA parking lot when inconsiderate parents dont follow instructions to park in the designated area away from the building. The city has really mismanaged this potentially great facility. They should have multiple city police officers directing traffic for these events.During the summer, parents leave their kids here, and they run wild screaming in locker rooms and cursing everywhere. The YMCA staff has reported feeling helpless to address the issue since the building is controlled by the city of Kingsport. The managers have taken multiple steps to reduce the citys costs, such as replacing good shower heads with new ones that give a trickle of water and reducing pool hours. If you work an 8-5 job or beyond, you get minimal opportunity to use the pool.

This is a great place for the whole family. It is wonderful for me to work out in the water. Aquatic exercise is all I can do due to health issues. The membership is very affordable. They give senior discounts as well. Also, check with your insurance company. Some insurances will pay all expenses for seniors to attend the center. I noticed some comments about children bumping into people and being unruly. Yes, this does happen from time to time. There are children playing, its a pool ! It has been my experience that when this happens, most children say they are sorry or excuse me. We were all children once. If children splashing, having fun and maybe getting you wet is not your cup of tea, dont go swimming here. This is a family environment, there will be children. I also noticed some people complaining about all the rules the life guards make children obey. This is their job. These rules keep the children safe as well as everyone else that is swimming. Regarding comments about bringing drinks into the center. You can bring your own empty cup into the center. There are ice cold water colors spread through the area, at no charge. You can have water anytime. No, they dont allow one to bring food into the center. However, you can pack a lunch and go back to your vehicle and eat it. Many people do this. There is a concession stand in the center. The prices are average. Nothing on the menu is over priced. So if you are looking for a place to enjoy the water and/or get in some aquatic exercise, go check this place out. You will be happy that you did.

I am not one to leave negative reviews, but I have never in my entire life had such bad burns/swelling in my feet than from being there. I do understand that its common sense to wear water shoes or flip flops/sandals to a water park, which I did, however the pavement that covers the entire park is solid concrete that is scorching hot. There needs to be a SIGN that tells parents that they strongly suggest their children to wear water shoes while walking around the entire water park. You have to walk on the concrete in order to enter the lazy river. Wearing them in and leaving them at your chair does no good.

If you need a lap pool and facility for training then this is not the place. It is useless to have a membership and plan on showing up to swim. Nearly every weekend the pool is closed for some event and during the week very few lanes are available for members to use. Unfortunately this is the only exercise pool in the area. Also there are no saunas or whirlpools, which should be standard for a competition facility. We are cancelling our membership after not being able swim on our past 4 attempts.

There were boys bumping into us when they were swimming underwater and splashing around. Then rain came and forced everyone inside so my boys took their towels and shirts and flip flops to the mens locker room. An hour later we were leaving and their stuff was gone. It was stolen!! The facility employees pretty much said that its normal. I am livid!! So now I dont even want to go back!!! What kind of trash do they allow to be members there??

Some people have described the Aquatics Center as having unruly guests, and hardheaded lifeguards. As far as guests go, there is no way to filter what kind of people will be paying to go into the pool, nor is discrimination of any kind allowed. In my experience, the lifeguards have been very friendly to all the patrons. The most common reason that a lifeguard has to take actions to save a guests life is because the guest was not following proper safety rules, and often these guests are young children, hence all the rules crafted to that age group. In the case of the slides, there are actually no lifeguards sitting up at the top of the slides. The employees that do sit above the slides are call Aquatic Attendants, and they do not have any Red cross certified lifeguard training. There have been instances where a child that was previously allowed to go onto the slide is no longer allowed to go down the exact same slide under supervision of a different aquatic attendant. I can assure you that this is only for safety. Some aquatic attendant dont enforce the rules very heavily, where as others do. If all children that were close to the minimum height were allowed to go, then before to long all the children within a few inches of the children that were only an inch or two under the minimum height would be allowed to go, until the point that the height limit would utterly be abolished or completely unenforced. Overall, the Aquatics Center is a great place to take the family, with a great facility and just a great employees. Just remember two very important things: NO RUNNING, and NO WALKING ON THE MULCH

They want you to buy food from their concessions so I did and got so sick i spent at least an hour in bathroom before I could gather my stuff and leave! I have never in my life seen a place with so many rules omg! Do you know a 3 year old cant even wear the little flotation devices on their arms unless it is authorized by the us swim devices. Ridiculous! How many parents let their 3 year olds in the pool by themself only to depend on the arm floats anyway? Duh! This place is a joke. Return to Wetlands for me and my family!

