Beautiful nature preserve owned and maintained by WMU. Great for kids, dogs, and hikers! Running is fine if you have good train shoes. The terrain includes rocky wooded trails, grassy field and sidewalks. And hey, you might even make some friends

The preserve is a great place to get up close to nature. The trails are well kept but not paved so it feels natural. Even though its close to done major roads and the highway, once youre out of the parking lots its completely separated. Love walking here with the family.

I hike a lot of places and this is small. It was also really cool. I literally was 20 feet from a deer that didnt seem to care I was there. Deer can be really dangerous so dont try to pet them.

Beautiful place all year round. Lakes, a little spring, and huge trees complete its look. Its very interesting for adventuring if youre willing to go a little off path. Otherwise, youll fun into come concrete paths, I assume they belonged to the old asylum. I can see how you could get easily lost, I would say thats the onlky downside, but its just as easy to map out.

A great little preserve that showcases several southwest Michigan biomes in a relatively small area. Despite the small area, there are enough unique trails that you could walk there every day for a month and not take the exact same path twice.Only complaints are that the lake itself is full of toxic runoff and the trails can get a little muddy in spring.

Mi
Review №46

Nice walk along wooded trails and along the lakes, very scenic area and much wildlife spotted. One can walk all the way around the larger lake but there is not an official trail all the way, very muddy in spots There are also grassy trails to do on the preserve but they were not experienced except for one short section. That one needed a little trimming. Many of the grassy trails where the beginning could be seen looked fine though. Point is, dont let a little overgrowth stop you. Definitely worth your visit.

Although I grew up in the area and knew this lake was there, this was the first time Id hit the trails. They are varied and well maintained, and the scenery is gorgeous. I went for a walk Wednesday night and Thursday morning and saw law enforcement patrolling both times, which is reassuring. I cant wait to go back!

Came here on Saturday with a friend of mine. This is a very nice preserve! I love that theres a trail along Asylum Lake, and when I was here the park was quite clean. The trails are nicely maintained as well, and even the outhouse was fairly clean. This is also a good spot for birding. I saw a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker VERY close when I was here.

One of the best parks in Kalamazoo. Lots of accessible varied trails for walking and bird watching. Many of which would be good for gravel biking although bikes are not allowed in the park. Would recommend this as it is close to campus and a great location for relaxing activities and fun.

A great place to walk, surrounded by trees, a lake and beautiful birds. Wave hello or nod to the passerby walking her dog or sit in the shade for a chat or to sketch/paint. My creative juices start to flow when Im enchanted by natures raw and uninhibited splendor. The spray of orange and pink in the green of treetops, the scurry of chipmunks and the chirp of a bird.. These are a few of my favorite things

Beautiful park and a great spot to walk the trails that is dog friendly. The preserve is large enough you dont feel like there are a ton of people (for those who like a walk to themselves) but is always populated enough you can feel safe walking around by yourself. I love this preserve mostly because you can wander through the grasslands type area and see lots of deer/butterflies or wander through the woods and along the lake-there is a type of trail for everyone. Lots of small creeks and bridges too for local photographers. All around great park with easy access to parking etc.

Beautiful, peaceful, tranquil. I like that there are a few different ways to get into the preserve, and one with a nice big parking area. You can either walk through tall grassy areas or go deeper into the woods. Great place to see wildlife. Close to the city but when youre there it doesnt feel that way.

Great to get back into trail running. Variety of small loops(mostly unpaved) within the park. There is a paved path around the exterior.

An
Review №98

My dogs favorite trail :)There are so many different routes it really doesnt ever get boring. There is wooded, lakeside, grassy field and even a small stretch of paved trails.Sometimes there are not enough parking spots, but usually not an issue.Trails are best for hiking but I also occasionally run here for a challenge. I havent tried biking but with the right type of bike would probably be fun.
