Admission too high for a 3 pm showing. $10 versus $8 at Cinemark and Regal. However they do have nachos and complete menu. All you can get at Cinemark and Regal are drinks and popcorn and candy. I used to go to Sun Ray/ Five Points theatre in the 60s and 70s. Now I only go when there are quirky movies that arent playing anywhere else, such as The Owners.

This is such a great boutique, dining movie experience with selections like house-made pizzas, sandwiches, Twankies, popcorn, lots of other movie snack staples, and a nice selection of soda, beer, & wine to choose from.

Beer and a movie? Hell yes. Love it when they play JAWS on the 4th of July. Been here about a dozen times. It is old. It is vintage. It is great. Popcorn comes in a pretty large size.

Good food, good people, good movies. I appreciate that they are open to showing films that are suggested by the community. I really wanted to see the Jane Goodall documentary years ago when it was first released and they were nice enough to play it!!!

I took my girlfriend on a date here last night, and we both loved it. Sun Ray cinema is a cozy cinema tucked in five points, located in Riverside. The staff are friendly, and extremely accommodating. You can order entire bottles of wine, and have it right in front of you during the movie. They have the BEST topping station for popcorn. If you love small indie cinemas, or a cute date night, this is the perfect place.

This little gem is nestled in the 5 Points of Riverside. As soon as you enter the doors, you’re transported back in time to when movies were the highlight of the weekend, and the pinnacle of a night out. The inside it adorned with classic movie memorabilia, as well as some pretty awesome swag (t-shirts). They have 2 screening rooms, usually showing an independent film on one, and a blockbuster film on the other. Movie showings are constantly changing, which offers a chance for everyone to give this place a try. Did I mention the food? Yep. They offer a full menu, complete with beer and wine offerings, that is brought out to you during your viewing. Need I say more?

The perfect neighborhood cinema theatre. Back in the old days neighborhoods in cities across the US had their own local movie house. Many have closed or have been repurposed. Sun Ray Cinema has been lovingly restored and made awesome by having a smaller theater. We die hardship are always treated to obscure videos and shorts before the coming attractions. We in the neighborhood are very grateful to have Sun Ray in our neighborhood.

The atmosphere that they create here is unmatched. They have 2 Cinemas here, with the larger seating more than 50 people. You can order food and more importantly beer here while you watch your movie. The staff is always very nice and helpful. I only have good things to say about this place. Even when I moved away, I still tell all my friends about this movie theater. This is my all time favorite. 5 STARS. Must go.

We came here after Christmas with my fiances brother at his recommendation. I will honestly never go to another commercial theater again if I can help it. The atmosphere is hip and cool, their paintings outside of the theaters drawing your eye to every corner of the place. Their popcorn was delicious and such a great price as well! I never knew I needed pepper on my popcorn, but now I do. The staff was friendly and you could tell they genuinely loved the place. The tables in front of the seats were unlike anything Id ever seen before and were so original! It is one of my favorite places to go and I cant wait to go see another movie here!

Due to Covid-19, I cant imagine things have been going well for any movie theater. However SunRay has opened itself to on demand movies and private functions. Its an amazing experience that is well worth supporting one of my favorite theaters in these trying times. Staff was appreciative and understanding that our arrival was late due to two accidents on I-10, and their service was amazing. I cant sing Sun Rays praises enough.Shanna reached out and talked with us throught the process and was very friendly and amazing. Love this cinema and small bussines!!10/10

This is a great theater. The atmosphere is really relaxed and the food is pretty decent. We saw Parasite and it was definitely an unpredictable movie. The tickets are well priced and they do military discounts

My boyfriend and I love Sun-Ray! This is a movie lovers theater for sure, and its our favorite spot for date night. The pizza and wine make any movie we see even better, and the popcorn is the best around! Definitely a place to check out if youre looking for a change from the normal movie theater scene.

I drove hours to finally come check out Sun Ray and know what? Its so much MORE punk rock that I thought and i loved it. It made me immediately root for it. If I lived here, Id frequent every day. They show the current movies at all your local cibemas, but they have alot if cool, independent, oddball programming that you can catch most days of the week. They sell beer and wine only. They have ciders and they sell funky snacks and sandwhiches as well. I dug the place and plan on going back soon.

A vintage theater with old-fashioned quirky charm! Independent, so it screens all sorts of things that the big chains do not. The seats dont recline, but there is an interesting feature of a long, narrow tabletop in front of each row of seats so you can spread out your food & drinks and have plenty of space for everything. Right in the busy heart of the busy 5-Points/Riverside neighborhood, the area is friendly and walkable if you want to make a full day of movie and lunch or dinner. There is plenty of free parking in the general area and behind the theater building, but you might end up having to walk a bit after you find a space so plan your time accordingly.