But my oh my, I have NEVER got a whistle blown on me anywheres in my life before but they literally blew this whistle at me 5x in one day!!! Im sure its for insurance purposes but my baby couldnt use her float that was 2 whistle blows. My baby couldnt go down the baby slide with me, 1 more. Got out of the pool not using the stairs 1 more blow. And there wasnt enough floats for everyone on and my kids couldnt use the only floats available, another blow. Like chill yall!!! And to beat it all they checked my bags like I was carrying a bomb or something. Now I have 4 kids, thats alot of stuff to carry to go to the pool. They literally opened every little pocket, zipper, bag. I honestly felt violated. If your looking for foods/drinks or weapons I dont think the search should be that extensive. Even Dollywood doesnt go through our things like that.

They should be respectful of all parents with kids of all ages, especially full time working parents.

Today was my first time going to the Aquatic Center. When I came in, I was given no information other than food and drinks from outside were not allowed. Since the price to get in is so high, I assumed that the lockers would be expensive as well (they are actually free for anyone who would like to know). I sat my Chacos underneath a pool chair and got in the lazy river. When I came back to my chair my shoes were gone. The manager on duty was rude and offered no help whatsoever. I understand that there are lockers but it would have been helpful to know that coming in. He told me that he would look around for them but didnt even ask what the shoes looked like. I saw him five minutes later laughing and joking around with some lifeguards. I was not impressed with the customer service and the attitudes of the faculty of this facility as a whole. I will not be returning here ever again.

I was so excited to finally get the time to give the Aquatic Center a try. Its great location with a view of the Appalachian Mountains in the background. I was startled from the beginning when I was told there is a mandatory bag check in which my water was confiscated and thrown out. This is very unnecessary for a public facility. I understand not letting people in with alcoholic beverages or a 12 pack of soda, but some people have medical conditions requiring certain food and drink that may not be served in the concession area or that they can not afford to purchase from there. I think this policy is not very inclusive and quite discriminatory towards those with medical needs or the inability to pay for food from the concession area. The ticket price was half off when I visited and cost $5. There was also very ample seating as school has started back and I went during the week. There is no where to actually swim outside. There is a 3 ft lazy river, a 3ft section to stand in, a 3 ft section that the slides dump off in and a very shallow kids area. You are not allowed to bring in outside floats or noodles as well. My friend and I (we are in our 30s) were constantly getting fussed at by life guards for everything from standing up in the lazy river bc there was a family of slow moving floats in front of us and we were trying to not run in to them to bringing our pool noodles with us, although no one said anything at the door while they were confiscating my water. The concession area is nice and the attendants there were friendly. They have offerings like corn dogs and nachos to muffins and candy bars. The bathrooms were as expected for a pool. I could see this being an ok place to take a kid if you have no expectations of swimming, but as a childless adult who likes to swim, I won’t be returning. I can’t justify the cost.

Its to expensive! Most could not afford to return more than once a week without a membership especially if you have more than 2 in your family. Its a great place for small children and I loved the lazy river. Unfortunately I wont be returning on a regular basis but maybe on a special occasion. Older children and teens either have to swim inside or use the lazy river and the slides unless they want to crawl around in a 3ft kiddie pool. Lifeguards were pretty alert but changed positions often. They offer life jackets free of use. No outside food or drinks allowed so again if you have a big family it would be a very expensive outing. $10 for adults $8 for for my 5 year old and we were the guest of a member that day. Kids swim and go underwater in the lazy river, so its really hard to just float and relax. There is a pool where they can swim. Last time I went, a 3 week old baby was on a float and the mother was fanning the baby. A little boy went underwater and came back up and almost knocked the baby off. The lifeguards did nothing!! A family member of mine took her kids. She was floating on the lazy river and was sharing a float with her 1 year old son because he could not be in a float himself. A lifeguard rudely told her that she could not do that. He was a year old! He could not be in a float by himself and ive seen many people do that before! They are really rude! I am very disappointed that they cant communicate any better than that and after my grandson starts crying then they want to apologize and say Oh, well, Im sorry about that it shouldnt have been allowed in here by the same MANAGER that let me in with it. We usually LOVE this place, but. It is very unprofessional and inconsiderate to change the pool hours for Sunday with no advanced notice or even bother to change the hours online and on the signage at the pool. We were outside waiting for 20 minutes this Sunday with no idea along with the other 30 or so people that the hours had been changed to noon. As members this significantly effects our desire to maintain our membership especially because Sunday mornings are the best times for my family and I to go to the outdoor pool. The majority of your customers are people with children and it can be a major undertaking to get everyone ready, out the door, and covered in sunblock only to be sent home because you guys decided to keep it top secret information that the pool would not open until noon. I could understand if the hours needed to be changed but to do it in the way you guys chose to is unexceptionable. What in the world were you thinking?

