I have been using the Campion Trails since 1998. I have seen its evolution over the last twenty two years and I love the transformation. Recently I’ve seen much more physical engagement and physical activity (walking, running, biking, rollerblading) which makes me feel happy and bright that the city of Irving can facilitate human growth and development by providing public services like parks to encourage a positive community environment. Really helps in these trying times of political, medical and social upheavals.

Really nice trail part if the Campion trail that includes about a half mile that is completely shaded, with outlooks to the Trinitys rivulets. The shaded area begins about a quarter mile south of the parking lot. If you continue on it past NorthWest Highway, which is about 3/4 of a mile from the parking lot, you can walk another mile or so, with the river on one side and a large expanse of grassy fields on the other. Can be very calming.

Wasnt very busy at all. The bike trail was very clean and an absolutely stunning ride. I liked that they had a few signs about some native trees. I wish they had more. There werent very many water fountains or bathrooms. The water fountain that I found was directly in the sun and was metal so it was hot. I will definitely be riding these trails and this park again, especially in the fall! The Campión Trail is accessible from this park.

The park itself is beautiful, but it very close to a gun range. The noise is quite detrimental to the surrounding environment, and makes it hard to relax or enjoy. The trail itself is in good condition, and being so close to the river and wetlands is amazing, but man oh man are those gun shots loud!

This is an excellent trail to either run, bike, roller blade on or walk. The trail is always well maintained and clean, its very family and pet friendly. Located along the trail are water fountains, trash cans, benches under shade and sun, dog poop bag stations and exercise machines. You can enjoy some nice scenery as is goes alongside a lake and a man made river. You can also watch many different kinds of birds if youre interested. At trailheads you can also find kiosks with tables which you can reserve for a evens like celebrations or birthdays. The only downsides to the trail are that whenever there are heavy rains, it floods and the city closes the trail, sometimes for months. There is also a shooting range nearby and the shots can be loud and annoying. If you want to enjoy a quiet ride/walk then doit midweek before 4 PM. It can get busy with people during weekends and the shooting range gets very loud. There are a total of 3 different parking lots, one in the very southern side, one about 4 miles north and another one thats about 7 miles north under the highway. I have also seen people park next to the police station when the southern parking lots are full ( there is also an access trail from such parking lot to the trail). Overall its a very nice trail that I have been frequenting for years.

This is a very long trail, perfect for walking, jogging, running or biking. The scenery is very nice, and theres some areas where you are completely surrounded by nature. Unfortunately, the increasing rainfalls leave this park flooded for a few weeks. This is a factor they are not in control of.

For the Dallas area this is a good. Sadly, I love hiking and backpacking and Texas, much less Dallas, doesnt have much of it. Still, this is a good path and you can walk, ride, etc for as far as you want.

A great place to access the Campion Trail with at least 20 parking spaces, a reservable pavilion, grill, water fountains, trail map (take a picture of the encased one), rentable V bikes, a couple of port-a-johns, and...most importantly for flower, insect, butterfly, and hummingbird-lovers, there is a butterfly garden just a short walk south of the main pavilion! I had noticed this place while passing a few times and the colorful butterfly garden caught my attention! Despite the 90+ degree heat, I found myself captivated in that magical space and grateful to the city employees who installed it back in 2016! You have beautified our city and given us a chance to get up close to incredible beauty and life! Our campion trail rocks but, wow! It needed some color and this little garden is bursting with life!

Youd think by its name that it would be a great place to see and photograph birds. But youd be wrong. This park is named for a fort that Major Bird built in the very beginnings of Texas. Nothing to do with actual birds at all.The park would be absolutely amazing for birds. Large river and ponds. Lots of trees. Absolutely great; however, they put the park extremely close to a gun range! The guns are so loud they can be heard echoing throughout the river banks and nearby houses. All but a small number of birds are driven away by the loud noises.Absolutely worst park for birds. Everything else is basically just a long sidewalk with some benches and picnic tables. A waste of amazing wetlands.

This is my favorite park in DFW, but thats mostly because of the location. It sits at the heart of the Campion Trail, which runs all the way through Las Colinas, La Villita, and Valley Ranch. The park has a large pavilion with plentiful shade and a water fountain, and there is always one or two port-a-potty units at the south edge of the parking lot. There are two fields in front of the pavilion, one on either side of the driveway in from Riverside Drive, and these can be used for any sport youd need. The one to the north is usually used for mini-soccer or Frisbee, as it is too narrow to be used for kickball (standard Outfield kicks could reach the water or the road). The south field is much larger, and this is where we play kickball. Those are the upsides; there are downsides as well. The fields are not quality. There is a large rut (think a small ravine with a slight rolling mound along one edge) cutting through the north field, and the south field has some uneven ground and possesses the amazing ability to hold water for weeks after an inundating rain. Unless youre coming here for the pavilion, then it will just be the location that would drive your selection of this park for your activity. Also, the parking lot does not look very large, but Ive only once seen it fill all the way up. I just counted it, and there are 50 spaces, two of which are normally obstructed by the portable toilets. If it does fill up, the DART Park & Ride lot is about 1600 feet away. Last thing: bring your own water during warm months -- the water fountain puts out very hot water.