Very cool environment to eat your meal while you watch a movie. Food is excellent! Many vegan options also. Coffee and beer milkshakes highly recommended. Love the Falafel wrap and the loaded fries. Only negative is that the movies are limited to 3 that are not always top choices.

Weve been here more times than I can remember now. Not just your standard movie theater food selection. Beer on tap at a reasonable price and service at your seat if you order any thing that needs cooked. Great come when you walk in and the movie selection is unique. It only had two screens but I recommend trying both. The small one up front is enjoyable because its more like having a man cave at home. The larger one is great because you arent packed in tight. Newer and very comfortable seating. Ghibli fest movies are played there.

A first rate art house cinema. Excellent prints and projection facilities. Saw some superb films here. Fritz Langs Metropolis a classic of the German Weimar Republic in a beautiful restored print. Please give this wonderful repertory theater your patronage.

Jacksonville Gem! Ive walked the streets of 5 points time and time again never thinking to stop at this beauty until this weekend after the pride festival. Tickets are cheap, no long lines to get in and spacious seating with tables to hold all the delicious food we ordered. Vegan shake and sausage made my taste buds dance. Employees are super friendly. I had an all around dope experience. I usually hate going to movie theaters but sun ray is nothing like the rest. Awesome way to experience Joker.

Management was extremely rude regarding mask.. you must wear a mask while in lobby but its ok to cross contaminate everyones popcorn.. literally watched them handle money then removed my popcorn bowl from a stack and sit it down inside the machine, on top of all the popcorn!! took another cash payment, then scooped my popcorn it with the bowl...

This was our first visit to the Sun Ray and we loved it! Definitely a throwback, right down to the 3 pinball machines and the photo booth! Loved the menu of food available. Had the popcorn, which was terrific, and a cheese/ham pizza that they delivered to our seats. Yes, the seats were a bit old and not recliners(lol) but we will definitely be going back! I highly recommend seeing a movie here!

We absolutely love Sun-Ray. The movies are incredible, the menu is delicious (and loaded with vegan options), and the movie selection is a mix of classics and latest releases.

Love this classic historic theater full of character & charm. also, they have great food. I love the jacked up grilled cheese, pizzas and hummus n veggies as a healthier option for movie food. only down side is that the seats arent as comfy as the reclining seats at some newer theaters. but overall FAR more interesting to see a movie here!

We love Sun-Ray. Fun and affordable. I love the ginger peach tea. Cons are parking and womens bathroom only had one paper towel dispenser (I dont like the hand dryers) and the locking mechanism in one of the stalls is broken and hanging by one screw.

Im not from Jacksonville and had no idea what I was getting into with this theater. Pleasantly surprised for the first day of Avengers Endgame. Concessions were plentiful and at great prices. We had a great time and the surrounding area was full of things to do before and after the movie. Thanks for a great experience!

My favorite theater in Jacksonville, maybe even my favorite I’ve ever been to. Sun-Ray always shows the best movies and the experience is one of a kind. Amazing concessions, custom pre-rolls, quality projection, and they even mask the screen properly. I really enjoy seeing movies with the Sun-Ray audiences and am always disappointed when I have to go to a chain theater to see a movie they don’t have.Only negative is there is only one person in the ticket booth so there’s usually a long line, which you have to wait in even if you already bought tickets online. You have to show up to the theater literally 30 minutes before the show time if you want to find parking, get your ticket, get concessions, and still be able to find a good seat. Plan ahead!

The only movie theater worth going to. It has a really nice atmosphere and theyre pretty serious about making sure people are quiet during a movie. They also tend to show different indie or foreign films you might not see anywhere else in addition to the big blockbusters. The food is so good and they have a great selection of vegan/vegetarian stuff! Whatever they put on the popcorn is the bomb. Cant beat a movie theater that sells buckets of beer and brings your food to your seat.

As I had not been to a movie theater in about 25 years, I did not know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised that they serve food and drinks to you in the movie theater. The sound was excellent and the seats were comfortable. They also serve beer and wine in the theater. Quite an experience!

From the people to the environment, this place is extremely pleasant to visit. What they lack in quantity of movies they more than make up for in the quality of them, and at a lower price than other, larger theaters. The tables in the viewing rooms make watching a movie and trying to eat at the same time a pleasant experience, when I first heard of Sun Ray, this was honestly the thing I was the most excited about. Overall this place is absolutely fantastic

Sun-Ray Cinema is my go-to way to spend an evening without plans. They play such an incredible array of films, from new releases to classics to obscure cult favorites, that there’s almost always going to be something playing there to please everyone you know. Because of Sun-Ray’s offerings I’ve seen a ton of amazing films that I otherwise would have never even heard of if I only patronized chain theatres like AMC, such as a Turkish documentary on the lives of Istanbul’s stray cats (Kedi, 2016) and a whimsical animated fantasy film about the mysterious appearance of hundreds of penguins in a Japanese village (Penguin Highway, 2018).They also have a great food selection with lots of vegan and vegetarian offerings. Sun-Ray is the only places I’ve ever found to offer a vegan milkshake!Other minor bonuses that make me love this theatre:- The “Twin Peaks” stylized bathroom.- Super cool shirts and other merchandise available for purchase near the concessions.- Awesome and iconic murals on the walls that offer a great photo op for visitors.- Student discount tickets available (and conveniently able to be bought online in advance).