Good points--its got nice pools and other facilities, its clean, and of course everything is fairly new.Bad points:1) No outdoor pool. Especially for the kids and those who just want to splash around in the water and not really swim. The lazy river is not a substitute.2) More proactive policing of the lap lanes. Too many times the lifeguards just sit there as kids jump into the lap lanes. The easiest solution for this is to simply have an outdoor pool for the kids, and keep the two indoor pools for lap swimmers and for competitions. This is also why I think they should have kept the old Legion Pool open, as a just kids pool.3) In addition to this, there should be a policy where if more than two swimmers have to be in the lap lanes, no backstrokes or any other strokes should be allowed where one cant see where one is going. I have experienced this problem here and at other pools, some man or woman gets into the same lap lane and does a backstroke and cant see where theyre going and crashes into you routinely.4) While the warm pool water is acceptable, the large pool water is far too cold. I can swim more than 2 hours in the warm pool (and in other pools) but often I have to exit prematurely from the large pool just because Im freezing.5) The hours are not convenient. Too-often the pool closes early, even on holidays whered youd think it would be/should be open longer (July 4th, Labor Day, etc). Too-often the pools are closed for swim meets and competitions. It seems the pool neglects people who use it to maintain a healthy lifestyle and who want to workout every day in order to serve school swim teams or whatnot. And forget about using it for training for a triathlon, where you need the daylight hours to put in runs and/or bike rides (you can swim safely at night, after all, and need to save the daylight for bike rides or runs). The pool closes at 6 pm on weekends! I cant for the life of me see why they couldnt close early on Wednesdays and Fridays for their parties and leave weekend nights open to 10 pm. The pool used to be open until 10 pm on weeknights but now closes at 9 (and really, they chase you out 10 minutes before closing, so its really only open to 8:50).As I said, you cant rely on this as an reliable exercise option.

Was also their with a friend. Her son passed the deep area swim test but because he was trying to walk and his head was almost under life guard insisted he wear a life vest cause he was making him nervouse. There was no reason for him to have one. He did not want one nor did his mother. They should not be able to force life vests on children. It should be up to the parent. Also dont like the lazy river cause they allow swimming in it. I had a child swim under my childs tube. The child came up under my childs tube and knocked him out of it. My son can swim but it startled him and he freaked. I think this is very unsafe way more unsafe then diving toys or a mermaid doll. I do not recommend going here.

I had a very unpleasant experience at the Kingsport Aquatic Center this evening.... Let me state, that we have never had an issue until today...For starters, I had no idea vaporizing my electronic cigarette was not allowed on the property. I understand there is a No Smoking sign, but the two did not click. Regardless, I am very sorry for not understanding the rules. One of your lifeguards, Sophia, VERY rudely came up to me, my friend, and my 18-month-old and told me to not do that on the property.... I totally understand why she told me no, since the sign clearly states no smoking is allowed.... But Sophia did not ask me in a nice way by any means! She basically yelled at me, and disrespected me. If she would have asked me nicely, and professionally I would have totally understood! I told one of the other life guards, and hopefully they confronted Sophia about being so rude to a customer that had no idea about the rules! But, that is not the rest! After we were all ready to leave, we were walking through the parking lot, and came across a man.... This man was in his Audi Convertible with his top down doing VERY inappropriate things to himself.... Im sure I dont have to go into detail.... He was starting at women and children.... My friend called the police and we had it reported....In Conclusion, you have a very nice facility, but you have a few kinks to work out! While your lifeguard is yelling at me over vaporizing, you have perverts in your parking lot doing God knows what!!!!! I am very displeased with my experience today and hope you guys can work something out!!!! Beware to anyone that goes to the Kingsport Aquatic Center!!!!!Sincerely,Olivia Lafosse