This was my first dine-in theater. The food was good and the chocolate milkshake I order was delicious! However the table the food it on it too far from the seat. I just wish I could sit back and relax and eat my food without having to put my food on my lap.

Very relaxed atmosphere and reasonably priced, decent quality (for a movie theatre) food. Comfortable, if not luxurious, seating.Dont expect huge screens with XD, MD, DP or any other techno acronyms...this theatre is pretty much old school.Only complaint is the quality of their wines.They could do with a better selection...well, they could do with actually having a selection.Otherwise, a great place to movie watch.I would definitely recommend.

Went to a “free” event at this theater only to find that it wasn’t so free after all. It was almost a requirement that I had to buy food from them. I will admit I brought in a sandwich because after all, how many free events serve food right? After being asked not to bring food into the theater I asked if they could make an exception and understandably they could not. I then agreed to walk into the lobby to eat my sandwich. As soon as I did a second, not so professional guy came up to me and asked me to leave... abruptly. I found his mannerism extremely offensive and downright awkward. He threatened to call the cops on me after I was already told by staff that I could eat in the theater’s lobby. Clearly there are severe management issues at play and desperate action to make an example out of me was taken in order to make it abundantly clear to the attendees that outside food was not aloud. I decided to be the bigger person and leave the theater after a more professional and socially skilled person asked me to leave. In retrospect I guess people do silly things when they are desperate for money.

Best theater in town. Shows everything from blockbusters to small indie films. Best pizza in town, too. Lots of options for all diets. Love this place with all my heart.

If youre looking for something different to the chain cinemas this is a great alternative. You can order food and drinks for the movie and the cinema itself has benches in front of the seats to put your order on.They show interesting stuff from mainstream to small, independent films. The popcorn is great.There are two cinemas, we prefer the experience in the big one, the little one doesnt have quite the same atmosphere, so maybe check which screen your movie will be showing on.

This is the best movie theater in Jacksonville! It is way better than the normal chain movie theaters. The food is so good and the atmosphere is very friendly and unique. Even if we’re not dying to see the movie, we’d still go to Sun-Ray just for the awesome experience.

The theater is very clean and staff are exceptionally friendly. The prices for the food I bought (popcorn and candy) were great- plus you get free popcorn if you have a library card which is awesome! The movie quality (sound and picture) was perfect and I love the atmosphere throughout the theater! Im very happy to have this theater near my home and will be visiting again soon!

This was the first time Ive been here and it was pretty neat. Kinda old times and cozy. I like the table for snacks in front of your seat and they have a pretty extensive menu for a movie theater. Food items, including popcorn and drinks were served in resusable containers so less waste. Like a real restaurant inside a movie theater. Prices were way lower than AMC

Really cool place. Didnt realize they serve actual food (I didnt eat, but everyone said the food was great), and the theatre is set up with long tables in front of the chairs. Makes it really easy to eat or drink. They have beer and wine too! Great location, great staff, and just a really cool environment. I did get a little chilly, so if you are cold natured, bring a sweater.

By far our familys favorite theater. Best popcorn in town, make sure you head to the toppings bar before you go to your seat. Were also huge fans of the pizzas and fried pickles, and I just discovered this evening that the salads are absolutely fantastic.

A small theater ran and visited by friendly people thats oozing with style and personality. And big props, barely any ads before the film.

I love sunray!! Its super roomy inside. The food is good, I particularly love the twankies .. which is just home made Twinkies, theres 3 flavors, I believe. Best part is they bring you your food so the line is always faster than other places. Theyve got way better prices than other theaters and its super cozy! I love having a theater in my neighborhood and will always support Sun-Ray. The individuals that work here are great too.Tip - They do not always show certain movies, and they typically show movies for shorter runs than others. They do show popular ones though!

Best way to watch a movie in Jax, not much selection due to only having 2 screens, but they have comfortable seats, friendly staff, good and reasonably priced food (not overpriced like the giant theaters like AMC most people are familiar with), and good viewability of the screens without having to walk up or down a bunch of stairs in the big theater and the small theater is still less stairs than most theaters while still retaining good visibility. As said before, this really is the best way to watch a movie in all of Jacksonville, almost a must go for even people just visiting Jax and very much a must go for any local

Saw mission impossible here 2 days ago. The movie was so good! But the theater is really retro which I think is cool, you can order food and theres bars in front of the theater seats for your food. I also loved the womens restroom. Theres full length mirrors and black and white flooring.
